After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 13
The next day, Lu Youqing woke up very early to head to work. When Yan He woke up, she only found a message left for her.
【I’m heading to work. Send me a message when you wake up.】 Even through the text, her excitement was palpable.
Yan He was somewhat puzzled. Why did Lu Youqing seem even happier about her being discharged than she was? She used one hand to slowly type a reply.
【Good morning.】
Not knowing what Lu Youqing was currently doing, the reply came almost instantly: 【The tour is about to start! I’ve already bought all the ingredients for the cake.】 This was followed by a screenshot of an online shopping order.
Yan He couldn’t help but smile: 【Okay. Focus on your work. See you tonight.】
Lu Youqing corrected her: 【See you this afternoon. Making a cake doesn’t take that long.】
Yan He’s eyes curved, and her heart softened. She replied obediently: 【Okay, see you this afternoon.】
She put her phone away and looked at the sky outside. It seemed even the weather was favoring someone about to be discharged; the sky was as clear as a wash, and the sun shone brightly, looking quite enchanting.
Remembering the paparazzi she saw yesterday, Yan He looked at the sky for only a moment before quickly drawing the curtains to ensure she wouldn’t be spotted. She sat at the head of the bed, her mood a mix of excitement and nervousness.
Home. She was going back to the home she shared with Lu Youqing.
She had been in the hospital for nearly a month, and the farthest she had gone was the hallway outside the ward. She was finally leaving.
Thinking of this, Yan He’s excitement grew, and it felt as though time itself was speeding up.
At noon, Lu Youqing sent her a message.
【I’m all finished! I’m heading back now. I should arrive at the hospital around 4:00 PM.】
Yan He happily sent back a cool: 【Okay.】 Then she set her phone down and quietly waited for 4:00 to arrive.
However, she didn’t yet know that her “see you tonight” message from the morning would turn out to be a prophecy by the afternoon.
At 4:00 PM, all of Yan He’s senses were focused on the hallway outside the room, not wanting to miss a single sound. The excitement made her completely forget that the usually clingy Lu Youqing hadn’t messaged her in a long while.
At 4:15 PM, there was no sound outside the room—not even the sound of someone passing by.
Yan He knit her brows slightly, unable to stop herself from checking her phone for the time every minute. She comforted herself, thinking that perhaps Lu Youqing was out of practice with baking and had burnt the cake, forcing her to start over.
It must be that, Yan He thought, constantly trying to convince herself of this guess, but her tightly clenched hands betrayed her unease.
At 5:00 PM, Lu Youqing still hadn’t arrived. The atmosphere in the room turned stagnant, pressing the air out of Yan He’s lungs.
Finally unable to contain her anxiety, her palms sweating, Yan He messaged Lu Youqing.
【Where are you?】
No one replied.
Cold sweat broke out on Yan He’s back. She hurriedly called Lu Youqing. The phone rang for a full minute before hanging up automatically. Yan He’s heart suddenly tightened.
She stood up to go out and look for Lu Youqing, only to realize a second later that the only way she could contact her was through her phone. Because of her amnesia, she didn’t even know where her own home was.
Yan He was so panicked her hands were shaking. She opened her phone to call Lin Le, the only other contact she had. Fortunately, the call was answered quickly.
Once the call connected, Yan He spoke before Lin Le could: “Lin Le, do you know where Lu Youqing is right now?”
It was the first time Lin Le had heard Yan He use such an anxious tone, and her own heart couldn’t help but leap: “No, CEO Lu’s job for me was to take care of you. What happened to her?”
“I… I can’t get through to her phone,” Yan He’s voice trembled. “Can you go to the house to find her?”
Lin Le was already outside; hearing this, she hailed a taxi. “Don’t worry, I’ll head to the house to look for her right away. Think on the bright side—maybe CEO Lu’s phone just died. It’s okay, she’ll be fine.”
Yan He gripped her phone tightly. A surge of burning blood rose from deep within her chest, scorching her pulse.
“Please… please…”
Yan He hung up the phone and looked despondently at her still-trembling hands. At this moment, she realized her body’s instinctive concern for Lu Youqing, and a wave of self-reproach and frustration rose from her heart.
She had amnesia and could do nothing but wait here for others to find Lu Youqing. She felt so useless.
She pursed her lips and took several deep breaths, knowing she was letting negative emotions take over. Just as she was preparing to pull herself together and go out to seek help from others, she heard a very loud shout from outside the door.
“Yan He!”
A stranger’s voice—one she had never heard before.
Yan He’s mind froze, and she jerked her head toward the door.
The sounds outside suddenly became chaotic, as if many people were running around. Whispers could be heard from time to time. Yan He’s already frayed nerves nearly snapped. She stayed rooted to the spot, listening intently to the commotion outside.
“Yan He!” another shout rang out.
This time, it was definitely not a hallucination. Yan He jumped up, staggering toward the door on her newly healed right leg. She pushed the door open, intending to run toward the source of the sound.
But a pair of hands stopped her directly.
Yan He looked up; it was the woman in black who always stood outside the door.
“What are you doing? Let me out.” Yan He frowned and looked at her, her teeth gritted.
“I’m very sorry, Miss Yan. Something seems to have happened over there. For your safety, I cannot allow you to go.”
Yan He’s expression turned cold, her naturally distant features looking as if they were frosted over. “What happened over there? It’s related to me, isn’t it?” As she spoke, she tried to push past the guard, but was blocked again.
“I’m very sorry, Miss Yan. My job is to protect your safety. Please don’t make this difficult for me.” The guard remained unmoved, retracting her hand and standing silently once more.
Yan He was almost laughing with rage. “I’m not going to that noisy area. I’m going to find Lu Youqing. She’s missing, and I can’t just stay here doing nothing. You can come with me!”
There were always two guards outside the ward, a man and a woman. The male guard was nowhere to be seen, leaving only the woman.
This time, the guard didn’t say a word, simply standing motionless in front of Yan He.
Yan He stared at her with a grim face. In the next second, her cold expression suddenly faltered. The world spun before her eyes, and she leaned against the doorframe as if all her strength had vanished, about to collapse.
The guard frowned and hurried to support her. “What’s wrong?”
Yan He slid down the wall like melting candy, her face turning a terrifying shade of white. Cold sweat seeped from her forehead, wetting her hair. She looked as if she couldn’t utter a single word.
The guard looked panicked. “What happened? I’ll go get the doctor.”
Yan He forced herself to look up, her face hauntingly pale, gasping for air: “Low… low blood sugar. Give me… some sugar.”
The guard suddenly remembered that Lu Youqing had mentioned Yan He was prone to hypoglycemia. Before leaving, Lu Youqing seemed to have left some candy in the office of a doctor she knew for safekeeping.
“Wait here. I’ll go get the candy for you right now.” With that, the guard stood up quickly and disappeared down the hallway.
Yan He’s blurred vision watched the guard vanish around the corner. She gritted her teeth, reached into her pocket, and pulled out a piece of chocolate. With trembling hands, she tore open the wrapper and stuffed the chocolate into her mouth.
Chewing, she forced herself to stand up. She looked in the direction the guard had gone, then leaned against the wall and limped down the stairs from the other side, reaching the emergency exit on the fifth floor.
The fifth-floor hallway was very quiet. There were patients being supported as they walked, nurses rushing by, and a family member fast asleep on a nearby chair.
It was peaceful, with no abnormalities. It seemed the shouts from before really were just a hallucination.
Yan He kept her gaze steady, dragging her injured leg down the hallway, not letting a single suspicious sign escape her.
A nurse, seeing her walking so awkwardly, came over to ask which ward she belonged to. Yan He had just recovered from the hypoglycemic state, and her consciousness was still hazy.
She thought that the person might have already been restrained by security; searching further might be a waste of effort.
So she allowed the nurse to support her to the elevator. She stepped inside.
As the elevator doors closed, Yan He wiped the cold sweat from her forehead and regained her clarity. She couldn’t go back; she had to find Lu Youqing.
Yan He leaned powerlessly into the corner of the elevator. A sense of helplessness washed over her like water. Where could she find Lu Youqing now? She didn’t even know where their “home” was.
The priority now was to call the police! Her brain, which had been muddled for so long, finally cooled down. She pressed the button for the first floor.
She would call the police first, then wait on the first floor for Lu Youqing, ensuring that Lu Youqing would see her the moment she entered the hospital.
The signal in the elevator was poor. Yan He planned to call once she got downstairs. It would be best to call Lin Le first; if Lu Youqing really wasn’t at home, she would call the police immediately.
Yan He pulled up Lin Le’s contact information and pressed the call button a second before the elevator opened.
Ding!
The elevator doors opened. Yan He looked up and met a pair of shocked eyes.
