After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 2
Fiancée!?
Staring blankly at the woman’s gentle gaze, Yan He didn’t even hear the next thing she said. She suddenly recoiled, stopping only when her back hit the headboard. The force was so strong that it seemed to tear at the wound on her right arm, and Yan He gasped in pain.
Lu Youqing’s slight smile instantly vanished. She stepped forward anxiously to support Yan He, her tone immediately shifting to worry: “What’s wrong? Is the wound still hurting? I’ll call the doctor!”
She started to get up, but Yan He grabbed her sleeve.
Lu Youqing’s body imperceptibly stiffened, but she quickly returned to her previous demeanor. When she turned, she saw Yan He’s shocked expression and the cold sweat beading on her forehead.
Yan He ignored the pain in her right hand. She stared intensely at Lu Youqing’s face, trying to find a flaw in the woman’s expression.
But there was none. Both her expression and her earlier concern for the injury clearly showed the woman’s deep regard for her.
“You said, I’m your… fiancée.” Having just woken up and being extremely shocked, Yan He was still speaking awkwardly. Due to the uncertainty of their relationship, a faint blush appeared on her face as she repeated the sentence, trying hard not to show her nervousness.
Yan He was still reeling, but Lu Youqing sat down beside her. Her slender shadow instantly covered Yan He’s vision, followed by something covering her forehead.
Yan He came to her senses and realized Lu Youqing was wiping the cold sweat from her forehead. The woman was beautiful—the amnesiac Yan He couldn’t think of any words to describe this beauty, so she could only use the frantic beating of her heart as a substitute.
Now that they were so close, Yan He seemed to smell the clean, pleasant, and comforting scent on her body, but this was accompanied by a sense of heart-pounding panic she couldn’t ignore…
“A-He seems not to believe me,” the woman said softly while Yan He was distracted, her voice tinged with sadness. The pressure on Yan He’s forehead increased slightly.
Yan He immediately panicked and instinctively blurted out, “No, that’s not what I meant.” As she spoke, she took the opportunity to raise her hand and snatch the tissue from Lu Youqing’s grasp, turning her head away to distance herself from the scent.
“I just… I lost my memory, I don’t know you. Are you, are you really my fiancée?” The current Yan He was still innocent and spoke whatever came to mind. She was actually engaged.
There were other suspicions, but Yan He didn’t dare voice them. If she truly was Lu Youqing’s fiancée, why was her subconscious reaction to Lu Youqing so strange?
Hearing Yan He’s direct suspicion, Lu Youqing didn’t get angry; instead, she let out a small laugh.
Yan He’s thoughts were interrupted. She looked up in confusion, meeting the woman’s tear-filled eyes. Lu Youqing gripped her uninjured left hand. Yan He struggled slightly but couldn’t break free, so she let the woman hold her.
Lu Youqing leaned closer to Yan He, guiding Yan He’s hand to stroke her cheek. The cool touch made Yan He feel uncomfortable, and her movements were a bit stiff.
“What are you doing?” she asked nervously.
“Don’t be so nervous.” Lu Youqing curved her lips. Since she first saw her, Yan He seemed to be in a state of tension. Her crimson lips parted: “Did you truly forget who I am? That’s heartbreaking.”
As she spoke, she bent her head and kissed Yan He’s fingertips with a look of longing, her eyes staring intently at Yan He, waiting for her reaction.
Yan He suddenly froze, her breathing stopping with Lu Youqing’s action. Only the soft feeling on her fingertips scattered wildly through her mind. She abruptly pulled her hand back, her voice flustered.
“You, you, you… what was that for!” Yan He looked terrified at the woman’s continuing smile, frowning tightly, her ears hidden in her hair slightly flushed.
“Because this is what A-He is most familiar with. I thought you might remember. It seems I failed.” Lu Youqing looked up and gently rubbed the top of Yan He’s head, her eyes deep: “It seems A-He doesn’t recognize me at all.”
Yan He’s mind was a mess. She felt there was a deeper meaning behind the woman’s words. “I lost my memory,” she repeated stubbornly.
The door was knocked, and it was Lin Le with the doctor. Lu Youqing frowned slightly and opened her mouth to let them in.
Lin Le, knowing she would only be a third wheel, consciously stood outside the door.
The doctor looked at Lu Youqing, then at Yan He, walked over, and began examining Yan He’s physical condition.
Throughout the process, Lu Youqing stood by the window. The curtains were fully drawn, letting the sunlight flood in and illuminate most of the room. She stood backlit, her slightly curled long hair shimmering. Having taken off her coat, her long dress outlined her figure, and the exposed fair skin looked even more porcelain white in the light.
She stood there, head lowered, without saying a word, her face obscured by the backlight. Yet, Yan He could feel that the woman’s gaze had been fixed on her the whole time, as if being scrutinized by some huge creature. This feeling made her confused and uneasy.
She nervously swallowed, and her left index finger subconsciously rubbed the spot where Lu Youqing had just kissed her. The sticky feeling of the lipstick seemed to cling to her breath as well.
Yan He lowered her head, her ears growing even redder.
The doctor finished the examination, capped her pen, and clipped it onto her pocket. She briefly explained Yan He’s condition. Yan He’s physical health was fine, and she could be discharged after observing her for a while longer in the hospital. As for the memory loss, it appeared to be caused by head trauma from the car accident.
“Then, when, when can I recover my memory?” Yan He asked hesitantly. Losing all memory is a significant blow to anyone. Previously immersed in the shock of Lu Youqing being her fiancée, she hadn’t fully realized it. Now, with the realization sinking in, Yan He was consumed by deep anxiety. Everything around her felt foreign.
“It’s uncertain. The time it takes for different patients to recover varies. It could be a month, half a year, or even several years—it’s not set in stone. But with proper recuperation, you should recover your memory,” the doctor said. “Besides, you have Miss Lu with you. With the company of a loved one, your memory will surely recover quickly.”
After comforting her, the doctor gave Lu Youqing some instructions and then left. Only Lu Youqing and Yan He were left in the room again.
Lu Youqing poured Yan He some water and handed it to her. Yan He took it without ceremony and drank it all at once. She figured that since they were fiancées, they would definitely be in contact later, so she might as well start adjusting now.
Once she finished drinking, Lu Youqing very naturally took the glass from her hand and pulled out a tissue to wipe the corner of her mouth.
Too close.
Yan He raised her hand and took the tissue from her hand: “I can do it myself.”
Lu Youqing looked slightly sad. She spoke petulantly, “A-He never used to do that. Now that you’ve lost your memory, are you planning to abandon me too?” As she spoke, her eyes instantly reddened, as if Yan He had truly just committed the act of abandoning her fiancée.
Yan He was bewildered. Seeing Lu Youqing about to cry, she quickly explained, “I’m not, I didn’t! I’m just a little unaccustomed to things since I lost my memory.”
Lu Youqing raised her hand to wipe the corner of her eye. When she looked up, her expression was once again filled with the same love as before, as if just one word from Yan He could restore her chaotic inner world. She smiled.
“Alright, I believe you, A-He.”
“Where are my other family members? Did they come?” Yan He still felt very insecure. Even though she had confirmed the woman in front of her was her partner, the terror of a completely blank memory after amnesia was still tailing her like a dark cloud looming overhead.
“Your family,” Lu Youqing murmured the words, then said, “Your mother is currently abroad for business and recuperation. She’s unwell, and flying is inconvenient for her. I’ve already messaged her to let her know you’re safe.”
“Did she say anything?” Yan He’s eyes brightened slightly, her tone unconsciously laced with hope.
“She said to rest well and take care of your injuries.”
Yan He nodded, trying hard to search her memory for any recollection of her mother. Like before, it was completely blank.
“Then, my friends?” she continued to ask.
Lu Youqing looked down at her, her dark eyes clouded, and spoke slowly, her voice containing an emotion that was hard to discern.
“Your friends aren’t in the country either.”
“What?” Yan He’s voice was clearly shocked. Was her social circle that extensive? Why were none of them in the country?
Yan He’s previously sluggish thoughts suddenly became sharp. She realized with a jolt that this meant the only person she was close and familiar with in the country was Lu Youqing.
Perhaps her disappointment was too evident. Lu Youqing leaned over, her gaze like water as she looked at Yan He, her voice as gentle as melting ice in spring.
“It’s okay, A-He. You still have me.”
It took Yan He some time to digest this fact. Whether or not Lu Youqing was telling the truth, she had to believe her now. She leaned back against the headboard, trying to distract herself, and looked at Lu Youqing without speaking.
Lu Youqing sat by the bed, looking at her in confusion: “What’s wrong? If you’re tired, let’s rest. You just woke up, you shouldn’t push yourself.”
Yan He shook her head and voiced her confusion: “How long have we known each other?”
Lu Youqing paused, then curved her lips: “So that’s what A-He was thinking about.” She smiled, and in Yan He’s expectant gaze, she slowly began to speak.
“We met in high school. That means we’ve known each other for seven years and been together for six years.” Thinking of something, Lu Youqing’s gaze towards Yan He was so gentle it could melt water.
“At the beginning of last year, I proposed to you.” She said, extending her left hand. A plain silver ring was set at the base of her middle finger. The style wasn’t flashy, but Yan He instinctively felt it was the type of ring she would like.
She subconsciously looked down at her own hands but didn’t see a ring, only a faint ring mark at the base of her middle finger. I must not be wearing it, she thought.
“And that day, A-He was also preparing to propose to me.” Lu Youqing’s words pulled Yan He’s distracted thoughts back. Recalling this, the smile on Lu Youqing’s lips couldn’t be suppressed. Even though she was the only one who remembered this memory now, she was still happy.
“That’s so romantic,” Yan He sighed.
Lu Youqing was amused. She reached out and couldn’t help but rub Yan He’s cheek, teasing, “Why are you complimenting yourself?” As she spoke, she pulled the blanket up a little higher.
“You’ve just woken up, you can’t eat anything too strongly flavored. Drink some water first.” Lu Youqing got up, walked to the table, poured another glass of water, and handed it to Yan He.
Yan He took the glass with one hand and sipped the water. The slightly sweet warm water diluted the bitter taste of medication in her mouth. She quickly finished the glass.
Yan He had been hungry since waking up. She hadn’t realized it until now, but after drinking two glasses of water, with something in her stomach, her stomach spoke louder than her mouth. A rumbling sound was heard, and Yan He’s cheeks instantly flushed crimson. After hearing the person in front of her let out an uncontrollable giggle, the flush turned bright red.
“Don’t laugh,” she protested quietly, lowering her head even further.
Lu Youqing chuckled: “Alright, I’ll listen to A-He.” With that, she reached for the box of food beside her and checked the temperature with her hand, frowning slightly.
“The food is cold. I’ll call Lin Le and have her send a fresh one up.”
Yan He didn’t have any objection initially, but her eyes fell on the perfectly wrapped food box beside Lu Youqing. It was clearly not an ordinary takeout box. She suddenly recalled something Lin Le had told her earlier.
[During the days you were unconscious, CEO Lu personally cooked every meal, waiting for you to wake up to eat together.]
Could these be…
“Did you make these?” Yan He asked, looking at the food.
Lu Youqing was on the phone with Lin Le. Hearing Yan He’s question, she looked up and smiled slightly.
“I did. Did A-He remember something?”
Yan He shook her head and lowered her gaze again, a complex emotion arising in her heart.
She had lost her memory, forgotten everything, including Lu Youqing. But Lu Youqing still remembered their shared memories. During the time she was unconscious, Lu Youqing prepared meals every day, waiting for her to wake up. It seemed they must have been very much in love.
“I’ll just eat this. It’s only a little cold, it’s fine,” she said.
Lu Youqing turned to look at her, shaking her head, her gaze earnest and non-negotiable.
“No, you can’t eat cold things right after waking up. It’s not good for your health.” As she spoke, the phone call connected. Lu Youqing briefly instructed the person on the other end and then hung up.
“But, you made these yourself,” Yan He said, looking at the food with a hint of melancholy.
Lu Youqing looked back, naturally hearing her mumbling. Her heart felt like it was sinking into cotton wool. She sat on a chair beside the bed, looking at Yan He face-to-face.
“It’s okay. I make these every day. I’ll make more for A-He tomorrow, alright? You can’t eat cold things after being injured. Let’s eat something else today, okay?” She spoke like she was coaxing a child.
Yan He’s ears were a little red, and she nodded. She knew Lu Youqing hadn’t quite understood what she meant, but she was too embarrassed to press the issue.
Just then, Lin Le brought the food up. Lu Youqing took the boxed meal beside her and stepped out. When she returned, she had a new food container in her hand.
Yan He’s right arm was injured, so Lu Youqing naturally had to feed her the meal. Although she wanted to refuse, insisting she could eat with one hand, Lu Youqing insisted gently yet firmly on feeding her the entire meal.
After eating, Lu Youqing cleaned up the items, stood up, and picked up the plastic bag containing the used bowls. She glanced at the weather outside and said.
“Alright, I’m going to throw away this trash. I’ll be right back.”
After getting Yan He’s nod, Lu Youqing left the ward. She pushed the door open, turned, and closed it again, completely preventing Yan He from seeing her.
The hallway was quiet. The ubiquitous cold air brushed her skin, causing a shiver. Lu Youqing leaned against the wall, separated by only a wall from the thoughtful Yan He.
Lu Youqing leaned against the wall, her head lowered, her expression obscured and dark. She bit her lip tightly, trying not to let her emotions show.
She clenched her hands into fists, her nails digging into her palms from the force. The pain momentarily brought her back to her senses. She turned, resting her head against the cold wall.
A-He truly… lost her memory.
Indeed. Hadn’t she already tested her? Given her actions today, the old A-He would have strongly resisted, let alone allowed herself to be kissed.
Lu Youqing reached up, lightly touching her lips. The feeling of the kiss lingered on her mouth; she could still sense that body temperature.
It was warm, yet it fiercely burned away her precarious sanity.
Thinking of this, she smiled bitterly, remembering something.
How long had it been since she last saw A-He trust her like this and smile at her like this? These scenes that only happened in dreams were now truly unfolding before her eyes. It was impossible not to feel excited.
A faint gleam flashed in Lu Youqing’s eyes. What if this was a chance given to her by heaven?
What if she and A-He could…
