After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 25
“I made some breakfast. Would you like to eat together?” The girl’s youthful, tentative voice drifted through the door. Yan He’s movement to get up froze. She turned to find Lu Youqing looking back at her with a mischievous smile as she released her embrace, returning to her usual vixen-like demeanor.
Yan He looked out the window; the sun was high in the sky. She and Lu Youqing had actually been fooling around for this long, long enough for Li Taoyi downstairs to realize something was amiss.
Flustered, Yan He stood up. “I’ll get the door.” She walked toward the exit, not forgetting to drape the thin blanket over Lu Youqing.
Li Taoyi had woken up very early. The storm and thunder last night had kept her from sleeping much, and the heavy burden of her grandmother’s situation weighed on her heart. She woke at dawn, messaged her roommates to let them know she was safe, and checked the time. Knowing Yan He and Lu Youqing had helped her immensely, she felt she couldn’t just remain a passive recipient of their kindness.
Fortunately, she had worked in a kitchen before, so making breakfast was something she was comfortable with. She prepared breakfast for the two of them.
However, the food had been sitting downstairs for a long time. Seeing it was about to get cold and hearing no sound from upstairs, Li Taoyi felt she had to go up. She knocked on the bedroom door, trying her best not to look out of place, though her voice was shaky.
When her first knock went unanswered, Li Taoyi’s courage ran out. Just as she turned to leave, the door swung open. Startled, she spun around and met Yan He’s somewhat embarrassed expression.
“Miss Yan…” Li Taoyi’s voice trailed off. Her eyes darted between the master bedroom and the guest room, her face practically screaming the question: Why were Yan He and Lu Youqing in the guest room instead of the master suite?
“Student Li… is something the matter?” Yan He felt a wave of awkwardness so intense her body felt numb. She didn’t dare meet Li Taoyi’s gaze. Even though nothing had actually happened between her and Lu Youqing, the current situation looked incredibly suggestive to an outsider.
Li Taoyi spoke quickly: “I made some breakfast downstairs. If you and Miss Lu are hungry, you can come down and eat.” She lowered her head and apologized immediately: “Sorry, I used your kitchen without permission. Please just treat me like a maid.”
Before Yan He could speak, she heard footsteps behind her, followed by the feeling of an embrace and a soft chuckle: “Then thank you, Student Li. A-He and I just happen to be a bit hungry.”
Lu Youqing’s lighthearted laughter quickly dispelled the awkwardness. Li Taoyi nodded repeatedly, saying she would “go prepare the table” before scurrying downstairs, clearly feeling like a third wheel.
As the figure vanished into the stairwell, Yan He looked at Lu Youqing’s arms wrapped around her. She sighed. “The way you said that… it makes it sound like we did something.”
“Did what? Is holding each other to sleep not allowed?” Lu Youqing let go, tilting Yan He’s chin up to make her look at her, pretending to be fierce. “Am I not even allowed to say we slept in each other’s arms?”
She leaned against Yan He as if she had no bones, nuzzling her clothes and inhaling her scent. “It’s fine, Student Li won’t talk.”
Yan He: “?” Was there even anything to talk about? Lu Youqing’s ambiguous words actually made her feel as if they had done something shameful last night.
Yan He didn’t want to keep arguing. She knew Lu Youqing had a hundred ways to make her blush and shut her up. She closed the door, helped Lu Youqing sit on the bed by her waist, and then used her index finger to push her away, creating space. She said solemnly, “Alright, I need to wash up. Don’t you have work? It’s late; if you keep this up, you’ll actually be late for work.” Only then did Lu Youqing reluctantly let go, though her eyes followed Yan He with a seductive smile as she left.
Yan He fled back to the master bedroom. Seeing her flushed face in the mirror, she pinched her own cheek. “Do I really blush this easily?”
They were fiances, after all. They must have done all sorts of intimate things before, yet since the amnesia, she was so easily flustered. Her heart was still racing, but a hint of sweetness bloomed alongside the nerves. By the time her blush faded and she changed her clothes, Lu Youqing was already downstairs chatting merrily with Li Taoyi.
“Really? Granny Li actually said that about A-He?” Lu Youqing was laughing behind her hand, her eyes curved. Noticing the person coming down the stairs, she beckoned Yan He over.
“A-He, come here. Student Li is telling me stories about when you were younger.” Lu Youqing had changed into a fiery red dress that highlighted the small mole on her left collarbone. In the morning light, she looked both radiant and gentle. Every movement she made captured the eye.
Yan He sat beside Lu Youqing, thanking Li Taoyi for the spread of food. Li Taoyi waved her hands frantically.
“No, no, no… it’s just breakfast. It’s no trouble at all.”
“Student Li’s cooking is excellent. A-He, come, try a bit of this porridge.” Lu Youqing suppressed her smile, picked up a porcelain bowl, and held a spoonful of porridge to Yan He’s lips. The intimacy of the gesture completely disregarded the guest at the table.
Yan He’s breath hitched. She instinctively looked at Li Taoyi, only to find the girl acting like an ostrich, her head buried in her bowl.
Yan He: “…” Resigned, she turned her head back. Under Lu Youqing’s gaze—which was so tender it could melt into water—she swallowed the porridge with burning ears.
The rest of breakfast was an ordeal. Ever since Lu Youqing fed her that first spoonful, Yan He felt an invisible gaze on her regardless of whether she fed herself or took a bite. Lu Youqing was truly making the morning’s “misunderstanding” feel like a reality.
By the time they finished, it was late. The cinema Lu Youqing was visiting for the tour was far from the villa, and she had to drop Li Taoyi off to meet her friend first. As she left, she didn’t forget to remind Yan He not to forget to miss her.
“I wish A-He could get smaller, just a little smaller, so I could carry you around without being noticed. I’d never get tired of looking at you.” Lu Youqing stood at the door, her eyes glistening with longing.
Once in the car, Lu Youqing watched Yan He’s figure until she disappeared from view. Only then did she retract her gaze, her eyes losing their warmth. She turned her gaze slowly toward Li Taoyi and gave a slight smile.
Li Taoyi had been sitting obediently in the back seat, still as a statue. Sensing the gaze, she gathered her courage to meet Lu Youqing’s eyes. “Miss… Lu?”
“Student Li, rest assured. Granny Li was kind to me, so I will not be negligent regarding her illness.” Lu Youqing’s tone was businesslike, yet it finally soothed Li Taoyi’s anxious heart.
Li Taoyi finally felt grounded. She unclasped her tightly gripped hands. She had known since last night that this beautiful woman, like Miss Yan, was a good person. Now, hearing Lu Youqing’s definitive answer, her gratitude deepened.
“Th-thank you, Miss Lu. If it weren’t for you and Miss Yan, I wouldn’t know what to do.” Li Taoyi was moved to tears again.
Lu Youqing glanced at her and said calmly, “Last night at the house, did you talk to A-He about the past?”
Li Taoyi wiped her eyes and thought back, then nodded. “Yes. I’ve only met Miss Yan that one time. I remember you were there, too.” Recalling the atmosphere back then, Li Taoyi frowned. Given how chaotic that scene was, there was no reason for Yan He not to remember.
“I remember you suddenly burst in—”
“I’ll go with A-He to see Granny Li in a few days.” Lu Youqing interrupted her. Her trembling lashes blocked the sunlight, leaving her dark pupils in shadow.
“A-He suffered some injuries recently, and her mental state hasn’t been great since. I’m helping her recover slowly. The doctor warned not to mention too much about the past in front of her. I think you should mention this to Granny Li as well.” She spoke with a finality that silenced whatever Li Taoyi was about to say.
Li Taoyi thought to herself that she hadn’t mentioned much. She only remembered that one incident. But on second thought, the atmosphere between Yan He and Lu Youqing in that restaurant had been very strange, as if they hadn’t spoken in a long time. It was so awkward it made her heart tremble even now. She had almost thought they were going to break up. But seeing how affectionate they were now, she figured she was just overthinking. Bringing up old history did seem like being a busybody.
“Okay, I understand.” Li Taoyi nodded firmly, suppressing her doubts. She made a zipping motion over her lips with her fingers. Miss Lu and Miss Yan had helped her so much; she knew which things were better left unsaid.
Lu Youqing smiled warmly—her first genuine smile toward Li Taoyi in two days. Her voice softened. “Good. I believe Student Li won’t disappoint me.”
After watching the car leave, Yan He returned to the house. The empty villa felt vast now that she was alone. The sound of her own footsteps echoing made a spark of fear rise in her heart.
She returned to the study, hoping to spend the time reading to see if she could recover any memories. But she had overestimated herself. The amnesia felt like a dense, airtight net. She found that doing anything took immense effort, like a sluggish machine that required a long time to respond.
The study became unbearable, so she went to the kitchen to see if she could cook. She was just as clumsy there and nearly caused an accident.
Dejected, Yan He returned to the bedroom and lay on the bed, her thoughts drifting. Her eyes inadvertently fell on the locked drawer.
She remembered she hadn’t been able to open it yesterday. Recalling Lu Youqing’s cryptic smile and “threat,” her curiosity piqued. she sat up and began to examine the drawer seriously.
She noticed the lock was a cross-key type, completely different from the top two drawers. Based on the style, this lock was much more secure. Lu Youqing had actually changed the lock; what was so important inside?
Yan He had a strong gut feeling that the contents of this drawer would solve most of her current confusion.
The storage room next door was also locked, and she hadn’t found the key. She told herself she’d open them one day.
Yan He picked up her phone. She hadn’t intended to message Lu Youqing, but her excitement made her check their chat. To her disappointment, there were no new messages beyond their morning exchange.
Lu Youqing: 【I’ve arrived at work.】
Lu Youqing: 【(image.jpg) (image.jpg)】
Lu Youqing: 【I miss A-He. I want to finish work early to see you.】
Yan He: 【Be safe.】
That was it. Her hidden joy evaporated. Yan He put down the phone listlessly, her interest in the drawer fading. Her mind was full of Lu Youqing.
She felt she shouldn’t let Lu Youqing control her entire world. She tried to walk around the house again, but after a lap downstairs and a lap upstairs, all she really wanted to do was check her phone for updates.
Just one look. I just want to see if she’s finished work. Yan He told herself.
【Latest Roadshow Photos of Movie Queen Lu Youqing!】 In the photos, Lu Youqing was still in her red dress, smiling and interacting with fans to great cheers. She was laughing and chatting with colleagues she didn’t recognize. Facing the camera, she wore an impeccable, perfect smile.
Lu Youqing was still beautiful, still radiant, attracting eyes like an immortal. Yet, for some reason, a faint sense of loss enveloped Yan He. It felt as if the Lu Youqing in the photos was far away. Despite the same dress and smile, she could only stand and watch from afar.
Yan He hated this feeling, yet she couldn’t stop herself from saving the photos. She felt incredibly contradictory.
Why is everything I do related to Lu Youqing?
Yan He figured she was just bored. She got up to go for a walk. She had seen on a map that there was a scenic area near the villa. The description looked lovely. She thought she’d go see if she could find any lost memories and perhaps find something to eat. Her own cooking skills were currently non-existent.
No sooner said than done. Yan He changed her clothes and shoes, put on a sun hat and a mask, and walked toward the gate, feeling a sense of nervous excitement about leaving the house alone for the first time.
Yan He placed her hand on the fingerprint sensor of the villa gate. The gate was smart; the moment her palm touched the sensor, a “detection failed” prompt sounded.
