After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 3
Lu Youqing promised Yan He she would be right back, but in reality, it took her more than ten minutes just to compose her surging emotions. She then went to dispose of the trash. By the time she returned to the ward, a quarter of an hour had passed.
Back in the room, Yan He was already asleep. One side of her pale face was covered by the blanket, and the exposed upper half showed a slight frown, as if she were having a bad dream. Lu Youqing wanted to smooth her brow, but fearing she would wake Yan He, who had finally managed to fall asleep, she withdrew her hand and sat down on a nearby chair.
Yan He’s injuries from the car accident were not severe, but her right wrist was slightly fractured. Lu Youqing dared not ask for too much; it was enough that Yan He was safe. The car window had shattered in the accident, leaving Yan He with various cuts and gashes all over her body, especially on her arms and legs, covered in wounds from tiny glass shards.
A throbbing pain arose in her heart. These injuries dragged her back to that day of despair, a day she dared not recall. She took a deep, shuddering breath, and could only pull the blanket up, watching Yan He’s sleeping face to calm her mind.
Lu Youqing sat on the chair, resting her chin on her hand, gazing at Yan He’s sleeping face with a profound and complicated look. In her mind, she replayed all seven years of memories with Yan He. These were treasures she cherished, the sole reliance that helped her through dark years. She reached up and pressed her forehead, then suddenly curved her lips in annoyance, settling on a somewhat relieved smile.
Thankfully, A-He is still by her side.
It wasn’t until near sunset that Yan He woke up from her slumber. She hadn’t slept well. Despite how normal she tried to act before sleeping, the sense of confusion and panic from losing her memory haunted her dreams. Fear was magnified in the darkness, and the head trauma from the car accident started to ache. When she woke up, she was drenched in sweat.
The sweat made her uncomfortable, but her cheek was covered by something cool. Yan He opened her eyes. The cool touch on her cheek hadn’t disappeared. She raised her hand to feel it, but the next moment, the pain in her arm jolted her awake.
Her vision focused. She looked up and saw a fair, delicate hand holding a damp towel, and following the arm, she saw Lu Youqing’s beautiful face.
Lu Youqing was undoubtedly strikingly beautiful, the kind of person who stands out in a crowd. Now, as she wiped Yan He’s forehead, she leaned in close. Because of the worry these past few days, her state was a bit weary, with slight dark circles under her eyes. She gazed at Yan He with a profound gentleness. The beauty mark below her eye looked like it was steeped in rich wine, making her even more captivating.
That mole must be very good to kiss, Yan He subconsciously thought.
For some reason, the panic in Yan He’s heart suddenly subsided a little, and her eyes gradually cleared. She then realized how rude it was to have been staring at the other person blankly and quickly looked away.
Lu Youqing held the towel, diligently wiping the fine sweat from her cheeks. She took in all of Yan He’s expressions and emotions and naturally noticed Yan He’s daze, giving a soft smile.
“It’s alright, A-He, I’m here,” she comforted, putting down the towel and instead wrapping her arms around Yan He’s waist, pulling her entirely into her embrace. She gently patted Yan He’s back, helping her escape the terrifying dream.
She didn’t know what Yan He had dreamed about, but she still gently told her not to be afraid, assuring her that she was by her side.
Yan He couldn’t help but think that she and Lu Youqing must have been truly in love before.
“I’m fine. Not sleeping well must be because I’m not used to the bed,” Yan He casually concocted an excuse and quickly changed the subject.
She turned to look out the window and realized it was already dark outside. The thick darkness was like a mass of fog, reaching out tentacles in the blackness, trying to enter the room, which made her feel uneasy. She shifted her gaze back to Lu Youqing.
“How long did I sleep?” She sat up, using her uninjured left hand to massage her temples. Perhaps due to the car accident, her head hurt intermittently, and it was worse after waking up.
“Not long. You’re injured, you should rest more,” Lu Youqing replied, proactively reaching out to help Yan He rub her temples. Her slender fingers pressed against the sides of Yan He’s head, skillfully massaging her forehead.
Once again, Lu Youqing’s fresh scent enveloped Yan He. She was entirely enclosed in Lu Youqing’s shadow. Yan He felt a little embarrassed, but considering their past relationship, doing these things should be commonplace. To refuse again would make her seem heartless and uncaring after losing her memory.
With that thought, Yan He didn’t move again, only whispering a soft, “Thank you.”
“If you have to say thank you for things like this, A-He, your catchphrase will be that word from now on,” Lu Youqing teased her.
Yan He stiffened, biting her lip: “I will adapt, just give me some more time.”
Lu Youqing smiled, continued to rub gently, and said nothing more.
They were very close. As Lu Youqing massaged her temples, it was as if she was fully embracing Yan He. Yan He claimed she would adapt quickly, but feeling it in the silence, her body froze again. She lowered her eyes, her mind a tangled mess, and her gaze randomly fell upon her tightly clenched left hand on the bedsheet, faintly seeing the trace of lipstick on her index finger. The events of the day suddenly flashed in her mind.
Yan He squeezed her eyes shut, trying to scatter the messy thoughts. Just as she was about to say something, the phone next to them rang. The hands on the sides of her head stopped, then let go. Yan He subtly sighed in relief.
Lu Youqing picked up the phone and answered the call.
She didn’t avoid Yan He, but because it wasn’t on speakerphone, Yan He couldn’t make out the content of the conversation, only hearing Lu Youqing say, “Come up.”
Yan He was confused, but decided it was best to speak less now to avoid being teased by Lu Youqing again, so she remained silent, swallowing her question. Fortunately, her confusion was quickly answered.
Within a few minutes, Yan He heard a knock on the door. She looked up and saw Lu Youqing walking over to open the door.
Yan He looked closely. It seemed to be the girl she had seen earlier today named Lin Le. She had said she was Lu Youqing’s assistant. Yan He thought they might need to talk, but Lu Youqing merely nodded, and Lin Le left after dropping something off.
When Lu Youqing turned around, Yan He finally saw what she was holding.
It was a bundle of clothes and a blanket for changing.
Meeting Yan He’s questioning gaze, Lu Youqing spoke first.
“Your wounds haven’t fully healed yet, so you’ll need to stay here for a while. I asked Lin Le to bring back some change of clothes from home.” Her tone was so matter-of-fact that Yan He seemed to notice nothing amiss.
As she spoke, Lu Youqing carried the clothes to the cabinet opposite the bed and put them inside.
The room they were in was a VIP ward, fully furnished. Lu Youqing had worried about Yan He for a long time and hadn’t thought about these external things. Now that Yan He was awake, there was more to consider, so she simply brought everything over.
Lu Youqing didn’t avoid Yan He while putting things away, and Yan He saw two vastly different styles of clothing and underwear placed inside.
Yan He looked away, her face burning with heat.
Checking the time, it was already late. Lu Youqing took her clothes and went to shower first, leaving Yan He staring blankly at the empty room. Her wounds from the glass cuts had not fully healed and couldn’t get wet, so she couldn’t shower, but the dream she had during the day still made her feel uncomfortable.
She looked up and generally figured out what the instruments by the bed were for. Now that she was awake, most of them were turned off.
The room’s decor was in monotonous colors, giving it a somewhat serious feel. With no one else around, that sense of confusion and helplessness pressed down on her again. Yan He lowered her eyes, her gaze falling on the bathroom not far away. The sound of the shower reaching Yan He’s ears greatly eased her anxiety.
Yan He thought that she and Lu Youqing had known each other for seven years, been together for six, and were engaged; their relationship must be very good.
However, she still felt a strange sense of doubt in her heart. She raised her left hand. Under the light, the ring mark on the base of her left middle finger was quite conspicuous.
If it was a ring of significant importance, why wasn’t she wearing hers?
She urgently wanted to know everything, but she also knew she couldn’t recover much memory quickly. The blankness deep in her mind still made her uneasy. Thankfully, the sound of the shower made her feel less alone. She thought Lu Youqing would probably stay here with her tonight.
Lu Youqing should stay with her tonight… right?
Lost in these random thoughts, half an hour passed without her realizing it.
“Click.”
The bathroom door opened. Yan He looked up and saw Lu Youqing standing before her, her face clear and misty with steam. She was wearing a simple, plain nightgown that revealed a large amount of fair skin. Tilted her head while drying her hair, she still couldn’t hide her overall aura. Lu Youqing seemed to have a natural ability to fix people’s attention on her.
Lu Youqing dried her hair until it was semi-dry and walked toward Yan He. Along with her came a cool scent and the fragrance of shampoo. Yan He didn’t dislike the scent, but her heart always fluttered whenever she smelled it.
Lu Youqing took out a hairdryer and stood not far from Yan He, blowing her hair dry. Her head was bowed, and her slender fingers casually grasped her hair strands.
“Do you want some fruit to tide you over?” Lu Youqing combed her hair, then picked up an orange lying nearby and asked.
Yan He had eaten lunch quite late, so she skipped dinner. Lu Youqing had eaten a reheated version of the midday meal for dinner.
Now that it was late, Lu Youqing worried she might be hungry. Without waiting for Yan He’s answer, she held a segment of orange to her lips, smiling faintly.
The sour scent of the orange peel reached her nose. Yan He, feeling helpless, opened her mouth and took the segment, lowering her eyelashes obediently.
A subtle emotion surged in Lu Youqing’s eyes, but she quickly suppressed it. She continued peeling the orange, feeding Yan He segment after segment, a smile playing on her lips.
The more Yan He ate, the more she felt like a small animal being fed in a zoo, especially seeing the way Lu Youqing looked at her with curved brows and eyes. This feeling intensified.
After finishing one orange, seeing Lu Youqing about to peel another, Yan He quickly said.
“You’re tired today, let me do it.”
With that, she took the half-peeled orange from Lu Youqing’s hand, painstakingly peeled the rest with one hand. Then she took a segment, held it up to Lu Youqing’s lips, and smiled.
“Eat.”
A flicker of surprise flashed in Lu Youqing’s eyes. Her heart pounded. Subconsciously, she tried to recall the last time they had such a back-and-forth exchange, forgetting for a moment to take the orange.
Yan He waited for her to react, wondering what she was thinking.
Lu Youqing quickly snapped back. She curved her lips, raised her hand to tuck the hair strands in front of her ear, and leaned over to bite the orange segment. As the fruit skin broke, the juice flowed onto Yan He’s fingertips. Yan He’s eyes swept over it, just about to pull her hand back, when the next second, her fingertips were surrounded by a warm, wet, and soft touch.
Yan He’s already chaotic mind suddenly stopped. She instinctively and uncontrollably recoiled her hand, holding it by her side, neither clenching nor letting it hang loose. She stared blankly at Lu Youqing, both ears bright red.
Yet, Lu Youqing acted as if she knew nothing: “What’s wrong?”
Yan He gnashed her teeth. The spot where she was touched by the tongue seemed to have an electric current running through it. Her entire left arm felt weak.
“N-nothing,” Yan He turned her head away in frustration, curling her fingers.
Maybe Lu Youqing didn’t mean it, Yan He consoled herself, after all, they were quite close. She didn’t dare to feed Lu Youqing anymore and finished the rest of the orange herself in a fit of pique. Throughout, seeing the curve of Lu Youqing’s smile, she grew increasingly annoyed.
Just when Yan He thought the day was finally over and it was time for sleep, she inadvertently looked around and froze.
She was in a single patient ward. There was only one bed in the room—hers.
So, where would Lu Youqing sleep?
