After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 4
When she realized this, Yan He swallowed nervously, her gaze darting around the room with a sense of unease.
She thought that although she had amnesia and had forgotten that Lu Youqing was her fiancée, Lu Youqing certainly hadn’t.
From Lu Youqing’s perspective, Yan He was her fiancée; sleeping in the same bed was a perfectly normal thing. Moreover, they had already proposed to each other, so they must have done much more intimate things. Now, it was just sharing a bed.
At the thought of this, Yan He covered her eyes with her hand and let out a deep sigh.
The problem was, she didn’t remember anything now. Was she really expected to sleep with Lu Youqing so soon?
Thinking this, Yan He peeked through the gaps between her fingers at Lu Youqing, only to find the woman looking at her with a gentle smile. Her eyes were curved, filled with knowing. She had realized long ago that there was only one bed in the ward and had intentionally kept quiet, waiting for Yan He to speak first.
Yan He gritted her teeth and looked up at Lu Youqing, trying her best not to show her weakness. However, the tense veins on her hand gripping the blanket gave her emotions away. Lu Youqing couldn’t help but feel a playful urge; even if she hadn’t originally intended to share the bed, she couldn’t resist teasing her now.
Yan He tried to organize her thoughts to figure out how to speak. Throughout the day, she had seen how well Lu Youqing cared for her. It was so late, and she was worried about Lu Youqing going home alone. She couldn’t bring herself to ask Lu Youqing to leave, and given her anxious state after the memory loss, she didn’t actually want her to leave.
Now, it seemed the only option was for Lu Youqing to sleep in the bed with her.
As Yan He’s mind raced, the blanket beside her was lifted. The sudden rush of cold air made Yan He stiffen. She jerked her head toward Lu Youqing, only to see her naturally pulling back the covers, preparing to lie down.
“Are you going to sleep now?”
Yan He couldn’t bring herself to tell Lu Youqing to leave, but she felt uneasy about sharing a bed. She had just woken up from a car accident with a blank memory—was she really going to sleep with a “stranger” of a fiancée she’d only known for a day?
To be honest, Yan He was nervous and a bit resistant.
Lu Youqing’s lips curved: “It’s late, of course we should sleep early.”
Yan He tried one last futile struggle: “I don’t think it’s that late. I can stay up a bit longer.”
“No, you still have injuries,” Lu Youqing corrected her, her tone becoming serious.
Yan He lowered her head and nodded passively. She gripped the bedsheet tightly. Because of her injuries, she couldn’t even shift her position. She could only feel Lu Youqing’s approaching presence, her heart thumping wildly.
Everything that happened today told her about her close relationship with Lu Youqing. Lying with her fiancée was a normal thing she’d have to face eventually, right? Yan He tried to comfort her heart, but her physical stiffness betrayed her.
“Does A-He not want me to sleep here?” Lu Youqing’s voice sounded from above, her tone carrying a hint of accusation, as if she had been greatly wronged.
Yan He looked up and met Lu Youqing’s soft eyes in the light. For a moment, she lost her confidence to speak. It felt as if her thoughts were ruthlessly exposed in Lu Youqing’s pupils. She suddenly felt very selfish.
“Before your accident, we were sharing a bed every night. Are you going to sleep apart from me now?” Lu Youqing’s voice was slightly husky, and her gaze held a trace of sadness, as if Yan He had done something terrible.
“Sorry, I really just…” Yan He lowered her head, biting her lip. She herself was confused as to why she was so reluctant. Just as she was about to continue, Lu Youqing cut her off.
“I know. A-He has amnesia and forgot who I am. It’s only natural you wouldn’t want to be with me. I should give A-He time to adjust.” As Lu Youqing spoke, she looked down and bit her lip. The light above made her porcelain skin seem to glow; in Yan He’s eyes, she looked like a deity.
Even though the “problem” was on Yan He’s end and had nothing to do with Lu Youqing, the woman took all the blame upon herself. Like gentle water, she enveloped everything and soothed Yan He’s trembling heart.
Yan He felt a prick of guilt. She thought that since she was injured anyway, just lying in the same bed to sleep shouldn’t be a big deal. Using her left arm and left leg, she pushed herself toward the right side, leaving a large space on the left side of the bed.
“You sleep here,” she said, patting the mattress beside her.
Lu Youqing’s eyes followed her closely, and only then did she finally deign to look at the spot on the bed.
Although it was a single hospital bed, it was more than enough for both her and Yan He. She watched Yan He move her body slowly and with difficulty just to leave the uninjured side for her. Realizing Yan He truly wanted her to sleep there, a complex emotion welled up in Lu Youqing’s eyes.
She stood up and tucked the blanket around Yan He. Under Yan He’s shocked and confused gaze, she walked to the cabinet, took out the extra blanket she had put away in the afternoon, went to the sofa, and spread it out.
“What are you doing?” Yan He stared blankly at Lu Youqing’s movements, then at the single sofa.
“Sleeping,” Lu Youqing said. After spreading the blanket, she walked over and lightly tapped Yan He’s nose.
“You’re still injured. How could I possibly sleep in the same bed as you? I was just teasing you.” Lu Youqing smiled, suppressing her genuine desire to sleep with Yan He.
Regarding Yan He’s injuries, Lu Youqing didn’t dare be careless. Especially when it came to sleeping together—an act where she might bump into Yan He’s wounds—she would never allow it.
Still, she felt a bit of disappointment. It was rare for A-He to invite her so proactively.
Yan He looked at the sofa. It was a single-seater. If Lu Youqing hadn’t spoken, Yan He would never have thought it was meant for sleeping. Even though Lu Youqing was slender, sleeping on such a narrow sofa couldn’t be comfortable.
“Sleeping there? Won’t it be uncomfortable?” Yan He asked. Remembering how Lu Youqing had been running around for her all day, she felt it was improper to let her sleep on that sofa.
“This bed is big enough for both of us. It’s fine. If I’m careful, I won’t touch my wounds,” she said, patting the sheet again. Her eyes were full of sincerity; she had truly made up her mind.
Lu Youqing stared down at the large empty space beside Yan He. When she looked up, her beautiful eyes held an emotion Yan He couldn’t decipher.
Yan He frowned slightly, feeling a mix of relief and heartache. The two of them stared at each other until Lu Youqing finally laughed.
“If A-He feels like I’m being mistreated, then how about… giving me some compensation?” she asked, her eyes sparkling slightly.
Yan He was confused. What compensation? She looked down at herself—an amnesiac, injured person. What compensation could she possibly give Lu Youqing?
Lu Youqing looked at Yan He, the emotion in her eyes so gentle it could melt into water.
“Sleeping on the sofa is indeed a bit inconvenient. But if A-He gives me some compensation, I might sleep very soundly.”
Yan He looked up at her, a sudden bad premonition rising: “What compensation?”
Lu Youqing’s lips curved as she met Yan He’s trembling gaze. Her lips parted: “I want A-He to…”
Her words suddenly cut off. For some reason, the nervous Yan He in front of her suddenly overlapped with a woman in her memory.
In a dimly lit scene, the woman’s hair was disheveled, her bloodshot eyes staring deathly at her. Cold words squeezed through her teeth, each syllable like a frost-covered blade carving into her heart.
“Lu Youqing, you make me feel disgusted.”
Disgusted?
Lu Youqing’s hands clenched tightly, her nails digging into her palms. Veins popped on the back of her hands. The flash of memory pierced her heart cruelly, and the smile on her face froze.
Yan He saw Lu Youqing suddenly dazed and felt bewildered. Because Lu Youqing was backlit, she couldn’t see the expression in her eyes. Just as she was about to say something, Lu Youqing spoke up quickly.
“A-He, give me a hug.”
“What?” The sudden turn in the conversation left Yan He confused.
“Hug me. The compensation is a hug, okay?” The gentle smile remained on Lu Youqing’s lips, but for once, Yan He saw a hint of forced effort and bitterness.
“Just a hug?” Yan He subconsciously sighed in relief. Given their conversation and the atmosphere earlier, she had instinctively assumed the compensation Lu Youqing wanted was a kiss. Thankfully, she was overthinking.
For some reason, the strange, romantic atmosphere that had filled the room vanished. The air conditioner blew a steady breeze, and Yan He felt a bit cold.
“Okay.” She nodded. If it was just a hug, she was certainly willing. With that, she opened her left arm and looked at Lu Youqing.
Lu Youqing leaned down, resting gently in Yan He’s arms, laying her head on Yan He’s shoulder. She couldn’t help but nuzzle against her. Her clenched hands finally relaxed as she wrapped them around Yan He’s waist, trembling as she felt Yan He’s warmth. Her hot breath brushed against Yan He’s neck, burning the base of her ears.
“A-He, don’t leave me… okay?” Her voice was almost a plea, like a traveler who had walked for days in the desert and finally found the last inch of an oasis, refusing to let go. Her voice was dark and husky.
Different from before, Yan He felt an incredibly thick emotion in her voice—like a tidal wave, like a gale. She suddenly felt as if her heart was being pressed down by a weight of several hundred pounds, making it hard to breathe.
She didn’t know what had happened to Lu Youqing in that brief moment. In her meager memories, she could only think that perhaps Lu Youqing had recalled the scene of the car accident and was feeling a lingering fear.
Her lover had been in an accident; even if the injuries weren’t severe afterward, the despair and heartache felt at the time wouldn’t vanish just because of later comfort.
Thinking this, she raised her left hand to hold Lu Youqing, gently patting her back to help soothe her emotions. The scene from earlier in the day seemed to reverse. She leaned into Lu Youqing’s ear and offered a stiff but sincere comfort.
“Don’t be afraid. Don’t worry, I won’t get into trouble. I promise you, this won’t happen again.”
Lu Youqing’s hand behind her back suddenly gripped Yan He’s clothing. Out of Yan He’s sight, her eyes turned crimson due to the surge of emotion. She closed her eyes and lightly nuzzled Yan He’s smooth neck, greedily inhaling the scent of the living Yan He.
“Really?” she pressed, refusing to let go.
“Of course,” Yan He promised. Though she didn’t know why she had the accident, she had to give her full assurance.
A-He… is so good.
Even though she knew nothing, even though she had forgotten everything, she still agreed to her request. She was truly so good.
Lu Youqing turned her head, hiding the slight upward curve of her lips in Yan He’s falling hair. Yan He had no idea what she would have done just now if she hadn’t heard an answer—even Lu Youqing herself wasn’t sure what she would have done.
After coaxing Lu Youqing, the night had grown deep. Lu Youqing turned off the room lights, leaving only a dim yellow lamp by Yan He’s bedside.
The yellow light fell on the corner of the bed. Looking through the light at the sofa not far away, Yan He suddenly felt a sense of peace. She buried her head in the blanket and peeked at the woman on the sofa.
She was in the light, Lu Youqing was in the dark. From her perspective, she couldn’t see Lu Youqing’s direction, not even the silhouette of the sofa. But she knew that Lu Youqing, like her, was not asleep.
“Lu Youqing…” she called out from under the blanket, her voice muffled. “How did we meet?”
The sound of rustling fabric came from nearby as someone turned over. Even in the dark, she could feel Lu Youqing looking at her. For some reason, a hint of nervousness rose in Yan He’s heart.
“Do you want to know?” Lu Youqing asked. Across the distance, she couldn’t sense the emotion in Lu Youqing’s voice.
“Of course I do.”
Yan He’s voice echoed in the silent room, drifting into Lu Youqing’s ears. Lu Youqing half-closed her eyes, hiding herself in the darkness, as if falling into an ocean of memories.
