After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 6
In the car accident, the vehicle that collided with Yan He had come from the right side. Consequently, most of her injuries were concentrated on her right, with the right arm and leg being the most severe. The left side of her body suffered mostly from minor scrapes and scratches, requiring minimal bandaging.
Perhaps due to being gouged by sharp objects during the crash, Yan He’s right leg was the most painful area of her injuries. She once saw a photograph provided by the doctor; a wound roughly 20 centimeters long stretched from her thigh down to the side of her calf, the flesh torn open. Just looking at it made Yan He break into a cold sweat as she recalled the phantom pain of that moment.
Since the wound on her leg was still being treated, she couldn’t leave the bed to walk, otherwise the wound might tear. For these past few days, she had effectively been pinned to the bed.
It was boring and stifling. Yan He simply asked Lu Youqing to tell her stories of their past. Lu Youqing spoke at length and in great detail, mostly about the trivial daily life of two eighteen-year-old high school girls. Yan He listened with great interest, piecing together the image of two vibrant young girls from Lu Youqing’s words. While her heart felt a sense of joy, it was also tinged with complexity.
These stories were narrated by Lu Youqing and then filled into her own mind. Yan He had tried to link these events to her brain, hoping to recall even a tiny fragment, but no matter how she tried, she couldn’t remember anything. It was as if she had no connection to the protagonist of these stories, other than sharing the same name.
To say she wasn’t sad would be a lie. Lu Youqing was clearly describing things that happened between them, yet she felt as if she had never participated. However, recovering one’s memory cannot be rushed. Even the doctor who examined her said:
“Sometimes, the more you try to force the memory back, the worse the results may be. It’s better to let it be and not worry about it.”
Days spent lying in bed were long, and every day was passed in Lu Youqing’s company. As time went on, Yan He’s fingernails gradually grew longer. When bored, she developed a habit of picking at them.
Seeing this, Lu Youqing would frown and catch her restless hand, forcing Yan He to meet her gaze. Her eyes would turn dark, but her voice remained as gentle as ever, though the words she spoke made Yan He’s heart tremble.
“If you keep doing that, I’m really going to have to tie your hands up, A-He.”
She half-squinted, and Yan He could only see her dark eyes beneath long lashes. For some reason, she felt Lu Youqing wasn’t just trying to scare her, so she could only shrink back and nod repeatedly.
As if she didn’t trust Yan He’s willpower, Lu Youqing kept a firm hold on her hand and took a pair of nail clippers from a nearby drawer to trim Yan He’s newly grown nails.
Their two fair hands were intertwined. Lu Youqing held one of her fingers, her expression meticulous and serious, as if she were performing a grave task.
The curtains in the room were half-drawn. The sunlight streaming in from the open half bathed Lu Youqing. It seemed even the sunlight was particularly fond of her, tenderly enveloping her body until every strand of hair seemed to glow.
She was wearing a white shirt today. Because the air conditioner was blowing cold air, she hadn’t taken off her blazer. Her hair fell casually over her suit jacket. Two buttons of her inner shirt were undone, revealing a large portion of her fair skin. Yan He barely glanced at it before quickly looking away.
She gazed down at Lu Youqing’s side profile. The beauty mark at the corner of Lu Youqing’s eye particularly drew her thoughts. She couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace. From their joined fingers, a burning flame seemed to ignite, traveling all the way to settle in her empty heart.
Lu Youqing’s movements slowed and eventually stopped. She looked up, meeting Yan He’s gaze just as she looked over.
Her clear pupils reflected Lu Youqing’s image. Her chestnut eyes and fluttering lashes were a heart-stirring sight.
Unable to resist, Lu Youqing leaned in. Her fingers slipped into the gaps of Yan He’s fingers, interlacing them tightly with no space left between.
Yan He was so startled by the proximity that she instinctively leaned back until her body hit the headboard. In front of her was the breathtakingly beautiful Lu Youqing. The two of them stared at each other.
The temperature in the room gradually rose. The air seemed to become viscous, and every breath carried a scorching heat. Distance was narrowed by the atmosphere. Yan He could feel Lu Youqing’s breath along with the wild thumping of her own heart, which felt like it might explode in her chest.
Lu Youqing lowered her gaze, her long lashes trembling. Her eyes fell upon Yan He’s soft lips, her gaze darkening, and then she leaned over.
Yan He froze, instinctively clenching her wrist, her whole body tensed. The next second, she felt a soft warmth brush against the corner of her mouth. It was like an electric current flowing from her lips through her entire body, tightening its grip on her consciousness. She reached out and her body involuntarily retreated, only to be pulled into a full embrace.
Whether out of disappointment or relief, Yan He felt the tight string in her mind—which had been taut since Lu Youqing approached—suddenly snap. She couldn’t help but sigh in relief. She looked at the strands of Lu Youqing’s hair beside her, wondering why she hadn’t actually kissed her, while simultaneously arguing with herself about whether she even wanted to be kissed.
Lu Youqing held her, her clear eyes staring at the headboard behind Yan He. She could feel the perspiration on the hand she held, a result of Yan He’s nervousness. It was sticky, trapping her heart firmly. Her other hand was clenched tightly, with her fingertips turning white from the force.
Not yet. It will scare A-He.
No one spoke for a while. Only their breaths mingled in the silence. A blush began to spread from the base of Yan He’s ears. Lu Youqing’s breathing seemed magnified, occupying all her senses. Their pressed chests made their heartbeats synchronize, rising and falling together. It felt as if she could only hear the sound of hearts beating.
“Knock, knock.” There was a knock on the door. Both of them, locked in the embrace, were startled. Lu Youqing closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, she had returned to normal. she turned her head to leave a light kiss on Yan He’s neck, then rose with a smile and opened the door under Yan He’s dazed gaze.
It was the doctor’s daily routine check-up.
By this time, Yan He’s wounds had mostly scabbed over. She could perform simple gripping motions with her fractured right hand, though it couldn’t move much in the cast.
Unfortunately, the leg injury still required further recuperation, but the doctor suggested she could try getting out of bed and walking a little.
Throughout the process, Yan He kept her head down, her hair falling to cover her face. She agreed to whatever the doctor said, looking very obedient, but beneath her hair, Yan He was nearly grinding her teeth to dust.
Lu Youqing did it on purpose!
Yan He bit her lip, fuming. Lu Youqing just had to kiss her neck the moment before the doctor entered! Did she not know how much her lipstick stained!? And she had to kiss her on the neck where there was no clothing to hide it. There was definitely a fresh kiss mark from Lu Youqing on her neck right now. If she hadn’t kept her head down and used her hair as a screen, the doctor would have certainly seen it!
The more Yan He thought about it, the angrier and more embarrassed she became. She even felt that Lu Youqing had worn such staining lipstick on purpose. She almost missed the doctor’s questions. Her reaction to being told she could walk a bit wasn’t significant; instead, it was Lu Youqing who asked several detailed questions.
Her ears and neck were burning. Yan He wanted to wipe the kiss mark away while they were talking, but just as she raised her hand, the phone on the table rang.
Yan He’s phone had been completely destroyed in the accident, so she didn’t have one; it could only be Lu Youqing’s phone.
Yan He instinctively looked over, thinking it was Lin Le bringing more necessities, but this time she saw a completely unfamiliar name on the screen. Just as her gaze fell on it, Lu Youqing took the phone away. She only saw that the caller’s last name was Xue.
Lu Youqing took the call, signaled to the doctor with a wave, and then pushed the door open to step outside. The sound of a water droplet falling echoed in Yan He’s heart.
“Miss Yan?” the doctor called. Yan He looked up, startled, then immediately remembered the kiss mark on her neck and quickly raised her hand to cover it as if casually.
“What is it?” she asked.
The doctor adjusted her glasses and wrote something in the notebook in front of her. “Most of your wounds have scabbed over now. Remember not to scratch them; if the scabs are pulled off early, it will leave scars easily.”
Yan He instinctively reached out to touch the wound on her arm, realizing her nails had been trimmed smooth by Lu Youqing. Even if she wanted to scratch, she couldn’t. She nodded.
The doctor had explained everything she needed to. Checking the time, she prepared to leave. Just as she reached the door and her hand touched the handle, she thought of something and stopped.
“Also, since your injuries are improving, you can engage in intimate activities occasionally. Just be careful not to touch the wounds.”
Yan He: “?”
Yan He: “!”
Yan He froze in place, her cheeks exploding in red. By the time she reacted and wanted to explain, the doctor had already opened the door and left.
The spot covered by her hand where the kiss mark lay felt as if it were burning, the heat traveling from her palm straight to her cheeks. she covered her face with both hands and screamed silently.
Yan He couldn’t believe the first time she hid her face with both hands would be out of such unbearable embarrassment.
When Lu Youqing returned from outside, she was greeted by Yan He’s expression of utter despair, which gave her quite a fright.
She rushed over, looking worried.
“What happened?”
Yan He snapped out of her “wishing-for-death” state and looked at Lu Youqing with a resentful gaze.
“It’s all your fault!” she said, showing Lu Youqing the neck that still bore the bright red lip print. Fearing she wouldn’t see it, she even used her hand to tuck the hair on that side behind her ear.
Her fair, slender neck was completely exposed. Beneath her pink earlobe, a lip print sat squarely on Yan He’s neck. It seemed one could even see the blood flowing in the veins beneath the mark.
She exposed her most vulnerable spot just like that, presenting it to Lu Youqing without any defense, trusting her completely.
Lu Youqing smiled slightly and reached out to touch Yan He’s cheek, but Yan He dodged.
Lu Youqing paused but wasn’t annoyed. After all, she hadn’t seen this childish and cute side of Yan He in a long time; it felt like being pulled back to their green high school years.
She smiled and withdrew her hand, sitting instead on the edge of Yan He’s bed. If it weren’t for Yan He’s injured leg, Yan He was certain Lu Youqing would have sat directly on her lap.
The distance closed abruptly. The scent of Lu Youqing’s perfume wafted into Yan He’s nose. She froze, and the neck she had proactively offered to Lu Youqing was suddenly cupped by her hand.
Lu Youqing supported her neck with one hand while the other carefully wiped away the lipstick mark. Her eyes were fixed on her neck as she apologized.
“Sorry, I didn’t know the doctor would come in.”
“I know. If you’d known the doctor was coming, the place you kissed wouldn’t have been as simple as my neck,” Yan He said huffily.
Lu Youqing paused and couldn’t help but laugh, showing no embarrassment at having her thoughts guessed by Yan He. Her hand lightly brushed Yan He’s neck, the touch as fleeting as a dragonfly skimming water.
The neck is a sensitive part of the human body. Being touched like that, Yan He felt as if every inch of skin where Lu Youqing’s fingers landed was trembling. Her lashes fluttered, and she couldn’t help but swallow nervously. The movement of her swallowing was naturally felt in Lu Youqing’s palm.
Lu Youqing chuckled, her index finger tracing circles on the neck, stroking inch by inch. She looked up at her, a playful smile in her eyes, her long dress swaying slightly in the breeze.
Yan He finally couldn’t take it anymore—not just Lu Youqing’s gaze, but also that empty, heart-pounding feeling of proximity. She reached out to grip Lu Youqing’s wrist and turned her head away, her neck still feeling the warmth of Lu Youqing’s palm.
“That… that’s enough.”
