After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 7
Her voice was husky. Because Lu Youqing was cupping her neck, every time she spoke, she felt the friction of Lu Youqing’s palm against her skin—one stroke after another, stirring waves in her heart that made her shrink back involuntarily.
Yan He gripped Lu Youqing’s wrist, using a bit of force to pull her hand away.
The rich fragrance dissipated, and Yan He’s breath, which had felt invisibly locked away, finally seemed to flow smoothly. She lowered her head, panting slightly, her chest rising and falling as she pursed her somewhat dry lips.
The distance between them showed no signs of widening. Lu Youqing looked down at Yan He, taking in every change in her expression, her eyes darkening.
A long time passed—long enough for Yan He’s breathing to level out—and yet she still heard no reaction from Lu Youqing. Even the woman’s breathing seemed to have stopped in an eerie silence.
If she hadn’t been holding Lu Youqing’s wrist and feeling the warmth of her pulse, she would have almost thought the person in front of her had vanished.
Yan He tilted her head, her falling hair obscuring most of her vision. She composed herself and looked up slightly at Lu Youqing, only to meet a pair of deep, unfathomable eyes.
Lu Youqing gazed at her, her eyes slowly traveling down from her cheeks to their interlaced hands.
Only then did Yan He realize she was still clutching Lu Youqing’s wrist. She hurriedly let go.
Lu Youqing’s skin was very white and delicate; the slightest touch would leave a red mark. Because Yan He had used some force earlier, several distinct finger marks remained on her wrist. Seeing this, Yan He quickly apologized.
“Sor… sorry.” She must have used too much strength just now.
Lu Youqing stared fixedly at her own wrist. The porcelain-white skin wrapped in distinct red marks looked jarring, yet Lu Youqing’s lips curved into a smile, as if she were very satisfied with this “work” Yan He had left behind.
She reached out and tucked a stray strand of hair behind Yan He’s ear, revealing her flawless face.
“A-He,” she said, her index finger hooking Yan He’s chin to force eye contact. Her red lips parted.
“I am your fiancée. You don’t need to say sorry.”
Fiancée.
Yan He chewed on the title repeatedly in her mind, her ears turning slightly red. Under Lu Youqing’s commanding gaze, she nodded lower.
Lu Youqing finally let go, sat up from the edge of the bed, and picked up a water glass to take a slow sip. Because of the kiss earlier, her lipstick was unevenly applied, and now most of it had transferred onto the glass.
Yan He’s gaze followed the glass as it was set down. She seemed to feel the sticky sensation of the lip print on her neck all over again. She turned her head away, and her eyes landed on the phone Lu Youqing had placed on the table.
During the check-up earlier, the doctor had replaced the gauze on her head. Whether it was a subconscious effect or not, she felt her thinking had become much clearer.
“Was that call earlier from Lin Le looking for me?” Yan He asked.
Lu Youqing looked at her. “What would she want with you?”
“When you were away before, I asked her to bring me a few books. She said she’d bring them next time she came,” Yan He explained, looking at Lu Youqing with expectation for an answer.
Lu Youqing sat nearby, resting her chin on her hand as she watched her. “Why didn’t you tell me about something like that?”
Yan He: “You’re already so tired from staying here with me every day. If I made you do those things too, I… I’d feel guilty.”
Lu Youqing tilted her head upon hearing this, staring at her intently. Her pitch-black eyes naturally carried a cold, distant quality; this was even more pronounced when she wasn’t smiling.
Yan He’s words greatly pleased Lu Youqing. She didn’t bother to scrutinize whether they were true or false. She leaned forward with a smile and couldn’t help but rub Yan He’s cheek, her usual tenderness returning.
“It’s okay. Just remember to tell me these things in the future,” she said, before continuing her explanation.
“That call wasn’t from Lin Le.”
“Oh, okay.” Yan He’s tone was a bit dejected. She didn’t press to ask who it was, acting as if she truly was only interested in the books Lin Le was bringing.
Lu Youqing looked at the fluffy hair on the crown of Yan He’s lowered head and couldn’t help but smile.
“Alright, I’ll ask her later,” she added after a thought.
“That call was from Sister Xue.”
“Sister Xue?” Yan He looked up, her eyes showing confusion.
“You know her, you just forgot because of the amnesia,” Lu Youqing replied.
“Is she also my friend?”
Lu Youqing looked at her with a cryptic smile. “No. To be precise, she isn’t ‘our’ friend. She’s my business partner, similar to my… boss.”
Yan He’s heart skipped a beat. This was the first time Lu Youqing had spoken to her about her work.
Recalling how Lu Youqing had stayed by her side almost every second of these past few days to care for her, Yan He truly hadn’t considered that Lu Youqing had a job. More accurately, it wasn’t until Lu Youqing mentioned the word “work” that Yan He realized such a thing existed.
“Is she calling to urge you to get back to work?” Yan He asked timidly.
Lu Youqing raised an eyebrow, her eyes shifting as she let out a sigh. She rarely showed a sad expression: “Yes, I even got scolded. It’s so upsetting.” As she spoke, she looked at Yan He, her soulful eyes welling up with mist like a jar of aged wine—one look and anyone would be intoxicated. It seemed that after Yan He spoke, the grievances of the past few days finally found an outlet.
Yan He froze instinctively, her heart trembling. She lowered her eyes, her voice tight: “Is it because of me?”
Because of her injuries, Lu Youqing had to stay and accompany her, thus pushing away work and getting scolded by that person.
The ward she was in was a VIP room. Even without her memory, Yan He knew that “VIP” meant expensive. She felt even more guilty.
“I’m sorry. It’s all because of me.”
Lu Youqing had originally intended to play the victim to gain some sympathy and affection from Yan He, but she hadn’t expected the girl to fall into such deep self-reproach.
“It’s not your fault,” she said, reaching out to cup Yan He’s face so she would look at her. “I originally planned to put work aside and rest for a while anyway. Even before you were hospitalized, I had already agreed on a break with Xue Yi.”
“Really?” Yan He didn’t believe her. Even if Lu Youqing had agreed to a break, wasn’t spending that break in a hospital caring for her a waste of her rest time? No matter how she looked at it, Yan He felt terrible.
Lu Youqing seemed to realize what Yan He was thinking. She leaned over to embrace Yan He, burying her head in her neck, her breath like orchids.
“To me, right now is a very good rest.”
For her, “rest” had never been about just staying home and lying down. Every second she spent looking at Yan He filled her with joy. Being with Yan He was the only time she truly felt relaxed.
Yan He reached out to hug her, awkwardly patting her shoulder. “Then sleep for a bit.”
Lu Youqing nuzzled her neck and said softly, “Okay.”
“Will Sister Xue call you again? Will she scold you more?”
“No, she wouldn’t dare.”
During the check-up, the doctor informed them that Yan He could get out of bed for light movement, though it was best not to put too much strain on her right leg.
Finally, Yan He stood up for the first time since losing her memory. The feeling of her feet touching the floor made her feel grounded; it was impossible not to feel excited.
Her left leg was uninjured and could move normally, but the wound on her right leg prevented her from bending it, meaning she had to use her left leg for most of the effort. She looked a bit awkward walking, and because of the injury, her right leg still hurt when she stood firmly. Therefore, she couldn’t stay on her feet for too long.
Lu Youqing only allowed her to walk around the ward for a short while with her support.
“You’ve walked many steps today. If you keep going, your right leg will hurt. Be good,” Lu Youqing comforted her gently.
At that moment, Yan He was sitting on the hospital bed while Lu Youqing was feeding her a bowl of porridge.
Although Yan He’s left hand was capable of scooping the porridge herself, Lu Youqing insisted on feeding her. Fortunately, after spending this time together, Yan He had adapted to Lu Youqing’s meticulous care and didn’t feel as embarrassed anymore.
Lu Youqing scooped a spoonful and fed it to Yan He. This porridge was made by her personally and suited Yan He’s taste perfectly.
Yan He swallowed obediently and suddenly remembered something.
“In a while, once the wound on my leg is completely healed, can I be discharged?” she asked. Staying in the hospital with nothing to do for these past few days was truly too boring; she was desperate to leave.
“Yes, we’ll go home as soon as your injuries are better.” Lu Youqing lightly blew on the porridge in the spoon before offering it to Yan He.
“That’s great,” Yan He said happily, her eyes lighting up with joy.
Watching her, Lu Youqing couldn’t help but curve her brows.
The phone beside them suddenly rang. Both looked over to see the caller: Xue Yi.
Lu Youqing’s expression faltered. She set the porridge bowl down, picked up the phone, and hesitated for a few moments. Ultimately, she didn’t leave the ward; she answered the call right beside Yan He. She didn’t use the speakerphone, so Yan He couldn’t hear the other side.
Yan He’s face darkened. This was the third call from Xue Yi in two days. If what Lu Youqing said was true, Xue Yi might really have urgent work matters.
“Alright, I understand, Sister Xue. Sorry for the trouble during this time.” Lu Youqing hung up. Seeing Yan He’s grave expression, she couldn’t help but ask.
“Why the long face?”
Yan He looked at her and let out a deep sigh. “Is Sister Xue looking for you for work?”
Lu Youqing hadn’t intended to hide it from Yan He anyway. “There is a little bit of business.”
Hearing this, Yan He said quickly, “Go to work then! I’ll be fine here by myself.” She still felt guilty about Lu Youqing caring for her constantly.
“These past few days probably aren’t part of your planned break. Go handle your work first; I’ll wait for you to come back.” She really didn’t want to see Lu Youqing pushing away work just to look after her.
Lu Youqing frowned slightly. She leaned closer to Yan He and asked, “What will you do if I leave?”
Yan He shook her head and gave her a standard smile, her eyes sparkling and her voice turning gentle. “It’s fine. Isn’t Lin Le here? Besides, the wound on my leg isn’t fully healed, so I can’t go anywhere anyway.”
“What’s more, aren’t there those two bodyguards in black suits at the door? With them watching over me, nothing will happen.”
