After Marrying the Cold and Elegant Beauty, I Fell in Love (GL) - Chapter 10
It’s over, it’s over.
Han Shuangshuang was crying for mercy in her heart.
Shen Yuru still misunderstood. It’s all the fault of this damn system. She wasn’t a doctor, so how was she supposed to cure Shen Yuru’s heart disease? This was completely out of her field of expertise.
[System: Friendly Reminder: Shen Yuru’s heart healing progress has increased to 10%. Please keep up the good work, Host!]
Seeing Shen Yuru’s slightly angered expression, Han Shuangshuang acted like a puppy that had done something wrong, rubbing her hands together nervously. But the moment she heard the system notification, her puppy eyes lit up.
“Sister Shen, don’t you feel a lot warmer now? That’s all thanks to my hard work last night. Your constitution is too weak—it’s the middle of summer, yet you have no body heat at all. Luckily, I’m young and full of energy, so I absorbed all that cold air into my own body. Instead of being grateful, you’re turning around and blaming me, saying I have bad intentions? I am truly being wronged here!”
Han Shuangshuang pouted, delivering a dramatic and emotional protest.
Since the heart healing progress had increased, and the system said it only goes up when Shen Yuru’s heart “ripples,” it meant that Shen Yuru actually felt grateful deep down, even if she was being stubborn.
Getting into the flow, Han Shuangshuang clapped her hands and gave Shen Yuru a knowing look. “What do they call this behavior? The Farmer and the Snake? Lyu Dongbin and the Dog…”
Shen Yuru’s cold voice cut in with a faint interrogation. “Are you calling me a biting snake and an ungrateful dog, Classmate Han?”
“Of course not! How could I think that? Sister Shen is the most appreciative person I know—otherwise, why would you help me study? I was just giving you a few examples.”
As she spoke, Han Shuangshuang’s stomach let out a loud growl. “I haven’t eaten since yesterday at noon. Forget your weakness, Sister Shen, I’m about to starve to death. Let’s get out of here and find some food at the canteen.”
Now that the healing progress had increased, Han Shuangshuang felt her work for the day was done. As a “worker,” once you finish your shifts, you shouldn’t have to face the pressure of the boss anymore. She just wanted to eat her fill, sneak back to the dorm, and lie on her bed scrolling through her phone.
She opened her phone to ask Yan Huan for help.
Shen Yuru rubbed the hem of her clothes with her index finger. It felt as though some of the warmth Han Shuangshuang had given her still lingered on her skin.
Suddenly, there was a noise at the door.
“Senior, Shen Yuru is definitely in there. I saw her with my own eyes last night. Han Shuangshuang was with her too. They were acting very close, who knows what they were doing… Is it bad to go in now? What if they haven’t woken up yet, or we walk in on something embarrassing?” Wu Huimin was fanning the flames from the side.
Long Aodi held a key, preparing to open the door. Since Han Shuangshuang and Shen Yuru were sitting in the back row—a visual blind spot—the pair hadn’t seen them from the front or back doors earlier.
Long Aodi had obtained the key from the building manager. Because he was the Student Union President, the manager trusted him implicitly. He knew Han Shuangshuang’s reputation—a playboy and a delinquent. He was certain Shen Yuru was being coerced. If he rushed in now to “rescue” her, she would surely be grateful.
Hearing the commotion, Shen Yuru frowned. She hated being entangled in drama. She grabbed Han Shuangshuang’s wrist and pulled her into the space behind the curtains of the last window.
The classroom curtains were long, floor-length, and dark enough to block out the sun, perfectly hiding both of them. Han Shuangshuang stared with innocent puppy eyes as Shen Yuru suddenly pinned her against the wall, leaving zero distance between them.
Shen Yuru was pressed against Han Shuangshuang, but she tilted her head slightly, listening intently to Long Aodi and Wu Huimin. She didn’t understand why Long Aodi kept trying to approach her.
Han Shuangshuang gasped silently—Shen Yuru was stepping on her foot. Shen Yuru held Han Shuangshuang’s wrists tightly, afraid she wouldn’t cooperate or would run out. She was always cautious; until she figured out Han Shuangshuang’s true motives, she wouldn’t fully trust her.
Han Shuangshuang desperately wanted to whisper a reminder about her foot, but she saw Shen Yuru’s furrowed brows and cold phoenix eyes staring unblinkingly at the curtain edge. Shen Yuru’s eyelashes were so long, and her skin was incredibly smooth—like a peeled egg without a single blemish. And she had a perfect face shape; even though they were similar in height, Shen Yuru’s face was significantly smaller than hers. Envying such perfection was easy.
“That’s impossible, I saw them here last night,” Wu Huimin whispered.
“Maybe they climbed out the window?” Long Aodi suggested, looking at the high windows.
“I don’t know. Senior, let’s just go eat. Let’s not look for them anymore.”
Shen Yuru was wearing small leather shoes with heels, and they were really hurting Han Shuangshuang’s toes. Her patience reached its limit. She really wanted to say something.
Unexpectedly, she let out a tiny sound: “Shen…”
Han Shuangshuang was startled by her own murmur. But in the next second, Shen Yuru suddenly raised her head and blocked her mouth.
That’s right—blocked. With her own lips.
It was purely a move to shut her up, devoid of emotion. Han Shuangshuang’s puppy eyes widened like brass bells.
Shen Yuru’s lips were like her personality: cool and without heat. But they were soft, like pudding with just the right amount of gelatin. Han Shuangshuang felt her breathing stop. The clean, cold scent of Shen Yuru flooded her nose, like mountain spring water flowing into her heart.
Then, her brain finally caught up. To lower the Blackening Value, she had to stand up for Shen Yuru when she was being bullied. If she could solve problems similar to Shen Yuru’s, it would also help. Therefore, she shouldn’t prevent Shen Yuru from seeing Long Aodi’s true colors.
Long Aodi paced the room twice, but finding no one, he looked discouraged. Shen Yuru had a weak body and a soft personality; she was brilliant and in the same grade. Her IQ matched his, and she seemed easy to control. More importantly, she was a daughter of a wealthy family. If he could win her over, he could use her family’s resources to climb the social ladder and achieve his dream of class mobility.
In his mind, only someone like Shen Yuru was barely worthy of him. The other “brainless” girls who only cared about games and skincare didn’t even deserve to be near him.
Long Aodi and Wu Huimin eventually left. Shen Yuru finally released her hold on Han Shuangshuang. Han Shuangshuang, who had been holding her breath, let out a long, heavy sigh.
She realized now: the “dog” who had locked them in the classroom was Wu Huimin. Being such a dedicated “simp” was almost impressive. Wu Huimin was that common type of petty person—quiet and mild on the surface, but always ready to stab you in the back.
Han Shuangshuang instinctively touched her lips. Shen Yuru looked away, completely ignoring the gesture.
[System: Congratulations, Host! Shen Yuru’s heart healing progress has increased by 5%. Current total: 15%.]
There’s a silver lining after all. Hearing the notification, Han Shuangshuang pushed everything else to the back of her mind. The two of them, each with their own thoughts, parted ways without even a goodbye.
After finishing breakfast, Han Shuangshuang returned to her dorm and let out a huge yawn. Sleeping sitting up all night had left her body aching everywhere.
Yan Huan sat opposite her, winking. “Not bad, Han Shuangshuang! Studying all night? You’ve become so diligent.”
“Don’t get the wrong idea! I really was studying. I don’t want to repeat a year.” Han Shuangshuang stretched her stiff shoulders.
“Look at how drained you are. Those dark circles are down to your chin. Usually, you fall asleep within three minutes of opening a book—what could possibly keep you energized all night?” Yan Huan chuckled. “Come on, let’s go to a bar and cut loose. Don’t turn your brain into mush from studying.”
Han Shuangshuang’s eyes lit up. In her original world, she was too poor to ever go to a bar. She always wanted to know what the nightlife was like.
Of course, if she had known she would run into the original host’s ex-girlfriend here, she wouldn’t have come even if she were threatened with death.
Seeing the “crematorium” scene unfolding, Yan Huan immediately slipped away. Han Shuangshuang hadn’t even warmed her seat at the bar before a stunning beauty in revealing clothes walked up with a glass of strong liquor, looking at her with a resentful gaze.
In the moment, Han Shuangshuang wondered if she had done something terrible to this person. She wasn’t about to take the blame for the original host!
[System: Don’t be so cowardly, Host. Stick to the persona!]
Not far away, in the darkest corner of the bar, Shen Yuru sat quietly, her phoenix eyes watching Han Shuangshuang with cold indifference.
