After Marrying the Cold and Elegant Beauty, I Fell in Love (GL) - Chapter 12
Yun Ruyi saw Shen Yuru looking at Han Shuangshuang with a heavy, dark expression.
A cryptic smile curled the corner of her lips. She dropped her previous aggressive stance and stood aside with her arms crossed, looking like she was settling in to watch a good show. Her bright eyes sparkled even more than before.
Han Shuangshuang tried her best to stay calm, but the situation felt wrong no matter how she looked at it. It seemed as though Yun Ruyi had intentionally baited her just now. She had said those strange things specifically to make Han Shuangshuang blurt out words related to Shen Yuru. It was as if she wouldn’t be satisfied until Shen Yuru misunderstood.
“I truly didn’t know I played such a role in Classmate Han’s eyes. Unfortunately, I’m not interested in participating further.”
Shen Yuru’s face was as dark as ink. Though her voice was calm, Han Shuangshuang could hear a trace of gritted teeth and the fury of being deceived beneath the loud bar music.
[System: Friendly Reminder: Shen Yuru’s Blackening Value is fluctuating. Please appease her immediately to prevent a rebound.]
Whenever Han Shuangshuang got anxious, her puppy eyes looked incredibly innocent. She gazed at Shen Yuru blankly, reaching out both hands to explain, but her mouth opened and closed without a single word coming out.
Seeing those two “fluffy puppy paws” reaching toward her, Shen Yuru’s anger intensified. If Han Shuangshuang were consistent inside and out, she wouldn’t be this conflicted. She knew clearly that Han Shuangshuang hadn’t approached her with good intentions, yet time and again she had compromised, indulged, and allowed the girl to get close.
And now, even after Han Shuangshuang’s true motives had been laid bare, the girl still looked at her with that “it’s all a misunderstanding” expression—using those pitiful puppy eyes to beg for forgiveness. How could someone be so thick-skinned and shameless?
Shen Yuru clutched her chest. It felt like a long-suppressed spark of hope had been extinguished once again. A dull pain throbbed in her heart, and her face turned pale. She was already used to this pain—so used to it that she no longer viewed it as suffering, but as something that had made her numb.
Han Shuangshuang panicked completely. Seeing Shen Yuru in pain, she was as anxious as an ant on a hot griddle.
Damn system! You let me transmigrate but didn’t tell me the character backgrounds or the side characters’ names. If I go down, I’m taking the whole system with me!
[System: Those words came from the Host’s own mouth. You must take responsibility for what you say; the system did not provide those specific instructions.]
Seeing Han Shuangshuang’s distress, Yan Huan stroked her chin and leaned in to whisper, “I thought you remembered. Did you really study yourself stupid? Yun Ruyi is Yun Yun’s older sister and the owner of this bar. Yun Yun and Shen Yuru’s families are old friends. Even if they don’t seem close at school, they have a good relationship privately. When your brain short-circuited and you decided you liked Yun Ruyi, insisting she seduce your dad… I did warn you. Who knew you’d just forget it?”
Han Shuangshuang could practically hear herself grinding her teeth. She looked at the troublemaking Yan Huan. She had sensed something was off earlier—Yan Huan’s eyes had gone straight when she saw the Student Union Vice President (Yun Yun). No wonder she dragged Han Shuangshuang to this specific bar and bragged about treating her; it was her crush’s sister’s bar. Coming alone was awkward, so she used Han Shuangshuang as a shield, and then threw her under the bus.
[System: Warning! Warning! Shen Yuru is experiencing chest pain. If the Host does not intervene and she remains trapped in painful emotions, her heart damage will increase, lowering her healing value and triggering a series of unlucky events for the Host.]
Han Shuangshuang grabbed Shen Yuru’s wrist. Just as she was about to explain, Yun Ruyi interrupted. “Han Shuangshuang, everything is clear now. Why are you still pestering Shen Yuru?”
Yun Ruyi’s interference was the last straw for Han Shuangshuang. She was starting to feel that the title of “vicious supporting character” was truly an injustice. Sure, what the original host did was a bit outrageous, but why did all the blame and filth have to be dumped on her now?
“What’s the point in testing me? My brain short-circuited back then and I gave you money to do some things, but I didn’t hold a knife to your throat. It was a fair trade, and you agreed. Now you take the money and turn around to belittle me? What kind of logic is that? Those things you just said—you were clearly baiting me, acting and speaking in a way to create a misunderstanding. You just wanted Sister Shen to hear it so you could break us up! Well, I won’t let you have your way!”
No one expected Han Shuangshuang to be so blunt. While Yun Ruyi was stunned, Han Shuangshuang had already dragged Shen Yuru out of the bar.
Shen Yuru’s expression was still dark. Due to the pain in her chest, physiological tears had gathered in her eyes, making them glint in the night. She said nothing, but her gaze made Han Shuangshuang feel as though she had said everything. She felt like a scumbag who played with innocent girls’ hearts.
Usually, at a time like this, explanations are useless. Best to take the initiative.
“Why would Sister Shen come to a place like this? You know your heart is weak. The noise is so loud and the lights are flashing—what if the stimulation made you faint? It’s so crowded; a stampede could easily happen. Sister Shen, did you ever stop to think if I would be worried? If I would be sad?”
Shen Yuru had been staring at her with a coldness that felt like icy needles, but upon hearing Han Shuangshuang’s words, her phoenix eyes dazed for a moment. Her “attack” paused for a few seconds.
“Yes, I did some foolish things in the past. But Sister Shen also knows my situation at home. My father doesn’t love me, my mother is gone… a stepmother brings a ‘stepfather.’ My so-called sister is passive-aggressive every day, and my damn father beats me every other day for the sake of his new wife and daughter. It’s a miracle I haven’t grown up twisted or turned against society! So what if I tried a small, bad thing and it didn’t even work? Besides, Yun Ruyi took the money. She took the money but didn’t do the job, and now she criticizes my values? Where is the justice in that?”
Han Shuangshuang grew more emotional as she spoke, fully immersing herself in the original host’s plight.
“And you came here without telling me. It’s a den of dragons and snakes—all sorts of people come here. You’re physically weak and so beautiful; what if some pervert targeted you? You wouldn’t even be able to fight back!”
“But what disappoints me most is that Sister Shen actually believed Yun Ruyi. I thought after our time together, you saw me as a friend. When there’s a misunderstanding between friends, shouldn’t you ask for the truth face-to-face? How could you let an outsider provoke you like that?”
Han Shuangshuang huffed and turned her back to Shen Yuru, acting as though she was the one who was angry.
Shen Yuru was no longer clutching her chest. At some point, the pain had vanished as if healed. Even her turbulent, irritable emotions had gradually smoothed out. Looking at Han Shuangshuang’s back—looking like a ruffled, angry puppy—Shen Yuru pursed her thin lips. Her slender index finger twitched.
It… actually seems like it was my fault?
She was born into wealth, but after her parents died, she had no adults to rely on. Though she held company shares, her relatives circled like vultures. Luckily, there were some subordinates loyal to her parents—and Yun Yun and Yun Ruyi were their children. Yun Ruyi had said she would test Han Shuangshuang’s true face, which is why Shen Yuru had waited in the bar.
She hadn’t expected that Han Shuangshuang would be the one to “explode” first.
Shen Yuru was naturally a person of few words. Once Han Shuangshuang stopped talking, silence fell between them. It was the middle of the night; only the bar behind them was boisterous. Outside, it was silent. Moonlight bathed them both. Shen Yuru lowered her lashes, her eyes downcast.
Han Shuangshuang, meanwhile, was trying to slow her breathing. After the outburst, she was hyper-focused on Shen Yuru’s presence. Oh god, I got too excited and said everything. I even scolded the future arch-villain. Is this where I die? She imagined Shen Yuru’s bodyguards were lurking nearby, ready to slit her throat in three seconds.
Han Shuangshuang went from a “ruffled puppy” to a “dejected puppy,” her arms dropping limply to her sides. A gentle breeze blew, cooling the sweat in her palms.
Suddenly, she felt a cool but slightly warm index finger hook onto her pinky.
Han Shuangshuang’s ears perked up. She turned around with a hint of feigned reluctance. Looking at Shen Yuru, she saw the woman’s lips pursed and her eyes downcast. Though she didn’t look happy, the aura of rage had vanished.
A total, real-life “Tsundere.” And Han Shuangshuang was a sucker for those. She pouted, hooked her pinky back into Shen Yuru’s, and squeezed tight.
“Fine. I’ll forgive you this once.”
[System: Please fulfill the ‘vicious supporting character’ persona by making an unreasonable demand. Choose one of the following for Shen Yuru:]
[Requirement 1: Make Shen Yuru give the Host a fawning kiss.]
[Requirement 2: The Host ‘lubricates’ and sucks on Shen Yuru’s fingertip.]
Han Shuangshuang: “…”
When it comes to being a pervert, the system truly reigns supreme.
