After Marrying the Cold and Elegant Beauty, I Fell in Love (GL) - Chapter 4
The moment Han Shuangshuang mentioned calling the police, the three girls’ panic was visible to the naked eye.
They weren’t particularly capable or in the right, but huddling together had given them a strange, misplaced sense of confidence.
“You don’t have evidence! Don’t talk nonsense, this is slander! Senior Long, look at them! They just barged in here to cause trouble for no reason!”
Seeing that she couldn’t out-argue Han Shuangshuang, the leader of the trio ducked behind Long Aodi, seeking protection.
The other two girls stood up and nodded frantically. “It’s not as scary as she makes it sound! Shen Yuru didn’t leave anything important here. Even though she technically lives here, she only comes back occasionally. Sometimes she stays out all night—we don’t even know what she’s up to! We tried to show her kindness and concern, but she just ignored us. She never paid her share of the dorm fees or helped with the cleaning. Since her family is rich, the counselor doesn’t care. How were we supposed to know how much those things cost? Besides, they’ve been sitting there so long, they’d just expire if no one used them. What’s wrong with us using a little? Now that they’re used, you open your mouth and claim they cost thousands or tens of thousands. Han Shuangshuang, just because your family has power and you bought your way into this university doesn’t mean you can threaten us with the police. Everyone knows who the police would side with! You’re just trying to scare us. If this gets out, the school will definitely side with us!”
Shen Yuru pulled out her phone.
Initially, she hadn’t planned to get involved. But somehow, looking at these people’s faces, she suddenly didn’t want them to get their way so easily.
Shen Yuru’s hair was long and smelled faintly pleasant; its color was a deep black with a hint of brown. As she lowered her head, a few strands of hair accidentally brushed against Han Shuangshuang’s face.
Han Shuangshuang looked at the system page, which showed Shen Yuru’s blackening value had dropped by another 1%. A wave of relief washed over her.
As expected, a villain isn’t made in a day. These people were like individual snowflakes on a mountain; when the avalanche happens, not a single one is innocent.
Thinking about her own future ending, Han Shuangshuang shuddered, further hardening her resolve to back Shen Yuru up.
“These are the purchase records for my items. There are still unused ones on the desk; you can check them one by one. The reason I didn’t stay in the dorm was that I was constantly being ostracized. Because of school regulations, I couldn’t find a place outside before. Now that I’m a junior, the counselor approved my request to move out. However, they stole my key. Whenever I came back to get my things, they either refused to open the door or pretended not to be here. I didn’t want to make a scene, but this is crossing the line.”
Shen Yuru spoke slowly, but her pronunciation was clear and her delivery steady, laying out the facts of the situation perfectly.
No matter how much the three girls tried to act, they could no longer save face.
“Who knows if those records are Photoshopped? You’re usually so difficult to deal with, but now that there are people around, you start acting pitiful. How shameless.” The girl hiding behind Long Aodi muttered under her breath. Though she intentionally lowered her voice, everyone present heard it. The other two girls smirked, looking triumphant.
Han Shuangshuang was about to explode; she felt her hair was practically standing on end. To encounter such a morally bankrupt situation right after transmigrating!
She stopped wasting time. “No need for more useless talk. We’re calling the police. I’ve recorded everything you just said. You’re suspected of insult, defamation, and theft of property. If you have any excuses, tell them to the police and see if they buy it.”
Han Shuangshuang dialed the number, her attitude firm.
The three girls had assumed that once Long Aodi arrived, he would smooth things over. At worst, they’d just have to apologize. They didn’t expect that their arrogance would push Han Shuangshuang to actually call the police.
“What exactly is your relationship with Shen Yuru? This is between us and her; it’s not your place to interfere!”
“Heh, I’ve got quite a temper.” Han Shuangshuang had never met people so capable of twisting black into white—they were like death-row inmates who wouldn’t confess even with evidence slapped on their faces. “I don’t need a relationship with her. I’m just upholding justice. It’s like walking down the street and seeing two dogs barking at people—anyone would give them a kick.”
The dial tone echoed from Han Shuangshuang’s phone.
The two girls who had been huddled by the door couldn’t take the pressure anymore. Terrified, they lunged forward and snatched the phone from Han Shuangshuang’s hand.
Long Aodi hadn’t expected things to escalate this far. He had come to mediate out of “kindness,” but neither Han Shuangshuang nor Shen Yuru was giving him any face.
Han Shuangshuang also hadn’t expected them to be so desperate.
“We were wrong! Please don’t call the police! I know her things are expensive, but everyone else was using them. If I didn’t, they would have ostracized me too! If the police come and I get caught, I’ll be disciplined or expelled. My parents worked so hard for years to put me through school so I could succeed. If I don’t graduate, I’ll never find a job. I’ll have to marry some greasy man and be pressured by a mother-in-law to pop out three kids in two years! I don’t want that! Please, I really know I was wrong!”
Once one person started apologizing, the mental defenses of the other two crumbled.
“It was her! She was the mastermind! She hated Shen Yuru the most because Long Aodi was close to her. She was jealous and did this out of revenge! She’s the one who intentionally soaked the letters and the stuff in the boxes with water! It had nothing to do with us!”
The “mastermind” girl was now trembling so hard her lips were shaking. Han Shuangshuang realized that the most malicious people are often the ones who refuse to take responsibility for their actions.
Han Shuangshuang moved to grab her phone back, but Shen Yuru reached out a hand to stop her.
Long Aodi looked back and heard the dorm mother’s footsteps on the stairs. This was a girls’ dorm; without a school permit, he wasn’t supposed to be here. Because he was popular, the girls had sneaked him in while the dorm mother was away. He realized he had spent all this time here and achieved nothing.
Shen Yuru raised her eyes, her gaze cold and devoid of emotion. She looked at the three girls like a high-and-mighty queen looking down at insignificant ants. To her, their actions were merely a joke. If she was in the mood, she’d look down; if not, they couldn’t stir up any trouble in her palm anyway.
“We are classmates, so of course I won’t be too ruthless. As long as you tell me: while I was away, who else came into this room and touched my things?”
Since Shen Yuru had spoken, Han Shuangshuang couldn’t say much more. She indignantly snatched her phone back.
The three girls stammered, but didn’t give clear answers. They mentioned a few names that Han Shuangshuang vaguely recognized but couldn’t place. She had skipped through the later chapters too fast to remember minor characters.
Long Aodi felt awkward and was forced to turn and leave.
Seeing their “backer” gone, the three girls became even more cowardly. They tried to come forward to apologize, but because the arrogant girl had secretly spilled water on the floor by Shen Yuru’s boxes earlier, the floor was damp. The two of them stepped too wide, collided, and pitched forward. They slid across the floor right to Shen Yuru’s feet.
The arrogant girl looked embarrassed. Not kneeling would make her look insincere. But kneeling to Shen Yuru would be a massive loss of face.
The other two girls didn’t care about face; terrified of being dragged down with her, they grabbed her sleeves and forced her down. The arrogant girl lost her balance and fell flat on her face, her mouth landing perfectly on the toe of Shen Yuru’s shoe.
Han Shuangshuang swallowed hard. Truly, you shouldn’t be too arrogant, or the ending is just awkward, humiliating, and tragic.
A cold sneer curled the corner of Shen Yuru’s mouth. She withdrew her shoe with a look of disgust and turned to leave. Han Shuangshuang immediately followed.
[System: Friendly Reminder: Shen Yuru’s Blackening Value decreased by 2%. Current Blackening Value: 97%.]
Han Shuangshuang dutifully took the damp cardboard boxes from Shen Yuru’s hands.
Shen Yuru coughed softly.
“Sister Shen, you’re not feeling well. Let me carry these for you. Have you found a place outside? Are you moving out now?”
Shen Yuru shook her head. “It’s not fully ready yet; it’s not livable for now. However, they will likely pack their own things now. I’ll stay in the dorm for a few days.”
Han Shuangshuang’s puppy eyes widened in shock. “Aren’t you afraid they’ll retaliate?”
Shen Yuru didn’t answer the question. “Thank you for today. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been resolved so easily. I plan to throw the boxes away in a bit; just help me tidy up the items inside.”
[System: Since the supporting character in the book is brainless, the Host’s behavior cannot be too out-of-character. To maintain the persona, please follow Shen Yuru’s lead and ask for a ‘favor’ in return for helping her.]
[Option 1: Ask for Shen Yuru’s personal clothing to create a ‘perverted secret admirer’ persona, making your sudden help today seem less abrupt.]
[Option 2: Ask for the ‘wisdom in her brain’ to create a ‘perverted scumbag who covets the top student’s grades’ persona, dispelling her suspicions about your sudden closeness.]
Han Shuangshuang watched as Shen Yuru took back a box. Her hands clenched into fists. She gritted her teeth, forcing a smile to keep her face from crumbling.
The system even admits these ‘favors’ are perverted! And it was so “thoughtful”—giving her a choice between one kind of pervert or another.
Shen Yuru’s phoenix eyes curved slightly, revealing a rare, soft smile.
Cold sweat broke out on Han Shuangshuang’s forehead. Standing before her was the future arch-villain whose blackening level had just dropped to 97%. She had worked her heart out just to lower it by 3%. If she did this, the value might skyrocket and she’d be killed on the spot!
[System: Host, if one isn’t a pervert, one is a cannon fodder in vain.]
Wow! That’s like being stuck between a rock and a hard place—either way, I’m dead!
