After Marrying the Cold and Elegant Beauty, I Fell in Love (GL) - Chapter 5
[System: Please make your choice immediately.]
I’m just saying, do I really have to do this to prove I’m a “vicious” supporting character? Can’t I just be a normal cannon fodder?
[System: If the Host were normal, how would you get “foddered”? Only the abnormal get turned into cannon fodder.]
That actually made a bit of sense. She couldn’t even argue.
After all that busywork, the afternoon was nearly gone. Shen Yuru had already discarded the wet cardboard and taken out the items inside.
“Classmate Han, aren’t you going to class? Freshman courses should be quite busy. Please don’t let me delay your studies.”
Han Shuangshuang scratched her head sheepishly. Even her high ponytail seemed to droop with awkwardness.
In the original plot, the host failed ten out of twelve courses in her first semester. Going to class or not made zero difference to her now. But she had no excuse to keep lingering, and she still had to deliver that perverted line before she left.
Han Shuangshuang’s mouth twitched. “If Sister Shen is really grateful, could you grant me one request?”
Shen Yuru tilted her head slightly in confusion, but eventually gave a hesitant nod. “If there is something I can help with, Classmate Han, just say it. I will do my best.”
Shen Yuru’s open and honest demeanor made Han Shuangshuang even more embarrassed to speak. Would this really not increase the villain’s Blackening Value? One slip-up and she’d be in the abyss.
“Actually, it’s nothing much… I just noticed that your clothes in the dorm have been sitting there for a while and look a bit old. Why don’t I take them and wash them for you?”
A faint smile touched Shen Yuru’s pale face. “How could I trouble you with that? I can do it myself.”
“Isn’t that too distant, Sister Shen? I promised my mother I’d take good care of you. Your heart isn’t good; you shouldn’t be doing tiring chores that strain it.”
Han Shuangshuang tried to pack as much sincerity as possible into her “puppy eyes.”
[System: Friendly Reminder: The Host must use the system’s original wording or convey the exact meaning required, otherwise the task will not be marked as a success.]
The smile on Han Shuangshuang’s face froze, but she forced her teeth into a wide grin. “Since Sister Shen said that, I won’t hide it anymore. You know I’m not good at studying and have no real skills. My father paid to get me into this school just so I could find you and fulfill my mother’s dying wish. Today I finally found you and protected you. I… I hope to have a piece of your personal clothing to burn at my mother’s grave. I want her to know I’ve grown up and finally fulfilled my promise.”
Han Shuangshuang practically said it with her eyes squeezed shut. She spoke at light-speed, praying silently that the original character’s mother wouldn’t haunt her dreams for this.
She had a habit since childhood: she couldn’t look people in the eye when she lied. She stared at the floor for a long time, and when she finally looked up, she found Shen Yuru watching her with those cool phoenix eyes, expressionless.
For the first time, she knew what a “cardiac arrest” felt like.
“The clothes in the dorm have been there too long,” Shen Yuru said softly. “My other clothes are at the house I found outside, but I have no way to get them for Classmate Han right now.”
The rejection was clear.
[System: Congratulations, Host, on completing the task. Reward: 200 Yuan.]
Han Shuangshuang felt like she had a piece of dry bread stuck in her throat—she couldn’t swallow it or spit it out. It was miserable.
Wait, System—the task only required me to ask, not to actually get it?
Before transmigrating, she was just a poor student, so the 200 Yuan reward actually made her quite happy. She could finally splurge on hotpot or BBQ.
She bit the bullet and replied to Shen Yuru, “If it’s a burden, forget it! I’ll head to class now. If you ever need help, Sister Shen, you must call me.”
With that, she greased her soles and vanished in an instant.
The university campus was peaceful. Students here didn’t have many worries; they didn’t need to think about making money. If they ran out, they just asked their parents.
Han Shuangshuang checked her phone and saw her account balance was 225 Yuan. She let out a long sigh. Different people, same fate.
The original host wasn’t liked at home. Everything was controlled by her stepmother—the mistress who had climbed her way up. Why would such a woman spend money on the original wife’s child? She’d give a little money in front of the father to save face, but otherwise ignored her completely. The father would remind her once every six months, and the stepmother would send money once every six months.
Han Shuangshuang didn’t dwell on it too much. Before the book, she had worked part-time to pay her own tuition and living expenses. She didn’t know what it felt like to be raised by loving parents. Like a frog at the bottom of a well, if you’ve never seen the light, you don’t know the darkness is bitter.
Still, she felt a twinge of envy looking at the vibrant, smiling people on campus. The skateboard club, the rollerblading club—she had wanted to join those before, but the equipment was too expensive.
As she sat on a bench dazing off, someone tapped her shoulder. “What are you doing here? Skipping class and not even going back to sleep? That’s rare.”
A crisp female voice rang out. Han Shuangshuang turned to see a familiar face—her dorm mate, Yan Huan. In the book, the host had three roommates, but only this one was actually on good terms with her.
“I heard you called Shen Yuru out. You didn’t actually listen to that guy Long and push her in the water, did you? We can’t do stuff like that.” Yan Huan sat down beside her. “Holy crap, the forum posts have been updated! Did you change your personality today? Not only were you not brainwashed, but you pushed that annoying Wang Yahong into the water and went to Shen Yuru’s dorm to back her up?”
Han Shuangshuang felt physically and mentally exhausted. After saying that perverted line earlier, she just wanted to crawl into a hole and die. At least Shen Yuru’s Blackening Value hadn’t increased.
“Damn, those three girls are so shameless,” Yan Huan continued. “Even with the surveillance footage out, they’re still twisting the truth and badmouthing you. Rumors are spreading so fast, yet Shen Yuru hasn’t come out to say a word for you. What an ungrateful wolf.”
Hearing this, Han Shuangshuang immediately covered Yan Huan’s mouth, looking around cautiously. “Don’t say things like that! It’ll get your head chopped off!”
Yan Huan swatted her hand away. “Covering my mouth is one thing, but why my nose too? You trying to kill your own ‘father’?”
Han Shuangshuang dazed for a moment at their easy rapport. The book didn’t say much about the side characters, mostly just how annoying the host was. Did such a person really have such a good friend? She couldn’t see a hint of disdain in Yan Huan’s eyes.
“Why so obedient today? Did that stepmother of yours gross you out again? Come on, ‘Lord Yan’ is taking you out for BBQ. My treat.”
The two of them spent the whole afternoon out and didn’t return until dusk. Yan Huan had a bit to drink and, having zero tolerance, started acting drunk the moment they got near campus, hugging Han Shuangshuang’s neck and singing.
By the time they reached the school gates, it was nearly 8:00 PM—almost curfew. The walk had sobered Yan Huan up a bit. The campus was still busy, with insects swarming under the streetlights.
To avoid a scene, Han Shuangshuang dragged the tipsy Yan Huan down a quieter, darker path. Suddenly, a dark shadow came sprinting toward them—on all fours.
Behind it, a guy was chasing and shouting something. The campus lights were spaced far apart; after a bright stretch, they hit a pitch-black section where a lamp was broken.
Han Shuangshuang finally saw it: a yellow dog flying toward them. It seemed to have something in its mouth. She wasn’t usually curious, but she felt like she had a “bad luck” curse—nothing good ever happened to her.
In the distance, she heard a group of girls chasing the dog, screaming about “catching the pervert.”
Yan Huan clutched her stomach. “Crap, the alcohol is hitting me. I need a trash can. Go back to the dorm first.” She pushed Han Shuangshuang away and ran off.
Once Yan Huan left, the guy chasing the dog vanished too. Han Shuangshuang felt something catch on her foot. When she walked under the next functioning streetlight, a crowd of girls suddenly surrounded her.
She looked down. Hooked onto her shoe was… a pair of panties.
“Caught red-handed! We found the pervert! Stealing girls’ underwear—I can’t believe the culprit is a girl!”
“Whose are these? Come claim them! We finally caught the thief!”
“I think they belong to a Senior? We’ve been chasing this person all night!”
As the crowd grew, Shen Yuru slowly stepped out from the mass of people. She looked at Han Shuangshuang with those calm phoenix eyes. Her thin lips parted, and she said without a trace of emotion:
“They’re mine.”
Han Shuangshuang: “…”
If I say the dog stole them, would she believe me?
