After Rebirth, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessive - Chapter 101
“Miss, Pei Lu has gone mad.” The voice on the phone rang clearly in An Yu and Lin Duxi’s ears, leaving both momentarily stunned.
“Half an hour ago, Pei Lu suddenly started talking to himself, then began smashing things in a frenzy. It took several people to restrain him. His mental state was already unstable by then.”
The person on the other end recounted the entire incident, though even they couldn’t understand why Pei Lu had lost his mind.
Lin Duxi and An Yu exchanged glances, seeing the same speculation reflected in each other’s eyes.
Lin Duxi spoke first. “I understand.”
After hanging up, An Yu looked at Lin Duxi, her calm heart suddenly aching with bitterness.
Given Pei Lu’s personality, the reason for his madness was likely a desperate struggle with the system over energy-ending in mutual destruction. Pei Lu no longer had enough energy to sustain the system, forcing it to cling to his mind for survival.
At this thought, An Yu’s heartbeat pounded violently in her ears. Her entire being was consumed by the person before her-finally, there were no more obstacles between them.
Lin Duxi met her gaze, her usually cool eyes now shimmering with fragmented light, emotions spilling over.
But before An Yu could bask in the moment for long, Lin Duxi wiped the dampness from the corners of her eyes and then grabbed her arm.
“Let’s go see a doctor.”
An Yu blinked. “But isn’t everything already fine?”
Lin Duxi shook her head stubbornly. “No, we need a full check-up first.” Just like before, she refused to compromise.
An Yu lowered her head with a soft smile. Her Lin Duxi was still the same-always worrying about her.
Lin Duxi dragged An Yu through multiple rounds of hospital examinations, but the final results showed nothing wrong-just exhaustion from staying up too late.
Relieved, An Yu turned to Lin Duxi, ready to reassure her, only to find her silently staring at the medical report, her eyes glistening, the tips of her ears tinged with an unnatural red.
An Yu froze, then remembered the doctor’s mention of “staying up late.” Instantly, her face burned with embarrassment, and she awkwardly rubbed her nose.
A glance out the corridor window revealed that night had fallen-they had spent several hours at the hospital.
“It’s already so late,” An Yu murmured.
Lin Duxi snapped out of her thoughts and noticed the time.
“Let’s go eat.” An Yu took her hand, leading her downstairs without protest.
The restaurant she had originally wanted to visit with Lin Duxi was no longer an option, so they settled for a lively little diner near the hospital. The food was delicious, reminding them of the small eatery they had visited in the park that day.
Finally, An Yu drove Lin Duxi to the airport.
Just as they had gone public with their relationship, they were about to become a long-distance couple. An Yu could only swallow the ache of separation.
The neon lights of the night flickered in their eyes, making them shimmer even more.
An Yu parked near the airport. With some time before Lin Duxi’s flight, soft, nameless music filled the car. Holding hands, they savored these last moments together.
No one knew who initiated it first, but the atmosphere in the car grew intimate, the music flowing like water, sending shivers through their hearts. The confined space grew warmer, the sound of fabric rustling barely audible beneath the melody.
Lin Duxi turned away, resting her head on An Yu’s shoulder as she caught her breath, her cheeks flushed. An Yu panted lightly as well, neither willing to let go first. They clung to each other, sharing warmth in silence.
Time passed quickly after that. Lin Duxi was busy promoting her next film, while An Yu was swamped with filming, often too busy to catch her breath. Their only moments of connection were late-night phone calls, lulling each other to sleep with their voices.
It was during this time that An Yu learned Lin Duxi had been seeing a psychologist. Though she had suspected it, hearing it directly from Lin Duxi still felt like something inside her had shattered.
Especially when Lin Duxi mentioned it so casually, as if reporting her schedule for the next day. An Yu’s chest grew heavy.
Tears welled up, prompting Lin Duxi to tease her. But when An Yu wiped her eyes and looked up, she saw unmistakable sorrow in Lin Duxi’s gaze.
Her heart clenched, the pain returning full force. She barely managed to hold herself together before ending the call.
An Yu wanted to see her immediately, but Lin Duxi stopped her.
Over the next few days, Lin Duxi reassured her until An Yu’s anxiety gradually eased. She even promised to bring An Yu along to her next session, finally putting An Yu’s mind at ease.
Yet the longing only grew stronger.
After wrapping up her final scene, An Yu stood amidst the crowd for the group photo, bouquet in hand, then rushed home without delay.
The night before, she had told Lin Duxi about the wrap-up, and the joy in Lin Duxi’s voice still sent tremors through her heart.
Counting the days, it had been far too long since they last saw each other. Video calls were no substitute for being together. Now, all she could think about was seeing Lin Duxi again. Even when fans at the airport teased her about rushing to her girlfriend, she only laughed and admitted it, earning playful scoffs.
Lin Duxi had work in the afternoon and couldn’t pick her up, so An Yu took the car she had sent home.
Passing a flower shop, the car slowed to a stop. When it started again, An Yu held a lush bouquet of roses.
Returning home at last, she tossed her luggage into her room and immediately left, using her fingerprint to unlock Lin Duxi’s apartment. She placed the flowers on the table before busying herself with other things.
This was the scene that greeted Lin Duxi when she returned-An Yu in loungewear, setting dishes on the table.
Beside her, the vibrant roses stood proudly, dewdrops glistening under the light, much like the person beside them. Without doing anything, An Yu had already etched herself deeply into Lin Duxi’s heart-her only light in the darkness.
“You’re back,” the person she yearned for said softly, offering her the flowers.
“Do you like them?”
Lin Duxi spared the bouquet a glance. “They’re beautiful.” But the one before her was even more so.
An Yu smiled. “I saw them on the way and thought you’d love them.”
Lin Duxi took the flowers, her eyes darkening with emotion. “I do. We can use them for a bath tonight.”
An Yu: “Huh?”
Online discussions about their relationship had gradually died down after the initial frenzy, as new trends always replaced old ones.
But the chatter in their CP fan community showed no signs of stopping.
A skilled fan had somehow compiled data from publicly available sources and their own accounts, uncovering a massive hidden gem!
[Look what I found! Lin Duxi and An Yu’s graduation photos!]
[What? They went to the same high school?!]
[Not just that-they were in the same class! Let me show you the proof. I was reviewing old crumbs and felt they must’ve known each other for a long time. After checking their universities and finding they attended different ones, and aside from Frostlit Night , they had no prior collaborations, I recalled the high school mentioned during Lin Duxi’s scandal. Digging through the school’s official archives, I found a six-year-old video from their anniversary celebration-at 1:37, there’s a photo of them together! (image.jpg)]
The screenshot was blurry due to its age, but the two girls in blue-and-white uniforms were unmistakable.
Their oversized school uniforms draped over slender frames, long hair swaying in the wind-though static, the image seemed alive with motion.
Lin Duxi and An Yu were holding red celebration stickers, preparing to place them on the school gate. For some reason, their eyes met, and they couldn’t help but smile. The moment was so perfect that the camera captured it, with two small lines of text in the corner:
Class 2-3: An Yu, Lin Duxi.
[AHHHH CLASSMATES! THE FORESHADOWING WAS THERE ALL ALONG!]
[The way they’re looking at each other-so suspicious!]
[The school did well, dropping hints early.]
[They’re so beautiful even back then! The vibes are immaculate!]
[If they knew each other so early, why did they lose contact later?]
[Reply: Maybe they were secretly dating. Even if they had issues, they’ve worked it out now. Our job is to cheer them on and feast on the sugar!]
The hype around An Yu and Lin Duxi only grew, until the hashtag #AnYuLinDuxiChildhoodSweethearts quietly climbed the trending list.
The comments overflowed with shock and blessings.
An Yu and Lin Duxi remained oblivious. In a room fragrant with roses, warmth blossomed between them, the rich scent permeating the air, sending shivers down their spines.
Under the moonlight, silvery strands glimmered, intertwining with rose petals as if their very beings were steeped in the fragrance.
Lin Duxi nestled into An Yu’s arms, finding a comfortable spot to sleep, a light sheen of sweat on her nose, the lingering scent still faintly present.
An Yu held her close, listening as her breathing steadied, then quietly got out of bed.
When she had returned earlier, she had noticed a bottle of pills in Lin Duxi’s room-the same one she had seen long ago during her first visit to Lin Duxi’s home. Back then, she had assumed they were just ordinary painkillers.
Her heart twisted, an indescribable ache spreading through her chest, so sharp it made her want to cry.
She went to the living room and gulped down several glasses of water before finally calming the storm inside.
When she returned to bed, the woman beside her suddenly wrapped her arms around her, stroking her back soothingly.
An Yu’s breath hitched, freezing for a split second before pulling Lin Duxi closer, her eyes reddening at the edges.
