After Rebirth, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessive - Chapter 102
An Yu had rushed back to see Lin Duxi right after wrapping up filming, briefly trending online. While netizens were busy joking about it, only An Yu knew there was another reason besides her eagerness to see Lin Duxi.
The next day was Lin Duxi’s follow-up appointment.
Ever since Lin Duxi told An Yu about the psychologist, An Yu had been unable to stop worrying. This time, she was determined to accompany Lin Duxi.
Faced with An Yu’s subtle yet persistent attentiveness since morning, Lin Duxi couldn’t possibly ignore it. A mischievous thought crossed her mind, and she deliberately teased her.
When An Yu “accidentally” slipped her arm around Lin Duxi’s for the fifth time, Lin Duxi could no longer suppress the sweetness welling up in her heart. She tilted her head and asked,
“Ah Yu, do you want to come to the hospital with me?”
An Yu froze, then lowered her gaze. A moment later, she looked up again, her eyes filled with cautious hesitation, making Lin Duxi’s heart soften instantly.
“You can come,” Lin Duxi said.
An Yu’s eyes immediately lit up with a faint glow. She had been afraid Lin Duxi might refuse, not realizing that Lin Duxi had told her about the appointment precisely because she wanted her company.
Lin Duxi smiled, swallowing back the words she had been about to say.
Because of this little exchange, Lin Duxi’s mood had already lightened considerably. The usually dull and lifeless journey to the hospital became warm and comforting with An Yu by her side.
Stopping at a red light, she instinctively turned to look at An Yu in the passenger seat, her gaze tender.
An Yu was intently studying the shops outside the window. This area was quite far from their home, so she rarely came here. Yet, something about these shops felt vaguely familiar, as if she had seen them before.
She was so absorbed that she didn’t notice the person beside her staring at her profile. Lin Duxi frowned slightly. “What are you looking at?”
An Yu: “I think I’ve been here before.”
Lin Duxi raised an eyebrow, following her gaze to the shops lining the street. “Ah Yu’s memory is impressive.”
An Yu turned to her. “You know?”
The light turned green. Lin Duxi focused back on the road. “You’ll understand when we get there.”
It wasn’t until Lin Duxi parked in the hospital garage that An Yu remembered-she had spotted a café earlier.
“The coffee shop where we met isn’t far from this hospital.” She recalled arranging to meet Shi Yu there, where she had encountered Lin Duxi. The pieces quickly fell into place.
“So that time you said you had something to do, you were coming here for your appointment,” An Yu murmured.
Lin Duxi closed the car door. “I told you Ah Yu was clever.”
An Yu looked down, somewhat dazed. “If I were really clever, I would’ve realized it back then.”
Lin Duxi: “Hmm?”
An Yu took her hand. “Never mind. Your appointment time is coming up-let’s go.”
What happened in the past couldn’t be changed. Regret was pointless. What mattered was now, An Yu thought.
As they walked out of the garage, An Yu couldn’t help but chuckle at the memory of that day at the café.
“When I went to meet Shi Yu that time, she told me she’d run into someone she liked nearby but was too shy to approach them.”
Lin Duxi: “And then?”
An Yu continued, “I don’t know the details, but later I found out the person she liked was a doctor. They met again at the welfare institute and are probably together now.”
Lin Duxi listened with a faint smile, but when An Yu reached the second half, something felt off. By then, they had already climbed the stairs and were nearing the counseling office. “Did Shi Yu mention the doctor’s name?”
An Yu sensed the shift in her tone and thought it couldn’t possibly be such a coincidence. “Just that her surname was Jiang.”
Lin Duxi paused, then slowly said, “This psychologist’s surname is also Jiang.”
Before either could react, the door to the counseling office creaked open, and Jiang Yu and Shi Yu appeared before them.
Eight eyes met. The hallway fell into a dead silence, thick with awkwardness.
Jiang Yu and Lin Duxi were the first to recover. Jiang Yu greeted the two with a nod and extended her hand.
“Miss Lin, you’re here,” she said.
Lin Duxi inclined her head. “Dr. Jiang.”
An Yu snapped out of it and shook her hand. “Hello, Dr. Jiang.”
Jiang Yu studied An Yu intently, her gaze unsettling. An Yu met her eyes.
“Miss An, it’s a pleasure to meet you,” Jiang Yu said, glancing at the time. “The appointment is about to start. Miss Lin, please rest for a moment, and we’ll begin shortly.”
Then she turned to Shi Yu, who was still staring at them in shock, and asked, puzzled,
“You know each other?”
Shi Yu snapped back to reality. “Yeah, we were high school classmates.” Her eyes flicked to An Yu and Lin Duxi, then drifted down to their tightly clasped hands before quickly looking away.
Tsk tsk. These two.
In the end, An Yu accompanied Lin Duxi into the counseling room. Jiang Yu put on a pair of glasses and sat across from them, holding a record sheet.
Lin Duxi began to recount her recent experiences slowly. Throughout, An Yu held her hand, sensing her tension when discussing certain matters. An Yu’s heart ached as if she were experiencing those things herself.
Fortunately, the final results were positive. An Yu even breathed a bigger sigh of relief than Lin Duxi.
At the end, Jiang Yu wanted to speak with Lin Duxi alone. Knowing that Lin Duxi was gradually recovering, An Yu assumed it was nothing serious and stepped out, closing the door behind her.
Jiang Yu and Lin Duxi watched An Yu leave before turning back to each other.
Jiang Yu: “After all these years, this is the first time I’ve seen ‘A’Yu.'” She had always known how important An Yu was to Lin Duxi, but seeing that importance materialize on the report still shocked her.
Lin Duxi couldn’t help but smile. “Yes, A’Yu.”
“Her presence truly serves as a major factor in your recovery,” Jiang Yu remarked, glancing at the sheet in her hand.
Lin Duxi lowered her eyes, lips curving. Of course, she knew.
Her illness had stemmed from An Yu, and the only cure could be An Yu as well. Fortunately, An Yu was more than willing.
After closing the door, An Yu saw Shi Yu sitting on a bench in the hallway.
The moment Shi Yu spotted her, she couldn’t resist teasing, “Here with your girlfriend?”
An Yu smiled and sat beside her. “How did you know?”
Shi Yu: “…Do you really think your high-profile relationship announcement with Lin Duxi on Weibo went unnoticed?”
An Yu: “Did it?”
Shi Yu was speechless. What kind of person was this, flaunting their relationship right to her face?
“Are you and Dr. Jiang together now?” An Yu suddenly asked.
Shi Yu froze, then blushed slightly. “Yeah, last time she came to the bar to find me, we cleared things up and got together.”
She glanced at An Yu, expecting some words of blessing, but instead, An Yu smiled slowly and said,
“Mm, Lin Duxi and I are together too.”
Shi Yu: “…”
This conversation was impossible.
Just then, the counseling room door opened, and An Yu’s attention immediately shifted to Lin Duxi, sparing her from Shi Yu’s eye-rolling.
“Finished?” An Yu stood and walked over to her.
“Yeah, let’s go. I’m hungry.” Lin Duxi naturally took her hand.
Shi Yu chose to close her eyes.
“Miss Lin’s psychological state is recovering well. I hope it’ll be even better at the next check-up,” Jiang Yu said as she stepped out, offering her sincere wishes.
The two bid farewell to Jiang Yu and Shi Yu before leaving.
They had been there for a while, and lunchtime had already passed. Deciding to buy groceries and cook at home, they headed out.
“What were you two talking about earlier?” Lin Duxi suddenly asked.
An Yu, focused on driving, replied, “Just asked if she and Dr. Jiang were together, things like that.”
Lin Duxi narrowed her eyes slightly. “Oh, really?” She then leaned back in her seat, exhausted from the hours of counseling, needing rest.
An Yu detected a faint hint of jealousy in her tone and couldn’t help but laugh.
“I also told her that we’re together too,” she said, her eyes brimming with amusement.
Lin Duxi opened her eyes and saw An Yu’s smiling profile. The light traced her features, accentuating her fair skin, her long hair cascading lazily, adding a touch of softness-yet it sent waves crashing through Lin Duxi’s heart.
For a moment, she thought, if this could last forever, it wouldn’t be so hard to accept.
An Yu’s contract had less than two months left. Her popularity had surged recently, elevating her status. The company, aware of her intentions, naturally sought to squeeze every last bit of value from her.
Shortly after wrapping up filming, the company piled on endorsements and variety show appearances. Though Ning Xuan managed to block some of the worst offers, An Yu was still overwhelmed, with no time to spare for anything else.
Lin Duxi’s heart ached watching her.
Eventually, An Yu caught a cold, but the company insisted she recover quickly and return to work. Lin Duxi strongly disagreed, but An Yu was bound by her contract and had no choice.
Sitting by An Yu’s bedside, Lin Duxi gazed at her fever-flushed cheeks, her chest heavy as if something were pressing down, suffocating her.
Then she remembered a variety show that had approached them not long ago-a slow-paced, slice-of-life program. They had declined initially because Lin Duxi had a business trip, but now that the offer had come again, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for An Yu to rest.
Once An Yu’s cold improved slightly, Lin Duxi handed her the show’s script.
An Yu skimmed through it. “Isn’t this the one we turned down last time?”
Lin Duxi bent down, offering her a glass of water. An Yu’s parched lips eagerly drank the warm liquid. After finishing half the glass, Lix Duxi explained,
“We didn’t have time last time, but we do now. Let’s do this together.” Her eyes sparkled with sincerity.
Under that earnest gaze, An Yu couldn’t refuse. Besides, the phrase “together with Lin Duxi” was too enticing.
“Okay, but my company might not agree,” An Yu said, her momentary excitement dampening.
Lin Duxi sat beside her, gently wiping the sweat from her forehead, her voice tender. “Silly A’Yu, this is a long-running, reputable show. Your company won’t object.”
The distance between them closed, their breaths mingling, warm against their skin, raising the temperature in the room.
Noses brushed, breaths tangled.
An Yu, remembering she was still sick, barely managed to pull herself out of the intoxicating warmth in Lin Duxi’s eyes. She pushed lightly against Lin Duxi, shaking her dazed head.
“No, I’ll get you sick.”
Lin Duxi’s eyes reddened, teetering on the edge of emotional collapse. She suddenly pulled An Yu into a tight embrace.
“I wish you would. Then I’d at least share your pain,” she murmured, voice thick with grievance.
