After Rebirth, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessive - Chapter 45
An Yu’s forehead was damp with cold sweat. The pain in her shoulder was excruciating-so intense that she wondered if Lin Duxi was some kind of vampire, here to drain her blood.
Her heart itched with a strange, prickling sensation. The words Lin Duxi had whispered in her ear still burned in her chest, leaving her emotions in disarray. For now, An Yu could only push aside the chaos in her mind and endure as Lin Duxi bit down on her shoulder, clinging to her while she carried her forward.
Lin Duxi’s grip was fierce. Even through the fabric of her clothes, An Yu could feel the sharp pain. Fortunately, it didn’t last long-Lin Duxi soon lost strength and released her. The previously throbbing skin was suddenly enveloped in warmth, making An Yu freeze momentarily.
Depleted of energy, Lin Duxi was like a helpless kitten, unresisting but trembling all over. Even though they were no longer running, sweat continued to bead on her forehead, soaking An Yu as well. Holding Lin Duxi tightly, An Yu rushed toward the infirmary. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glint of light reflecting off a student’s glasses but paid it no mind.
A few people nearby hesitated, as if wanting to help, but upon seeing the two, they silently withdrew their hands. And so, An Yu carried Lin Duxi all the way to the infirmary by herself.
After collapsing onto the infirmary bed and receiving an injection, Lin Duxi barely managed to claw her way out of her muddled consciousness. Struggling to open her eyes, she found the small infirmary empty.
An Yu’s gaze was fixed on the steady drip of the IV tube, her expression blank as she reached over and pulled out the needle. The medical tape on the back of her hand was stained red with blood. She sat up, dizziness washing over her.
“Hey, where are you going?” The school doctor, who had just pulled back the curtain, caught sight of a figure darting past and quickly set down what she was holding to drag the girl back.
Lin Duxi was too weak to resist and was easily pulled back.
“What are you doing? The IV isn’t finished yet, and you’re already trying to leave? Do you think you’re invincible?” The school doctor grabbed a new IV set and reinserted the needle.
“Stop running around. Stay here and finish this bag before you go,” she said sternly.
Lin Duxi sat stiffly on the bed, her body tense. The school doctor sensed something was off and suddenly recalled how anxiously An Yu had helped her in earlier. A suspicion formed in her mind.
“That girl went to the cafeteria to get you some food. Just stay here and wait,” the school doctor said, idly scrolling through her phone. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the rigid figure slowly relax.
Before long, An Yu returned with a carefully selected bowl of congee-the kind her family’s nanny would make for her during her period. She had begged the cafeteria auntie for a long time before she agreed to prepare it. When she pulled back the curtain, her eyes met Lin Duxi’s.
“You’re awake,” An Yu said, suddenly restrained, her earlier urgency gone. She walked over slowly, only to realize that Lin Duxi had been staring at her left shoulder the entire time.
An Yu didn’t even need to look-her left shoulder bore the mark of Lin Duxi’s teeth, nearly breaking the skin. The school doctor had said the bite mark wouldn’t fade for at least ten days to half a month.
An Yu’s breath hitched. The more she thought about it, the more the skin that had been roughly grazed began to tingle with a numb, itchy pain.
She roughly tossed the bag she was holding, then gently set it down on the nightstand beside Lin Duxi.
“Congee,” she said irritably. Raising her arm seemed to tug at the bite mark again, drawing her attention back to it.
Lin Duxi reached for the bag, using one hand to twist open the lid with effort. The newly closed needle wound began to bleed again, staining the cotton swab. An Yu’s temple throbbed.
Lin Duxi, however, seemed in high spirits. Looking at the full bowl of congee, she smiled and asked, “Is this for me? I don’t think the cafeteria usually serves this.”
Had running three kilometers addled Lin Duxi’s brain? How could she still smile while in so much pain? An Yu averted her gaze. “You got lucky. The cafeteria auntie wanted to treat herself.”
Lin Duxi didn’t respond. She picked up the spoon from the bag and brought a scoop to her mouth.
The congee was still steaming. When An Yu had carried it over, the heat from the cup had nearly scalded her hand. Unable to hold back, she snatched the spoon from Lin Duxi’s grip.
“You’ll burn yourself,” she snapped, tossing the spoon back into the cup. Then she grabbed Lin Duxi’s hand, pressing a cotton swab to stop the bleeding while roughly rubbing her skin, venting her frustration.
You knew your period would make you hurt like this, so why did you force yourself to run three kilometers? And even if you did, why did you have to sprint like that? Did you really need to come in first?
“Is first place that important?!” She scrubbed at Lin Duxi’s hand fiercely, turning the already pale skin red before finally letting go.
Lin Duxi let her do as she pleased, silently watching her. Only when An Yu had finally vented her anger did she speak, her voice hoarse from lack of water.
“Yes. It’s important.”
Because only by coming in first would they notice me-notice how tightly I held onto you.
Then they would know: you’re mine.
An Yu belongs to Lin Duxi.
An Yu nearly choked on her own breath. She lowered her head and began stirring the congee. Lin Duxi always gets first place in exams, and now she has to win first in sports too? How boring.
So boring! she screamed internally, trying to dispel the inexplicable anger rising in her chest-anger mixed with a sour ache she didn’t even realize was there.
Lin Duxi studied her profile, her eyes tracing the smooth curve of An Yu’s fair skin, from her cheeks down to her neck, before settling on the red, swollen bite mark.
It was like branding An Yu with her own mark, claiming her as her possession, drenching her in her scent.
It’s still swollen after all this time… It must hurt a lot, Lin Duxi thought, thrilled.
She stared at the bite mark without a shred of guilt.
“Teacher Lin.” A timid female voice pulled Lin Duxi out of her memories. She turned to see Xie An’an and nodded politely with a faint smile.
“The director just called me over to explain the arrangements. For this afternoon’s camping trip, each of us three girls will have our own tent. They want us to go pick out the ones we like and… set them up,” Xie An’an said, her voice growing quieter as she realized she was stating the obvious.
She had only spoken up because she noticed Lin Duxi lost in thought, staring into the distance with a nostalgic expression-and because the live audience had picked up on it.
Lin Duxi simply smiled. “Got it. I’ll head over soon,” she replied succinctly.
Xie An’an quickly scurried away, leaving the online viewers laughing in the comments.
Lin Duxi tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, her fair fingers tapping lightly against the table, exuding an effortless charm.
Ah Yu in my memories was always so cute-quick to anger but easily coaxed back, wagging her tail and nuzzling up to me. Back then, I’d stroke her fur until she melted into my touch.
But now, the little puppy is angry and won’t talk to me. It took so much effort just to grab her paw. She bares her teeth and raises her claws, but when it comes down to it, she can’t bring herself to strike-letting me feel the soft pads underneath.
Lin Duxi loved it.
And yet, she hated it.
She wanted An Yu to keep treating her this uniquely, but she couldn’t stand their relationship staying stuck at this stage. Lin Duxi sighed softly.
It’s all my fault. That’s why An Yu doesn’t want to get close to me.
A sudden warmth approached. Lin Duxi instinctively looked up to see An Yu standing beside her, holding painkillers and a heating pad.
Lin Duxi lowered her head, a part of her heart crumbling.
My Ah Yu hasn’t changed at all.
An Yu pondered for a moment. The mission that stupid system had assigned her was already complete. From here on out, she could do as she pleased. After some thought, she still felt uneasy about Lin Duxi’s condition-especially after remembering what happened in high school and yesterday. Even if she tried not to think about it, the memories forced their way into her mind.
“Medicine and a heating pad. Take them,” she said, placing them on the table as if it were nothing.
“Did Ah Yu buy these especially for me?” Lin Duxi didn’t reach for them. Instead, she sat close, gazing at An Yu intently, demanding an answer.
An Yu: “No. Xia Song gave them to me.” She made up a name on the spot.
Lin Duxi chuckled softly. For this show, to maintain authenticity and let viewers fully immerse themselves in the couples’ dynamics, none of them had brought their assistants along.
“Then please thank Miss Xia for me,” she played along, picking up the items from the table.
Miss Xia.
An Yu gritted her teeth. “I will.”
Lin Duxi hummed in response, tearing open the heating pad and holding it in her palm as it warmed. Her long lashes fluttered, veiling her eyes.
“Does it still hurt?” An Yu couldn’t help but ask.
“Not anymore. My period only hurts badly on the first day. Today’s fine,” Lin Duxi replied softly.
An Yu wanted to ask if that day during the high school sports meet had also been the first day of her period. Had she known it was coming?
But seeing Lin Duxi sitting there so obediently, the words that came out instead were:
“What happened earlier on the glass walkway?” She asked casually, though her tone carried a hint of caution.
“Never mind, forget I asked.” Before Lin Duxi could answer, An Yu quickly changed the subject. “Let’s go get our tents.”
“I was just thinking about something from the past. It was a long time ago-nothing important,” Lin Duxi said, lifting her gaze, her eyes clear.
An Yu turned away. “Let’s go, then.”
She treated it as just an answer.
Lin Duxi had merely stated a fact.
But no one knew-An Yu’s hands, hanging at her sides, quietly clenched the fabric of her clothes.
This was the first time since knowing Lin Duxi that she had ever brought up their past unprompted. Even if it was just a vague remark, it was still more than the avoidance she’d shown before.
By the time they arrived at the tent selection area, the other four had already picked theirs. The tents were all the same style, just in different colors. The real reason they were being asked to choose was:
“Ladies and gentlemen, the show’s budget is tight. So, same-gender partners will share one tent. The ones we’ve picked are quite spacious-plenty of room for two.”
“What?!” Before An Yu could react, Xie An’an shouted in disbelief. She had to share a tent with An Yu? No way!
“Teacher Lin, let’s switch tents! I really like the color of yours,” she blurted out.
“According to the rules, partners from different groups can’t swap tents,” the director said firmly.
