After Rebirth, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessive - Chapter 59
An Yu’s heart tightened at Lin Duxi’s voice. She stepped forward, drawn to the furrow between Lin Duxi’s brows, and couldn’t help but call out softly.
“Lin Duxi, Lin Duxi… are you okay? Why did you drink so much?”
The person sprawled on the sofa seemed completely oblivious to her voice, lying motionless except for the faint crease in her forehead, the only sign she was still conscious.
An Yu walked over and crouched beside her. The scent of alcohol enveloped her, and she could now clearly hear Lin Duxi’s trembling murmurs.
“Don’t go… don’t leave me… please… Mom…” The last whimper dissolved into a whisper, catching in her throat before it settled heavily in An Yu’s heart.
“Ah Yu… don’t go… you’re all I have left… Ah Yu…”
Lin Duxi, drunk, slurred her words as if trapped in a deep nightmare, voicing whatever haunted her dreams. An Yu listened, her own heart clenching at the tremor in Lin Duxi’s voice.
Did today’s events trigger memories from the past? An Yu recalled the cases she had researched online, the symptoms echoing relentlessly in her mind.
If today really did dredge up old shadows, then what exactly had Lin Duxi been through before?
Suppressing her confusion, An Yu first helped Lin Duxi out of her coat, poured a glass of water, then pulled her upright and into her arms, gently pressing the cup to her lips.
“Let’s drink some water, okay?” she coaxed.
Lin Duxi, dazed, recognized the familiar, soothing voice and instinctively obeyed, parting her lips to sip slowly.
An Yu held still, patiently waiting until Lin Duxi finished, then carefully lifted her and carried her to the bedroom. Thankfully, she had been here just this morning and had a rough idea of where things were.
After settling Lin Duxi onto the bed, An Yu turned on the lamp, tucking the hair clinging to her cheeks behind her ears, revealing her pale, delicate skin. Watching Lin Duxi, still lost in a drunken haze, An Yu leaned in and whispered gently, “I’ll go draw you a bath. Rest for a bit.”
Even as she said it, she almost laughed at herself-Lin Duxi was far too drunk to hear her.
But as she stood to leave for the bathroom, she felt a tug. Looking down, she saw Lin Duxi gripping the hem of her shirt, her brows still knit, her sleep anything but peaceful.
An Yu crouched back down and took Lin Duxi’s hand. “I’ll be right back. I won’t leave, I promise.”
Perhaps reassured by An Yu’s soft voice, Lin Duxi slowly loosened her grip.
An Yu gazed at Lin Duxi’s face for a long moment. The dim glow of the bedside lamp cast a warm, muted light, illuminating the pained expression etched into Lin Duxi’s features.
Pushing aside her thoughts, An Yu hurried to prepare the bath.
The sound of running water filled the bathroom, each drop striking Lin Duxi’s ears like a hammer, intensifying the agony in her mind. She dreamed of An Yu falling from a great height, her body crashing to the ground, blood staining her clean clothes, her fair arms and face.
But Lin Duxi could do nothing-not even scream.
Her heart felt like it was splitting apart, pain radiating through her limbs until her vision blurred crimson, her pupils trembling violently. The torment in her mind multiplied until she writhed, only to be met with the sudden sensation of falling-then the sharp impact of her body hitting the floor.
Her elbow throbbed. Gritting her teeth, she forced her eyes open, the red haze fading into the familiar surroundings of her bedroom. She glanced at the bed, struggling to sit up, but the alcohol amplified the splitting pain in her head.
Still trapped between nightmare and reality, the anguish of losing An Yu in her dream felt too real-like threads winding around her heart, tightening until she couldn’t breathe.
The faint trace of An Yu’s scent lingered in the air-that cold, intoxicating perfume she loved so much.
Lin Duxi’s vision blurred as pain consumed her, her consciousness teetering on the edge of collapse.
Then, she heard the water running.
The sound of splashing droplets struck her eardrums like rain. Her heart pounded violently in her chest. She staggered to her feet, barefoot and unsteady, lurching toward the bathroom door. With trembling hands, she yanked it open.
An Yu was crouched by the tub, testing the water temperature with her fingers, her mind racing over how to handle Lin Duxi’s bath. Could she even wash herself in this state?
Lost in thought, she didn’t hear the noise from the bedroom-not until the bathroom door was flung open, a cold draft making her shiver. She turned and saw Lin Duxi standing there.
“Lin Du-”
Before she could finish, a force slammed into her, sending them both tumbling into the tub. When An Yu regained her senses, she found Lin Duxi clinging to her like a vine, her face buried in An Yu’s neck.
The water was warm, but the porcelain against An Yu’s back was icy. She frowned and pushed at Lin Duxi’s shoulders.
“Lin Duxi, what are you doing?! Get off!”
The water pushed them closer. Lin Duxi didn’t budge-if anything, her grip tightened. She tilted her head, her lips brushing An Yu’s ear.
“Ah Yu, you can’t leave me. You’re all I have. Don’t go, okay? I’ll give you anything you want.”
She wasn’t listening at all. As she spoke, she loosened her arms just enough to meet An Yu’s gaze.
The water rippled, their clothes soaked through and clinging to their bodies, outlining every curve.
Lin Duxi’s knit sweater, heavy with water, hung like chains around her, but she paid it no mind. Her eyes burned into An Yu’s, filled with a devotion so fierce it threatened to drown her.
Then she leaned in, capturing An Yu’s lips in a desperate kiss.
An Yu’s eyes widened. Instinctively, she tried to shove Lin Duxi away, but Lin Duxi pinned her wrists against the tub’s edge with surprising strength.
Trapped, An Yu could only thrash her legs, sending water splashing everywhere. Lin Duxi straddled her thighs, immobilizing her.
The kiss was frantic, as if Lin Duxi was pouring all her obsessive love into it, her lips demanding entrance. An Yu, unable to move, felt the alcohol seep into her too-anger and humiliation boiling over.
She bit down hard.
Lin Duxi flinched but didn’t pull away. Instead, she retaliated with a sharp bite of her own. An Yu gasped. The metallic tang of blood filled their mouths, wild and urgent.
When they finally broke apart, the moonlight streamed in through the window. An Yu panted, her lips numb and swollen. She glanced at Lin Duxi-her mouth still bleeding, her wet hair plastered to her face, droplets falling like tears.
An Yu almost laughed. She’d really gone for it.
Lin Duxi’s breath was ragged. Her white sweater was speckled with blood, a stark contrast. She licked her bleeding lip and smiled, her obsession laid bare beneath her damp lashes.
“Ah Yu can have anything… as long as you don’t leave me…” she murmured, leaning in again.
An Yu turned her face away, shoving at Lin Duxi’s shoulders.
“Lin Duxi, are you insane?!”
Lin Duxi only smiled wider. She took An Yu’s hands from her shoulders and pressed them to her own cheeks, nuzzling into her palms like an affectionate cat.
She was sick. Incurably so.
An Yu yanked her hands free. Lin Duxi froze, her expression blank.
“I need to change,” An Yu snapped, shaking out her wrists. She should’ve slapped herself earlier for caring. Lin Duxi clearly had no issues overpowering her-she should’ve just left her to sleep it off. Now she was the one drenched.
Lin Duxi looked up, her eyes clouded. “Ah Yu… are you leaving?”
An Yu tried to kick free, but Lin Duxi held her down.
“Yes. Let me go.” The helplessness of being trapped grated on her. If they stayed like this, who knew what else Lin Duxi might do?
Lin Duxi’s gaze drifted from An Yu’s eyes to her wrists. Then, as if burned, she grabbed An Yu’s hands and began massaging them gently.
“Did I hurt you? I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to.” She brought An Yu’s hand to her lips, kissing her wrist like it was something fragile.
The tenderness sent a shiver down An Yu’s spine. “It doesn’t hurt. Just get off.” She tried to pull away, but Lin Duxi held fast.
An Yu: “…”
Lin Duxi seemed deaf to her words. When she looked up, her eyes were brimming with tears, her disheveled state making her look pitiful.
“Mistakes deserve punishment… I know.” Her voice was soft as she stared into An Yu’s eyes, her gaze a whirlpool threatening to pull her under. She guided An Yu’s hand back into the water, disturbing its stillness.
An Yu was spellbound, sinking into that depth until a chill ran through her-the water had cooled, and the open door let in a draft that made her shiver.
Then her eyes flew wide. She wrenched free, scrambling back, her hands trembling at her sides.
“Lin Duxi, are you actually insane?!” she shouted.
Lin Duxi just bowed her head, docile, before suddenly embracing her again.
“Ah Yu… do you hate me that much? Please don’t… I’m yours. Everything about me is yours.”
All her strength spent, Lin Duxi slumped against An Yu like a puppet with cut strings, her head on An Yu’s shoulder as quiet sobs shook her.
Warm tears soaked into An Yu’s clothes. The sound of those muffled cries drained the anger from her. She lowered her gaze and didn’t push her away.
Lin Duxi’s mind was still foggy. Exhausted, she breathed in An Yu’s familiar perfume, the scent lulling her into a daze until, without realizing it, she drifted off.
Hearing her breathing even out, An Yu sighed. Moving carefully to avoid waking her, she helped Lin Duxi into pajamas, towel-dried her hair to avoid the noise of a blow-dryer, and tucked her in securely.
Only then did she realize her clothes were still soaked. By now, they were half-dry, but she still sighed in frustration, preparing to leave.
Then the figure on the bed stirred. Lin Duxi’s hand shot out, gripping her sleeve tightly.
“Ah Yu… are you leaving?”
An Yu turned, frowning slightly.
“I felt like A-Yu was about to leave, so I woke up,” Lin Duxi said softly, her voice slightly hoarse.
“A-Yu, don’t go, okay? Can you stay with me?” Lin Duxi tightened her grip on the fabric, stubbornly staring at An Yu. “I’m so scared.”
An Yu didn’t know what Lin Duxi was afraid of, but seeing the shattered look in her eyes, she ultimately softened.
How ridiculous-her lips were still swollen and aching.
An Yu wanted to go home to change her clothes, but Lin Duxi wouldn’t allow it, insisting she pick something from her wardrobe-unworn pieces. So An Yu casually chose one to change into. She didn’t plan to swap her underwear, intending to go home and change later once Lin Duxi had fallen asleep.
As An Yu walked to the other side of the bed, Lin Duxi’s bright eyes followed her. An Yu lifted the blanket but suddenly froze.
Her old coat lay quietly on the bed.
