After Rebirth, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessive - Chapter 83
An Yu turned her face away, her expression composed but inwardly cringing in embarrassment. “Did the director say when dinner is?”
“Probably in about an hour. He told us to wait for a while.” Having achieved her goal, Xie An’an didn’t continue teasing her.
“Where’s my room? I need to rest. After a whole day of flying and driving, my bones are about to fall apart,” she said.
An Yu replied, “Alright, I’ll take you there.”
The two then headed upstairs. As they passed the sofa, Yu Fei and Feng Zhinian, who had been chatting happily, were suddenly silenced by a voice thick with suppressed anger.
“An Yu, let’s talk.” Pei Lu sat on the sofa, tilting his chin up as he propped his hand to look at her.
Given the recent scandals surrounding him, the other two men had no desire to provoke him, afraid of getting entangled in trouble.
Pei Lu’s voice was abrupt, devoid of any superficial politeness, completely shattering the peace in the living room.
All eyes turned toward the hallway. Standing under everyone’s gaze, An Yu remained unfazed, her expression indifferent, as if she had long expected this.
Xie An’an had some inkling of the history between the three of them. Her eyes couldn’t help but fill with concern as she looked at An Yu.
“Xie An’an, your room is the one on the far right at the end of the hallway. I won’t go with you.” An Yu signaled for her to relax.
The two men on the sofa sensed the tension and quickly excused themselves, saying they needed to buy groceries before leaving the villa. The first floor was now empty except for the two of them.
“You orchestrated Lin Duxi’s actions,” Pei Lu stared at her, his eyes bloodshot.
He didn’t specify, but both knew what he meant.
“That position should have been mine. Lin Duxi should have been my girlfriend.”
An Yu frowned, suppressing her anger as she looked at him with disdain, as if he were an insect. “Is that all you have to say? Pei Lu, you don’t belong here. Turn right when you leave and keep walking-there’s a mental hospital that suits you better.”
She neither denied his previous accusation nor answered it. Her indifferent tone only fueled Pei Lu’s rage further.
Pei Lu sneered, “I thought you were just secretly in love with Lin Duxi. I never imagined you’d manipulate her to this extent. What good does destroying me do for you? Do you think ruining me will make Lin Duxi stay with you? Hah! An Yu, you’re wrong. Lin Duxi will be mine sooner or later.”
An Yu thought he had truly lost his mind. “Lin Duxi belongs to herself, not to anyone. Don’t project your filthy thoughts onto her.” She took a step forward, staring him down.
Pei Lu, seething with anger, raised his arm but caught sight of the cameras around the room.
His reputation had only just begun to recover. If this footage were leaked, his career would be over.
Gritting his teeth, he lowered his hand. “An Yu, don’t think I can’t deal with you. You’re the first to dare stand in my way.” He shoved the door open and stormed out.
An Yu watched his retreating figure with amusement, pouring herself a glass of water. In her mind, the system blared a warning, urging her not to overstep. An Yu cursed at it too.
“System, look at the trashy male lead you picked. He’s practically delusional. Your taste is truly questionable.”
The system ignored her complaints. After a brief pause, a chilling mechanical voice echoed:
“Ding-Host has severely violated mission regulations. According to system protocols, punishment mode will now commence.”
“Three, two, one. Punishment mode activated.”
An Yu gripped the glass, the corners of her lips curling upward.
She closed her eyes, feeling the world spin violently around her. When the sound of wind whistled in her ears, she opened her eyes again-the warm, softly lit living room was gone.
She stood on the edge of a rooftop, one step away from falling.
An Yu tried moving her limbs. This time was slightly better than the last-she could move a little, though it required immense effort.
Following the same steps as before, she opened the suitcase to check the money inside. Then, the next step was-
Suddenly, hurried footsteps sounded behind her, like a death knell. An Yu’s nerves tensed, and purely on instinct, she dodged the knife aimed at her waist.
She turned and swung, but her sluggish movements allowed the attacker to evade easily. An Yu’s heart clenched, and she couldn’t help but swear.
The assailant, shocked that An Yu had avoided the blade, instinctively kicked her.
An Yu lost her balance and fell backward. The suitcase flew from her grip, its contents scattering in the air. The sensation of weightlessness engulfed her. In her last conscious moment, she regretted her unresponsive body.
But the expected awakening didn’t come. There was no pain, only something cool and damp falling onto her, followed by the sound of raindrops hitting concrete.
With her last shred of awareness, An Yu slowly opened her eyes in the pouring rain.
The raindrops blurred her vision. All she could make out was a woman standing before her.
The woman wore black high heels that accentuated her pale skin. Her white dress trailed on the ground, mingling with the bloody rainwater. The hem was already stained, yet she seemed oblivious.
In her final moment of consciousness, An Yu trembled and whispered weakly:
“Sorry… for dirtying your dress.”
What An Yu didn’t know was that the moment her consciousness faded, the woman before her finally broke free from an invisible restraint.
The umbrella clattered to the ground as Lin Duxi dropped to her knees, cradling An Yu’s cold body. Blood gushed from the wound on An Yu’s head, and no matter how hard Lin Duxi pressed, it wouldn’t stop.
Blood soaked her clothes, stained her hands. The rain drenched her, making it impossible to tell whether her face was wet from tears or the storm.
“Ah Yu… no… Ah Yu, open your eyes and look at me, please. It’s me, Lin Duxi. Ah Yu, don’t sleep…” Her voice was hoarse from screaming An Yu’s name.
Even though she knew this was just a dream, watching An Yu die in her arms again filled her with despair, as if it were real. Her body ached uncontrollably, as if bleeding internally.
Why? Why did she have to relive this nightmare over and over? Why did she have to watch An Yu leave while being powerless to stop it? Each time pushed her closer to the brink of collapse.
Heart-wrenching agony consumed Lin Duxi, the despair thickening in the heavy rain as night deepened.
Clutching An Yu’s lifeless body, Lin Duxi desperately tried to warm her with her own body heat, but the storm rapidly sapped her strength.
Trembling, she bent down and kissed An Yu’s lifeless cheek-still futile. Driven by instinct, she held An Yu tightly, refusing to let go.
Hypothermia blurred her vision, yet her mind grew clearer. Memories long buried now surfaced, washed clean by the rain.
“Lin Duxi… Lin Duxi.” A familiar voice called her. Lin Duxi thought it was a hallucination born from her breakdown. Despairingly, she opened her eyes.
The dim room revealed nothing clearly. A small bedside lamp flickered on, casting a faint glow on An Yu’s face, her hair shimmering like silk. The person she longed for was now gazing at her with worry.
“Couldn’t sleep, or are you sick?” An Yu had heard her calling out anxiously in her sleep and woke her out of concern. She reached out to check Lin Duxi’s forehead, but before she could, her waist was seized in a tight embrace.
Lin Duxi buried her face in An Yu’s neck, breathing heavily. The overwhelming relief of having her back again washed over her. Her icy body gradually warmed, her hot breath brushing An Yu’s delicate skin, turning it pink.
An Yu froze, then understood. She hugged Lin Duxi back, gently stroking her back. “It’s okay. I’m here.”
Then she felt something cool and wet against her neck. Her heart trembled.
“Don’t leave me again,” Lin Duxi punched her shoulder, then immediately regretted using too much force and rubbed it tenderly. But then she felt she was being too weak-willed and punched her again.
An Yu: “…”
“Okay, I promise.”
An Yu had just awoken from the punishment mode. This dream was clearer than the last, with more details. The punishment had come too abruptly, and when she woke, she found herself collapsed on the living room carpet, the spilled water from the glass soaking a corner.
After waking, she rushed upstairs to check on Lin Duxi, only to hear her calling her name in distress. Worried she was having a nightmare, An Yu woke her, though her own mind was still foggy.
Lin Duxi finally loosened her grip. Her glistening eyes were slightly red, her nose tinged pink from crying, her brows slightly furrowed-she looked heartbreakingly vulnerable.
An Yu’s pulse raced. Something in her heart twinged-she adored Lin Duxi like this, broken yet with eyes only for her, unwavering and pure.
She tucked a loose strand of hair behind Lin Duxi’s ear, gently wiping away her tears, her fingers lingering on the soft skin behind her ear.
Lin Duxi nuzzled into An Yu’s palm, then looked up at her, lips temptingly red.
From their earlier embrace, the collar of Lin Duxi’s dress had slipped, revealing skin that seemed to glow under the dim light, so delicate it might bruise at the slightest touch.
Thoughts once forgotten now found fertile ground in the moonlit night, growing wildly.
“Want to go eat?” An Yu pushed aside the chaotic thoughts in her head. “They say food helps with bad moods.”
Lin Duxi frowned, her starry eyes glaring coldly. “So unromantic!”
