After Rebirth, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessive - Chapter 87
An Yu indeed caught a cold. After taking a cold shower, she should have gone to bed early, but last night was too intense. They spent too much time in the bathroom, and in her daze, she developed a fever.
Lin Duxi was woken up by the heat.
When she slowly opened her eyes, she immediately noticed something was wrong with the person beside her. Her groggy consciousness instantly cleared.
“Ah Yu.” She reached out to touch An Yu’s forehead, her fingertips meeting scorching heat.
An Yu frowned, grabbed the fingers on her forehead, and placed them over her heart. Her muddled awareness made her reluctant to wake up.
“A fever,” Lin Duxi murmured, quickly withdrawing her hand and getting out of bed.
She remembered that An Yu’s suitcase always carried medication.
Mindful of An Yu’s restless sleep, she tiptoed over.
There was a password.
Lin Duxi paused, tentatively turning the dial to An Yu’s birthday. Wrong.
She then entered her own birthday. Still wrong.
Lin Duxi was stumped. An Yu’s phone password was also a four-digit number, possibly the same, but she didn’t know it.
She was at a loss.
On the bed, An Yu slept fitfully, apparently feeling hot, even kicking the covers aside slightly. The sound of fabric rustling reached Lin Duxi’s ears, tugging at her heart.
Phone password?
Lin Duxi suddenly recalled a number-one she had seen An Yu input without any change in expression.
Click. The lock opened.
Lin Duxi’s heart surged like a tidal wave, momentarily stunned, unsure what to do.
A few seconds later, suppressing the wildly growing emotions in her heart, she rummaged through the suitcase for cold medicine, put on some clothes, went out to fetch a cup of warm water, and gently fed it to An Yu.
Though An Yu’s consciousness was still hazy, her ears caught the sound of Lin Duxi opening and closing the door. By the time Lin Duxi helped her up, she was nearly awake.
Seeing the medicine in Lin Duxi’s hand, An Yu smiled faintly.
“I can take it myself,” she said, reaching for the cup.
Lin Duxi moved the cup away, her eyes stubbornly refusing to let go.
An Yu sighed softly. “Then I’ll trouble Miss Lin.”
Despite everything that had happened, the address reverted to “Miss Lin.”
Such mischief!
Lin Duxi’s heart was wrapped in self-reproach, not wanting to say much. She took a sip to ensure the water wasn’t too hot before carefully bringing it to An Yu’s lips, deliberately turning the side she had sipped from toward An Yu’s mouth.
An Yu had intended to distract Lin Duxi, but seeing her still frowning, she sighed inwardly and swallowed the medicine first.
After taking the medicine, An Yu felt her condition wasn’t too bad. The fever was purely from that cold shower, so she prepared to get up for the recording.
But with a push from Lin Duxi, her barely upright body fell back down.
An Yu: “I’m really fine. After taking the medicine, I feel much better already.”
Lin Duxi tucked her in tightly: “Cold medicine doesn’t work that fast. Rest well and sleep. I’ll talk to the director.”
Her tone carried a hint of self-blame barely detectable to others.
An Yu’s heart melted into a puddle: “Actually, I already felt a bit feverish after the shower last night. What happened afterward… wasn’t the cause.”
That was why she had asked that question.
Unexpectedly, upon hearing her explanation, Lin Duxi seemed to recall some details and suddenly looked up: “You were already feverish, yet you-you pervert!” She sounded more like an angry kitten now.
She yanked the covers over An Yu’s head, hiding her from view.
Her fair skin flushed even redder.
An Yu smiled slightly. At least Lin Duxi wouldn’t drown in self-reproach now.
After a while, hearing no sound, An Yu quietly pulled the covers down just enough to peek out, only to meet Lin Duxi’s moist eyes.
Her pupils dilated slightly.
“Why did you change the suitcase password?” Lin Duxi couldn’t help asking.
Hearing this, An Yu’s lips curved: “I remembered that date was very special, so I used it.”
Her tone was exceptionally candid, like a clear mountain breeze blowing gently, leaving only pure affection.
Lin Duxi’s heart burned with fierce, uncontrollable love, spreading wildly. She leaned down.
“I still have a fever. I can’t pass it to you,” An Yu said, pressing a hand against Lin Duxi’s shoulder to stop her.
Lin Duxi smiled, her eyes warm and tender: “Alright, then rest well.”
She continued leaning down, pressing her forehead against An Yu’s to check her temperature, her lashes fluttering slightly. Their breaths mingled, echoing in their hearts, pounding against their chests.
Still burning up.
“Skip the recording today. I’ll talk to Director Qiao.”
Lin Duxi started to change clothes to head out but was stopped by a hand gripping her wrist.
“No need. I’ll be fine after some sleep. Weren’t we supposed to go grocery shopping together today? We should still go,” An Yu said, holding her wrist, unconsciously being sweet.
Her clear, bright eyes gazed at Lin Duxi, her fever-flushed cheeks rosy.
Lin Duxi couldn’t resist that look. Her wavering resolve crumbled completely: “Then rest this morning. We’ll record in the afternoon.”
Seeing An Yu about to protest, she quickly cut her off: “That’s the bare minimum!”
An Yu: “Fine. I’ll sleep then.”
Only then did Lin Duxi relax. She changed into a high-neck sweater before leaving-last night, she had promised not to kiss An Yu’s neck, but An Yu hadn’t held back, leaving bite marks on her collarbone.
An Yu’s consciousness was still somewhat hazy. She ended up sleeping again until the fever fully broke.
When she woke once more, the room was still empty. Lin Duxi must still be recording.
Drenched in sweat, An Yu felt utterly uncomfortable. Since it was nearly noon anyway, she got up and showered.
After changing into fresh clothes, An Yu sat idly by the bed, picking up a mirror nearby. Her pupils instantly dilated.
Lin Duxi had indeed kept her promise-no marks on her neck. But why was the corner of her lips cracked, with a scab?
She checked the rest of her body and raised an eyebrow. Everywhere except her neck, indeed.
An Yu set the mirror aside, touching her lips lightly. Memories of last night surfaced-whispers and moans in the throes of passion made her ears burn.
Before Lin Duxi returned, An Yu quickly adjusted her clothes, then put on an expression of unease and indignation, calling out proactively:
“System! System! Something terrible happened, System!”
As expected, after a burst of static-like noise, the system appeared in her mind.
“What is it?” It only asked one question before its sharp instincts detected something amiss.
“What did you do?” The system’s voice was unmistakably panicked, though it clung to a sliver of hope.
When a host violated rules, alarms would trigger. But last night, none had sounded. Perhaps its intuition was wrong.
But An Yu’s next words shattered that hope.
“Lin Duxi said this. I just followed her lead-that doesn’t count as me failing my duty, right?”
An Yu’s words struck like thunder. The system saw black-if it had a physical form, it might have fainted on the spot.
“You-what did you say? What exactly did you do?” The system raged. An Yu could even feel its oppressive aura intensifying.
A faint smile tugged at An Yu’s lips. The opportunity she’d been waiting for had arrived.
“Can’t you tell? It’s exactly what you’re thinking.” As she suspected, when the system was absent, it couldn’t monitor her actions-it could only deduce based on existing detection mechanisms, triggering alerts when thresholds were crossed.
But now, the system’s prized deductions backfired.
The female lead and the supporting female character it managed had actually…
They’d actually slept together, and it hadn’t detected it. Only after a night had passed, when An Yu summoned it, did it realize.
“An Yu! Do you have any idea what you’ve done? She’s the female lead!” The system roared in her mind, the vibrations making An Yu’s head throb.
“Lin Duxi asked for it. I couldn’t refuse,” An Yu retorted through the pain.
“Didn’t you say that as long as I didn’t overstep the female lead’s requests, I wouldn’t trigger punishment? The detectors didn’t flag any violations. So what are you doing now-taking private revenge?”
An Yu felt as if her organs were being crushed, suffocation enveloping her. She barely forced the words out.
At this, the system’s punishment hesitated momentarily before gradually receding. An Yu collapsed to the floor, gasping for air, her freshly showered body drenched in cold sweat again.
The surroundings fell deathly silent. The system seemed to have vanished, leaving only her. The sound of her ragged breathing hammered at her eardrums, yet she felt something even more oppressive than suffocation gripping her heart, paralyzing her.
“Tell me, did you truly not violate Lin Duxi’s wishes at all?” The system’s icy, loathsome voice echoed in her mind.
An Yu: “?”
“Regarding last night, the system suspects a malfunction in the detection mechanisms failed to trigger an alert. A repair request has been submitted. The system reasonably suspects the host of interfering with the female lead’s will. Based on the principle of presumption of guilt… static … the system will now initiate punishment.”
An Yu: “You altered the rules!”
“Five, four, three, two, one. Punishment activated.”
Simultaneously, Lin Duxi, resting during the event, also lost consciousness.
Cold wind again. The third time.
An Yu opened her eyes wordlessly, a million curses for the system swirling in her heart.
It had actually changed the rules right in front of her. It must have been truly furious.
An Yu couldn’t help but smirk. Finally, it had slipped up. Now she knew how to fight back.
Footsteps sounded behind her. An Yu’s heart clenched, but she maintained her composure.
On her third experience, she had full control over this body.
Open the suitcase, check the cash inside, close it, fasten the locks, then-
Dodge the knife swing, sidestep the kick. The man couldn’t anticipate her moves, panicking as he slashed wildly with the knife.
An Yu couldn’t avoid all his attacks, forced back step by step toward the rooftop edge. Seeing her efforts about to fail, An Yu gritted her teeth against the pain, letting the man slash at her.
She lunged forward, delivering an elbow strike. The wooden mask split apart.
Clatter. The sound of wood hitting the ground. The hood fell back during the movement, and An Yu finally saw the face of the man who had killed her three times.
It was Lin Ze.
Lin Ze stood frozen like a statue, his shocked expression petrified.
The moment she saw him, everything around her began to crack-first the sky, then the buildings, the ground, the frozen man before her.
Finally, herself.
Her consciousness separated from her body. She watched as her form disintegrated with the collapsing scene, until- boom -everything shattered.
