- Chapter 24 - Sleeping in Leng Yan's Room
He Yinshao, Lu Rang, and Lu Qian chose to stay, and the staff members stayed as well.
“Lu Rang… what are you doing?” Lu Qian’s upright figure stood out prominently in the darkness.
“Ge! I just found that skewer of bugs!!!” Lu Rang’s voice was filled with excitement. “Let’s go grill it!!!”
“No…” Lu Qian felt a headache coming on, his temples throbbing. “Throw it away.”
“Ge~” Lu Rang held the bugs in one hand and tugged at Lu Qian’s sleeve with the other. “I want to eat them~”
“…Do you want a slap? Is that what you want to eat?” Lu Qian said calmly.
Lu Rang’s hand trembled, and he tossed the skewer aside. “Not eating them, not eating them…”
“Go back to your room and rest. We have to catch a flight early tomorrow.” Lu Qian led Lu Rang to his door and pushed him inside. “Go. To. Sleep. Early.”
“I. GOT. IT!” Lu Rang returned to his room, looking somewhat dejected.
However, the moment the door closed, he became as lively as ever. Who was he? He was Lu Rang. He couldn’t even eat a skewer of bugs?
“You dog of a man, just wait until the middle of the night when I take those bugs out and grill them. The smell will drive you crazy.” Lu Rang threw a punch at the air.
He Yinshao returned to her room and took a shower. She didn’t feel sleepy at all. After lying in bed for half an hour, she picked up her phone to check her chat history. Leng Yan’s name stood out prominently, even though there wasn’t a single line of dialogue in their chat…
Longing spread rapidly in the dark of night. After hesitating for a long while, He Yinshao sent a message: “Are you done with work?”
The reply from the other side was swift.
“In a meeting. My phone is being screen-mirrored.”
“!!!”
He Yinshao instantly felt her face heat up.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Leng Yan placed her phone face down on the desk. “Keep going with the presentation. It’s not like I was chatting about anything important.”
“Oh, okay…” Leng Yan’s assistant flipped through the documents unnerved. If she wasn’t mistaken, she had just seen He Yinshao sending a message to the young CEO Leng.
Weren’t these two arch-enemies? Had they made up?
“I heard He Ji wants to cooperate with us recently?” Leng Yan propped her head up with her hand, a trace of a smile in her eyes. “Cooperate on what?”
He Ji was He Feng’s half-brother. After He Feng’s mother died, He Ji was brought into the family legitimately by their father. There was a two-year age gap between the brothers.
In her memory, he was a promising talent with great business potential. However, He Feng eventually seized all of their father’s assets, and He Ji’s company was swallowed up by He Feng…
Leng Yan felt that something was amiss.
“Uh, He Ji just started a company and wants us to invest,” the assistant said hesitantly. “CEO Leng, it’s just a small company. We don’t need to waste energy on this. He—”
“Invest in him. Give him proper support.”
“Understood.”
the assistant didn’t understand. CEO Leng never used to pay attention to such small enterprises. However, the current CEO Leng’s business acumen seemed even sharper than before… it wasn’t a bad thing.
In the early hours of the morning, He Yinshao really couldn’t sleep. After tossing and turning in bed, she stepped out of her room to get some fresh air.
When she reached the villa’s backyard, she heard a muffled “crunching” sound.
“Who’s there?” He Yinshao grew alert. She called out sharply and slowly approached the figure.
“Shhh! Shhh!!” Lu Rang turned around, his index finger to his lips, speaking through gritted teeth. “It’s me! Keep your voice down!!”
“What are you doing?” He Yinshao instantly relaxed.
“Eating BBQ.”
“Didn’t we finish eating?” He Yinshao was puzzled, then suddenly clapped her hands. “Oh, right! You never grilled that skewer of bugs!”
“My dear lady, keep it down! If my brother wakes up, he’ll beat me.” Lu Rang wanted to cry but had no tears. He reached out and pulled her down into a squat.
“I’m going to tell your brother.” Remembering how Lu Rang had provoked her and flirted with Leng Yan over the past few days, He Yinshao smiled without reaching her eyes. “Unless you pay me a thousand-yuan hush fee.”
“Do I look like a sucker to you?” Lu Rang let go and wiped his hands on his clothes. “I haven’t eaten a thousand-yuan skewer of BBQ in my entire life!!”
“Tsk. Then introduce me to some resources. I want to act,” He Yinshao said. She figured this would be a way to earn money.
“Fine, fine, fine. I’ll recommend some directors to you later. But since it’s your first time acting, the best you’ll get is the second female lead. You might even only get the third.” Lu Rang chewed on another bug. “So good. Pure protein…”
“Eww…” He Yinshao rolled her eyes and headed back to the villa. “I’m going back.”
He Yinshao slowly walked up to the second floor. She paused as her hand touched the doorknob of her own room.
Her gaze darkened. She glanced at the tightly closed door that belonged to Leng Yan. No one knew what she was thinking.
One second,
Two seconds,
Three seconds…
He Yinshao let go of her doorknob and walked further down the hall. She opened a different door and walked inside.
Upon entering, He Yinshao smelled a faint, lingering fragrance and felt herself relax completely.
She slowly walked to Leng Yan’s bed, sat down, and lay back. The bed was soft, and the quilt was comfortable. As she lay there, she unconsciously wrapped the quilt tightly around her. The scent of Leng Yan seemed to linger on the fabric; it felt as if she were holding Leng Yan again.
This time, He Yinshao fell asleep quickly.
In her dream, she saw Leng Yan’s figure. The other woman walked toward her and ordered the servants to whip her. Her back was covered in scars… she could almost feel the pain even now. A towering hatred was impossible to hide.
The scene shifted. Her own cold corpse lay at Leng Yan’s feet. Leng Yan’s gaze was like she was looking at an object…
What happened next? Did the second-life version of her face off against He Feng? Probably not, since she was gone…
The scene shifted again. Leng Yan was in her arms, wearing a bathrobe. The other woman’s body was soft. “What are you doing?” The words carried no threat at all. He Yinshao felt playful and didn’t let go; instead, she hugged her tighter.
“He Yinshao?!!”
She seemed to see Leng Yan’s flustered look, her ear tips flushing red… She remembered how she had looked at Leng Yan with a pitiful expression in the ambulance and how the other woman had softened. So, she used that look again in her dream.
“Sigh, you…” Leng Yan indeed stopped struggling and turned her head away. “Let go of me…”
Leng Yan’s profile was turned toward her, her bright red ears exposed. Completely unable to help herself, He Yinshao leaned in and kissed her ear gently.
Leng Yan’s eyes widened, her cheeks flushed crimson, and she broke free from the embrace, slapping He Yinshao across the face!
“!!” He Yinshao woke up in a panic, realizing it was just a dream. She touched her lips; the sensation seemed to linger…
