After Saving My Possessive Best Friend, I Couldn't Escape (GL) - Chapter 13
“I knew those photos were taken by you,” Fang Zhile was delighted the moment she heard that.
With Ye Yu’s footsteps approaching from behind, Fang Zhile struggled to keep her mouth shut, feigning a look of panic and terror. She stammered, “Why is Zhou Meize doing this! Why does she want to ruin me!”
Completely oblivious that Fang Zhile had shifted the target of her attack, Sun Li began to curse and rattle on like beans spilling from a container. “That’s right, you’ve messed with someone you shouldn’t have! Sister Meize won’t let you off!”
Fang Zhile covered her face and lowered her head, thinking, So this is what it feels like to have a defective brainstem.
Sun Li actually looks beautiful in my eyes now.
Good looking? Traded her IQ for it!
“Zhile,” Ye Yu’s voice was unhurried. “Let’s go together.”
Even hearing her fiancée’s name mentioned, Ye Yu showed no emotional reaction.
She stepped forward and took Fang Zhile’s hand, walking past the three girls with a blank expression, ignoring their gazes.
Ye Yu’s pride and aloofness were like priceless crystal displayed in a cabinet; they weren’t even worthy to look at it.
It was only when she looked down to speak to Fang Zhile that her emotionless face revealed a trace of gentle softness.
The three girls, having been completely ignored, felt as if they’d been slapped across the face and could only stand in place, collapsing in frustrated rage.
On the way, Fang Zhile gently tried to pull her hand away, and Ye Yu immediately released her wrist.
The tips of Fang Zhile’s ears were slightly red. “I, I’m going to the cafeteria first.”
Ye Yu escorted her to the cafeteria entrance and nodded quietly. “Go ahead.”
As Fang Zhile turned to leave, Ye Yu suddenly asked, “What are those photos they mentioned?”
Fang Zhile stopped, her expression unchanging. “It’s nothing, just some random scribbles and drawings.”
Ye Yu nodded. “Alright.”
After watching Fang Zhile leave, Ye Yu took out her phone and edited a new entry in her memo.
Fang Zhile.
Sun Li and the three of them.
Once.
Twice.
Thrice.
Photos.
…
Ye Yu frowned for a moment, then moved “Photos” to the beginning of the list.
After school dismissal at noon, Zhou Meize went to the water room on the third floor.
Ye Yu rarely initiated contact to meet her privately. Although she was the easiest person to get a meeting with, Ye Yu was not enthusiastic about their private encounters.
Zhou Meize was a little excited, and also curious, about Ye Yu’s invitation. However, the location—the “third-floor water room”—was a bit simple, not private enough, and not very clean.
“You’re here,” Ye Yu heard her footsteps, turned away from the window, and looked at her with a faint smile. “Come look at the view with me.”
Zhou Meize walked over. “What view is there here? It’s dirty and messy.”
As she reached the window, Zhou Meize’s complaining voice stopped.
Chunyang High School had been established for many years and had many century-old trees on campus. In the height of summer, they cast a full blanket of shade.
The third-floor water room was located at a corner on the third floor, and the window overlooked lush green camphor trees.
The afternoon sunlight was evenly spread over every leaf, giving them a shimmering glow.
“The high school campus is full of fresh energy,” Ye Yu said calmly. “It’s quiet and pure here. I like it.”
Zhou Meize nodded. “You’ve always liked to be alone and quiet.”
Ye Yu gently tilted her head and smiled at her. “Sister, do you remember what I said before I started school?”
“You said quite a lot,” Zhou Meize’s memory was decent, and since Ye Yu didn’t actually talk much, she could remember the occasional words. “You wanted a quiet high school life, to stay in school normally, and not be disturbed.”
“I thought at the time that if I discarded my identity and didn’t let people know I was the sole daughter of the Ye family, there wouldn’t be a swarm of flies and butterflies revolving around me all day,” Ye Yu lowered her gaze, the curve of her eyes cool. “But I never imagined that some people could be so malicious towards classmates from ordinary families.”
The moment she said this, Zhou Meize sensed something was wrong.
She frowned at Ye Yu, thinking Ye Yu was about to stand up for Fang Zhile.
No one else had ever come between them.
Why was Ye Yu suddenly standing up for Fang Zhile now? Ye Yu had never paid attention to these people before. Oh right, thanks to Ye Yu, Zhou Meize also remembered the person’s name: Fang Zhile. A name that sounded tacky the moment she heard it.
Meeting Zhou Meize’s disapproving and scrutinizing gaze, Ye Yu’s eyes shifted slightly, and she spoke calmly. “Your little followers have been rude to me.”
Zhou Meize was stunned in surprise. It took her a moment to realize that Ye Yu was not speaking up for Fang Zhile. Her expression brightened. Ignoring whatever else Ye Yu was saying, she gave a perfunctory, “Ah, I see.”
Ye Yu looked at her quietly and repeated, “Sun Li, Li Zi, and Liu Mei. These are the three names I remember. They often brought me up in their conversations. I warned them once yesterday, but it seems to have had no effect.”
Zhou Meize’s expression darkened slightly. “Are they that gossipy? I’ll talk to them.”
“Gossipy is a bit of an understatement,” Ye Yu chuckled softly. “When people are ignorant, they easily become malicious. ‘Gossipy’ is too kind a description for them.”
Zhou Meize’s face became serious. The tone in Ye Yu’s words made her feel uneasy. She hesitated and asked, “How do you plan to punish them?”
Ye Yu said nothing, looking out the window with a calm expression.
“How about this, let me handle it for you,” Zhou Meize felt uncomfortable. Around Ye Yu, she always felt a sense of anxiousness and walking on eggshells.
The three people Ye Yu mentioned were indeed her lackeys; they had been with her since middle school.
But even so, Ye Yu could bypass her to teach them a lesson, and no one would fault her for it.
Zhou Meize proposed, “You don’t want to reveal your identity, right? I’ll restrain—oh, no, I’ll teach them a lesson for you, so that they walk the other way whenever they see you. How does that sound?”
Sensing the concession in Zhou Meize’s tone, Ye Yu, who knew her temperament well, decided to stop while she was ahead. She gave her a gentle smile. “Then I’ll leave it to you, Sister.”
With that, Ye Yu took half a step closer, tucking a strand of Zhou Meize’s loose hair behind her ear. Her fingertip was cool and soft, and her expression was tender. “Second year of high school is stressful. Sister, please take care of yourself.”
Zhou Meize could see the affection in Ye Yu’s eyes. The dissatisfaction that had been brewing in her heart was immediately suppressed. Forget it. Ye Yu was her future wife, after all, and was asking her for help. She should be generous.
“You too,” Zhou Meize said softly. She held Ye Yu’s hand, wanting to say something more, but Ye Yu gently pulled her hand away.
The way Ye Yu lowered her head looked like shyness to Zhou Meize. Zhou Meize laughed, teasingly. “Still so shy, huh? Fine, I won’t hold your hand then.”
“Let’s go eat.” Ye Yu changed the subject, and Zhou Meize readily agreed.
