After Saving My Possessive Best Friend, I Couldn't Escape (GL) - Chapter 15
Zhou Meize’s family was strict, especially her mother, who had tightly controlled her behavior and words since she was a child until things slightly improved in middle school.
In contrast, Zhou’s mother was very fond of Ye Yu, treating her with more affection than her own child.
Every Friday after school, someone from home would be sent to pick them up, but Zhou Meize loved to play and disliked going home, often leading to disputes between the two parties.
Zhou Meize was, after all, only a seventeen-year-old teenager. At school, where no one restrained her, she could indulge her desires.
However, whenever family matters arose, they reminded her of the days when she was strictly controlled as a child, and her mood would become very poor.
“What are you doing here?” Zhou Meize’s expression was unfriendly, and her tone toward Fang Zhile was sharp and hostile.
Fang Zhile had deliberately come for her. Hearing Zhou Meize start the fire first, she was immediately delighted in her heart.
What am I doing? Nothing.
Just here to piss you off.
Fang Zhile pulled her canvas bag and looked down as she walked past, showing the hairpin on her ear as she turned her head.
“Wait,” Zhou Meize’s sharp eyes instantly spotted the hairpin on her head, and she snapped, “What is that on your head?”
Fang Zhile flinched as if startled. “Wh-what?”
Zhou Meize took a step forward, reaching out directly to grab it.
Fang Zhile snapped back to reality, quickly jumping to the side like a startled rabbit. “What are you doing!”
“This is a hairpin Ye Yu gave me. You can’t touch it.” Fang Zhile looked at Zhou Meize, puffing out her cheeks like a small animal guarding its food.
A dark cloud passed over Zhou Meize’s face. She ground her teeth, enunciating every word: “That is something Ye Yu keeps close to her. How could she give it to someone like you? Tell me, did you steal it!”
“Ye Yu gave this to me!” Fang Zhile retorted loudly. “And what do you mean by ‘someone like me’? Do you think Ye Yu is the same as you? She wouldn’t mind these things at all!”
Zhou Meize wanted to deny it, but on second thought, Ye Yu truly was different from her since childhood. Zhou Meize despised stray cats and dogs on the street and would have the servants chase them away, but Ye Yu would personally get out of the car, wrap them in a blanket, and take them home.
When they entered middle school, the people around them changed from other children of wealthy families to a mixed bag, and Ye Yu never showed any distaste. She was always willing to empathize with those of lower status.
Zhou Meize gritted her teeth in anger. “Even if she gave it to you, so what? That hairpin on your head is a defilement.”
It wasn’t surprising that Zhou Meize noticed it; the hairpin was simply too familiar. It was Ye Yu’s birthday gift one year, brought back by her cousin from abroad. It was a rare, yet not particularly expensive, stone carved into a beautiful flower and leaf.
At the time, Ye Yu had just donated her long hair to children undergoing chemotherapy and loved the hairpin, wearing it constantly before her hair grew out.
Now it was idle, but it was a precious item Ye Yu liked. Who was Fang Zhile to wear it?
Fang Zhile clutched the hairpin and shouted, “None of your business! This is Ye Yu’s intention. She saw my hair was loose and couldn’t be tied up, so she lent it to me. What does that have to do with you!”
Zhou Meize gave her a look of disgust and mocked her. “She is mine. Tell me what that has to do with me.”
“Bah!” Fang Zhile, who had been retreating three steps away, immediately jumped up in exasperation. “Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey! Stop disgusting Ye Yu, calling her yours! Ugh—”
These words severely humiliated Zhou Meize. She didn’t dwell on regretting having just blurted out their relationship to Fang Zhile; instead, she was even more infuriated when Fang Zhile vehemently denied it and insulted her.
“She is mine,” Zhou Meize emphasized each word. “Everything about her is under my control. You had better stay away from her, or else…”
Fang Zhile raised an eyebrow and sneered, “Oh?”
“Or else what? You’ll make Sun Yangyang cry herself to death for me?”
Zhou Meize’s expression froze.
Fang Zhile pointed at her and began to scold. “I knew why Ye Yu always protected you! So there really is something between you two!”
“You are a sly and shameless scoundrel!”
“If you like Ye Yu and want to pursue her, then treat her wholeheartedly. But look at you, embracing two at once, hugging and snuggling with Sun Yangyang in public! It’s disgraceful!”
Fang Zhile felt satisfied from scolding. Ignoring the fact that Ye Yu would soon be coming to ride in Zhou Meize’s car, she pointed her finger and berated her like spilling beans. “Is Ye Yu your backup plan! Who does she think she is, letting you treat her like this? You don’t deserve to like her!”
“And calling Ye Yu ‘yours’! Ye Yu doesn’t belong to anyone! She belongs to herself!”
Fang Zhile spat out the final sentence, “She belongs to herself,” pointing at Zhou Meize’s head with every word. The words resonated with powerful energy from her chest, resounding loudly and stunning Zhou Meize into silence.
It only lasted a few seconds. Zhou Meize recovered, her face darkening, realizing that she had actually been pointed at and cursed by a mere ant.
It had been a long time since anyone dared to provoke her like this. She absolutely had to teach this person a lesson.
“Fine,” Zhou Meize said as she pulled out her phone, her tone venomous and sharp. “I hope your bones are as hard as your mouth is in a moment.”
The phone screen lit up simultaneously. It was a call from Ye Yu. Zhou Meize answered, her tone still uncontrolled and aggressive. “What is it?”
Ye Yu seemed not to notice her tone, inquiring calmly, “Where are you? I’ve been waiting at the west side gate for a long time, but no one is here.”
“I’m at the east side gate,” Zhou Meize frowned. “You went to the wrong place.”
“I’ll come over now, then. Auntie just messaged me; she’s waiting for us to eat,” Ye Yu said softly.
Silence fell on both sides of the phone call. Ye Yu’s call had interrupted her plans. Zhou’s mother was strict with her, and if she caused trouble now, she definitely wouldn’t be able to hide it from her.
Zhou Meize took a few seconds before speaking, her voice already calm. “No need. We’ll come pick you up.”
Hanging up the phone, Zhou Meize didn’t pay any more attention to the person behind her. She walked toward the car. The butler, who had been standing on the side like a dummy, suddenly sprang to life, respectfully opening the door for her.
Zhou Meize got in with a blank expression and ordered the driver to leave.
Watching the car drive away, Ye Yu, standing behind the east side gate, gently lowered her phone and turned to walk toward the west side gate.
All the way, she felt like she could still hear the words Fang Zhile had just shouted.
Her features were vivid and full of vitality, making her a bright sight to behold.
She would glare with wide eyes and curse for her.
She would even be so angry that she would jump in place.
Her shoulder-length hair swayed gently with her movements. Ye Yu remembered the feeling of touching it—smooth and soft, like fine silk.
Truly beautiful.
As for the content of the words, she didn’t care.
Since childhood, there had been a voice in her mind that wasn’t hers, telling her to get close to Zhou Meize, repeating over and over that Zhou Meize was her lover. Ye Yu found the voice annoying and did as it commanded. Later, she found Zhou Meize annoying and merely placated the voice. Over time, the voice had faded.
She understood the meaning of Fang Zhile’s words, but old habits die hard.
She was already accustomed to the close relationship between the two families and did not want to break this peaceful life.
For now, it’s fine as it is.
