After Saving My Possessive Best Friend, I Couldn't Escape (GL) - Chapter 5
Li Zi was dragged over and grabbed by the throat from three steps away by Fang Zhile.
“What did you say?” Fang Zhile loosely pinched her neck, her tone very low but carrying a chilling coldness. “Ye Yu is chasing Zhou Meize?”
Sun Li shrieked in fright, backing away and yelling, “Fang Zhile, let go!”
Fang Zhile hadn’t planned on hitting anyone again. She simply couldn’t stand these people talking about Ye Yu. Hearing the demand, she didn’t let go. Instead, she pulled Li Zi even closer, her voice practically right next to the girl’s ear, gritting her teeth. “Is this what you usually do—speculate about their relationship?”
Perhaps the shadow of being lifted by the neck earlier was too deep, as Liu Mei had retreated the moment she saw Fang Zhile stand up.
Now, she was behind the ladder leading to the upper bunk, glaring at Fang Zhile and gnashing her teeth.
“Everything we said is the truth! Ye Yu has been chasing Sister Meize since the start of high school—sending breakfast, homework, and gifts for every holiday and birthday. She constantly intercepts Sister Meize. Sister Meize is practically sick of her, but she still shamelessly throws herself at her, utterly without shame!”
Fang Zhile’s grip slackened slightly. She suddenly realized a problem.
“Did Ye Yu and Zhou Meize know each other before?” Fang Zhile’s speed in changing the topic caught everyone off guard. “Also, why do you assume Ye Yu is ‘throwing herself at’ her? Even if she’s pursuing her, it should be an even match.”
Sun Li, who had harbored intense malice towards Ye Yu from the start, mocked openly, “How could Sister Meize know Ye Yu? She’s never mentioned her to us! Every time, Sister Meize tells her to stop sending things, but Ye Yu stubbornly refuses to listen! And how is she not ‘throwing herself at her’? Look at her, dressed plainly, looking so pure and pristine, but she’s just a poor student. Sister Meize’s family is a sponsor of the school! She’s been sucking up to a family she can’t possibly match since high school. That kind of person is truly shameless!”
So that’s how it was.
Zhou Meize truly lived up to her title as the Scum Gong in the novel.
The Ye and Zhou families had an engagement since childhood, yet she never mentioned Ye Yu’s status to her lackeys.
She even allowed these small-minded people to maliciously slander Ye Yu.
Fang Zhile tilted her head, furious but forcing a laugh. “Fine. I’ll remember you all.”
Zhou Meize, you are finished.
Li Zi struggled to free herself from Fang Zhile’s grasp, her face red and neck bulging as she shouted abuse, “You’re finished! You are absolutely finished!”
Fang Zhile glanced at her, her eyes calm and unwavering. She suddenly asked, “This morning in the classroom, you deliberately spilled ink on my desk, didn’t you?” That made her rush to the water room to clean her arm without even having lunch.
Li Zi scoffed foolishly. “So what? Do you have proof?”
Fang Zhile didn’t speak. Li Zi pointed at her and started cursing again. “Don’t think you can stay in this dorm!”
Fang Zhile nodded, scanning the faces of the three girls one by one, and said gravely, “Remember what you said.”
With that, Fang Zhile turned around, collected her books, put her study materials into a canvas bag, slung it over her shoulder, and left.
Outside the dorm, the campus was completely silent. Everyone was taking a lunch break, and even the cicada’s chirping in the trees had quieted down.
Fang Zhile walked on the rubber surface of the sports field. The midday sun of midsummer evaporated the moisture from her hair.
Unconsciously, she found herself walking to the foot of Ye Yu’s dorm building.
Fang Zhile looked up at Ye Yu’s window. The screen was tightly closed, with no sign of anyone inside.
The malicious words of those girls still echoed in her mind: Sucking up. Delusional. Shameless.
In the water room, Ye Yu held her books, aloof and cold, separating herself from everyone around her. With a temperament like that, she wouldn’t bother with idle gossip unless it was screamed right in her face.
But the rumors were only intensifying.
She was the legitimate fiancée, yet people called her a sparrow attempting to cling to a wealthy family.
She was someone who would take a stranger who stumbled back to her dorm to care for, yet in their mouths, she became a shameless person who sacrificed her dignity to achieve her goals.
Fang Zhile wanted to rush into the dorm right now and expose Zhou Meize’s cold-blooded, heartless true face in front of Ye Yu.
But the thought of Ye Yu being hurt by this, and the knowledge of Ye Yu’s dark transformation in the original plot, forced Fang Zhile to back down.
Fang Zhile walked six laps with a blank expression. The sun baked her until she was covered in sweat, and the mounting anger finally subsided submissively under the intense heat.
Ye Yu was the protagonist Shou, after all. The fact that she continued to be good to Zhou Meize despite so much ridicule showed that Zhou Meize held a unique place in her heart.
She had to proceed step by step.
“Our fields—”
The bell for the afternoon class rang. Fang Zhile, covered in heat, walked back to the classroom.
The first class in the afternoon was Physical Education. The gym teacher had everyone run two laps around the track, performed two sets of martial arts exercises, and then announced free time.
The P.E. class was held in the indoor gymnasium, where the air conditioning was strong. After being dismissed, everyone rushed to the various sports equipment. Fang Zhile picked up a dumbbell, sat down on the side, and slowly rocked it, her gaze focused on a solitary, slender figure moving at a steady pace on the track in the distance.
Fang Zhile’s and Ye Yu’s classes were across the hall from each other—one being the best and richest students in the academic track, the other being the best and richest in the art track—and their P.E. classes were often scheduled together.
Ye Yu had poor health since childhood, especially weak lung capacity. Whenever she had time, Fang Zhile would drag her out to climb mountains on the weekend, but Ye Yu would be breathless halfway up.
Because of this, Ye Yu had developed a habit: whenever she had time, she would take a slow jog.
On the other side, Zhou Meize was playing basketball, her long hair tied back in a ponytail. Her posture was agile, her face refined and handsome—she was undeniably good-looking.
The ball swished through the hoop, followed by cheers from the crowd. The cheers had barely ended when they were interspersed with teasing laughter and mockery.
“Meize has good fortune.”
“She sure does! Sun Yangyang has been waiting right behind her the whole time.”
“I wish a beauty would bring me water, too.”
Sun Yangyang, the focus of the teasing, blushed, lowering her head as she handed a bottle of mineral water to Zhou Meize.
Zhou Meize was wiping sweat with a towel. She wasn’t annoyed by the teasing and looked back, saying, “Stop teasing the little girl, she just brought a bottle of water.”
“Oh, now you’re defending her!”
“She won’t even let us tease her.”
Hearing this, Sun Yangyang lowered her head even further, her pointed chin nearly poking her collarbone. The teasing made her feel both shame and excitement. With Zhou Meize standing right next to her, her feelings surged like wildly growing weeds, filling her with a sense of happiness.
A month ago, Zhou Meize accepted the chocolate she offered, and since then, allowed her to constantly cling to her, taking her everywhere in and out of the classroom. Zhou Meize’s friends all treated them as a couple.
Zhou Meize looked down at the bottle, paused, then unscrewed it. After drinking, she handed it back and said softly, “There are a lot of people playing basketball here. Be careful you don’t get hit. You should go wait somewhere else for now.”
Fang Zhile scoffed, silently cursing the rotten girl (Gong).
