After She Fell for Me, I Lost My Memory (GL) - Chapter 7
After leaving the barbecue restaurant, Jian Mu went back to the office and then straight home.
Unlike her usual steadfastness, today Jian Mu felt a little heavy-hearted.
When she opened the door, she paused at the keypad lock. Cen Luo’s voice suddenly echoed in her ears—
“Let’s set the password to the day we officially met. Oh, right, you probably don’t remember. I’ll show you how to press it. 131204. Got it?”
She subconsciously touched her index finger, as if she could still feel the warmth of Cen Luo’s hand pressing on hers.
But in an instant, Jian Mu frowned and took two steps back, leaning against the wall, breathing heavily.
It’s starting again.
After a long while, when there were no more images in her mind, Jian Mu closed her eyes and entered the password again.
The voice of the smart lock brought Jian Mu a sense of security.
She placed her coat and bag on the rack by the entrance and walked into the living room.
The indoor air conditioning had turned on automatically, blowing away the chill from her body.
When she first bought this apartment, Jian Mu was at her busiest. The apartment was just a place to live for her, so she hadn’t planned to waste any time on it. She was going to hand it over directly to an interior design company.
When Cen Luo heard about this, she volunteered to take charge of the apartment’s renovation.
Jian Mu thought it was all the same no matter who did it, so she gave the task to her.
But Jian Mu hadn’t expected someone’s taste to be so bad.
Besides being bright and clean, the design didn’t meet any of the other criteria the designer had mentioned.
The whole room was filled with animated characters. The walls were even printed with a blue Doraemon. From the sofa to the dining table, from the living room to the kitchen, Jian Mu had never seen so many strange cartoon characters in her life.
Fortunately, the designer had some conscience. After seeing Jian Mu’s long silence, she had sincerely apologized.
“I’m so sorry! I didn’t think it would look this ugly with all of them on the walls. I won’t do it again!”
It was a little ugly, but it’s manageable. The apartment is just a place to rest for me anyway.
Jian Mu looked at the somewhat guilty Cen Luo, seeing several bandages on her hands. She remembered hearing that Cen Luo was looking for an apartment a while ago and, as if possessed, asked, “Do you want to live together?”
Cen Luo was stunned at first, then she blinked, her face suddenly flushed. She nodded like a pecking chicken. “Okay.”
Jian Mu never went back on her word. Cen Luo had helped her out several times over the years, and they had known each other for so long. They had also been dating for almost a year. Besides, there were so many rooms, and she didn’t come home much, so living together was fine.
“When I was a kid, my grandma told me that when I’m unhappy, I should watch cartoons. It would make me happy, no matter if I was a big kid or a little kid. Do you know them? When I was little and my mom used to hit me, I’d cry and watch them…”
After she agreed to live together, Cen Luo began to enthusiastically tell Jian Mu about her inseparable bond with cartoons as a child, and even introduced her to the names of the cartoon characters.
But in all these years, Jian Mu had never seemed to see Cen Luo unhappy. The Cen Luo in her eyes was always smiling.
Perhaps that was the reason she chose to be with Cen Luo; at least she wouldn’t bring her any trouble.
Jian Mu took a bottle of red wine from the wine cabinet, poured a glass, and swirled the glass as she stood by the French window, looking outside.
After yesterday’s rain, the weather had been gloomy. Dark clouds gathered in the sky, looking like it could rain at any moment.
Jian Mu took a sip of red wine, then was momentarily stunned as if she had remembered something. She looked at the wine glass in her hand and placed it on the coffee table.
A while later, a drizzle began to fall outside, just as she had expected.
Phone notifications: 0. WeChat messages: 0. Call logs: 0.
After the one message Cen Luo had sent notifying her of her plans, she hadn’t sent her any more messages.
This is good.
Didn’t you get what you wanted?
Across from the French window was a sea of green, an endless lawn.
There was a sofa near the window, which Cen Luo had specifically gotten for Jian Mu to drink tea and relax on.
Jian Mu sat on the sofa, feeling uncharacteristically bored. All the files she needed to handle were already taken care of.
She opened her phone and saw a red dot on her social media feed. Normally, Jian Mu wouldn’t click on it. She had even turned off the feature before, but one day Cen Luo had come over and asked her why she had blocked her.
After thinking about it, Jian Mu wondered if anyone else would come and ask her the same question. She didn’t want to be bothered, so she turned the feature back on.
Actually, there was no difference whether it was on or off; there were only a handful of posts.
If she remembered correctly, the profile picture under the red dot was Cen Luo’s. She clicked on it and saw a song had been shared.
Jian Mu and Cen Luo didn’t have many mutual friends. Jian Mu hadn’t even added Qin Ran.
So she couldn’t see if anyone had liked Cen Luo’s post.
She casually hit play and then gave Cen Luo a like.
The song was a slow, sad one, a song for “mourning” a past love.
Does Cen Luo have an ex?
Jian Mu didn’t know much about Cen Luo. All the information she had came from Cen Luo’s own “self-introductions.”
When she received the notification that a friend had liked her post, Cen Luo realized what she had done.
People say you get sappy in the middle of the night, but it was only afternoon and she was already being sentimental. And this song was really inappropriate to share.
But when she realized she needed to delete it, it was too late. The comments were asking what was wrong, and there were a lot of likes.
Cen Luo’s lips twitched. She hadn’t expected so many people to care about her.
Just as Cen Luo was about to delete the post, she saw Jian Mu’s like.
Cen Luo: “?”
She was so scared that she quickly went to Jian Mu’s chat box.
[Did you listen to it?]
Jian Mu hadn’t expected Cen Luo to message her suddenly. She understood that Cen Luo was asking if she had listened to the song she had just shared.
Jian Mu: [I did.]
Cen Luo: [Listen to me.]
The reason Cen Luo had shared the song was purely because the melody was too sad, which triggered her emotions, so she had shared it without thinking.
But then she looked at the lyrics and realized the song was about blaming a partner in a relationship.
Just as Cen Luo was trying to figure out what to say, she saw Jian Mu, uncharacteristically, ask her: [Are you sad about an ex?]
Cen Luo: ?
Is that how she understood the song?
I guess it could be.
After all, there were all sorts of strange comments in the comments section, and the top comment mentioned an ex.
So she probably wasn’t mistaken.
Cen Luo breathed a sigh of relief, then sighed again in her heart. Why was I so nervous? Jian Mu would never misunderstand or feel nervous anyway.
Seeing that Cen Luo hadn’t replied for a long time, Jian Mu thought seriously for a moment. Who was it?
For once, Cen Luo didn’t want to explain the question and changed the subject:
[Are you home? What are you doing?]
Jian Mu frowned, feeling a little displeased with the change of topic. She typed out the words “Can’t you tell me?” but paused, then silently deleted it.
[Drinking red wine.]
Cen Luo frowned slightly, lying on her bed and typing: [How much?]
[A few glasses.]
Drink less.
Cen Luo typed out the words and then deleted them.
She sighed quietly. If Jian Mu was telling her about this so openly, she probably didn’t want her to ask too many questions.
After a while, Cen Luo replied:
[Okay [twirling-emoticon/]]
[What kind of wine are you drinking?]
However, a long silence followed, and Jian Mu never replied to her again.
Fortunately, Cen Luo was used to it and didn’t take it to heart.
