After the Cannon Fodder A Accidentally Marked the Paranoid Female Lead - Chapter 18
Ming Sian didn’t feel she needed to care about He Yining’s thoughts; defending her own rights was only natural, so why care what others thought.
She nodded slightly toward He Yining. “Lawyer He.”
Anyone who comes to a bar is a customer; Cheng Cheng had mentioned before that the He family holds shares in The Royal. Since it was a shareholders’ meeting, it was normal for He Yining to be here.
As for her greeting, He Yining simply ignored it, walking past her into Booth 066.
She knew this booth; it didn’t belong to the management of any group. Usually, people were only brought in to clean it when a certain female Beta was present; it was locked on ordinary days.
Watching He Yining walk in, Ming Sian suddenly realized that the day she and Cheng Cheng entered the bar, this was the booth they had gone into. At the time, she was too dazed to notice the booth number.
But the moment He Yining entered, she remembered.
So, Booth 066 was He Yining’s private space; would she participate in the shareholders’ gathering in Booth 001 today?
Back in the booth, He Yining’s mind was filled with the image of Ming Sian’s close-range interaction with that server. From her perspective, Ming Sian, who was half a head taller than the waitress, practically had the girl gathered in her arms.
The bar music was too loud; she couldn’t hear what they were saying, but she saw the waitress run away as if escaping.
Flirting?
He Yining frowned and pressed the bell by her hand. “Ali, have Ming Sian come see me.”
Ming Sian hadn’t even reached the kitchen when she was blocked by the bodyguard she had seen that day. The person pressed their walkie-talkie and said: “I’m taking Number 1101.”
No one was stupid enough to ask “Who are you?”
Although Ming Sian also carried a walkie-talkie, the channel was different; she couldn’t hear the internal frequency dialogue. Those who could speak on that frequency were at least manager-level.
Ming Sian was thus brought into Booth 066.
Looking at He Yining, who had snatched her jacket this morning but now had a cold face, a question mark slowly appeared over her head.
“Lawyer He?”
He Yining watched her coldly, wanting to say something yet not wanting her words to be misinterpreted as an interrogation.
She had taken off her trench coat by now; her long dress made her waist appear soft and slender enough to be held in one hand. The grace and elegance of her posture made one’s throat feel inexplicably dry.
Thinking that He Yining might go to Booth 001 in a bit, Ming Sian wondered about the situation inside. Normally, who knew if there would be men or other Alphas in there.
However, given He Yining’s status, surely no one would be hot-headed enough to dare flirt with her?
“When did you start this part-time job?” He Yining spoke slowly.
Ming Sian raised an eyebrow. “Does the firm have a regulation forbidding employees from taking part-time jobs?”
She didn’t need to report everything, did she? Thinking of He Yining’s identity in this bar, she forced her tone to sound less stiff.
“Lawyer He needn’t worry; I won’t let it interfere with the firm’s work.”
She added a sentence, trying to make her words less prickly.
He Yining sneered inwardly: Worry? Ridiculous.
During her nap, Ming Sian had appeared in her dreams again. In the dream, the two were entangled in passion, oblivious to the world.
Her dreams were like a serial drama; she and Ming Sian had experienced much together in them. It made her heart throb uncontrollably whenever she thought of Ming Sian. Developing feelings because of a dream? What an illusory thing.
If she and Ming Sian were destined to be entangled, and entangled so deeply, she would not only control Ming Sian but also make Ming Sian her most loyal dog.
The sweetness of the cherry rum from her dream gradually caused a burning heat in her body. The compatible pheromones and Ming Sian herself made her feel that as long as she didn’t lose her heart, it might not be bad to let everything follow the course of the dream.
Her gaze fell upon Ming Sian’s lips; the touch of those lips felt all too real. Undeniably, she enjoyed the moments when this person knelt before her.
Seeing Ming Sian talking to a waitress just now had sparked dark thoughts in He Yining’s heart: lock Ming Sian up, lock her away in a place where no one else could see her.
From then on, Ming Sian’s world would only consist of her.
Why should she be the only one sinking in the dreams while Ming Sian remained so carefree?
“As a lawyer, one must be cautious in words and deeds. Be affectionate, but do not be promiscuous.”
He Yining used an extreme coldness to freeze Ming Sian in place.
“What are you talking about?”
What “affectionate” or “promiscuous”? Ming Sian’s head was full of question marks. Was she talking about her?
He Yining looked at her coldly, with no intention of explaining.
Ming Sian’s brain whirred, trying to figure out what could have happened to make He Yining say that about her. Thinking it over, it had to be that confrontation she had with Number 1037 just now.
Given the distance and the noise of the bar, He Yining might not have heard the conversation. If Ming Sian put herself in He Yining’s position looking at her and 1037, it probably looked like she was trying to “kabedon” the girl.
So He Yining thought she was being promiscuous?
Ming Sian was practically laughed into anger. She was about to explain when she suddenly thought—why explain? She wanted to be a “bad woman” anyway. She wanted He Yining to misunderstand her as a “Scum Alpha” so she could successfully escape.
“Lawyer He must be joking. There’s nothing wrong with two single people having a bit of contact, is there? Besides, if it’s mutual, what is there to call promiscuous?”
A polite smile appeared on Ming Sian’s face. “If Lawyer He has nothing else, I’ll get back to work.”
Watching her intentionally straightened back, a trace of scrutiny appeared in He Yining’s cold eyes; she had no intention of letting her leave.
One could feel that He Yining’s mood was terrible, like a tug-of-war between black and white. One step forward was the light; one step back was the abyss. Yet, she had no intention of moving forward; she only wanted to lean back and enjoy the collision with the wind as she fell.
“Short on money?”
He Yining made no attempt to hide her humiliation; only Ming Sian’s brokenness could make her feel better.
Since she couldn’t make Ming Sian sink into her dreams, she would weave a dream in the real world, trapping Ming Sian in a massive spiderweb.
Ming Sian frowned; what did her being short on money have to do with He Yining? “If Lawyer He wants to do charity, you can simply tear up our contract.”
“That’s not impossible.”
He Yining narrowed her eyes, her gaze fixed on Ming Sian’s hands—well-defined, fair, and slender, exactly like the hands in her dream.
While Ming Sian was in shock, He Yining spoke slowly, her cold voice carrying a hint of seduction, like a proud cat lifting its head yet unable to resist letting out a “Meow~” to its master.
“Be my person, and the contract is destroyed.”
What?
Ming Sian was stunned, her breathing pausing for a second. Be what? No—He Yining really did have designs on her, and now she wasn’t even hiding it.
“Is Lawyer He joking?”
It was no joke. He Yining’s eyes held no warmth; they were like the moon—bright to look at, but actually cold and dark, carrying a queen-like haughtiness.
Ming Sian let out a dry laugh. “Eldest Miss, don’t play around. We aren’t the same kind of people.”
Her intuition told her He Yining was toying with her. Even if the words were true, it was likely just like in the novel—to have a shield.
Fate had still led He Yining to this decision; their entanglement formally began at this moment. Ming Sian sometimes really wanted to perish together with fate. She had lived twice only to be toyed with by fate again.
But on second thought, she hadn’t lived for herself in her previous life. Since she had a chance to live again, why not be firm in her choices? Once she got over this hurdle, she would be free.
Unless necessary, Ming Sian didn’t want any involvement with He Yining. Even though she wasn’t acting as “honest” as the original host, He Yining had still taken an interest in her.
He Yining’s patience was limited. When she spoke, it wasn’t for Ming Sian to refuse her, but seeing that clean face, she miraculously didn’t lose her temper. “You will agree.”
Once the words were out, she wouldn’t take them back.
Originally, she thought she could restrain herself and simply exercise control over Ming Sian, but she found herself somewhat addicted to the tipsy feeling of the rum on Ming Sian’s jacket.
Seeing Ming Sian smile at Cheng Cheng and talk to her with such familiarity had sparked dissatisfaction in her heart.
Upon learning that someone was pursuing Ming Sian, her first thought was also dissatisfaction—the feeling that her property was being coveted. Even if this property was just a useless artifact she had bought on a whim, it was hers, and no one could take it without her permission.
Ming Sian was a person, and one with a very strong subjective consciousness; forced control was useless. Thus, He Yining thought: get close to her, flirt with her, draw her in until she cannot extricate herself, and make her her most loyal dog.
As it turned out, He Yining didn’t have that much patience. The dream at noon had allowed her to enjoy the pleasure of being surrounded by cherry rum. Once she emerged from the dream, she had no intention of letting Ming Sian go.
She had hurried to the bar, but seeing Ming Sian standing with her pursuer, her patience vanished instantly. Her mindset shifted: even if it had to be by force, she had to be hers.
[Author’s Note]
Ming Sian: Do you even hear what you’re saying?
He Yining: You heard right. I want you!
