After the Cannon Fodder A Accidentally Marked the Paranoid Female Lead - Chapter 3
“Does the booth have suppressants? Or do I need to go out and buy some?”
Ming Sian could not stand by and watch a woman fall into an uncontrollable state, even if that woman wasn’t He Yining.
The pheromones in the booth were growing denser. She felt as if she were in a vast forest covered in heavy snow; the world had become silent and tranquil. The cedars in the forest stood tall and resolute despite the cold, and the sweet fragrance wafting from the resin made her want to draw closer.
She desperately wanted to take a deep breath; that feeling would surely be refreshing and sweet.
Ming Sian restrained the nearly uncontrollable thoughts in her mind and gripped her sleeves tightly; she didn’t quite understand the sensation of her body losing control.
Specifically, the back of her neck began to feel hot and swollen, like a searing burn from a fire.
Holding her breath, she shook her head forcefully and let out a low growl: “Speak!”
He Yining coldly picked up her expensive bag nearby. Her tone was calm, not looking like she was in heat at all, though Ming Sian didn’t notice.
“It’s inside.”
Ming Sian immediately opened the bag and found an exquisite wooden box with an openwork design. In the bag, only this wooden box looked like it might hold a suppressant. She hurried to open it; the cold air that rushed out cleared her mind significantly. A syringe filled with the suppressant lay quietly inside.
She handed the needle to He Yining, not noticing the other’s thoughtful gaze.
“Where do I inject?”
He Yining removed her small suit jacket, revealing the red camisole dress underneath. Her fair, smooth skin came into view, and Ming Sian’s pupils shook violently. At that moment, something burrowed into her heart, causing a wave of numbness.
Without the suit jacket, she looked delicate and thin; the lines of her shoulders and neck were elegantly traced against her pale skin.
The moisture caused by the pheromones in the air highlighted He Yining’s perceived weakness. Even so, she still projected an aura that made one afraid to touch her—a sense of a “forbidden zone” that signaled death to any intruder.
He Yining remained silent for a moment. Even someone who couldn’t afford suppressants knew how to administer them.
“Have you been vaccinated?”
The cold, detached voice momentarily eased the heat in Ming Sian’s glands. She didn’t say much; she first took a cotton ball to wipe the muscle of He Yining’s arm several times, then steadied her mind and calmly inserted the syringe into the muscle.
He Yining didn’t even flinch. Her eyes were fixed on the needle, watching her push the plunger.
Despite it being her first time using a suppressant, Ming Sian tried to be gentle, not pushing the plunger too quickly. It took a full five seconds to finish the injection.
The sensation of cool, soft skin remained on her fingertips. Even though He Yining’s skin had turned pink, that mere touch sent a numbing sensation from her fingertips through her whole body, and the pain at the back of her neck intensified.
Desire was intensifying, and her consciousness was gradually blurring; she felt as if she were being swallowed by something.
Get closer to her? Ming Sian’s gaze landed on the fair neck before her. She wanted to move toward the source of her loss of control.
The raging heat, the unyielding impulse, and… the urge to mark her.
“Ming Sian, look into my eyes!”
The icy voice woke her up. Ming Sian looked up abruptly; He Yining’s eyes were filled with endless cold, like a vast, uninhabited snowy field. If she dared to overstep, she would be exiled there until death, never to be free.
Ming Sian hurriedly scrambled up from the ground. Without realizing it, she had been kneeling before He Yining like a devoted pet dog. Damn it, He Yining’s tone just now sounded just like someone training a dog.
She ran quickly to the door, leaving only the sound of the door clicking shut.
“Bastard,” He Yining cursed softly under her breath.
After Ming Sian left, the Beta woman in the suit entered the booth. “Miss, she released her pheromones.”
Correct. The air was not only filled with He Yining’s pheromones but Ming Sian’s as well.
It was like cherry rum—a sweet liqueur tone that was slightly bitter, mellow, and high-end, carrying an inherent temptation and danger.
A glass of rum appeared in He Yining’s mind’s eye; a cherry sliding into iced rum, leaving behind a different kind of flair—charming yet restrained, sweet and intoxicating with the burning sensation of alcohol.
Ming Sian had released her pheromones—whether it was an intentional seduction or an accidental one.
Even after using the suppressant, He Yining’s drum-like heartbeat had not quieted. The hot, swollen feeling in her glands persisted; her blood was flowing faster and her rising body temperature forced her skin from cool white to pink.
The discomfort in her glands made her slightly irritable. “Ice water.”
The Beta quickly brought ice water and increased the ventilation system, making the air in the booth fresh in a very short time.
She then picked up the empty suppressant syringe from the sofa. “Miss, your heat cycle hasn’t actually arrived yet. Do you need to flush the suppressant?”
After drinking the ice water, He Yining calmed down. “It’s fine.”
She hadn’t expected Ming Sian to be ignorant of the fact that suppressants should be injected into the glands. Injecting it into the arm was slightly useful, but not very.
“Ali, tell the firm that Ming Sian is coming back to work tomorrow.”
Ali looked up in surprise. “What if Ming Sian doesn’t go?”
She didn’t know why the Miss had released pheromones while alone with Ming Sian. It was a very dangerous move; if it caused an Alpha to lose control and release pheromones wildly, it would drag the Omega into a shared state of frenzy.
There was a regulation in the law: an Alpha who releases pheromones in public or in front of an Omega they aren’t intimate with is not only immoral but will be given a verbal warning. If it causes chaos or results in consequences, the punishment ranges from detention and fines to life imprisonment.
However, because the Miss had released her pheromones first, Ming Sian was at most guilty of failing to control hers.
But if Ming Sian had tried to do something and then pretended to be “lured,” the consequences would have been enough to shake Hong Kong. Ali had been with the He family for years and was used to the filth of the upper circles and the unscrupulous methods of those trying to climb in.
“Ali.”
He Yining spoke, “I hope this is the last time you question me.”
She wouldn’t do anything she wasn’t certain of. Even releasing the pheromones was within her expectations; the only thing she couldn’t predict was what Ming Sian would do.
Would she take the opportunity to pounce, or would she run?
If it were the former, she would have disabled Ming Sian without hesitation. If the latter, it was just that. Yet Ming Sian chose to restrain herself and only left after finishing the injection.
An interesting idiot, kind to a fault.
She was truly curious: how would Ming Sian react if she found out suppressants were meant for the glands?
Ming Sian stumbled out of the booth to the dance area and pulled Cheng Cheng. “Something came up, I’m leaving.”
Without waiting for Cheng Cheng’s reaction, she ran out of the bar.
“Hey! Wait for me, Ming Sian! I’m coming with you!”
Outside the bar, Cheng Cheng finally caught up. “What happened? ‘The Royal’ said all our drinks tonight are free. Why the rush?”
Then she noticed Ming Sian’s face was abnormally red. “Are your pheromones in disorder?”
She quickly took a new suppressant patch from her bag and had Ming Sian apply it.
the cooling sensation spread from the glands through her whole body. She felt as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped on her, and she immediately cleared her head.
“What happened?” Cheng Cheng looked at her curiously.
Alphas and Omegas had to wear suppressant patches when going out, and they needed to be changed on time; otherwise, they lost their effect. They usually used one per day.
Ming Sian shook her head. “Nothing.”
She couldn’t exactly say she was affected by He Yining’s explosive pheromones. Every time she thought of that name, the image of that straight, slender back, the long swan-like neck, and that mesmerizing pheromone came to mind. What a bad woman.
Her first impression of He Yining was: high and mighty, yet alluring…
Just as Cheng Cheng was about to speak, she saw a familiar figure lying on the ground. “That piece of trash.”
Hmm? Ming Sian followed her gaze and saw the greasy Alpha lying on the ground like a dead man. This guy had been drunk in the bar, but not to the point of looking like a corpse.
“Are you curious about what happened?” Cheng Cheng bumped her shoulder.
She nodded obediently; after that ordeal, she didn’t even have the energy to speak.
“Didn’t you see the bar setting up the ‘Layered Waves’ earlier? It’s a fountain of endless wine. You can do a group challenge or an individual one. The individual record is 101 glasses. Anyone who breaks it gets a million-dollar prize. Today it was set up as an apology to the startled customers. The drinks were self-serve and free. You didn’t have to drink it all, but the culprit who caused the mess—this trash—had to keep drinking until he couldn’t take another drop.”
The philosophy of ‘The Royal’ bar was to protect every guest who came to play, whether they were nobility or wealthy; it was best to follow the bar’s rules.
Cheng Cheng added in a low voice: “This bar isn’t just as simple as the boss on the surface. The He family also has shares. Basically, no one dares to mess around here. This trash is a warning to let them know that a drunk person has no way to harass an Omega.”
Just like the greasy Alpha playing dead by the road; when truly drunk, it’s hard to even move a finger.
Ming Sian looked back at the bar. A bar that could protect the weak—no wonder her roommate wanted to work here.
“So, coming for the interview tomorrow?”
Cheng Cheng shrugged. “Sure. The cost of living in Hong Kong is too high; I can’t just rely on my family. But why do you want to leave He Yining’s firm? Look at you, quitting a job there just to work at a bar with me. Even as an assistant’s assistant, Anning Law Firm pays better than a bar!”
“Besides, we are law students. Entering a He-affiliated firm in our second year means you can stay in Hong Kong after graduation. Then you can find a way to save up for grad school and get your PCLL. I don’t know what you’re thinking.”
In her view, Ming Sian’s head must have been kicked by a donkey for her to resign.
Thinking of He Yining’s threat, Ming Sian said helplessly, “I’m going back to work tomorrow.”
Cheng Cheng: “? Did He Yining keep you alone just to convince you to stay?”
Probably not, but she didn’t understand why He Yining wanted her to stay at the firm either.
Cheng Cheng said huffily: “Good heavens, we’re both law students in Hong Kong, but the difference in treatment is too huge! Is this the power of a top student?”
“Kemeng Suppressant: Guarding your special periods.”
While her roommate was lamenting the injustice of fate, an advertisement at the tram stop caught Ming Sian’s attention. She watched the spokesperson inject the suppressant into the glands.
?
He Yining lied to her! That “dog woman”!
She now seriously suspected that He Yining had put on a show just to get her to come back to work.
What exactly was He Yining after?
[Author’s Note]
Ming Sian: I told you He Yining is a bad woman.
He Yining: Only an idiot would be tricked.
