After the Cannon Fodder A Accidentally Marked the Paranoid Female Lead - Chapter 9
Hong Kong is a metropolitan city dominated by concrete buildings. If you want to see greenery, you have to go hiking or to a park. The streets are lined with all sorts of unique doorplates, a special feature of Hong Kong.
Autumn in Hong Kong has a very nostalgic feel to it, with old shops everywhere, and it hasn’t changed much since the Hong Kong movies she used to watch as a child. Ming Si’an didn’t feel like a stranger in this new city; it felt more like the scenes from a movie were coming to life.
The sports car handled well. Buying a car in Hong Kong was a luxury for the rich. The high taxes and the parking space that cost as much as another car meant that even someone who made a million a year might not choose to buy a car, let alone a luxury car worth two million.
The car was similar to an AMG GT. The exterior design wasn’t as low as a typical sports car; the overall design was aggressive, and the body lines were very powerful. It looked sporty and fashionable. The black color made it look intimidating, and the interior was high-tech. Its performance was also very strong. Compared to other rich people in the same class, it was much more understated.
Ming Si’an was a good driver. In her past life, she went from owning a used Volkswagen to finally owning an A6, which she bought to meet clients and increase their trust. For many people, a car represents their reputation. For a regular office worker, a simple car for daily commuting would do. Even though she preferred riding a motorcycle, they weren’t restricted in the small town where she used to live.
She preferred the feeling of the wind on her face, so she opened the roof of the car to avoid the awkward atmosphere that might spread in a confined space, even though it was already pretty awkward.
In fact, He Yiling’s appearance fit her aesthetic perfectly: cool, intellectual, and an effortless beauty. She was calm and composed in every movement and was very capable. Her resume showed she graduated from Hong Kong University, went to England for a year to get a dual degree in business law, and then returned to Hong Kong to intern at a He-affiliated law firm, where she obtained her PCLL. She was then parachuted into Anling Law Firm as the boss and handled a major case. She was the elite of the elite.
If it weren’t for their fateful entanglement, she would have stayed at Anling Law Firm for at least ten years. The high salary, various subsidies, and being part of a large law firm would have been great for her resume.
Unfortunately, a cannon fodder who gets close to the female lead will die.
Ming Si’an secretly glanced at her, wondering what she could do to annoy her enough to fire her.
She came up with an answer: she would pursue He Yiling. With her conditions, no matter how good-looking she was, as long as she acted overly confident, greasy, and flirtatious, He Yiling, even if she did want to use her as a shield, would probably give up and might even tell her to get lost sooner.
“How long have you liked me, Lawyer He?” Ming Si’an went all in, wanting to see He Yiling’s reaction.
From their short interactions, He Yiling always had a cold face. The only time she showed any other emotion was in the private room when both of their pheromones were slightly out of control.
After hearing her words, He Yiling froze for a moment, clearly speechless. She wanted to say something, but she was afraid that Ming Si’an would take it as an invitation to go further.
What gave Ming Si’an, who looked like a respectable person, the confidence to say such a thing?
She didn’t ask if she liked her; she assumed she did and went straight to asking how long.
He Yiling’s eyes narrowed slightly, and she looked at Ming Si’an with a scrutinizing gaze. Her long-held position of power gave her an innate sense of dominance.
“Where do you get your confidence?”
Ming Si’an didn’t back down. “From you, of course, Lawyer He. Everything that’s happened since we met shows your liking for me. I’m a person who welcomes anyone, and besides, Lawyer He… oh, Yiling, you’re so beautiful and excellent. There’s no reason for me to refuse you.”
Perhaps because of the intimate way she said her name, He Yiling frowned. She turned on the music, and a cool, low melody played, soothing her anger.
She was always a calm person. How could Ming Si’an so easily provoke her? A qualified third-generation member of the He family couldn’t show her emotions, and if she did, it was only to achieve a goal.
Ming Si’an’s goal was to make her angry, so she wasn’t going to let up.
So, Ming Si’an spoke again. “I don’t like to be in a relationship, but I can keep things casual with you. Holding hands, kissing… all good. No feelings, though.”
Her words were too explicit. If He Yiling still didn’t get angry, she would truly start to wonder if He Yiling liked her.
By all accounts, even if He Yiling hadn’t awakened to the plot, she wouldn’t want to use trash like her as a shield.
If she were He Yiling, she would have at least cursed at her, if not beaten her up.
He Yiling suddenly grabbed her hand and turned the steering wheel, causing the car to swerve into another lane.
Ming Si’an quickly pulled her hand away from He Yiling’s, steadied the steering wheel, slowed down, and stepped on the brake.
“Are you crazy!”
Luckily, He Yiling lived in a gated community, and there were fewer and fewer cars as they drove closer. Otherwise, who knew what would have happened.
He Yiling looked at her with a cold expression, as if nothing had happened. A cold smile hung on her lips. “Can’t handle it?”
Crazy? Playing with my life?
Ming Si’an took a deep breath. “He Yiling, Miss He, we are not from the same world. If you want to play, find someone else.”
“Then don’t do anything extra.” He Yiling’s gaze and tone were devoid of emotion, like a cold machine looking at another machine.
Letting Ming Si’an drive her was a coincidence. She wanted her to know that she should stay under her watchful eye and not make any unnecessary struggles.
A variable from another world. To prevent this variable from becoming true, it was better to keep her close. First, suppress her, and if that doesn’t work, she can give her a new identity.
Ming Si’an’s look and actions right now were like a young wolf that refused to be tamed by humans, wanting to escape its master’s grasp and yearning for freedom.
If necessary, He Yiling would take action to train the young wolf into a loyal dog.
Ming Si’an didn’t understand. What did she mean by “unnecessary struggles”? She didn’t want to stay at Anling Law Firm and wanted to have her own freedom. Was that considered unnecessary?
“What do you want?” He Yiling wouldn’t even let her escape.
“Keep driving.” He Yiling’s voice was calm. “What I do depends on how well-behaved you are.”
Depends on her being well-behaved? She was treating her like a pet!
Images of a master training a dog appeared in Ming Si’an’s mind. She was so angry her teeth were itching. This bad woman was so infuriating.
“Miss He, if you want to play, there are plenty of people who would be willing to.”
“Play? Ming Si’an, why do you keep saying I’m playing?”
The car’s roof was already closed. He Yiling looked at her own reflection in the car window and then at Ming Si’an’s reflection with an emotionless gaze.
Ming Si’an floored the gas pedal, and the car went faster. “Is it so hard to just let me go?”
He Yiling gave her a look that said, “You’re so naive.”
“The contract has been signed. The He conglomerate isn’t a charity.”
Ming Si’an was speechless. So that really was the reason. She had thought He Yiling was lying to her… No, at least half of it was a lie.

Ming Si’an: Someone, please stop this woman.
