After The Cannon Fodder Died, She Became The Female Lead’s White Moonlight (GL) - Chapter 14
The two returned home, and Shen Sijin took out all the purchased items.
Che Gulai had rarely gone out and had walked too much, making her legs a little uncomfortable. She sat on the sofa, watching Shen Sijin organize everything.
Shen Sijin placed all the purchased fruits on the table. Che Gulai glanced at them and casually asked, “Why are all the fruits green?”
Green dates, green grapes, green oranges—all green.
“Don’t you love eating them?” Shen Sijin replied while putting the fruits back into the refrigerator.
“What?” Che Gulai didn’t understand.
Shen Sijin turned around and smiled. “Don’t you know? You seem to have a fondness for green fruits. I noticed the fruits you’ve picked before were all green, so I assumed that.”
Che Gulai hadn’t realized this herself. Thinking about it, the fruits she had eaten recently were indeed mostly green. She simply thought the color green looked nice and was more appetizing.
This little detail had never been noticed by anyone, including herself, but now her sworn enemy had discovered it.
Was it a coincidence?
Che Gulai was quite surprised.
She remained silent. Shen Sijin thought she had misunderstood and asked anxiously, “What’s wrong? You don’t like them, do you…?”
“No,” Che Gulai pursed her lips, her tone indifferent.
“That scared me! I thought you didn’t like them.” She smiled again, relieved. “How about I put these fruits in your room?”
“Aren’t you going to eat them?” Che Gulai took a sip of water and asked casually.
“Ah,” Shen Sijin said. “I don’t like fruits with seeds.”
Che Gulai didn’t dwell on it and just answered with an “Mhm.”
Shen Sijin had bought quite a lot of things, but most of it was for Che Gulai: fruits, various medications and supplements, ointment for leg pain, and scar removal cream. Che Gulai had quite a few scars from the car accident. Shen Sijin had seen them once and thought they were truly unsightly, so she had specifically bought scar removal medicine this time.
There were also Che Gulai’s pajamas. Shen Sijin was tall, so her pajamas were too big and ill-fitting for Che Gulai. In addition to that, there were various winter clothes, all bought for her.
Che Gulai hadn’t understood why she bought so many unnecessary things, like a spendthrift.
Thinking about it now, they were all bought for her.
Looking around, there wasn’t a single item Shen Sijin had bought for herself.
Ha.
What is this lunatic thinking?
Does she think this kind of behavior is touching?
Absolutely not.
Frankly, Che Gulai found this kind of self-sacrificing goodwill meaningless. Shen Sijin had no idea what Che Gulai actually wanted, and she was completely self-absorbed in her attempts.
She looked at Shen Sijin. She was focused, looking down with her eyes, and seemed to be in a good mood, a faint smile on her lips. Her fluffy short hair made her face look young and sweet.
She was likely exposed to the wind, as she occasionally covered her mouth and coughed a few times, but quickly returned to her sweet, bright, and obedient look, busily sorting the purchased items.
Shen Sijin wasn’t like this before.
The first time Che Gulai saw Shen Sijin was at her school. At the time, she was giving a speech at her alma mater and met her in the lounge.
Back then, Shen Sijin was frail and thin, wearing a black hoodie that made her face look even paler. Although she was good-looking, her complexion was gloomy and pale, and she was so thin that she looked unsettling.
She had deliberately chosen a time when no one was around, suddenly grabbed Che Gulai’s neck, and demanded why it had to be her, why Zhou Zi liked her.
Her expression was maniacal, her eyes ferocious, looking exactly like a madwoman who had escaped from a mental hospital.
After that, the girl seemed to have sworn vengeance on her, determined to ruin her life. She once threw a flowerpot from a height when Che Gulai was negotiating outside, suddenly rushed in front of Che Gulai’s car, and even secretly hid sulfuric acid, lurking in her company with the intention of destroying her face with it. Fortunately, Che Gulai dodged quickly, only getting a small amount on the back of her hand, but it left a coin-sized scar that was still there today.
Che Gulai had experienced a lot of malice since childhood, and Shen Sijin wasn’t the only one, but she was undoubtedly the most insane, even more so than the two men, Zhou Zi and Chen Youfan.
Che Gulai was extremely annoyed, despising this kind of parasitic lunatic. She had once thought about eliminating Shen Sijin secretly, but she never got around to it. She was too busy dealing with the other two men and didn’t have time to handle her.
And now it had come to this: she was forced to temporarily stay in Shen Sijin’s house. There were too many lunatics outside. Che Gulai didn’t want to leave for the time being. Instead of dealing with so many psychos at once, it was better to just stay in this room and face only one.
But the current Shen Sijin was completely incomprehensible. She was innocent and docile, like a rabbit. It seemed like raising her voice slightly could make her cry. Her mind was as simple as a little princess in an ivory tower.
Multiple personality disorder?
Che Gulai suddenly entertained this thought.
Forget it.
There was no point in dwelling on this.
No matter how Shen Sijin changed, the things she had done to her in the past wouldn’t change.
She could deal with Shen Sijin slowly.
She was vengeful, a petty person who only remembered hatred.
Even if Shen Sijin was kind and gentle now, in Che Gulai’s eyes, she was still the same neurotic lunatic who had once tried to kill her.
Shen Sijin’s cooking was still unappetizing, but Che Gulai had perhaps grown used to it. She could eat the overly salty scrambled eggs with tomatoes without changing her expression.
Shen Sijin had a poor appetite and couldn’t eat much for a long time; eating too much made her want to vomit. Therefore, she only ate a little, then took her bowl to feed the puppy by her seat.
“What’s the dog’s name?” Che Gulai suddenly asked. The puppy looked quite similar to a dog one of her deceased acquaintances used to keep.
“You mean the puppy? It doesn’t have a name,” Shen Sijin replied softly and gently, looking down. “It’s just called ‘Puppy’.”
“Hmm?”
“Giving it a name is strange. If you give it a name, it’s like it’s really a pet,” Shen Sijin said earnestly. “‘Puppy’ is just ‘Puppy.’ It’s an independent being, not my pet.”
Che Gulai: “…”
“It’s just a dog,” Che Gulai said flatly. “So particular.”
Shen Sijin smiled, looking up at her, her pupils filled with tiny shards of light. “Isn’t that true?”
Che Gulai met her gaze. They stared at each other for a few seconds. Che Gulai was perhaps unaccustomed to the purity in her eyes and turned away first, replying coldly, “I wouldn’t know.”
Shen Sijin smiled again. She seemed to really love smiling.
“What are you smiling at?” Che Gulai frowned.
“I thought you would call me a psycho,” Shen Sijin’s eyes curved into crescents. “Someone else once called me crazy because of this, but you didn’t.”
Che Gulai remembered that Shen Sijin wasn’t a smiling person. Her constant smiling now annoyed her, making it seem like she was doing well and felt no remorse or anxiety for the malicious acts she had committed in the past.
It was truly sickening.
Of course, Che Gulai wanted to ask her if she was a psycho, but she didn’t say it.
She curved her lips slightly, pulling out a beautiful and gentle expression, though her eyes held no hint of a smile.
“That’s a good thought.”
Che Gulai was seemingly complimenting her, like humoring a child.
Shen Sijin believed her, her eyes lighting up. “Right? You think so too. They just didn’t understand me.”
She smiled so innocently, truly like a child who was easily satisfied after being appeased. Seeing her smile, Che Gulai grew more expectant of whether this bright face would still be able to smile later and whether she could maintain this innocence.
The thought of Shen Sijin’s once expectant, joyful face shattering into an expression of agonizing despair gave Che Gulai’s malicious pleasure immense satisfaction.
What was Shen Sijin anyway?
Just a fool who only knew how to satisfy her immediate happiness and was ignorant of the pain to come.
Shen Sijin’s eyes curved.
“Che Gulai, it turns out you’re the one who understands me.”
Shen Sijin’s mind was like a white flower. Kindness was distant and vague to her, making her a blind person unable to distinguish between truth and falsehood, only seeing the poisonous snake next to her as a gentle, affectionate puppy tail.
A butterfly brought color to her desolate heart. She felt acknowledged, that someone cared about her words and wouldn’t insult her. This was such a wonderful thing.
She picked up the puppy. “I’m going to take the puppy out to sunbathe in the yard. You eat well. I’ll clean up later.”
Shen Sijin held the puppy’s paw and made a waving gesture, her smile charming. “It was very nice chatting with you. Eat slowly.”
Che Gulai had been very annoyed these past few days because she discovered that Shen Sijin, this stupid woman, really loved to talk.
She was going crazy, always wanting to chatter beside her, even rambling on for over an hour before sleeping.
Most of the topics were incomprehensible to Che Gulai. Shen Sijin’s topics ranged from a tiny detail like an ant moving house to the absurd idea of wanting to see the universe—it was all messy and boring.
Che Gulai, who usually suffered from insomnia, had actually found her sleep unexpectedly improving because of Shen Sijin’s constant chatter at night.
She wasn’t sure if this was a good thing or not.
Shen Sijin was unaware of Che Gulai’s annoyance. She was simply happy because that woman hadn’t followed her for days, the tinnitus rarely occurred, and the things she had longed for—being understood and having company—were now surrounding her.
She was naturally happy.
And all of this was because of Che Gulai.
Perhaps initially, she was deliberately trying to please her to avoid the original owner’s fate. But these past few days, she felt that Che Gulai was actually a very good female lead, and she didn’t seem to hate her anymore.
Shen Sijin liked being around her. Although Che Gulai was often cold and quiet, Shen Sijin was used to it.
Ultimately, the most fundamental reason was that Shen Sijin felt very safe when Che Gulai was near, and talking to her was also comforting.
She was naturally a talkative person around those close to her.
A few days later, Sister Che suddenly asked the now-silent Xiao Jin:
“Why don’t you talk anymore?”
But why Xiao Jin no longer talked, who knew?
