After The Cannon Fodder Died, She Became The Female Lead’s White Moonlight (GL) - Chapter 18
Shen Sijin waited a few days, and the watch was finally fixed. The first thing she wanted to do was return the watch to Che Gulai.
She sent Che Gulai a message, asking when she was free.
Che Gulai hadn’t replied. Although the two had exchanged contact information, they hadn’t really chatted much. Che Gulai wouldn’t initiate a conversation with her, and Shen Sijin initially typed away furiously in the chat box, but in the end, she only sent a few greeting emojis, which Che Gulai unfortunately didn’t reply to.
Shen Sijin felt awkward and stopped sending messages later on.
She was a little nervous, afraid Che Gulai wouldn’t reply.
After about one or two hours, Che Gulai finally sent back a simple “Mhm.”
Shen Sijin picked up the watch, pursed her lips into a smile, and headed to Che Gulai’s company.
CG Entertainment Headquarters.
Che Gulai looked at the man in front of her, her heart filled with vexation.
“Zhou Zi, what are you doing here again? I remember warning you not to look for me.”
Zhou Zi had one hand in his pocket, his expression arrogant, yet deliberately feigning a gentle demeanor. “Gulai, why do you keep avoiding me? I like you, why can’t we just talk properly?”
Che Gulai crossed her arms and scoffed. “Who do you think you are? I wish you would just stay far away from me.”
A hint of viciousness flashed in Zhou Zi’s eyes, but he maintained a smooth tone. “Gulai, wouldn’t it be good to be with me? I can give you everything you want. No one in this world loves you more than I do. Why don’t you understand?”
Che Gulai felt sick to her stomach, her expression icy.
“You love me?” She sneered, her expression terrifyingly cold. “Locking me in your villa, not letting me out to see people, making me miss my most important competition—is that love?”
Zhou Zi showed no remorse. “That was because you kept rejecting me, Gulai. I told you, I love you. Everything about you belongs to me, including your eyes, which should only look at me.”
Che Gulai’s features were like the snow-capped mountains in March, her eyes pitch black, like two deep, dark caverns, profound and cold.
She would never forget what Zhou Zi had done to her.
When she was in university, he locked her in his villa, preventing her from leaving or talking to anyone other than him, not even the maids.
She wanted to escape, but Zhou Zi even double-locked the doors and windows. Che Gulai loathed this life of confinement, just like when her mother used to lock her up. She hated it to the extreme.
During that time, she had a very important competition. If she won, she would receive a large cash prize.
She was poor and helpless back then. Her only friend was just as impoverished and lonely as she was, and seriously ill.
She thought that with that prize money, she could buy the best medical equipment for her friend and cover the medical expenses.
But she missed it. During the time Zhou Zi forcibly kept her confined in the villa, her friend’s heart condition flared up, and she died in their rented apartment.
If she had been at the apartment then, perhaps her friend wouldn’t have died.
Therefore, she thoroughly hated Zhou Zi, this arrogant and self-centered scum.
“Zhou Zi,” Che Gulai said coldly. “If you want me to like you, give up. Sooner or later, I will utterly ruin you.”
The rage inside Zhou Zi could no longer be suppressed. He gritted his teeth and roared, “Che Gulai! What more do you want from me? That woman was terminally ill anyway. She wouldn’t have lived much longer! Why do you blame all the mistakes on me?”
Che Gulai didn’t speak, just watched him with calm indifference.
Zhou Zi’s handsome face became slightly twisted. He was always revered by others. No one had ever challenged his boundaries so brazenly as Che Gulai.
His resentment flared up, and he raised his hand as if to strike her.
Che Gulai’s expression remained unfazed, still aloof, watching Zhou Zi’s movement without blinking.
Shen Sijin arrived at Che Gulai’s company, followed someone’s directions to the top floor, and immediately heard the sound of arguing in the distance.
It sounded like Che Gulai’s voice.
She followed the sound to a secluded hallway and saw the exact moment Zhou Zi raised his hand.
Shen Sijin instinctively ran forward, grabbed Che Gulai’s hand, pulled her back, and positioned herself in front of her.
Zhou Zi’s attack missed. He was furious and embarrassed. “Who the hell are you?”
Realizing who the person in front of him was, he sneered. “It’s you? You actually found your way here? You really put a lot of thought into stalking me.”
This was the first time Shen Sijin had directly faced the male lead. She genuinely couldn’t understand why the original owner was so obsessed with an arrogant man like Zhou Zi.
“What were you trying to do to Che Gulai just now?” Shen Sijin was tall, without a significant height difference from the male lead. But because her figure was thin and slender, she looked delicate and fragile in front of him, like a sycamore next to thin bamboo.
Zhou Zi laughed, as if he had heard something funny.
“You psycho are even defending Che Gulai now? What, is this a new way to get my attention?”
Che Gulai was surprised by Shen Sijin’s arrival and also wanted to see what the frail and innocent Shen Sijin would do.
“No,” Shen Sijin answered honestly.
Zhou Zi roared at her. “Then why are you acting crazy?! Get lost!”
“If you’re going to bully her, I can’t leave.” After speaking, Shen Sijin covered her mouth and coughed violently several times. Her spine bent slightly, and involuntary tears welled up, lending an air of delicate innocence to her words.
“Psycho.” Zhou Zi couldn’t be bothered with her. He pushed her shoulder, trying to shove her aside.
Shen Sijin was stubborn. She stood her ground in front of Che Gulai and refused to move, accusing him fiercely, “Why don’t you understand what I’m saying? Are your ears broken?”
Although her tone was fierce, paired with her moist eyes and soft voice, it wasn’t intimidating at all.
She sounded like a kitten pretending to be fierce.
Che Gulai couldn’t help but let out a very slight laugh. The smile was faint, fleeting, and she quickly reverted to her cold demeanor, as if the smile had been an illusion.
Zhou Zi found Shen Sijin utterly annoying. Since Che Gulai clearly wouldn’t talk to him properly now, Zhou Zi decided not to stay. He glared at Shen Sijin and left.
“What do you want?” Che Gulai pushed open the nearby door and went inside.
Shen Sijin followed her in, placing the watch on the desk. “I fixed your watch.”
Che Gulai glanced at it casually, then withdrew her gaze without interest. She sat in the office chair and tilted her head, asking, “You came all this way just for this?”
Shen Sijin held her hands behind her back. She was wearing very thick clothing today—a long down jacket and a red scarf—bundled up tightly.
She seemed to be very sensitive to the cold.
Che Gulai, however, only wore a chiffon embroidered shirt under a long trench coat, looking sharp and refined.
She tilted her head. Her shirt wasn’t properly buttoned, revealing a glimpse of her delicate, beautiful collarbone. Shen Sijin glanced at it, felt an inexplicable blush, and looked away.
“I want to ask you…” Shen Sijin said awkwardly. “What is the relationship between you and that man just now?”
Although Shen Sijin knew Zhou Zi was the male lead and would ultimately end up with the female lead—which should have been a given—she was inexplicably unhappy.
Her heart felt sour, like it was filled with many lemons, astringent and swollen. She couldn’t describe the feeling, only that it was very uncomfortable.
“Why are you asking?” Che Gulai said expressionlessly. “What does it have to do with you?”
“I was just asking…” Shen Sijin blinked her eyes, her earlobes bright red. She looked away at the floor, stammering. “Can’t I?”
“There’s no relationship,” Che Gulai said. She found Shen Sijin’s demeanor a little strange but couldn’t pinpoint why.
Shen Sijin heard the answer she wanted. Her eyes brightened, and a smile unconsciously curved her lips. The initial sourness in her heart was suddenly flooded with sweetness.
“What are you giggling about?” Che Gulai frowned, wondering what new craziness this woman was up to now.
Shen Sijin shook her head. “I’m not smiling.”
Che Gulai: “…”
She felt completely unable to understand the mental state of young students.
“If there’s nothing else, you can leave,” Che Gulai said, feeling a headache watching her silly smile. She waved her hand, signaling her to go.
“Ah, but I haven’t finished yet,” Shen Sijin didn’t want to leave so soon.
Che Gulai said coldly, “Say it all at once.”
“Could you please not ignore my messages?” Shen Sijin leaned her hands on the table, staring straight at her, asking with hopeful expectation.
Che Gulai sometimes genuinely couldn’t face Shen Sijin’s clear, bright eyes. Just then, someone knocked on the door. Che Gulai intended to get rid of her and replied perfunctorily, “Got it.”
Shen Sijin was satisfied. Her dimples faintly showed. She walked to the door with her bag, then suddenly turned back.
“Che Gulai, the New Year is coming soon. Happy New Year in advance.”
After saying that, she made a waving gesture, her eyes curved, looking innocent and youthful.
Che Gulai’s expression was as cold as ever.
Xiao Xu witnessed the entire exchange and couldn’t believe her eyes.
What was that?
Why was Shen Sijin in Ms. Che’s office, and why was she smiling and giving New Year wishes?
It was the same back in the small town.
Since when did their relationship become so good?
What did I miss?
Xiao Xu watched Shen Sijin leave, dumbfounded.
“Ms. Che.”
Che Gulai was fiddling with the watch Shen Sijin had brought. It was perfectly repaired, with hardly any sign of damage. This kind of watch was very difficult to fix. To have it repaired this well, Shen Sijin must have put a lot of effort into it.
She recalled Shen Sijin’s thin, pale face. She seemed to have lost a lot of weight recently.
What on earth was this woman thinking?
She couldn’t understand her.
Che Gulai only glanced at the watch before casually tossing it into a corner, like throwing away garbage. She paid it no further attention.
Xiao Xu was reporting on work matters, and several times, she almost asked Che Gulai about her relationship with Shen Sijin, but she didn’t dare.
After the report, Xiao Xu left.
Che Gulai rubbed her brow, her gaze catching the watch tossed in the corner.
After a second of silence, she walked over, picked up the watch, and moved it from the corner of the sofa to the corner of the cabinet. After that, she couldn’t be bothered to look at it again, paying it no mind.
