After The Cannon Fodder Died, She Became The Female Lead’s White Moonlight (GL) - Chapter 21
Although she had decided to pursue Che Gulai, Shen Sijin had no idea how to actually do it. When in doubt, she asked questions, so her first move was to consult Bai Mingyu.
“How about you start by winning her over with delicious food?” Bai Mingyu, lying in bed playing a game, replied after some thought.
“But she said my cooking is bad,” Shen Sijin stood by her bed, glumly knocking her head against the headboard, over and over.
“Then go learn!” Bai Mingyu won the game. She put down her phone and pondered seriously. “Think about whether she has any favorite desserts. Desserts are so romantic.”
Shen Sijin thought for a moment. “Snowflake Crisps?”
“Then go learn that, and a few other things too. Captivate her stomach with desserts.”
“Will that work?” Shen Sijin started knocking her head against Bai Mingyu’s headboard again, feeling a lack of confidence. “What if she doesn’t like it?”
“How will you know if you don’t try? Hey, my dear, stop knocking, you’ll knock yourself silly.”
“Okay.” Shen Sijin made up her mind, secretly clenching her fist. “I’ll give it a try.”
Bai Mingyu thought her serious expression was utterly adorable. She couldn’t help but burst out laughing, giving her a fist bump. “I wish you success.”
Shen Sijin was quick to act and immediately started learning how to make desserts. Surprisingly, she was quite talented at dessert making, much better than her culinary skills for regular cooking.
Bai Mingyu became her guinea pig and was sometimes shocked by her skill.
“Not bad, you know. It tastes almost like the ones from the shop,” Bai Mingyu praised her.
Shen Sijin couldn’t help but smile. “Really?”
“Absolutely.” Bai Mingyu gave her a thumbs-up. “Trust me, it’s very good. Sister Gulai will definitely love it.”
“Sister Gulai, this is from that girl again.” Xiao Xu placed the gift box on her desk.
“What is it this time?” Che Gulai rubbed her forehead in annoyance.
“Uh—Cream chocolate pie,” Xiao Xu answered honestly.
“I won’t eat it. Take it away.”
“Ah,” Xiao Xu looked conflicted. “Wouldn’t that be rude? She sent it to you, and it seems she made it herself.”
Che Gulai waved her hand impatiently, dismissing her.
Che Gulai looked at the exquisitely packaged gift box, feeling speechless.
Shen Sijin had been acting crazy for the past few days, suddenly sending her desserts. Every day was a different one, sent with unwavering consistency.
As a result, everyone in the company was curious about this “Shen Sijin” character, often discussing her behind her back.
Once, she heard employees speculating about who Shen Sijin was to her.
Terms like “sister,” “close friend,” and other intimate terms popped up. Some even suggested it looked like Shen Sijin was pursuing her, which Che Gulai found utterly ridiculous.
Che Gulai’s first reaction was pure rejection.
She rejected any term of intimacy linking her to Shen Sijin.
Her voice was low and heavy. “Don’t you all have anything better to do?”
The employees were startled. Seeing her icy expression, they immediately fell silent. After that, although people were curious, they didn’t dare to discuss it again.
Che Gulai looked at the gift box, her eyes shadowed. She stared at it without a word for several minutes, then picked up the box and threw it into a cabinet.
Inside were all the desserts Shen Sijin had sent. Not a single one had been touched. Some were already soft and collapsing. These delicate sweets were tossed into the corner of the cabinet, meaningless, like dusty old newspapers.
Che Gulai’s phone rang.
It was a message from Shen Sijin.
[Did you receive the dessert? Did you like this particular kind?]
Che Gulai typed a reply.
[Why are you sending things like this? Reason.]
It took the other side over ten minutes to reply.
[I wanted to make it for you. Is that not allowed?]
Although the text was cold, Che Gulai could almost picture Shen Sijin speaking to her in a shy, aggrieved tone.
Che Gulai wasn’t a fool. Shen Sijin’s abnormal behavior these past few days was strange; it wasn’t the way ordinary friends interacted.
What was she up to?
Desserts one day, inviting her to a butterfly exhibition the next.
A suspicion dimly formed in her mind, but she immediately dismissed it as too absurd and preposterous.
Although she didn’t know what Shen Sijin was thinking, Che Gulai, despite her annoyance, felt a malicious glee.
The more Shen Sijin cared about her, the deeper the pain would be later.
Zhou Zi was already at his wit’s end, and Shen Sijin was also slowly walking into her trap. Only Chen Youfan remained.
She would slowly pay back everyone who had ever wronged her.
Che Gulai was filled with a sense of triumph, the satisfaction of a villain succeeding.
She picked up her phone and replied with an icy expression.
[It is allowed.]
[I like the dessert very much.]
On the other end, Shen Sijin was so happy she almost jumped. She hurried over to shake Bai Mingyu’s bed.
“Mingyu, look, look! She said she likes my dessert!” Shen Sijin’s happiness was undisguised, like a child who had been praised.
“Really? Let me see.” Bai Mingyu leaned over the bed to look at Shen Sijin’s phone, equally delighted for her. “Yes! This is a good start!”
Being acknowledged by the person you like felt truly wonderful.
It was as if countless flowers were blooming in her heart, creating a vibrant spring.
“My heart is beating so fast, Mingyu.” Shen Sijin covered her flushed face, a relentless smile on her lips. “No one has ever liked anything I made before.”
Before, many people only felt that anything associated with her was unlucky.
She was right to like Che Gulai.
Shen Sijin was completely swept away. She had utterly forgotten that she was merely a supporting character, and entirely forgotten the fact that the female lead and male lead were meant to be a couple in the novel.
This was the first time she had liked someone this much. She wasn’t thinking about anything except wanting to be with her.
Regardless of her status or gender.
Over the next few days, Shen Sijin continued to make her all sorts of desserts.
In addition to that, she was busy with another task.
She was making a specimen of a Blue Morpho butterfly. It was a specimen she adored. The wing surface was a silvery blue, and the veins had a faint silver metallic sheen. The entire specimen was magnificent and beautiful.
She loved butterflies; they were beautiful and free.
Shen Sijin planned to place the specimen inside a music box, so when the music played, the butterfly would flutter.
But the process was extremely difficult. The morpho butterfly’s scales would fall off, and installation was not easy. One wrong move and the butterfly’s wings could be damaged.
Bai Mingyu tried to make her give up several times, but Shen Sijin was stubborn and firmly refused to quit, staying up late every night to work.
She had to finish it before Sunday.
And then give the butterfly she loved to Che Gulai.
Sunday arrived quickly. Shen Sijin, afraid Che Gulai would forget, bombarded her with messages.
Che Gulai was exasperated and finally threatened her with, [One more message and I’ll block you.], which finally made Shen Sijin quiet down for a bit.
[Then don’t forget our appointment.] Shen Sijin sent one last message, unwilling to give up.
[Mhm.]
On Sunday, Shen Sijin woke up early and dragged Bai Mingyu to help her with makeup and choosing clothes.
Bai Mingyu was exhausted from running around for her.
“Perfect,” Bai Mingyu looked at Shen Sijin with satisfaction. “You are super pretty, absolutely like a doll.”
Shen Sijin’s complexion was usually pale, always giving her a sickly look. Bai Mingyu deliberately applied a little blush to her face and some lip gloss. This hid the frailty, making her look like a fresh, young peach.
Her hair was tied into two loose, low buns resting on her shoulders, making her look both fluffy and casual.
She was already naturally cute, and with a little dressing up, a wave of pure sweetness emanated from her.
“Xiao Jin, you look adorable,” Bai Mingyu couldn’t help but be amazed.
Shen Sijin usually didn’t wear makeup and felt a bit uncomfortable wearing it now.
Bai Mingyu cheered her on. “Stop being so timid. Be confident.”
Shen Sijin nodded, saying seriously, “Okay, I will.”
She put the gift into her bag and left the dorm.
Along the way, she felt like people were watching her. Unlike that woman’s cold gaze, these looks seemed to hold no malice; they even seemed to carry a hint of admiration.
When she arrived at the butterfly exhibition hall, Shen Sijin spotted Che Gulai immediately.
She was tall and slender, with a gorgeous appearance, leaning against a streetlamp and looking down at her phone, her expression indifferent. She seemed out of place among the surrounding people, carrying an air of cool, distant detachment.
She was someone who would be noticed instantly in a crowd.
Shen Sijin’s heart began to beat rapidly again.
“Che Gulai,” Shen Sijin ran up to her. “I’m sorry, I’m a little late.”
“Why so slow?” Che Gulai looked up from her phone at the person speaking.
Her pupils unconsciously contracted slightly, and a fleeting hint of surprise, extremely faint, flashed in her eyes.
But this unusual expression vanished as quickly as a flash of light, as if it had never been there.
She put away her phone, put her hands in her pockets, turned around, and said flatly, “Let’s finish quickly.”
Shen Sijin followed closely. “Wait for me.”
