After the Early-Deceased White Moonlight of a Wealthy Family Returns (GL) - Chapter 6
Shen You’an regretted it.
She lowered her head, afraid to look up, her hands intertwined, her right hand nervously fiddling with the light blue sports watch strap on her left wrist.
“Sister Su, about that… how about I sleep on the sofa?” She kept her gaze fixed on the floor, her voice thin as silk, her face flushed red like a tomato.
When she first returned, Su Wu said she had packed dinner for her. Shen You’an was delighted, but after eating heartily, she started to feel the effects of a “carb coma.” Yawning incessantly, she was extremely sleepy.
Seeing her state, Su Wu considerately suggested she rest early.
Shen You’an nodded repeatedly and prepared for bed after washing up.
But when she pushed open the bedroom door, she saw Su Wu with one shoulder half-exposed. She had taken off the imposing suit set from the day and changed into a light purple silk slip dress.
Hearing the movement from the bathroom, Su Wu turned her head and casually adjusted the shoulder strap, hiding the fullness of her chest beneath the fabric. Her skin was creamy and white, like snow. Furthermore, every line on Su Wu’s body demonstrated the effort she put into physical training. She was soft yet not delicate, and the hotel room lighting draped a thin veil over her body.
Just standing there, the woman looked like an antique oil painting from the last century.
“Ready?” Su Wu asked.
Shen You’an: “Ah… mhm… ah…”
Her mouth lost control, all she could utter were stammering sounds. She didn’t know where to look, feeling that staring at any part of the woman was taking advantage. Shen You’an severely cursed herself in her heart: pervert, a true pervert.
“Then you get into bed first,” Su Wu said normally.
Shen You’an: “Mhm… Huh? No, no, no!”
Although she didn’t know why, her intuition told Shen You’an that she couldn’t lie in the same bed as Su Wu like this.
She harbored serious doubts about her control over herself after falling asleep.
Not to mention, just thinking about sharing a quilt and sleeping side-by-side with such a beauty…
It would be a ghost if she could fall asleep.
“Sister Su, I think the sofa is quite big, how about I go sleep there?” For the sake of both her and Su Wu’s sleep quality, Shen You’an made this decision.
Su Wu looked at her steadily, then said: “No need.”
Shen You’an’s heart lifted.
Su Wu continued: “You sleep in the bed, I’ll take the sofa.”
Shen You’an’s eyes widened: “That’s unacceptable!”
She was already presumptuously intruding into someone else’s room and was being greatly taken care of. If she really let the other party sleep on the sofa, wouldn’t that be usurping the host’s place? Outrageous!
“Sister Su, that’s not right. I’m already inconveniencing you today; how can I let you sleep on the sofa?”
Su Wu: “Are you sure we should be arguing over who sleeps on the sofa at 10 PM in a hotel?”
Shen You’an: “…”
Weird.
It was indeed very weird.
Su Wu started to move, preparing to call the front desk for another quilt.
Shen You’an quickly grabbed her wrist: “If you don’t mind, Sister Su, can we just share the space?”
Su Wu slightly raised an eyebrow, putting down the landline phone.
“You get into bed first. I’ll go wash up.”
Well.
The story returned to its origin.
Shen You’an climbed onto the bed, burrowed under the quilt, and took the time while Su Wu was busy in the bathroom to check the size of the bed.
It’s big enough. Shen You’an comforted herself. She used to be a restless sleeper, but after ten years, was she still restless? Besides, she had already slept in this bed this afternoon. It was truly unnecessary to be so squeamish now. She lowered her head and sniffed the scent on the quilt. This afternoon, she thought it was the hotel room’s incense, but now she realized it seemed to be Su Wu’s personal scent.
She came earlier and slept in this bed.
Shen You’an’s face felt hot.
Stop, stop. She restrained her disorderly, wildly speculating brain. It was normal for girls to sleep together, Shen You’an told herself. She used to sleep with her sister when she was little. Shen Huaijin always said she was clingy, still insisting on squeezing in with her even when she was older. When traveling for sketching, sometimes when rooms were scarce, she also shared a bed with friends.
This was a very normal thing.
Shen You’an attributed her current awkwardness and nervousness to the fact that she hadn’t had a proper night’s sleep in the past ten years, let alone sleeping with another person.
That was simply impossible in the apocalypse.
Hearts are easily changed. A person intimate in your bed one moment could stab you and feed you to contaminants the next. No one could fully entrust their heart, especially since she was ultimately a monster destined to lose her humanity and sanity, a killing tool used easily and without fear of failure.
Shen You’an’s wildly beating little heart finally settled down.
In the bathroom, Su Wu applied essence to her face with one hand while browsing her phone with the other, checking the data transmitted from the children’s watch.
The system prompt read:
[Your child’s current mood is Happy/Smiling broadly]
[Your child’s current mood is Happy/Smiling broadly]
[Your child’s current mood is Sad/Fingers intertwined, pitiful frown]
…
Based on the recorded times, such dramatic emotional swings had just occurred.
Su Wu turned off her phone, raised her eyes, and looked at herself in the mirror.
In her early thirties, her face had incredibly firm contours due to years of exercise and care. Only her eyes were deeply shadowed, concealing all traces of time.
Su Wu had never done such a thing before. She somewhat clumsily adjusted her slip dress. She applied body lotion to her side neck, collarbone, and chest, then picked up a perfume bottle styled like one used by Egyptian royalty. First, she sprayed some on a tissue, then lifted the neckline of her slip dress, reached in, and wiped the tissue across her skin.
After doing all this, Su Wu stared at the tissue in her hand, threw it into the trash can, and was left with only a bitter smile on her lips.
“What are you doing, Su Wu?” After murmuring to herself for a moment, she covered her face with her cold hands and took a deep breath.
A moment later, she brushed aside her sea-algae-like voluminous curly hair, walked out of the bathroom, and retrieved an outer robe from the closet.
“Should I turn off the light?” Su Wu asked.
Shen You’an was lying in bed, the quilt covering half her face. Seeing that Su Wu had added a robe, she asked with concern: “Sister Su, are you cold? Should I turn on the air conditioner?”
Su Wu: “No need. Are you cold?”
Shen You’an: “Not at all! I’m hot as coal!”
Su Wu smiled faintly, raised her hand to turn off the main light, leaving only the wall lamp by the bed. She walked over using that small light. Pulling back a small section of the bedding, she sat down, lay down, pulled up the quilt, and adjusted the pillow behind her back, placing it beneath her waist.
The distance remaining between the two of them was large enough to fit two more Shen You’ans.
“Sister Su, aren’t you going to sleep?”
Su Wu picked up her glasses from the bedside table. The silver-grey frame looked very intelligent when worn.
“I’ll read a report for a while. You sleep first.” Su Wu placed her iPad in front of her.
Shen You’an mumbled an “mhm,” said goodnight, and in the second before closing her eyes, she thought, Viewing a beauty under the lamp, with double the elegance—that statement really didn’t lie.
Her surroundings were pitch black, and her mind was incredibly clear, yet Shen You’an still felt like she was dreaming. She was actually sleeping in the same bed as the ten-years-older Su Wu. If it were her past self, she wouldn’t even dare to imagine this.
Su Wu was the one friend of her sister’s that Shen You’an feared the most—cold, and when those eyes looked at you, they seemed to see right through you, penetrating bone and skin until nothing was left.
Who would have thought that the person helping her the most now was Su Wu.
Shen You’an rolled over, thinking, I must repay Sister Su well in the future.
After a while, she rolled over again, thinking, I still need to meet Shen Huaijin first, and then tell Mom about it. Counting the years, Mom is older now. What if she gets too shocked—
After another while, she rolled over again, still thinking, The newspaper said the police declared me dead. Now that I’m alive again, what about my identity? I hadn’t taken the college entrance exam ten years ago. Do I have to take it now? The thought of studying made Shen You’an’s head hurt. If the college entrance exam involved killing or eliminating contaminants, she would surely be the top scorer.
Shen You’an was flipping back and forth in bed like a pancake.
It was impossible for Su Wu not to notice.
She turned to look at the bundled form beside her: “What’s wrong?”
The pancake dough stopped moving, froze, and then turned toward Su Wu, trembling as she opened her eyes: “Sister Su, am I disturbing your work?”
Su Wu put down the tablet, took off her glasses, pinched her brow, and shook her head: “No.”
“Unused to the bed?” Su Wu asked.
Shen You’an shook her head.
“Something’s on your mind,” Su Wu said.
Shen You’an also shook her head: “Not exactly.”
She promised obediently: “Sister Su, you continue with your work. I won’t flip over now. I will sleep well.”
Su Wu looked at her deeply, and after a moment, said: “Good.” She paused, and continued, “If you want to say anything, I’m right here.”
Shen You’an’s nose felt a bit sore for some reason.
When she looked up at people, it was like a puppy sitting obediently on the ground, looking up at you.
“Sister Su, can I hug you? Just for a moment.”
Su Wu sighed lightly: “Come here.”
Shen You’an immediately rushed over from the edge of the bed, wrapping both hands around the woman’s waist. The elegant scent of white tea wafted over, and Shen You’an’s restless heart vaguely found a place to rest.
“I’m actually a little scared,” she confessed. After a brief hug, she changed her movement to gripping Su Wu’s outer robe, maintaining a less intimate, restrained distance. Shen You’an said, “It’s too fast, Sister Su, time is too fast, and events are unfolding too quickly… I, I haven’t prepared for anything.” Her strange medical condition was an invisible time bomb hidden in her body, which would sooner or later destroy all her life.
Su Wu looked down at the soft little head nestled tightly against her lower abdomen.
She reached out, but ultimately only patted Shen You’an’s back.
“I can’t promise you that our fear of life will disappear entirely one day. On the stage of life, you don’t, and you shouldn’t, be fully prepared before you step onto it.”
“Many things just happen suddenly.”
Su Wu seemed to think of something, her tone momentarily distant, before returning to the present.
“However, Shen You’an, I can tell you with absolute certainty.”
The hand that had been gently patting the girl’s back, restraining itself for so long, finally stroked her forehead, pushing aside the stray hairs, causing Shen You’an to subconsciously look up into the woman’s eyes. They were like the deep sea, shrouded in a heavy mist, and Shen You’an saw her own reflection within them.
Su Wu said very seriously: “Child, I’m the one who found you. So no matter what happens, I’m right here.”
