After the Early-Deceased White Moonlight of a Wealthy Family Returns (GL) - Chapter 7
“I am not a child,” Shen You’an insisted.
“You look exactly the same as you did at seventeen,” Su Wu countered.
On this point, Shen You’an knew she was at fault. In fact, she herself wasn’t sure how long she had been in the apocalypse. People rarely calculated time, just focusing on living one day at a time. Survival was victory. Moreover, after becoming a monster, she had no mental capacity to consider time.
Time did not exist for her.
According to this world’s calculation, she had likely been gone for ten years.
Shen You’an: “My soul has been tempered!”
Su Wu: “Alright, then you are a child with a mature soul.”
Shen You’an: “…”
What is going on? What is going on!
Is there anyone who believes she should be twenty-seven now!
If you believe it, hit 1!
“Anyway, I’m not a child,” Shen You’an muttered. She glanced at Su Wu and said, “So, Sister Su, you don’t need to act like an adult around me either.”
Su Wu: “From the current situation, I am indeed older than you, and have always been older than you.”
Shen You’an: “We only had a three-year difference before!”
Su Wu: “You said ‘before.’”
Shen You’an was speechless. She couldn’t win an argument with Su Wu. If it were Shen Huaijin, she would start acting spoiled and unreasonable now. Facing Su Wu, she could only blink and obediently shut up.
Her drifting heart settled down during this mundane conversation. Shen You’an retreated back to her pillow and said to Su Wu: “Sister Su, thank you. It’s truly wonderful to have met you.”
She yawned: “I’m going back to sleep now. Are you still working?”
Su Wu nodded.
Shen You’an said: “Then, good night.”
With her heart at peace, her body also stabilized, no longer flipping back and forth like a pancake. Shen You’an fell asleep quickly. Gentle breathing sounds drifted over. Su Wu waited for a long time, and after confirming that the person beside her was sound asleep, she took off her glasses and seriously examined her.
The tablet was slid aside, and the heart rate data curve recorded on the children’s watch extended little by little.
All the evidence proved one thing:
Shen You’an was alive.
And she was right beside her.
A message popped up on the screen, sent by a familiar friend and business partner.
Meng Xi: It’s this day again.
Meng Xi: Su Wu, how are you? Are you alright? You haven’t gone back to Luoshui, have you?
Su Wu: You know the answer.
Meng Xi: /grinning face
Meng Xi: Being able to reply to my message means your condition is not bad.
Meng Xi: Is the psychologist I introduced working?
Su Wu picked up her phone, moved it close to Shen You’an, carefully pressed the voice recording button, recorded for about five seconds, and sent it.
Meng Xi: ?
Meng Xi: Did you accidentally slide your hand?
Su Wu: Didn’t you hear anything?
Meng Xi: Wait, let me listen again.
Meng Xi: There’s nothing there.
Su Wu listened to it herself. Shen You’an’s breathing was very faint, and the phone simply couldn’t pick it up.
Su Wu: Fine, what a pity.
Meng Xi: ?
Meng Xi: Sister Su, don’t scare me.
Meng Xi: Didn’t Tang Lin say your auditory hallucination symptoms were much better?!
Tang Lin was the psychologist Meng Xi recommended to Su Wu, Meng Xi’s junior fellow apprentice, who now occasionally helped out at Meng Xi’s lab.
With Su Wu’s permission, Tang Lin would sometimes share Su Wu’s condition with Meng Xi to discuss it together.
After waiting a long time without receiving a reply from Su Wu, Meng Xi was so scared she immediately tried to call. Su Wu didn’t answer and hung up.
Su Wu: Someone is next to me, it’s not convenient.
Meng Xi was even more frightened.
Knowing Su Wu, it was impossible for this woman to have anyone next to her at this hour.
Meng Xi immediately got up, grabbed her coat by the door, snatched her car keys, and headed straight for the airport. On the way, she occasionally sent a message during red lights.
Meng Xi: Who is it? Do I know them?
Su Wu: Yes, you do.
Meng Xi knew this was bad news. She timed the red light perfectly and asked: The Shen family’s little sister?
Su Wu: Correct.
Seeing this word, Meng Xi’s head swelled like a cow’s. She sped up as fast as possible and called Tang Lin.
“It’s over,” Meng Xi said. “Su Wu might be in serious trouble.”
Tang Lin was an early sleeper with a strict schedule and was still dreaming at this hour. Meng Xi’s call woke her up. Tang Lin calmed down for a moment before she avoided having a sleep-woken outburst.
“Sister, don’t panic. What’s wrong with Ms. Su?”
Meng Xi’s palms were sweating: “She’s so strange, I’m terrified.”
“Today is that person’s death anniversary, you know that, right? Of course, the word ‘death anniversary’ cannot be mentioned in front of Su Wu. She has always believed the little sister isn’t dead. But how could that be? After all these years, the Shen family, Shen Huaijin, the police, and she herself have searched the area around Jiuying Mountain dozens of times. Not even a mosquito could have escaped. If she really hadn’t died, how could there be no clue, no news at all? I think the initial conclusion was correct: the body was eaten by wild wolves.”
“I initially thought that her willingness to come to Luoshui to organize a film festival this week meant she had finally moved on. I even asked her, and she said it was because Xiao An liked crowds and loved movies.”
“And then—”
Meng Xi swerved right, nearly taking the wrong road.
She took a deep breath and said: “And then guess what? She sent me a message today. First, she sent a voice note and asked me to listen. I didn’t hear anything. I guessed her auditory hallucinations might have recurred. I called her, she hung up, saying someone was nearby and it wasn’t convenient.”
“She said Shen You’an is right next to her!”
Tang Lin was jolted, utterly stunned: “How could that be…”
Meng Xi: “I’m worried something has happened to her.”
Tang Lin: “Sister, what time is your flight? I’ll come with you. I’ll bring the medication.”
Meng Xi: “Lin Zai, thank you. I haven’t checked the tickets yet; I plan to do it at the airport. Also, I should be passing by your house. Should I pick you up on the way?”
Tang Lin: “You planned this already?”
Meng Xi: “You’re conscientious. I figured you would come with me. Alright, I’ll be at your front door in ten minutes. See you there!”
The flight from Chens City to the nearest airport to Luoshui would take three hours. The earliest flight was a red-eye budget airline at 2 AM.
Meng Xi sincerely prayed that Su Wu would remain normal and not do anything irreversible during these few hours.
Tang Lin consoled her: “I know what you’re afraid of, but based on my understanding of Ms. Su, she won’t go that far.”
Tang Lin: “At least, not until she has concrete proof of Shen You’an’s death.”
Meng Xi: “…Xiao Lin, do you comfort people like that in your consultation room?”
Tang Lin: “Of course not, that’s a paid service.”
Meng Xi smiled helplessly: “Is it too late for me to pay you now?”
Tang Lin said: “Why don’t we hope for a miracle?”
Meng Xi thought, What miracle? What miracle could there be when it comes to death?
However, the next day, she took a taxi straight to the hotel after landing, knocking incessantly at the door at 7 AM.
The door opened, revealing a girl wearing a cream-colored pajama set with cute animal prints. Her hair was tousled, and her already small face had exceptionally large eyes.
As soon as the door opened, she yawned, her first reaction being: “Sister Su, did you forget your card?”
After saying that, she realized something was wrong. Her sleepy eyes struggled to open, and Meng Xi even felt that, in that instant, she saw the constriction phenomenon only seen in animal pupils. The girl was highly vigilant. She left the door half-closed, only a crack, and asked: “Hello, can I help you?”
Meng Xi felt that the person in front of her looked very familiar.
She looked up at the room number, confirming repeatedly. It was indeed the room Su Wu kept for herself year-round. This hotel was their project, and this room had been reserved for Su Wu since its opening.
No one else had ever stayed there besides Su Wu.
She intuitively sensed she had discovered something significant.
“I’m sorry, I’m looking for Su Wu,” Meng Xi smiled gently. “Did I disturb you? I’m truly sorry. Does she live here?”
Shen You’an replied that she wasn’t sure and quickly closed the door.
Early in the morning, past seven, coming to find Su Wu. What’s going on? Out of caution, Shen You’an used the watch to call Su Wu.
“You’an?”
Su Wu was out for her morning run, and her heavy breathing was noticeable when she answered the phone.
Shen You’an quickly explained: “Sister Su, someone was knocking at the door just now. I thought you forgot your room card and didn’t look through the peephole, so I opened the door right away. There are people outside, two women. One is about 170cm, with a collarbone-length bob and tea-brown hair. The other is 165cm, with black hair tied halfway up. I think they might be looking for you.”
Su Wu stopped running, wiped the sweat from the side of her neck, and replied: “Okay, I’ll be right back. Where are they now?”
Shen You’an felt a little embarrassed: “I said they had the wrong room and closed the door. Sister Su, did I mess up your plans?”
“No,” Su Wu said. “You were very cautious. You did a great job.”
“Wait for me in the room.”
Su Wu returned quickly.
She was wearing a simple, fitted tracksuit. She saw Meng Xi and Tang Lin from a distance. As soon as they met, Meng Xi quickly rushed over.
Su Wu saw the two of them together and immediately knew what was going on.
“Worried about me?” she asked.
Meng Xi’s eyes were red: “What else! Do you know how terrifying you were yesterday! Late at night! Saying someone was next to you! And it was the little Shen sister! Su Wu! I was genuinely afraid you had gone crazy!”
Su Wu sighed shallowly: “Meng Xi, I’m fine.”
Meng Xi: “Yes, you’re fine. Do you think I wouldn’t know if you were fine? I knocked on the door just now, and the one who opened it was a girl, so well-behaved. I worried about you, and here you are playing the ‘hidden mistress’ game?”
Su Wu glanced at the hotel room door behind Meng Xi and asked: “You really didn’t notice?”
Meng Xi was completely bewildered: “Huh? Notice what?”
Tang Lin realized what was happening, tugged on Meng Xi’s sleeve, and told her: “The girl in the room and Shen…”
Meng Xi processed the words for a moment, then her eyes widened: “Alright, Su Wu, you… you’ve learned the body double trick now?”
Su Wu thought there was seriously something wrong with Meng Xi’s mind.
She walked silently to the door and opened it. Shen You’an had already changed into her outdoor clothes. Hearing the movement, she walked over.
Su Wu looked calm: “Let me introduce you. This is my friend, Meng Xi. And her junior, Tang Lin.”
“And this is Shen You’an.”
Meng Xi: “…?”
“???”
“?!?! “
