- After the Maniacal Alpha Settled Down, She Had a Wife and Daughter
- Chapter 1 - Let's Keep a Low Profile
The temperature in Jingcheng in early March was warmer than in previous years. Everyone said it would be a warm spring, a nice change from the awful winter that had just passed. It was rumored to be the coldest winter in ten years, and many young people in Jingcheng had to add a thick pair of leggings under their fleece pants just to get through it.
The flowers in the Yu family’s villa garden were gradually coming back to life. Even through the glass window, you could feel the vibrant energy. Yu Sui sat on the bay window, lost in a daze, caught in the confusion and distress that had been her constant companion for the past two weeks.
Her phone alarm went off. Yu Sui saw the note left by the original owner: Tonight is Sheng Nanxi’s birthday party.
Yu Sui had been transmigrated into this yuri ABO novel for half a month, a novel where the main character had the same name as her. She still hadn’t fully adjusted to her new identity, especially her new hairstyle.
When she felt annoyed, she would instinctively run her hand through her hair. Her usual shoulder-length hair was now a punk-style pixie cut. Yu Sui looked closely in the mirror and saw that not only was it short, but it was also uneven, with one side longer than the other, giving it a very unique look.
She had only tried such a hairstyle once, during the summer after she graduated from high school, but it was quickly “corrected.” She never thought the original owner would dare to do this in her senior year of college.
Yu Sui got up and walked to the bathroom. Before the party tonight, she had to take a shower. No matter how much she disliked these kinds of social events, she had to go since she was in someone else’s body.
In the book, the Yu family was a prominent family in Jingcheng with various businesses. Yu Sui’s parents divorced early, and her mother moved overseas, barely keeping in touch with her two daughters. Her father was strict but cared about his daughters’ upbringing. Even though he had many female friends, he never officially found them a stepmother.
The original owner was 22 years old, a senior at Jingcheng University. Her family had already mapped out her future: an internship at her older sister Yu Mu’s company during the summer, followed by a master’s degree abroad, and then internships at various Yu family branches every holiday before returning to Jingcheng to help manage the company after graduation.
This was almost the exact same life plan as her sister, Yu Mu, who was four years older. But the original owner didn’t like it. And to be honest, neither did Yu Sui.
She was an orphan who had worked hard to escape her past life, even graduating from college a year early because she was smart and diligent. By the time she was 22, she was already working full-time at a good company on the Global 500 list.
She didn’t have the original owner’s prominent family background, nor did she have the easy path that so many regular people would envy. But Yu Sui hated having her life so meticulously planned. She was used to relying on herself for everything and believed that the only life that was truly her own was the one she earned on her own.
With only three months left until graduation, she knew it wouldn’t be easy to change her domineering father’s mind. But that wasn’t the only urgent issue. Yu Sui remembered the plot development: next week, she was set to meet the other female lead in the book, Chu Jiayun.
However, this was not the beginning of a romantic love story. The original owner was arrogant and proud, but she was also incredibly lucky. Just before graduation, she officially differentiated into an SS-class Alpha, a rarity in the entire country.
In this ABO world, a person’s gender came after their ABO designation. Differentiating into an Alpha, especially an S-class one, was a dream come true for everyone. However, S-class meant top-tier, a rare species. An SS-class Alpha, which only appears every hundred years, was even more exceptional.
Most A-class Alphas were considered high-quality, B-class were average, and C-class usually had some kind of defect. Betas were not graded. Once someone differentiated into a Beta, they were destined to be a normal person for life, with a stable life being their goal. Omegas were often beautiful and charming. Whether male or female, differentiating into an Omega meant becoming passive. But like Alphas, Omegas also had a ranking. They could only be marked by an Alpha of the same or higher rank; otherwise, the mark would be ineffective.
Compared to the rare S-class Alphas, S-class Omegas were even more uncommon, considered the pinnacle of Omegas. Not only were they exceptionally beautiful, but they also had a captivating ability. If they chose to, an S-class Omega’s pheromones could make most Alphas lose their minds.
Yu Sui couldn’t hold her breath any longer and suddenly popped her head out of the bathtub, panting heavily as she grabbed a towel to dry off. She had replayed the plot in her mind several times but still couldn’t understand why the S-class Omega, Chu Jiayun, wanted to remove the original owner’s scent gland.
Even if an Omega was subservient to an Alpha, Chu Jiayun didn’t seem to have a personal grudge against the original owner. Taking away the most precious thing from an SS-class Alpha for no reason seemed like something a truly wicked person would do.
Just as Yu Sui put on her bathrobe, her phone rang. She answered it and heard Yu Mu’s gentle voice from the other end: “Xiao Sui, have you woken up from your nap?”
“I’m up, just finished showering.”
Yu Mu sounded happy: “I thought you were going to find an excuse to be late tonight. It looks like Sheng Nanxi’s influence is stronger.”
The Sheng family, like the Yu family, was a prominent name in Jingcheng. Sheng Nanxi and Yu Sui had been classmates since elementary school all the way through college. However, there weren’t many Alphas in the Sheng family, and even fewer S-class ones, which put a lot of psychological pressure on Sheng Nanxi.
In this world, the higher quality an Alpha was, the later they differentiated. Many started to differentiate after the age of 20. If someone hadn’t differentiated by the age of 21, it was generally assumed they would become an Alpha, and most likely an S-class one.
Yu Mu differentiated in her senior year, and the result of becoming an S-class Alpha significantly increased her status within the Yu family. Her father was also proud of it for a long time among his friends.
Yu Sui sighed to herself as she thought of Sheng Nanxi’s differentiation result, but she didn’t plan on telling Yu Mu much.
“If I were late tonight, Dad would scold me to death.”
Yu Mu chuckled softly: “Just a friendly reminder, you’d better wear a wig tonight.”
Yu Sui looked at her pitifully short hair in the mirror and sighed heavily: “I know, I was planning on it.”
When the original owner came home with her new haircut, her father, who had just returned from an overseas business trip, was so shocked he almost fainted.
Yu Sui went into her walk-in closet and found a shoulder-length wig that was similar to her old hairstyle. She then carefully put on some makeup and, after a lot of deliberation, chose a conservative black dress.
Outside the Sheng family’s home, Yu Mu got out of her car at the same time. When she saw Yu Sui’s outfit, her expression changed slightly, and she was visibly surprised.
“What’s gotten into you today? You’ve completely changed your style,” she said, walking over and carefully examining her sister.
Yu Sui pursed her lips: “It’s never wrong to keep a low profile.”
Yu Mu didn’t believe her at all. She took Yu Sui’s arm and walked with her toward the entrance: “If anyone else said that, I’d believe it, but coming from you, it sounds like the opposite of the truth.”
Ever since their parents divorced, Yu Sui’s personality had become more and more eccentric, and her temper had grown worse. At some point, she had become the “little tyrant” of the school.
The Yu family’s influence was a big factor. The pranks she pulled were more mischievous than harmful. Trying to hold her accountable didn’t often lead to much success, but the resentment lingered.
Because of this, everyone secretly resented Yu Sui. They would laugh and joke with her, but very few were truly close to her. Sheng Nanxi was an exception—she was a good student with a good temper, and yet she was good friends with Yu Sui.
Their father was currently chatting with a few old acquaintances. When he saw his daughters arrive, he gestured for them to come over.
Yu Sui’s outfit today was a bit unexpected for him. He initially thought he had seen wrong.
Yu Mu walked up to him and, in a well-behaved manner, said, “Hello, Dad, and hello, uncles.”
Yu Sui mimicked her sister, repeating the greeting without any other comments.
Yu Zhongqing’s gaze lingered on Yu Sui for a moment: “The party hasn’t started yet. Why don’t you go chat with Nanxi for a bit?”
He was essentially sending her away, which was exactly what Yu Sui wanted. She didn’t want to stand around as a prop, listening to a bunch of business topics she had no interest in.
Yu Mu, of course, stayed behind. Before going upstairs, Yu Sui looked at her sister’s straight posture and constant smile, and she felt like she was looking at her future self. The resistance in her heart grew stronger. She wanted to change everything, both her meeting with Chu Jiayun and the life that had been so carefully planned for her.
In Ancheng, Chu Jiayun was packing her luggage when she received an email from her old classmate, Bai Jiling. The email contained the schedule for the upcoming training course next week, along with her living arrangements in Jingcheng.
Ancheng was a city in the southwest, and Chu Jiayun lived and worked there most of the time. Her main job was as a psychological trainer. Four years ago, she had accepted an invitation from Jingcheng University to serve as a psychological counselor for their senior students’ “adapting to society” training program every March. She also participated in the psychological assessments and guidance work before differentiation.
Her professional skills were highly praised in the industry, and the students who attended her training never forgot her. However, she kept her distance from everyone in her private life. Besides her family, only Bai Jiling was close enough to be a part of her life.
Her aloofness wasn’t just due to her personality; it was also because Chu Jiayun was an S-class Omega. Four years ago, she and her sister moved to Ancheng, and she rarely mentioned anything about her past. Besides work, she didn’t interact with people much, but her mind was always on Jingcheng.
Like everyone else, she was waiting for the legendary SS-class Alpha who was rumored to differentiate this year. All signs pointed to Jingcheng University.
Just as she opened the email, Bai Jiling’s phone call came in.
Chu Jiayun’s attention was still on her computer, her voice calm and steady: “Jiling, I’ve received the information and I’m looking at it now.”
Bai Jiling, on the other hand, was full of anticipation for their annual reunion: “Why are you being so formal with me? Oh, right, I also sent you this year’s student list. Yu Sui is on it.”
Hearing that name, Chu Jiayun frowned slightly, though her voice didn’t waver much.
She quickly clicked on the student list and scanned it. Both Yu Sui and Sheng Nanxi were on it.
Bai Jiling knew she had probably already seen the list, so she continued: “This year’s group of students is the best we’ve had in years. The probability of them differentiating into S-class Alphas is the highest.”
“Hmm.”
Bai Jiling hesitated for a moment, then cautiously asked, “So, are you going to use the same old method this time?”
