- Chapter 14 - Bandaging for You
Yu Sui had only been thinking about pulling Chu Jiayun up, and she couldn’t care less about anything else. It was only after she laid down that she realized her strength was being drained little by little. The feeling of being full of power had become fleeting.
Sheng Nanxi ran over and, along with Chu Jiayun, tried to help the exhausted Yu Sui up. But Yu Sui waved her hand: “Let me lie down for a little while.”
“A Sui, the ground is dirty and cold. You should sit up. Or, wait, let me lay something down for you to lie on?”
But Yu Sui was still too lazy to move. She was so tired that she didn’t even want to talk.
Chu Jiayun’s heartbeat had slowed down, but it was still not normal. She faintly felt two forces colliding inside her body, then slowly merging. She had never experienced this feeling before and didn’t know what would happen next. She could only try to maintain the status quo.
Compared to the sudden crisis just now, this slow-changing, unfamiliar, and unknown process was even more unsettling.
Even so, Chu Jiayun still held on and moved a little closer to Yu Sui. She put her hand on her arm: “Nanxi is right. If you stay on the ground like this for too long, you’ll catch a cold and get sick. We can’t have anyone else getting sick.”
Yu Sui turned her head and looked at her weakly: “But I feel like I have no strength left.”
Perhaps Yu Sui had used every last bit of her strength to pull her back. The thought of their bloody hands, which couldn’t be separated, made Chu Jiayun’s heart race again.
Besides her younger sister, there was probably no one else who had risked everything for her like this. She had also seen people injure themselves in front of her, but that was to show their affection. She, however, was not moved.
There was no emotion, only annoyance. Chu Jiayun didn’t like this way of using one’s life to prove love. She never thought she would be so flustered by Yu Sui’s recklessness.
Yu Sui’s body was exhausted, but she could see that Chu Jiayun’s face was a little off. It wasn’t pale; it was a little too red. It had been a while since they were out of danger, and her face was even more flushed than it was then.
“Instructor Chu, are you okay?” Yu Sui subconsciously raised her hand, wanting to touch her noticeably red face.
When her hand was halfway there, Chu Jiayun instinctively flinched. It wasn’t obvious, but the intention was clear.
Yu Sui awkwardly pulled her hand back: “I was just worried that your wound was inflamed.”
When she said that, Sheng Nanxi noticed that both of their hands were badly injured. She rummaged through her bag for the first aid kit, preparing to clean and bandage their wounds.
Yu Sui clasped her hands together: “Help Instructor Chu first. She grabbed a tree branch, so it’s more likely to get infected.”
Chu Jiayun didn’t miss the wince of pain on her face as she clasped her hands. Yu Sui’s hand was mostly torn by her. Since her hand was dirty, Yu Sui’s wound would also get infected. Chu Jiayun knew exactly why Yu Sui insisted on having Sheng Nanxi bandage her first.
“Thank you, Yu Sui.” There was so much she wanted to say, but Chu Jiayun could only express it with “thank you.”
Yu Sui smiled easily, and seeing Sheng Nanxi’s clumsy movements, she couldn’t help but tease her: “Class leader, you’re not on your A-game today.”
Sheng Nanxi’s tightly pursed lips moved a few times, and she said in a trembling voice: “It’s all my fault. If I had noticed Chen Yinian’s weird behavior sooner, you guys wouldn’t have ended up like this.”
She was indeed stunned by the accident, and her hands were still shaking a little.
Chu Jiayun took the alcohol swab from her hand and comforted her: “This was an accident. And since it was an accident, no one could have predicted it. Don’t blame yourself. This has nothing to do with you. If anything, you’re the one who tied up Chen Yinian in time and gave us a chance to be rescued.”
After saying that, she started to clean her own wound. Sheng Nanxi had been so careful that she had just dabbed at it, which only increased the number of times she had to wipe it, making it even more painful.
She was not at all gentle with herself, as if it wasn’t her own hand, especially such a beautiful one. Sheng Nanxi was on the verge of tears just watching. Yu Sui couldn’t help but squint her eyes, feeling the pain herself.
Besides the initial sharp pain, it was numb afterward, which made it easier to treat. Chu Jiayun bandaged it up and prepared to treat Yu Sui’s hand.
Yu Sui held her hands tightly: “Instructor Chu, once your hands are bandaged, don’t move them around. Just let Nanxi help me.”
Chu Jiayun deliberately waved her hand: “I only put on two layers, it won’t get in my way.” She looked at Sheng Nanxi and said gently, “Don’t make it difficult for her, or you’ll be the one to suffer.”
With that, Chu Jiayun directly took Yu Sui’s hand and began to clean her wound thoroughly.
“Ah! That hurts!” Yu Sui cried out. She knew it would hurt, but she didn’t expect it to hurt this much.
Chu Jiayun paused, and when she started again, she was obviously gentler, but it was still more forceful than Sheng Nanxi’s extreme gentleness.
“It can’t be bandaged if it’s not clean. Just think of it as being for your own good and bear with it.”
Yu Sui understood this principle. She could only distract herself by talking.
“Instructor Chu, aren’t you afraid of pain?”
“A person with normal senses is afraid of pain. Why would I be an exception?”
Yu Sui looked down at her battered hand, which was being cleaned little by little. She then watched Chu Jiayun carefully wrap a bandage around it. Her mood also improved.
“Then why were you so harsh on yourself just now? I thought you had a grudge against yourself.”
Chu Jiayun’s lips curved. She gave her a meaningful look and tightened her knot: “That’s because I know if I’m not harsh now, I’ll suffer even more in the future.”
Yu Sui let out another cry of pain. Chu Jiayun had already let go of her hand.
She looked at her hand carefully and joked with Sheng Nanxi: “Look at my white bear paw. Isn’t it a rare sight?”
Sheng Nanxi glared at her: “Why don’t you ask Instructor Chu for her opinion?”
Chu Jiayun threw away the bandage she had just put on and wrapped a new one. Now she also had a pair of “bear paws.” Yu Sui glanced at it and wanted to laugh but held back.
By the time Bai Jiling and the others arrived, a long time had passed. If a real accident had happened, they would only be here to clean up the mess.
“Jiayun, how could something so serious have happened?”
Chu Jiayun roughly explained what had happened with Chen Yinian and also told her that Yu Sui had saved her. Bai Jiling was frightened.
“My communication device suddenly malfunctioned. It was another instructor who told me about this.”
Chu Jiayun felt that this was too much of a coincidence, and her face darkened.
Bai Jiling told them to take a car directly down the mountain and not to participate in the rest of the training: “I must analyze this flaw and rectify it immediately.”
“Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Stay safe.”
As soon as they got back to the base, Yu Sui and Sheng Nanxi were picked up by a frantic Yu Mu. Bai Jiling specially granted Yu Sui permission to go home and recover from her injuries and to return to the base once she was better.
Yu Sui was overjoyed at the thought of being temporarily out of Chu Jiayun’s sight. She didn’t expect that doing a good deed would actually save herself. But when they were about to part ways, she pretended to be reluctant to leave the base and regretful about missing a portion of the training.
Chu Jiayun comforted her: “Focus on your recovery. Don’t worry about the training. If you’re afraid of falling behind, Director Bai and I will discuss a special plan for you.”
Yu Mu was happy to hear this. This way, her sister could recover well without delaying her training.
“Then it would be great for Instructor Chu to come to our house for special tutoring on the weekends.”
“No.”
“That’s not an option right now.”
Yu Sui and Chu Jiayun simultaneously rejected the proposal. But Yu Mu didn’t give up: “I can apply directly to Director Bai or the school. Don’t worry about the paperwork.”
The Yu family made donations every year. The newly built second sports center at Jingcheng University was donated by the Yu family. So, it made sense that Yu Mu had some pull.
After Bai Jiling led the team back to the base, she didn’t return to the city that night. She worked through the night to find the flaw and finally discovered that her emergency communication device had been intentionally broken.
She called Chu Jiayun, who had already returned to the city: “You Min intentionally broke my receiver, so I couldn’t receive Sheng Nanxi’s distress signal in time.”
“Is she in league with Chen Yinian?”
“I’m not sure yet. Chen Yinian is being held for now. We won’t get his report until Monday.”
Chu Jiayun had just finished showering. There was a faint pain in her hand, but it didn’t stop her from being hard on herself as usual.
Bai Jiling rubbed her forehead and said, “I was going to take you to see my uncle this weekend, but it looks like we’ll have to reschedule.”
“It’s fine. I have plans this weekend anyway.”
“You’re going to go out when you’re hurt?”
“I’m going to the Yu family to formally thank them.”
