- Chapter 15 - Mutual Influence
When Bai Jiling heard that Chu Jiayun was going to the Yu family’s alone over the weekend, she was surprised and a little worried. But with such a major accident happening during training, as the person in charge, she had no reason to take a vacation.
“Why don’t you wait a few days for me? Once I’ve handled this, I’ll go with you? It’s a good chance for me to give the Yu family a proper explanation as well.”
“Giving thanks and reporting the results are two different things. There’s no need to force them together. Besides, your investigation will take time. You don’t have to rush to accommodate me.”
Bai Jiling sighed softly: “You’re always so stubborn, and you’re the one who suffers for it. In any case, be careful when you go to the Yu family’s.”
Chu Jiayun had originally planned to go by herself, but Yu Mu insisted on coming to pick her up after she received the call. That day, she had specially put on a light beige skirt suit. Her makeup was as elegant and dignified as always. The lack of the solemnity of a base instructor made Yu Mu’s eyes light up.
“Instructor Chu, you’re just as beautiful as before! No, even more beautiful than before.”
Chu Jiayun smiled gracefully: “You’ve been graduated for so long, and you’re still so good at flattering your teachers.”
“I’m just speaking the truth.”
Chu Jiayun’s place wasn’t far from the Yu family’s. The traffic was good on the weekend, so their conversation didn’t last long before they arrived. Before getting out of the car, Yu Mu emphasized again: “My sister’s personality has become more and more strange. I’m starting to have a hard time understanding what she’s thinking.”
On the way, Chu Jiayun asked about how Yu Sui had been acting since she got home yesterday. Yu Mu said her injuries weren’t serious. A doctor had also come to examine her and found no major issues. But Yu Sui’s facade of being in good spirits made her hard to trust. She didn’t get any useful information when she asked her either.
“Perhaps you’re just being too nervous. I know you care about her. It would be better if you tried to control that concern and keep it in a suitable place.”
Yu Mu seemed to get anxious easily. Whether it was for herself or for the people and things she cared about, as long as it touched her heart, her emotions would easily fluctuate. As her former instructor, Chu Jiayun was well aware of this.
In front of her, Yu Mu had less of the usual dignity she had at the company. She was still a lot like she was during training, very trusting of Instructor Chu and very dependent on her.
“I am indeed not doing a good job. It’s probably inherited. You said you were coming to thank me today, and my father and I actually felt like you didn’t have to. But selfishly, I hoped you would come and help my sister feel better, so thank you for going to all this trouble.”
Yu Mu first led Chu Jiayun to see Yu Zhongqing. This famous business magnate of Jingcheng often appeared in the media, and people were no strangers to him. But privately, he was very good at keeping his family life a secret, so most of what the public knew about the Yu family’s internal affairs were just speculations and rumors. Few people truly knew what was going on.
“Hello, Instructor Chu. Thank you for coming to see Yu Sui today.”
Chu Jiayun knew that the busy Yu Zhongqing had specifically waited for her at home to show how important her visit was.
“It was my fault that Yu Sui got hurt. It’s only right that I come to see her and apologize to you.”
Yu Zhongqing waved his hand casually, invited her to sit down, and had Yu Mu personally brew and serve the tea: “My youngest daughter has always been a handful. She caused me a lot of trouble when she was at school. Even though she’s a girl, she learned to fight, skipped class, and even did some kind of survival training. It wouldn’t be strange for her to come back all dirty and bruised. It’s rare that she did something good this time. I feel bad that she got hurt, but I’m very satisfied with her performance this time. I think it’s great that she would go to such lengths to help someone, no matter who it is.”
Yu Mu, who was sitting next to him, also comforted Chu Jiayun: “That’s right, Instructor Chu. You don’t have to feel guilty about this anymore or have any psychological burden. The doctor at the base and our family doctor have both examined her. A Sui only has some minor external injuries.”
Seeing the Yu family’s attitude, Chu Jiayun didn’t continue to thank them. But she did feel that she owed Yu Sui for what she had done.
Yu Zhongqing sat for a while, then left for an appointment, showing that he had indeed stayed home specifically to see Chu Jiayun.
After he left, a relaxed smile returned to Yu Mu’s face: “A Sui should be awake now. Let’s go up.”
When Chu Jiayun was with the two high-class Alphas from the Yu family, she could faintly feel the pressure. Although she had used an inhibitor before she left, being so close to them still made her heart beat abnormally.
Especially just now, she felt that the air was filled with a faint, almost imperceptible scent of tobacco, but it wasn’t like the normal smell of cigarettes she was used to. It was a good thing the scent had faded, or Chu Jiayun would have to find an opportunity to use more inhibitors.
The weekend was a rare opportunity for her to recuperate. If she had to continue using strong inhibitors on the weekends, it would undoubtedly make her already fragile body even worse.
Yu Sui had gone to bed early last night after taking her medicine, so she didn’t know that Chu Jiayun was coming over today. She usually liked to sleep in on weekends, so no one would bother her before she woke up naturally. By the time the sunlight from the cracks in the curtains woke her up, it was already eleven o’clock.
Yu Sui felt an itch in her eyes, as if something had fallen in or was trying to crawl out. It was very uncomfortable. She stumbled into the bathroom, rubbed her eyes, and stood in front of the mirror, wanting to see what was wrong.
When she let go, she was startled. Her eyes, which were slightly red from rubbing, weren’t scary. What was scary was that her eyes seemed to have changed.
She leaned in close, almost pressing her face against the mirror, and repeatedly confirmed that she wasn’t seeing things.
Her right and left eyes were now completely different colors. The faint blue looked rather romantic and mysterious. But Yu Sui was in no mood to appreciate it. She frantically searched her mind for relevant information.
She remembered Sheng Nanxi saying that an SS-class Alpha’s pupils would change color. Yu Sui knew that she would have this day. But didn’t that only happen in a specific situation? She hadn’t officially differentiated yet and didn’t plan on marking anyone. So why did it suddenly change?
She turned on the faucet and washed her face with cold water, trying to calm herself down quickly. If her family saw her like this, she wouldn’t be able to hide it.
She had been worried about this yesterday when the two doctors came to examine her. It was strange that both doctors said she was fine and didn’t mention her differentiation.
Yu Sui’s heart, which had just calmed down, was now in her throat again after waking up.
She wanted to call Sheng Nanxi to ask for more information about SS-class Alphas. The original owner didn’t like to study, so she hadn’t memorized much from her textbooks. Just as she picked up her phone, she heard voices in the hallway. She could tell it was Yu Mu’s voice, but who was the Instructor Chu she was talking about?
Who else could it be? Yu Sui realized in the next second, and at the same time, a knock sounded on the door.
The person outside knocked a few times and, not getting a response, spoke up: “A Sui, are you awake? Instructor Chu is here to see you. Get up quickly.”
Yu Sui was annoyed. She found a pair of sunglasses in a drawer and then opened the door.
Outside, Yu Mu was still talking to Chu Jiayun. The first thing they saw was Yu Sui’s sunglasses, and both of them were startled.
Yu Sui stepped aside to let them in: “I don’t know what’s wrong, but when I woke up just now, the sunlight felt so glaring, and my eyes wouldn’t stop watering.”
Yu Mu saw that the curtains in the room were all open, and the sunlight was indeed very bright. After hearing her sister’s explanation, she walked over and pulled half of the curtains shut: “If it’s too bright, don’t open them all like you used to. It’s uncomfortable to wear sunglasses at home. Take them off.”
Yu Sui shook her head: “It’s more comfortable to wear them.”
Chu Jiayun examined Yu Sui. Besides the injury to her hand, she seemed to be moving freely, and her speech was normal, so she didn’t seem to be in any trouble.
Yu Sui’s room had a faint, light fragrance. Occasionally, it was mixed with a fresh scent of grass. It was pleasant and not overpowering. Chu Jiayun relaxed a little and began to ask about Yu Sui’s mental state.
Generally, after a terrifying accident like that, many people would feel shaken. How long that feeling lasted depended on the person. This was what Yu Mu was worried about, especially since it was close to the time of differentiation, which could easily cause problems.
“Did you just start being afraid of sunlight today?”
Yu Sui reluctantly nodded: “I guess so.”
Yu Mu frowned when she heard that and looked at Chu Jiayun worriedly. Chu Jiayun gestured for her not to rush.
“Your sunglasses look good. They match your pajamas, too.”
Yu Sui pulled a hoodie from the back of the sofa, put it on, and tied a knot at the collar: “Now that you mention it, I feel a little cold.”
Yu Sui’s movements of picking up the hoodie and putting it on were smooth. The movement wasn’t big, but because they were so close, Chu Jiayun could feel the subtle breeze. Unlike the smell of grass in the room, there was a faint, almost imperceptible scent of ebony. But Chu Jiayun still shivered slightly.
