- After the Maniacal Alpha Settled Down, She Had a Wife and Daughter
- Chapter 20 - Little Secret
Yu Sui asked this question merely as a test and didn’t expect Chu Jiayun to answer. Sure enough, as soon as she finished the question, the milk tea in Chu Jiayun’s hand was gripped a little tighter.
She lowered her eyes and glanced at it, then quickly looked up, pretending to look at the crowd queuing on the viewing platform to take pictures, as if the other party’s answer was irrelevant.
Just when she thought the atmosphere would become silent and cold, Chu Jiayun suddenly spoke. She spoke slowly, her tone as if pulling back distant memories.
“You’ll noticeably feel your body become stronger, full of power, tireless, and highly motivated. Of course, you also become easily impulsive and difficult to control.” She spoke slowly, but all the main points were included, as if she had personally experienced it.
In fact, these were all things Bai Jiling had told her. They had differentiated around the same time. Contrary to Bai Jiling, Chu Jiayun felt her weakness escaping from her very bones. Unlike the other person’s bright and sunny future, she only saw a lonely night road bathed in moonlight.
But she still calmly accepted the reality of becoming an Omega. Although her strength was weaker, her meticulousness was several times stronger. She couldn’t calculate the gains and losses, so she could only find things that made her happy in her calm acceptance.
Yu Sui silently compared what she said with her own situation and found that most of it was the same. She also knew that this couldn’t be Chu Jiayun’s own experience, but she spoke so genuinely and vividly that someone close to her must have had this experience.
“What about psychologically? Will you become more competitive or…”
Chu Jiayun saw the hidden eagerness in her eyes and smiled: “Or what?”
Yu Sui was a little embarrassed, but it was better to clarify this matter sooner. After all, when she returned to the base after recovering from her injury, many students would have already differentiated.
“Will you become especially prone to being impulsive towards Omegas after differentiation?”
The milk tea in Chu Jiayun’s hand clearly wobbled. When she turned her face to Yu Sui, she looked composed again: “Only in special circumstances.”
Yu Sui’s relieved look made Chu Jiayun feel that it was different from what she had anticipated.
She had thought Yu Sui was preparing to use her advantage of differentiating into an Alpha to “bully” Omegas. Now it seemed she didn’t have that intention.
“You’re asking this because you have a romantic interest?”
Yu Sui choked on the cold milk tea and denied with squinted eyes: “Absolutely not! I’m not a casual person when it comes to relationships!”
Chu Jiayun suddenly said with deep meaning: “When we complete differentiation, a new personality will be formed both physically and psychologically. Especially when interfered with by pheromones, you might do things that are involuntary or impulsive and regrettable.”
Yu Sui kept this reminder in mind, contemplating how she would hide and restrain herself in the future. After all, SS-class not only represented absolute suppression but could also bring more uncontrollable power.
Seeing her deep in thought, Chu Jiayun clearly emphasized again: “Controlling one’s pheromones is the most important thing a mature and rational person should do. Being good to yourself is also being responsible to others.”
Especially for Alphas, releasing pheromones without reason will lead to arrest. Except for novices who have just differentiated and are not yet proficient in control, no one has the privilege to be exempt.
The deep meaning in Chu Jiayun’s eyes made Yu Sui shiver. Fortunately, the warm breeze was gentle, and the milk tea in her hand was no longer icy, allowing her to steady herself.
“I will remember Instructor Chu’s words. When I differentiate, I will definitely be a restrained good person.”
Chu Jiayun smiled: “I believe you can do very well.”
Yu Sui had wanted to gain other people’s trust or affirmation since childhood, probably stemming from the loneliness and confusion that always filled the orphanage. She had once had the opportunity to be adopted, but because she refused to perform singing and dancing as the other party requested, she was called introverted and withdrawn, and was left behind.
Some of her once good friends were adopted, and others went to the hospital due to illness and were never heard from again. Yu Sui went from initially worrying and missing them to eventually being left with only habit.
She was accustomed to loneliness and had been accompanied by solitude for many years. She always felt that the colorful world was a little distant from her. Now, with Yu Mu’s care and Sheng Nanxi’s company, Yu Sui felt that the world’s colors were starting to become richer.
Even the instructor in front of her, whom she knew was a disguise, made Yu Sui feel that this afternoon of chatting in the warm wind at the pier would be deeply etched in her mind. She sighed silently in her heart: This is truly a world that makes her both love and fear.
Chu Jiayun’s phone rang. She looked at the caller ID and didn’t avoid answering it.
On the other end of the phone was Bai Jiling, who had just returned to the city from the base. She knew that Chu Jiayun had gone to tutor Yu Sui today and wanted to ask if she was finished, and then invite her to dinner.
“Yu Sui and I are out. I’m afraid tonight won’t work.”
“Did the tutoring take this long today?”
Chu Jiayun still spoke in a calm tone, explaining: “We had an outdoor session this afternoon. The weather is nice, and it has a positive effect on mood.”
Bai Jiling didn’t doubt her professional ability: “I was just surprised that you haven’t finished work yet. I just arrived, too. We can eat a little later.”
It seemed she didn’t intend to miss this opportunity to meet. Chu Jiayun thought of the other matters at the lab and agreed.
While she was on the phone, Yu Sui remained silent on the side, sometimes looking at the boats coming and going at the pier, and sometimes looking up at the kites soaring in the sky. She sometimes heard the sound of a steam whistle and sometimes the screaming of children running and playing.
She could roughly guess the content of the phone call. When Chu Jiayun mentioned the outdoor tutoring, the corners of her mouth unconsciously lifted. She was clearly out shopping and relaxing, but Instructor Chu explained it so seriously. Furthermore, Bai Jiling and Chu Jiayun’s relationship was not just that of superior and subordinate. She suddenly felt that this afternoon had a hint of a little secret.
Chu Jiayun hung up the phone. Seeing Yu Sui giggling, she also smiled: “A phone call can make you smile so happily?”
“I just didn’t expect Instructor Chu to be able to say those words without changing your expression.”
Chu Jiayun realized what she was referring to and still didn’t change her expression: “Because I was stating a fact.”
After speaking, she was the first to stand up: “We’ve been outside long enough today. It’s time to end the session.”
Yu Sui stood up lazily. She wanted to continue chatting for a while. This kind of opportunity didn’t come along often.
Sensing her reluctance and unsatisfied feeling, Chu Jiayun’s heart softened slightly: “Next time, if the timing is right, we can come again.”
The light in Yu Sui’s eyes instantly brightened. When she smiled, her faint tear mole became noticeable. Chu Jiayun was momentarily lost in thought and looked away.
By the time Bai Jiling met Chu Jiayun, she had already changed her clothes and entered weekend holiday mode.
“I’m only not working at the base today. Why do you look like you haven’t seen me in a long time?”
Bai Jiling retracted her scrutinizing gaze and signaled the waiter to take their order. It was very difficult to book a table at this restaurant. Her uncle had to cancel last minute, giving her the opportunity, so she immediately thought of bringing Chu Jiayun to try it.
“To be honest, I think you look a little different today.”
Chu Jiayun returned the menu to the waiter. After she walked away, she responded to Bai Jiling: “Are you going to compliment me on how nice this outfit looks?”
Bai Jiling bypassed her playful defense: “I feel like you’ve become softer.”
Chu Jiayun rarely heard anyone describe her this way. Whether it was her past cold and alluring demeanor or her later reserved and calm one, she was never soft.
Bai Jiling saw the look of disapproval in the corner of her mouth and added with a smile: “With my many years of acquaintance with you, I can still see this change in you.”
She paused, hesitating to ask: “Was there anything special about the outdoor tutoring today?”
Chu Jiayun shook her head: “No, it was all routine.”
Bai Jiling waited for a while and, seeing that she didn’t elaborate, took the initiative to talk about the situation at the base.
“I saw the school doctor’s analysis report. There are more students differentiating this week. Ding Yan and Sheng Nanxi both have obvious indicator changes.”
“Is that similar to our predicted results?”
Bai Jiling nodded, but her expression wasn’t very good. She clearly had something on her mind and was worried: “Ding Yan should be an A-class Alpha, and Sheng Nanxi is basically confirmed to be an Omega. As for the class, we can’t determine it yet.”
Chu Jiayun recalled their situation back then, and her heart sank a little.
Halfway through dinner, the charm of the food finally overcame the annoyance of the training. Their conversation gradually focused on the evaluation of well-known restaurants in Jingcheng. Bai Jiling vowed to be a good host and take her out to eat her fill.
“I used to think you weren’t interested in food. After all, you even gave up milk tea. That’s astonishing willpower.”
Chu Jiayun still felt the lingering fragrance of the rose tea. Compared to milk tea, the herbal tea was still more fragrant.
“I don’t mind occasionally indulging.”
Bai Jiling smiled, ready to continue talking, when the colleague responsible for staying at the base suddenly called her.
Her face changed after listening to the call. She only said she would rush over as soon as possible and hung up.
“Jiayun, I’m afraid I have to trouble you to go back to the base with me. Sheng Nanxi is missing.”
