After the Maniacal Alpha Settled Down, She Had a Wife and Daughter - Chapter 23
Chu Jiayun’s professional explanation made it impossible for Sheng Nanzhu to insist on taking her away. While he hesitated, Bai Jiling and Yu Mu both helped to persuade him—one from the perspective of school responsibility, the other from the position of a concerned family friend. Sheng Nanzhu finally agreed to let Sheng Nanxi remain at the base.
However, his tone was different from his usual doting one. It was stiff and cold: “Then you stay at the base for a few more days and cooperate well with Instructor Chu’s work. Don’t do anything foolish again, and stop bothering everyone.”
Sheng Nanxi hadn’t looked at Sheng Nanzhu much, but she could hear the change in his attitude. Her shoulders trembled slightly, and she nodded in response: “I understand. I won’t cause any more trouble.”
Yu Sui felt truly relieved knowing Sheng Nanxi didn’t have to go back and face her parents. She didn’t know if Chu Jiayun kept Sheng Nanxi there because of the need for psychological counseling or if she guessed what Sheng Nanxi would face back at the Sheng family home.
Regardless of the reason, she was grateful to Chu Jiayun from the bottom of her heart at this moment. After all, her words were the most authoritative and her position was the most appropriate.
Sheng Nanzhu accompanied Bai Jiling and the others to the dormitory building and left after giving a few more instructions as a family member. Although Yu Sui hadn’t officially differentiated yet, a person who was likely an Alpha could not live with an Omega, so she naturally followed Yu Mu, preparing to go home.
They had come in Sheng Nanzhu’s car, and after all the hassle, Yu Mu’s driver was already waiting at the base. After Sheng Nanzhu left, Yu Sui sighed softly: “Nanxi’s brother changed his face so quickly.”
Yu Mu pursed her lips, knowing what she meant. Similar families faced similar pressures, which was one of the reasons why Yu Mu’s mental state almost collapsed back then. Therefore, she could both understand Sheng Nanzhu’s change in attitude and sympathize more with Sheng Nanxi’s grievances and sadness.
“Spend more time with Nanxi during this period. There won’t be many opportunities like this in the future.”
Yu Sui was so agitated she almost jumped out of her seat: “Sis, you’re not going to shun her too, are you?”
Yu Mu rolled her eyes at her: “I mean you’re going to study abroad after graduation. You won’t have much time to spend together.”
Yu Sui stuck out her tongue, also feeling her reaction had been a bit too strong: “Then I can ask Nanxi to apply to the same school as me. That way, we can continue to be classmates.”
“You can’t be so intimate anymore after differentiation, or it’s easy for things to happen.”
Yu Sui asked curiously, with a hint of a test: “Sis, is it true that Alpha and Omega will instantly spark a connection just by being alone?”
Yu Mu saw that she, who never cared about these things, was now asking about them proactively, indicating that she was indeed starting to mature.
She didn’t hide anything: “It’s fine as long as you control your pheromones, but young people together can’t easily control themselves completely. Otherwise, the saying ‘young and hot-blooded’ wouldn’t have lasted so long.”
“Then have you ever marked anyone?”
Yu Mu looked at her cautiously. After a long time, she finally blurted out: “Of course not. I’m not a casual person. Once I mark someone, I have to be responsible for them.”
“Then what type of Omega do you like?”
A cascade of long black hair flashed through Yu Mu’s mind. Her throat suddenly tickled a few times, but her expression remained composed: “Just let nature take its course.”
“I think Instructor Chu is great, and you admire her so much.”
Yu Mu raised her hand and tapped Yu Sui’s head: “What nonsense are you talking about? Instructor Chu is an Alpha. How could I possibly mark her? Besides, with her caliber, it would be polite of her not to suppress me.”
Yu Sui thought to herself: “It’s all an illusion, yet you’re all so seriously fooled.”
Yu Mu saw her remain silent and, thinking she was plotting something again, quickly warned her: “Don’t mess around with Instructor Chu, understood? She’s here to help you. Don’t cause trouble.”
“You shouldn’t always look at me through the lens of the past. I want to be a good person now.”
Yu Mu saw that she had indeed been much more well-behaved lately, but she had been so mischievous in the past and caused so much trouble that she was still skeptical of her statement. However, she also noticed a difference in her sister’s behavior. Recalling the eye contact between her and Chu Jiayun just now, she belatedly realized their relationship seemed to have become much closer.
Chu Jiayun’s weekend ended early. She kept Sheng Nanxi, so it made no sense for her to go back to the city to rest. Bai Jiling naturally stayed at the base as well, and the two chatted in the office late into the night.
“What’s your take on Sheng Nanxi’s situation?” Bai Jiling had just finished dealing with Chen Yinian and You Min a while ago, and now she had to worry about writing the report on Sheng Nanxi’s disappearance.
“Every one of these students is a troublemaker.”
Bai Jiling wasn’t surprised that Chu Jiayun would say this. She felt the same way. However, this kind of complaint was only to be shared between two close friends. Even in front of other instructors, it couldn’t be expressed.
“I gave you a heads-up early on. This training session wouldn’t be easy.”
Chu Jiayun didn’t feel regret: “It’s a bit more troublesome than the previous sessions, but also more unique. Everyone has a strong personality, making it a great opportunity to enrich my case studies.”
Bai Jiling was the person in charge of this training and had to undertake more administrative work. What Chu Jiayun considered a strong personality was the “disobedience” that was giving her a headache.
“No wonder the students all like you the most. You’re probably the only one who would categorize this nonsense as a ‘feature’.” Bai Jiling found Sheng Nanxi’s file, entered the differentiation result, and paused when filling in the expected departure date.
“When do you plan to arrange for Sheng Nanxi to go back?”
“It depends on the recovery of her emotions. A week is safer.”
Bai Jiling entered the date one week later in the form and finally added a summary comment. She suddenly felt a burst of emotion: “Sheng Nanxi’s performance during college was always excellent. What a pity.”
After saying that, she realized her slip of the tongue and immediately looked at Chu Jiayun, afraid that the other party would misunderstand that she looked down on Omegas. Most S-class Alphas in this society were indeed qualified to look down on others, but Bai Jiling never thought Chu Jiayun was inferior.
In her eyes, Chu Jiayun was absolutely the best of the excellent Omegas. In her heart, she was also the best of the potential candidates. Perhaps she had encountered too many sudden situations consecutively, causing her to be careless and say the wrong thing momentarily.
Chu Jiayun sat on the sofa, contemplating with her eyes lowered. She didn’t react to Bai Jiling’s slip of the tongue just now, and it was unclear if she had heard it.
Bai Jiling carefully observed for a while, then brought up a topic: “Did anything else happen between you and Yu Sui in the woods?”
Only then did Chu Jiayun slowly look up. The emotion in her eyes was indistinct, and her tone was light: “What do you think could have happened?”
Bai Jiling’s expression was relaxed, half-truthfully and half-falsely: “I just feel that your relationship seems to have become closer since you started giving her individual counseling.”
“Is that not normal?”
Bai Jiling raised an eyebrow and didn’t answer.
Chu Jiayun remained composed and didn’t deny it: “The time I spend alone with her has increased. It’s only natural for the distance between us to shorten. If our relationship had worsened, that would be cause for concern.”
“You have a point. I overthought it.” Bai Jiling was a little unwilling but knew that if Chu Jiayun didn’t want to talk, she really couldn’t get much more information out of her.
However, Chu Jiayun continued the topic about Yu Sui: “I feel she is very different from what is shown in her file. This difference comes from various aspects, and it can be seen in many subtle details.”
“Could it be because she has also differentiated?”
The school doctor’s periodic inspection report showed that the students were starting to differentiate one after another. Yu Sui was the slowest, and the changes in her various indicators were not obvious enough. However, she had been recuperating at home during this time, so maybe things had changed recently.
“Probably not yet. I haven’t sensed any threat from her.” Chu Jiayun carefully recalled the details of her interactions with Yu Sui but found no basis for it.
“You’re using such a large amount of inhibitor. Even if she differentiates to my class, she won’t pose a threat to you.”
Bai Jiling wasn’t worried that Yu Sui would pose an irresistible force to Chu Jiayun. She was concerned that when Chu Jiayun mentioned Yu Sui recently, her tone would subconsciously soften and even carry a kind of closeness that was different from when she discussed other students. This made her slightly uneasy.
Chu Jiayun shook her head. Thinking of the analysis they had deduced based on her performance, she sighed softly: “Yu Sui is the one who is truly regrettable.”
Hearing her say this, Bai Jiling’s eyes deepened, and she pressed her lips together, saying nothing more.
Sheng Nanxi returned home as scheduled a week later, her mood noticeably much better. Yu Sui specifically called her to invite her out on the weekend, but was unexpectedly rejected.
“You’re not trying to distance yourself from me already, are you?” Yu Sui recalled how her past friendships were always short-lived, inevitably creating a shadow of doubt.
Sheng Nanxi chuckled lightly on the other end of the phone: “I want to have a good talk with my family first. I’ll go out and have fun with you guys after I resolve my issues.”
Hearing her laugh, Yu Sui was also happy: “Alright, call me anytime once you’ve sorted things out.”
When Chu Jiayun came to counsel her on the weekend, Yu Sui went straight to the point: “Instructor Chu, what method did you use to cheer Nanxi up?”
“Why don’t you ask her directly?”
“She’s so busy lately, she doesn’t even have time to talk to me.”
Chu Jiayun kept her guessing: “I am not someone who casually discloses students’ privacy. No comment.”
Yu Sui made a face and thought of a solution: “I’ll take you somewhere fun, and then we can talk about Nanxi.”
Chu Jiayun thought Yu Sui would take her to another commercial center. After all, rich kids mostly preferred lively and prosperous places. She didn’t expect to go to the aquarium.
The places Yu Sui often visited after growing up were those she had longed for but never had the chance to go to as a child. The zoo and the aquarium were places she frequented. She didn’t know why, but she suddenly wanted Chu Jiayun to share her joy.
Chu Jiayun listened with interest as she introduced the creatures swimming around one by one. Although she didn’t give much response, she didn’t dampen the mood either.
After an excited period of talking, Yu Sui finally turned to her: “I’ve told you how I interact with my friends. Can you tell me how you communicated with Sheng Nanxi?”
“Yu Sui, do you take me for a child?” Chu Jiayun couldn’t help but laugh. Yu Sui thought a method that might not even work on children would work on her.
“I know you’re not easily fooled, so I tried to exchange it in the most sincere way.”
Chu Jiayun felt that she was probably dazed by the fish swimming around. How was it that she was touched by the word “sincere” from Yu Sui in a moment of distraction? It was important to remember that she had used every bit of disguise to meet Yu Sui, but in their interactions, who could say how much of it was genuine heartfelt connection?
“Sheng Nanxi’s emotional block was with her family. All she needed was to regain the confidence to communicate well with them. As I said, Sheng Nanxi has great resilience deep down. She is a strong-willed girl and will definitely stand up bravely.”
Yu Sui found Chu Jiayun’s profile outside the fish tank particularly beautiful. She subconsciously licked her lips and asked: “Then what do you think of me?”
