After the Maniacal Alpha Settled Down, She Had a Wife and Daughter - Chapter 28
Chu Jiayun went to Bai Shiqian’s research institute early this morning. There were few staff working on Sunday, making it much quieter than her previous visits.
Bai Shiqian was reading a new paper published by a foreign colleague and closed the page only after Chu Jiayun arrived: “Little Chu, have a seat.”
“Uncle Bai, I apologize for disturbing your Sunday rest.”
“Those of us in this line of work have long forgotten that weekends are fixed rest days. Everything depends on the needs of the job.”
Chu Jiayun sat down. Bai Shiqian looked at her good complexion and rosy face, nodding with satisfaction: “You’ve been recovering well in Ancheng. You look much better than you did before you left last time.”
“Unfortunately, I’ve run into a small issue.”
The small issue Chu Jiayun referred to was that her body’s sensitivity had greatly increased compared to the past after she stopped using the strong inhibitor, which made her feel uneasy. It was understandable for a patient to state their condition to a doctor without reservation, but their relationship was not purely that of patient and doctor.
It was indeed a bit awkward to talk about it face-to-face. Fortunately, Bai Shiqian understood her well and had already prepared a solution.
“Little Chu, I could immediately solve this problem by giving you another type of inhibitor, but I don’t recommend you do that.”
Chu Jiayun sounded a little anxious at his words. She had expected the problem to be solved when she came to the institute today.
“This is your body’s defense mechanism at work. You used the inhibitor for so long before, so it’s naturally retaliating.” Bai Shiqian explained with a kind smile: “Besides, sensitivity is not entirely a bad thing. It shows that your physical functions are still very normal.”
He didn’t state it more plainly, but Chu Jiayun understood.
As an S-class Omega who was both physically and mentally mature, increased sensitivity was not uncommon; it was one of the characteristics of Omegas. The most effective solution was to find an Alpha. The combination of pheromones was the radical cure to soothe the agitation.
“Uncle Bai, you also know my situation. Even if I find one temporarily, I can’t keep using this method every time to solve it.”
“Haha, don’t be so pessimistic. I’m not encouraging you to randomly find an Alpha, but you always insist on shouldering all the responsibilities yourself. You are only one person, after all. How much can you bear, and for how long?”
Chu Jiayun’s heart ached. How could she not be tired? Many times, she felt like she was about to collapse, but thinking of her sister and her deceased parents, she could only force herself to be strong and carry on.
She was not living just for herself. Some responsibilities, she couldn’t put down.
“Consider it my own undoing, but since I chose it, I won’t regret it.”
“I’ve prepared another type of comfort agent for you. It can temporarily alleviate your condition, but essentially, you still need to rely on diet and exercise to adjust your body and slowly adapt.”
“Thank you, Uncle Bai!”
“Come and pick it up on Monday afternoon. It’s still in transit. I only contacted them the day before yesterday.”
Chu Jiayun knew that Bai Shiqian had his own industry resources. He didn’t mention who he got it from, and she didn’t press. After all, these agents were not yet officially sold or circulated on the market, and asking too many questions would not be good for her.
It seemed she wouldn’t be able to get the medicine today, but Bai Shiqian was very concerned about her and asked a lot about her life.
“You’re always rushing when you come to Jingcheng. Let Jiling accompany you to look around and relax these two days.”
“Jiling is busy with the new students enrolling next semester. It’s better not to waste her time.”
“It’s not a waste to her. She might even be overjoyed. You’re having dinner together tonight, right? Ask her then. I guarantee she’ll be free.”
Seeing Bai Shiqian’s teasing and his obvious implied meaning, Chu Jiayun lowered her eyes and smiled vaguely in response.
There was no possibility of a relationship between her and Bai Jiling, or it wouldn’t have dragged on until now. Having known each other for many years, if sparks were truly going to fly, they would have been together long ago. Before Chu Jiaxi’s accident, Chu Jiayun was not someone who deliberately rejected romance; she just hadn’t met the right person.
Some people are only suitable as friends, like Bai Jiling.
Leaving the institute, she had no interest in Jingcheng’s bustling commercial area and took a taxi directly back to the Tian Yuan Hotel where she was staying this time. After taking a shower, she ordered a meal to be delivered to her room. She planned to go out and see Yu Sui after lunch.
To her surprise, she felt unwell right after eating. She was dizzy and fatigued. At first, she thought it was food poisoning, but her stomach had no discomfort.
The most noticeable feeling was her familiar agitation. It was very similar to the heightened sensitivity she had sensed before, but much more intense, making it increasingly difficult for her to control herself.
Chu Jiayun splashed cold water on her face, trying to calm down and extinguish the heat burning from within her body. She quickly realized it was useless, so she decisively took a cold shower.
Unfortunately, it only helped her stay calm for about ten minutes. As the coolness gradually faded, a strong wave of heat assaulted her reason again.
She rummaged through her bag for the standard inhibitor she carried with her—an over-the-counter item for emergencies. Unfortunately, the dosage and potency were limited, providing only slightly more effect than a cold shower.
Chu Jiayun realized she might have been drugged. She didn’t have time to wonder who would play such a malicious trick on her; she only knew she had to leave here as quickly as possible.
She knew very few people in Jingcheng. Logically, she should call Bai Jiling first, but she instinctively avoided that option.
Perhaps she didn’t want to be seen in such a pathetic state by her friend, or perhaps, when her physical instincts took over, she didn’t want an S-class Alpha to appear before her.
Or maybe, deep down in her heart, she was resistant to making any irrevocable mistake with Bai Jiling. If making a mistake was unavoidable, she wouldn’t let her good friend be the one involved.
So, she called Yu Sui, wanting her to take her away to a place where she could safely be alone.
When the call connected, she could no longer control her tone or breathing. She barely managed to give the address and quickly hung up.
Someone else might not have rushed over, but she chose to trust Yu Sui.
After all, that person had once saved her without hesitation.
**
Yu Sui indeed found the call strange. Chu Jiayun was usually aloof, but she rarely spoke with such a lack of context. There was no before or after, just an imperative tone telling her to go.
But she also genuinely felt the other party’s vulnerability and urgency, as if something genuinely critical had happened.
Yu Sui didn’t hesitate and drove straight to the Tian Yuan Hotel.
She rang the doorbell of 703 for a long time, but no one answered inside. She called Chu Jiayun, but no one picked up. Yu Sui even considered going to the hotel front desk or calling the police.
Yu Sui impatiently rang the doorbell again, even kicking the door in her frustration. Finally, someone opened the door.
“Instructor Chu, you just…”
Yu Sui stopped mid-sentence, startled by the flushed face behind the door.
Chu Jiayun’s steps were unsteady. She swayed as she turned to walk inside, but the unbearable agitation caused her to instinctively increase the movement of her body.
Yu Sui followed behind her, reaching out to help her, but was pushed away.
Chu Jiayun had her back to her, seemingly unwilling to let her see her current state. Her voice was weak and suppressed, yet with a hint of seductive delicacy: “I encountered a sudden situation and need to go to a different place to be alone for a while. Can you help me?”
Yu Sui moved around to face her, helping her sit on the edge of the bed. Her palm was startled the moment it touched her shoulder.
That damned scorching heat made her feel a little agitated too.
“Do you need to see a doctor? I can take you to the hospital. That might be safer.”
If she were in Ancheng, she might go to a familiar doctor, but in Jingcheng, Chu Jiayun couldn’t be careless. If it was discovered that she was an Omega, she could forget about returning to be an instructor.
“No!” She was feeling increasingly uncomfortable. All her physical senses were wantonly seizing everything that could be absorbed around her.
Just like the scent of ebony on Yu Sui right now, it made her even more dizzy, and even more obsessed.
Chu Jiayun tried her best to stay conscious, but her body was gradually losing control. The scent of ebony on Yu Sui seemed to be getting stronger and stronger, prying her heart open and making it swing.
She leaned on Yu Sui’s shoulder. Her long hair covered half her face, but it couldn’t hide her current alluring state.
“My inhibitor has failed, Yu Sui. Take me away.”
Yu Sui guessed the reason she refused to go to the hospital. Hearing that the inhibitor had failed, she roughly understood what was happening to her. She hesitated for a moment and slowly reached out to embrace Chu Jiayun’s waist.
The temperature was even more scorching than on her shoulder. Yu Sui’s fingertips were instantly hot and twitched several times upon contact. Her sudden movement and the slight adjustment of her hand almost instantly detonated the balloon of heat that was gradually inflating inside Chu Jiayun.
“To my place. It’s very safe there.”
The Yu family home? Chu Jiayun shook her head. Going to the Yu family in her current state would probably be even worse.
Yu Sui had already helped her up, letting her lean against her, and picked up Chu Jiayun’s backpack: “It’s my own apartment. I just started living there after graduation. It’s just me.”
By the time Chu Jiayun arrived at Yu Sui’s apartment, her reason was almost completely lost. If she weren’t holding on with her last bit of willpower, she probably would have actively embraced Yu Sui already.
Yu Sui was cautious and extremely restrained the whole way, trying her best to maintain distance. But some contact was unavoidable, such as carrying her out of the car and helping her into the room.
The room smelled only of Yu Sui. Chu Jiayun was left defenseless by the ebony scent. Trying to hold on any longer would likely be close to death.
She hadn’t expected the reaction to be so intense, so unfamiliar and unknown that it made her afraid.
Yu Sui brought her a towel to cool her down and took out her spare inhibitor. Knowing it would be ineffective for an Omega, she still wanted to try and help her.
Chu Jiayun looked at her weakly. Yu Sui’s eyes were full of anxiety and concern, but devoid of any lewdness or desire. In fact, her pheromones were beyond her control and had been released for a long time. She didn’t believe Yu Sui couldn’t smell it, nor did she believe Yu Sui, an Alpha, could remain unmoved.
But even now, Yu Sui was only concerned about her safety.
Perhaps knowing that there would be no one else here besides the two of them, Chu Jiayun’s anxiety lessened considerably, leaving only the instinctual cry.
The room was quickly filled with the scent of roses and the deep, melancholic ebony aroma. Although the overhead light was bright, the atmosphere was more charged than the kind of ambiguity that brewed in dim environments.
Chu Jiayun finally saw the color of Yu Sui’s eyes and was stunned. She couldn’t help but raise her hand to touch her face: “You’re an SS-class Alpha?”
Yu Sui had no experience in long-term restraint in front of an S-class Omega. The things taught in textbooks were merely theories. When faced with a top-tier beauty like this, all theories instantly failed.
The frequency of Yu Sui’s chest rising and falling visibly accelerated. She tightly gripped the inhibitor in her hand, preparing to cool herself down.
Chu Jiayun, however, grasped her hand: “Don’t use it.”
