After the Maniacal Alpha Settled Down, She Had a Wife and Daughter - Chapter 35
The toys designed by Yu Sui were primarily aimed at young adults or at least adolescents over the age of fifteen. Theoretically, for a child as small as Xinxin, apart from the colors, these works were not significantly more appealing than children’s toys.
But she was looking at them very intently. Seeing her struggle to look up, Yu Sui simply picked her up and held her.
“This way, Xinxin can see better, right?”
Xinxin was still a little unaccustomed to being held by anyone other than her mother and Auntie Bai. But this newly met Auntie Yu seemed very nice. She not only helped her find her marble but also wanted to give her a toy.
Fortunately, Mom was nearby, otherwise Xinxin wouldn’t dare to be so relaxed. Because Mom had also said never to pay attention to strangers who are randomly nice to you, especially those who want to give you things.
After being picked up, Xinxin was closer to the toys. She felt an urge to touch them but held back. Her two little chubby hands were tightly clasped, restraining each other, but the eagerness on her face was completely unconcealed.
Yu Sui was amused by her innocent look and proactively took down the “Light of the Galaxy” airship that Xinxin had been staring at for a long time: “Do you like this one?”
Xinxin was a little shy. After struggling for a while, she whispered a small “Mhm.”
Yu Sui had intended to give it to her, but the design of this model was quite angular, with relatively sharp edges. Most people bought it for display rather than for a child to play with daily.
“Auntie remembers. Shall Auntie design a ‘Xinxin Airship’ for you in a few days and then give it to you?”
Xinxin was a little disappointed. She thought she could get it right away. But “Xinxin Airship” sounded very special, making her full of anticipation.
Yu Sui handed the airship to Chu Jiayun and then turned to Xinxin and said: “This big airship is for adults. Mom and Auntie all ride in one like this. Xinxin is a little friend, so you should have one specifically for little friends.”
Chu Jiayun couldn’t keep her lips from twitching, amused by Yu Sui’s earnest deception of a child. She didn’t return the airship.
“Let Mom keep this. Once the Xinxin Airship is designed, Xinxin can ride the airship with Mom.”
Xinxin was so easily swayed by Yu Sui that she had completely forgotten her earlier disappointment and was now eagerly anticipating the arrival of her very own small airship.
“Thank you, Auntie.”
Yu Sui really wanted to kiss her chubby little cheek, but she knew that parents generally didn’t like others kissing their children casually. She took Xinxin two steps further and asked if there was anything else she liked.
Xinxin honestly nodded: “I like all of them.”
Chu Jiayun was afraid Yu Sui would impulsively give all the toys to Xinxin, so she quickly intervened: “This one is enough.”
Xinxin was not unhappy. She smiled sweetly: “Mom said I can’t be greedy. I’ll just have the small airship. The others can be left for other little friends.”
Yu Sui was quite surprised. Xinxin’s personality didn’t seem much like the Chu Jiayun she used to know. But she subconsciously made a comparison and felt that it wasn’t particularly similar to her own personality either.
While she was distracted, Chu Jiayun took the child from Yu Sui’s arms: “We’ve already taken up too much of your time today. Thank you for the toy you’re giving Xinxin.”
Bai Jiling had quietly moved closer to them at some point. Following Chu Jiayun’s words, she extended an invitation to Yu Sui: “How about we have dinner together?”
Chu Jiayun froze, and Yu Sui was also startled.
Bai Jiling, however, didn’t notice the tension between them. Although they met by chance in a foreign country, she was Yu Sui’s former instructor, so it was normal for her to treat her to a meal.
“I know you must be exhausted from exhibiting today, but we came here from the Netherlands to see the exhibition and are returning tomorrow, so we only have time tonight.”
Yu Sui recalled the medical forum Yu Mu had mentioned. She knew Bai Shiqian would be there and didn’t expect them to be attending as well.
Yu Sui glanced at the silent Chu Jiayun, then at Xinxin, who was secretly touching the airship in her mother’s hand, and readily agreed: “Okay, see you tonight.”
Back at the hotel, Bai Jiling noticed Chu Jiayun’s mood was still off and only then realized there was a problem. After Xinxin fell asleep, she called Chu Jiayun into the living room and quietly asked her: “Do you have an issue with Yu Sui?”
Chu Jiayun subconsciously crossed her arms and looked at her: “No. Why do you ask?”
“Your mood has been a little off since you saw her…”
“I was just scared by Xinxin.”
Bai Jiling had apologized the moment they returned. Chu Jiayun knew she couldn’t entirely blame her. Moreover, her mind was in chaos from Yu Sui’s sudden appearance, and she didn’t have the extra energy to dwell on it.
“So, are you going tonight?”
Chu Jiayun certainly didn’t want to go. Avoiding meeting Yu Sui would protect Xinxin’s secret. But Bai Jiling had extended the invitation, and Yu Sui had agreed. If she suddenly backed out, wouldn’t it raise more suspicion?
She rubbed her forehead: “After Xinxin wakes up.”
She could only try her best to ensure this dinner went smoothly. They would return to the Netherlands tomorrow, and her interaction with Yu Sui would decrease. She also saw at the exhibition today that Yu Sui had adapted well to her current life. She could do what she loved, freely enjoying the thrill of pursuing her dreams.
Her eyes sparkled when she introduced those toys.
The buyer whose consultation had been interrupted by Xinxin’s appearance had been watching the whole time. He personally witnessed that Yu Sui’s design was attractive even to a child that small, which suddenly broadened his perspective.
But Yu Sui didn’t agree to his proposal to develop toys for younger children. The man was perplexed. He had also established sales channels in the Chinese market over the past few years. He could understand Chinese, just not speak it very well. Didn’t that little airship design belong to a child’s toy?
Yu Sui stated honestly: “That one is a custom design for a child.”
“Custom is fine. The price can be set higher. Sales volume is not the primary factor.”
Yu Sui had to be more direct: “It’s designed exclusively for Xinxin.”
**
Yu Sui arrived at the restaurant early that evening. Bai Jiling messaged her saying they would be late because she needed to bathe Xinxin. Yu Sui saw a photo Bai Jiling had just posted on her social media, which only showed Xinxin’s small hand and no sign of Chu Jiayun.
No wonder no one had heard from Chu Jiayun for so many years. It seemed Bai Jiling was also intentionally helping her keep it a secret. If the child wasn’t Bai Jiling’s, based on the age, she was likely conceived during the period when Chu Jiayun suddenly disappeared.
And the image of her intense embrace with Chu Jiayun during that summer vacation once again filled her mind. Although she hadn’t deliberately recalled it, she had never forgotten it. She had fully differentiated by then, and according to the capabilities of an SS-class Alpha, it was impossible for any other Alpha to successfully mark her in a short period of time.
Even another SS-class Alpha might not be able to successfully override her mark within three months. This was supported by research data.
Yu Sui became increasingly certain. Moreover, she felt a peculiar intimacy toward Xinxin, more like the draw of a blood connection. Everything pointed to the speculation in her heart: Xinxin might be her daughter.
Yu Sui was momentarily speechless to describe her feelings. An unexpected reunion with a former lover after years of separation. Even though the other person repeatedly insisted that the encounter was merely an indulgence, in Yu Sui’s heart, she had feelings for Chu Jiayun at the time.
Now, not only had the former lover appeared, but a daughter had also materialized, a child who was already old enough to appreciate her designed toys. Yu Sui reminisced about the feeling of holding Xinxin today, which was truly magical.
Just then, Chu Jiayun and the others arrived. Xinxin had changed clothes, and the scent of her bath gel mixed with the smell of milk made Yu Sui involuntarily smile.
Xinxin proactively greeted her: “Hello, Auntie Yu.”
She then sat in the restaurant’s provided high chair, obediently letting her mother tie a bib around her.
Yu Sui mostly conversed with Bai Jiling, discussing their respective lives and careers over the past few years. Bai Jiling talked about the development and changes in Jingcheng, while Yu Sui talked about her life as an overseas student.
Chu Jiayun was continuously looking after Xinxin, carefully feeding her, afraid she would get tomato sauce all over her mouth. Yu Sui’s gaze occasionally swept over. Chu Jiayun was aware of it, but she didn’t want to or know how to respond, so she focused on her daughter, pretending not to notice.
Bai Jiling noticed that Yu Sui seemed particularly interested in Xinxin. She guessed Yu Sui was also shocked by the sudden revelation that Instructor Chu had a daughter. After all, virtually none of the students knew about this before, so Yu Sui’s surprise was normal.
Yu Sui didn’t ask any inappropriate questions all evening. The atmosphere flowed slowly under a facade of peace. After Xinxin finished eating, Yu Sui suddenly asked: “Xinxin, when is your birthday?”
“February.”
Children were very good at remembering their special days. Xinxin might be vague about the exact date, but the month was crystal clear, as she could blow out candles after counting to the second finger past the New Year.
After she spoke, Chu Jiayun’s hand noticeably paused. She tightly pursed her lips, terrified that Yu Sui would bring up a topic that would make her even more flustered.
Yu Sui observed her reaction, her eyes curving into a smile as she said to Xinxin: “Then I’ll put a February mark on the airship for you. And next year on your birthday, Auntie will give you a new gift.”
Xinxin clapped her hands happily. Although she didn’t understand why this Auntie Yu, whom she had just met today, was so nice to her, Mom didn’t say she was a bad person and was even eating with her, so she was naturally delighted and wanted everything.
Yu Sui then turned to Bai Jiling and spoke in a joking tone: “Instructor Bai, look, Instructor Chu’s daughter is already this big. Aren’t you considering marriage?”
Bai Jiling felt a little bitter. If she could give up her obsession with Chu Jiayun and accept someone else, she wouldn’t still be single now.
Unfortunately, even though Chu Jiayun’s child was this big, Bai Jiling was still silently dreaming of marrying her.
“Fate hasn’t arrived yet. I can’t force it. What about you? Do you have a partner?”
Earlier, they had discussed academics and careers. Hearing Yu Sui’s plans, it seemed she had no intention of returning to Jingcheng. Bai Jiling thought Yu Sui might have found a partner abroad and was preparing to settle down.
Yu Sui subtly glanced at Chu Jiayun, noting that she wasn’t wearing a ring on her hand. Her own hand was also bare.
“I’m also still waiting for fate.”
No matter how slowly it went, the dinner eventually had to end. Yu Sui asked for Chu Jiayun’s contact information, saying she needed to know more about Xinxin’s preferences when designing the small airship.
To her surprise, Chu Jiayun refused: “She likes your design. Just follow your own ideas. She is not a child who makes demands.”
Yu Sui dared not push too hard. Recalling how this person could hide away to give birth to a child all by herself back then, disappearing now would be even easier. Just thinking about it gave her a headache. She had to take a roundabout, softer approach to relax Chu Jiayun’s guard first.
“Then I’ll take artistic license.”
After the exhibition, Yu Sui had originally planned to fly directly back to school, but now she had changed her mind. She called Yu Mu: “Sister, are you still attending the medical forum in the Netherlands?”
“Yes. Are you finally thinking about me?”
Yu Sui chuckled softly: “Then I’m coming to you.”
