After the Maniacal Alpha Settled Down, She Had a Wife and Daughter - Chapter 36
Since returning from Brussels, Bai Jiling noticed that Chu Jiayun had been preoccupied, often spaced out unintentionally. Although she couldn’t discern any specific worry, she felt that it wasn’t a good sign.
Whenever Chu Jiayun was preoccupied, she would hold her daughter tighter. Even Xinxin sometimes couldn’t help but say that her mother was too clingy.
Bai Jiling thought it was probably still triggered by Xinxin getting lost at the toy exhibition, but her intuition suggested a deeper reason. However, the last time she asked, Chu Jiayun refused to say anything, leaving her worried yet also a bit frustrated.
Years of friendship, combined with the care and support she had given the mother and daughter over the years, seemed to still not have truly reached Chu Jiayun’s heart. Sometimes, she wondered what exactly she was holding on to after persisting for so long.
Xinxin couldn’t feel the undercurrent of emotions between the adults. She only knew that Mom was watching her more closely recently. Although she loved it when her mother hugged her, being constantly held was also a bit bothersome.
For instance, now, she really wanted to look at the airship that Auntie Yu had given her again. Even though the Xinxin Airship hadn’t been designed yet, the adult’s airship was also very beautiful, and she couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Chu Jiayun was packing her luggage. Although they only stayed in Brussels for one night, the amount of stuff to bring was never small when traveling with a child. Since Xinxin was born, their home had become much messier than before, but compared to most similar families, it was still neat and tidy.
Xinxin scampered from the bedside to her mother’s leg, hugging it and employing her usual tactic. First, she called out “Mom” sweetly, then she pressed her little face against Chu Jiayun’s trousers, and then wriggled like a small plump worm.
Chu Jiayun knew instantly that she wanted something. Suppressing a smile, she pretended not to know and deliberately teased her: “Xinxin, Mom can’t do anything if you hug her leg like that.”
“Mom.” Xinxin called out softly again. Her face was still pressed against her, but her hands were slightly loosened.
“What does Xinxin want to do?”
Xinxin hesitated for a moment, her eyes continuously darting towards the separate box next to Chu Jiayun’s suitcase. It was the toy Yu Sui gave her. The packaging had a recognizable stylized “Yu” on it.
“I want to play with the airship.”
Xinxin was very eager and finally couldn’t help but voice her wish. She had only touched it at the exhibition that day, and Mom hadn’t allowed her to touch it since, saying she was afraid Xinxin would hurt her hand.
“Didn’t we agree that this one is only for looking at? We’ll let Xinxin play with it once the Xinxin Airship is designed.”
Chu Jiayun sat on the edge of the bed. Xinxin took the opportunity to climb onto her mother’s lap, wrapped her arms around her neck, and wrinkled her little face: “I’ll just look.”
Seeing her face full of anticipation, Chu Jiayun couldn’t bear to flatly refuse. She had looked closely at the design later. The lines were smooth and indeed exquisite. But for a child as young as Xinxin, she wouldn’t be aware of the danger of the sharp edges.
“Then you have to promise Mom you’ll only look and not touch, okay?”
Xinxin was obviously a little sad that she couldn’t touch such a beautiful airship. But compared to the distress of not being able to even look at it, she compromised.
Chu Jiayun smiled and took the airship out of the box, placing it on the coffee table. Xinxin immediately ran over, propped her chin on her hands, and examined it carefully.
Chu Jiayun sat beside her, afraid of any oversight. She couldn’t bear it if her daughter got hurt accidentally. Since becoming a mother, she had read many parenting books and kept up with relevant news. Many young children have accidents at home due to parents’ lack of attention.
Burns, falls, or accidentally ingesting harmful substances when alone—Chu Jiayun tried her best to prevent all of these. Fortunately, Xinxin had a huge advantage: she could mostly keep her promises. Even if she couldn’t do it perfectly due to limited ability, she would never intentionally break her word.
Xinxin leaned further forward, almost half her body resting on the coffee table, but she never reached out her hand. Chu Jiayun could see that her daughter genuinely liked it. Not wanting her to only look, she actually started to hope the Xinxin Airship would be designed quickly.
Before, she thought Xinxin only had eyes similar to Yu Sui’s, but when Xinxin was held in Yu Sui’s arms picking out toys one by one, Chu Jiayun realized that the resemblance went beyond just the eyes.
Chu Jiayun felt that Yu Sui was already suspicious. Otherwise, why would she proactively ask Xinxin’s birthday, and the look in her eyes clearly contained other implications. Chu Jiayun hadn’t figured out how to face her and was also afraid that Yu Sui would take her daughter away once she knew the truth.
“Mom, can you ask Auntie Yu to finish the Xinxin Airship faster?” Xinxin couldn’t resist making this “unreasonable request.” Her two small fingers stuck together, slowly pulling apart a tiny gap, truly only asking to be a little bit faster.
Chu Jiayun smiled and stroked her head: “She will definitely be as fast as possible.”
**
In the first two days after Yu Mu arrived in the Netherlands, she was busy communicating and networking with other industry leaders. By the time she had a moment to spare, Bai Jiling and Chu Jiayun had gone to Brussels. Now that they were finally back, Yu Mu proactively invited them to dinner.
But when she saw Xinxin, led in by Chu Jiayun, she completely lost the composure of a strong businesswoman. Her smile froze.
“Instructor Chu, is this… you and Director Bai’s…”
Chu Jiayun knew what she was mistaken about and explained: “Xinxin is my daughter. She has nothing to do with Jiling.”
Yu Mu recovered and apologized repeatedly: “I spoke incorrectly. It’s just that I haven’t heard from you for several years. I was completely stunned just now.”
How could two Alphas have a child?
She smiled and greeted Xinxin. The little girl was really cute and delicate, but she looked a bit familiar.
Chu Jiayun prompted Xinxin to say hello: “This is Auntie Yu.”
Xinxin curiously went “Hmm?” and asked: “Is this also an Auntie Yu?”
Yu Mu found it amusing and asked her: “Do you know another Auntie Yu?”
Xinxin nodded: “I also know the Auntie Yu who gave me the airship.”
Chu Jiayun had to explain: “We ran into Yu Sui when we went to the exhibition in Brussels. Xinxin liked an airship, so Yu Sui gave it to her.”
Yu Mu understood: “I’ve been so busy. So you really went to the toy exhibition in Brussels.”
She then looked at Xinxin: “Xinxin, the Auntie Yu you’re talking about is my sister. She’s coming tomorrow. Are you happy?”
Xinxin felt quite happy, but Chu Jiayun’s heart sank, feeling a sense of panic.
Bai Jiling asked Yu Mu: “Is she interested in the medical forum too? Is she planning to return to help you?”
Yu Mu sighed: “If she were willing to come back, I wouldn’t have to work this hard. She’s insisting on pursuing her own dreams, and I have no choice but to support her with tangible actions. She originally said she would return to school after the exhibition, which is why I specifically went out of my way to find her first.”
If she had known Yu Sui was coming to the Netherlands, she wouldn’t have made that unnecessary trip.
Chu Jiayun quietly listened to their conversation, growing wary of Yu Sui’s sudden decision to come to the Netherlands.
By evening, Chu Jiayun’s unease became increasingly apparent. Her daughter was sleeping soundly. She quietly watched Xinxin for a while, tucked her in, and softly got out of bed.
Her phone vibrated. It was an unknown number. Who would be looking for her so late?
She didn’t answer and soon received a text message from the number that had just called.
【I’m outside your door. Please come out.】
Through the peephole, Chu Jiayun saw Yu Sui. She was startled, not expecting her to have rushed over overnight.
She took a deep breath, opened the door, and had no intention of letting Yu Sui in: “It’s so late. What do you need?”
Yu Sui’s eyes were deeper than before, filled with complex meaning. But when she spoke, her tone was much softer: “I just arrived from Brussels. There are some things I want to ask you.”
“It’s too late tonight. Let’s talk tomorrow.”
“This is very important to me. I can’t wait until tomorrow.”
Chu Jiayun rarely saw Yu Sui being this assertive and persistent in front of her. Her unease deepened. She lowered her gaze, avoiding eye contact, as if she already knew what Yu Sui was going to say.
Seeing her evasive attitude, Yu Sui’s heart ached. She remembered that four years ago, the other person had also avoided her like this.
She suppressed her sadness and got straight to the point: “I just want to know clearly, whose child is Xinxin?”
Chu Jiayun’s hand, gripping the inside of the door, tightened, but her expression remained largely unchanged, just as before.
“She is my daughter.”
“I’m asking who the other person is?”
Chu Jiayun felt a surge of annoyance, but also worried about waking her daughter, so she kept her voice low: “Yu Sui, this is my private matter. I don’t need to explain it to you.”
After speaking, she made a motion to close the door, but Yu Sui forcefully pushed against it.
Chu Jiayun couldn’t push back, so she gave up.
“You know why I’m asking this. I don’t want to pry into your private life. I just want to confirm if Xinxin is my…”
“You don’t need to know these things.”
She didn’t directly deny it. Yu Sui practically knew the answer. Her previous suspicion had become true, but her mind was in turmoil.
“Does it really not matter? Then if I ask for a paternity test, and I’m wrong, I’m willing to bear all the responsibility. Would that be acceptable?”
Chu Jiayun refused without a second thought: “There’s no need for that, and I won’t agree to such a request.”
Yu Sui shook her head helplessly: “Isn’t that enough to tell me the answer?”
Chu Jiayun pursed her lips. In truth, they both knew the facts were already clear.
Everything came too suddenly. Yu Sui looked at the person with lowered eyes in front of her. Looking at that familiar yet unfamiliar figure, carrying a faint scent of rose, she was unable to speak.
After a moment of silence, Yu Sui spoke gloomily: “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“That incident was an accident to begin with.”
“The incident was an accident, but the child is real!”
Just then, a small figure rushed out of the room. Xinxin woke up and found her mother wasn’t beside her, which immediately woke her up in a panic.
She rubbed her eyes and searched from the room. Seeing the light at the doorway, she followed it.
“Mom, Mom, where did you go?”
No matter how sensible Xinxin was, she was only a three-year-old child. At night, she would still be scared, lonely, and want to find her mother.
Chu Jiayun picked her up, afraid she would get cold wearing only her pajamas.
Xinxin was surprised to see Yu Sui and was startled: “Auntie Yu?”
Yu Sui was even more agitated seeing Xinxin now than before, but she forgot how to react, simply staring at Xinxin.
A rush of emotions overwhelmed her. Her eyes turned red, startling Xinxin.
Chu Jiayun was afraid she would say something inappropriate in front of Xinxin. She said coldly: “Let’s talk about whatever you have to say tomorrow. Xinxin needs to sleep now.”
Yu Sui nodded blankly: “Okay, you two get some rest.”
Xinxin was still sleepy. She leaned on Chu Jiayun’s shoulder, waved at Yu Sui, and was carried back inside by her mother, yawning.
Yu Sui returned to her room, unable to sit still, pacing around until she felt dizzy. But she couldn’t suppress the excitement in her heart and couldn’t confide in anyone.
Finally, she had no choice but to pull out her design paper and continuously write on it: Daughter! Daughter!
