- Chapter 4 - What Kind of Person
Chu Jiayun’s arrival quickly caused a small stir among the students. Yu Sui didn’t have to listen closely to guess what they were whispering about. In the past, the original owner would have been the one leading the ruckus in such a situation. Today, she was much quieter.
Out of habit, as Chu Jiayun walked closer, the surrounding students’ gazes fell on Yu Sui, waiting for her to step up as she usually would and get close to the instructors on their behalf.
Although it was semi-military management and the relationship was between students and instructors, the students at the base all came from good family backgrounds and didn’t have many psychological fears. They were like this at school, and they hadn’t changed much here. The rebellious troublemaker Yu Sui was naturally their leader.
But they waited for a while and didn’t see any action from Yu Sui. Not only was she standing there stiffly, but her eyes didn’t even seem to be looking at Chu Jiayun much.
Ren Xuran, who had already seen Chu Jiayun in the morning, nudged Yu Sui: “What’s wrong? Did Instructor Chu cast a spell on you?”
Yu Sui looked sideways and retorted in a low voice: “How is that possible?”
“Then why do you look like you’re frozen in place when you see her? You’re not reacting at all.”
It wasn’t that she wasn’t reacting. At the very least, Yu Sui really wanted to run away, preferably to a place where Chu Jiayun’s gaze couldn’t reach.
“What am I supposed to do? The meeting is about to start. What can I do?”
Ren Xuran clicked her tongue, still confused. Yu Sui usually loved to be the center of attention in crowded places. How could she easily give up an opportunity like a meeting?
Just as she was about to say more, she heard the sound of high heels.
Several instructors passed by them. Ren Xuran smiled and nodded, politely saying, “Hello, instructors.”
After they passed, Ren Xuran grabbed Yu Sui’s arm and recalled the details of their brief encounter: “Why do I feel like Instructor Chu was looking at us just now?”
Yu Sui slightly lifted her eyelids and said nonchalantly, “It’s probably just a professional habit. She takes a few extra looks to understand more.”
“That makes sense. But her gaze… Tsk tsk, there’s something to it.”
Yu Sui had, of course, noticed Chu Jiayun’s more obvious scrutiny compared to the other instructors. And while it fell on both her and Ren Xuran, it was more heavily focused on her.
Thinking about the one-on-one assessment tomorrow, Yu Sui felt even worse.
“She’s just a little prettier than the other instructors. Do you all have to be so obsessed with her?”
Ren Xuran’s eyes widened, as if she couldn’t believe those words came from Yu Sui: “Are you having amnesia? You were the most interested in her before. Every day after school, you’d call us to the restaurant, and you’d spend the whole meal talking about her.”
Yu Sui knew the original owner was a bit curious about Chu Jiayun, but she didn’t know it was that obvious.
Fortunately, Sheng Nanxi, having just finished her work, came over and saved her: “Instructor Chu is a legend at the base. It’s not a big deal for us to be curious. But now that we’ve seen her in person, if we still act the same, wouldn’t that be impolite?”
After hearing that, Ren Xuran could only purse her lips and step back to find a seat: “Okay, I’m the impolite one.”
Sheng Nanxi looked at the person next to her who was deep in thought: “Are you okay?”
Yu Sui shook her head: “I’m fine.”
What was constantly replaying in her mind was the brief eye contact she had with Chu Jiayun just now. Because the distance was so close, she had no choice but to meet that seemingly ordinary gaze that felt like it had its own whirlpool.
Yu Sui tried her best to stay calm and not show any weaknesses. But she had never truly been in contact with such a high-level Omega before. Some physiological responses were simply unavoidable. Even though she hadn’t differentiated yet, she had to admit that the deeply disguised Chu Jiayun’s inherent charm was still not to be underestimated.
It was fine for now, but if she were to be looked at like that a few more times after she differentiated, she didn’t know who would be the one to suffer. As Yu Sui thought, she reached up and touched the back of her neck. Even though there was nothing there yet, she still felt a chill.
She made a silent resolution to avoid eye contact with Chu Jiayun as much as possible!
The meeting officially began with Bai Jiling as the host, and the atmosphere was quite relaxed. The instructors on stage introduced themselves one by one. They all sounded impressive, and whether the students knew them or not, the audience gave them warm applause.
When it was Chu Jiayun’s turn, the hall suddenly fell silent, with only the sound of a collective, quiet gasp of awe. Yu Sui could imagine what those people were thinking—it was nothing more than the praises Ren Xuran had been rattling on about earlier.
She lowered her eyes, not looking at the stage, but she had to listen carefully. Knowing your enemy was the only way to successfully avoid them.
Chu Jiayun didn’t say much. After a brief self-introduction, she explained the assessment for tomorrow.
When the meeting ended, Bai Jiling and the instructors left directly from the back of the stage, reportedly to prepare for the start of their work tomorrow.
There were only thirty students in this training session. Most of them didn’t leave immediately and all gathered around Yu Sui.
With so many eyes on her, Yu Sui felt a bit of a headache.
Ding Yan smiled and asked her, “Princess Yu, what are your thoughts?”
Yu Sui gave her a sidelong glance: “What thoughts?”
“Is Instructor Chu as beautiful and cool as you thought? And who do you think is prettier, her or Instructor Bai?”
“Well, that would be…” Yu Sui’s words trailed off, and she changed her mind, “They’re both very beautiful, each in their own way. It’s not fair to compare them.”
Ding Yan turned to the other students and smiled: “How rare. Yu Sui is actually complimenting someone, and she’s using such diplomatic words.”
Everyone was used to the original owner’s sharp critiques, so they found this new side of her strange but also refreshing.
Yu Sui frowned, impatiently breaking free from the crowd and leaving. Back in the dorm, her expression finally softened. Seeing Sheng Nanxi still busy with class matters, she felt a bit too idle.
“Nanxi, what do you think of Instructor Chu?”
Sheng Nanxi recalled the scene when she delivered the list earlier and answered honestly: “She’s not super friendly, but she’s not hard to get along with. I think she has a gentle heart beneath her cold exterior.”
Yu Sui was surprised: “You’ve only known her for a short time, and you already understand her so well?”
“No, I’m just going by a feeling.”
Yu Sui shook her head and muttered softly: “Then you still don’t know her well enough.”
If Sheng Nanxi knew that she was disguised and that she was here to “do bad things,” she probably wouldn’t think she was so gentle.
Sheng Nanxi also thought Yu Sui was a little different today and took the opportunity to ask: “What about you? What kind of person do you think Instructor Chu is?”
“Probably just a decent-looking person.”
“That’s it?”
Yu Sui nodded: “That’s it.”
Sheng Nanxi pursed her lips and hesitated before deciding to advise her good friend: “A Sui, we’re about to differentiate and become mature adults.”
Yu Sui looked up at her. She knew that.
“So, mature people can’t be so superficial and only look at appearances.”
Yu Sui was speechless. She wanted to say that aside from Chu Jiayun’s appearance, a mature person who saw her true nature would probably just want to remain a superficial one.
Seeing Yu Sui fall silent again, Sheng Nanxi remembered the things she had said before and considered another possibility, becoming even more worried: “Don’t get any ideas about Instructor Chu. She’s an Alpha, and she’s much older than us.”
Yu Sui was at a loss for words but didn’t want to make things worse, so she just grumbled that she understood.

The next morning, after roll call, Sheng Nanxi dutifully started notifying students in reverse numerical order to go to Instructor Chu’s office.
Each person was allotted fifteen minutes. Even with a lunch break, it would be almost closing time before it was Yu Sui’s turn. She leisurely ate her meal and went back to the dorm to read a book. Only when the alarm Sheng Nanxi had set for her went off did she slowly start to get ready.
Sheng Nanxi knew her habit of procrastinating, so she had specifically set the alarm for an hour and a half before her appointment, giving her enough time to get her appearance in order. After all, the assessment was only fifteen minutes, and a good first impression was important for getting a high score.
No one wanted to get a bad score on the first assessment. They might end up being a “focus case,” which would be terrible.
Yu Sui strolled down to the office building and saw that Sheng Nanxi hadn’t gone up yet. In normal student number order, she was first, and Sheng Nanxi was second. Sheng Nanxi shouldn’t have been there at this time.
“Ren Xuran had a bit of an issue, which caused a delay, so things are running a little late.”
In fact, it wasn’t just Ren Xuran. Many students took longer than expected. By the time Sheng Nanxi came out, it was already past the regular closing time for the instructors.
Yu Sui had been watching the clock, thinking she could just wait until tomorrow morning. To her surprise, Chu Jiayun came out of the office with Sheng Nanxi.
After giving Sheng Nanxi a few instructions, her gaze fell on Yu Sui, and the corners of her lips curved into a smile so slight it was almost unnoticeable: “Yu Sui, it’s your turn now.”
“Instructor Chu, how about I come back tomorrow morning? I don’t want to keep you from going home.”
“It’s alright. I can work overtime.”
Yu Sui was a little disappointed. It seemed she couldn’t avoid it today.
Chu Jiayun turned and led her toward the office, continuing her explanation: “My schedule wasn’t well-planned today, and it delayed you. How about I treat you to dinner afterward?”
Yu Sui, following the instructions, sat in the chair opposite her. When she heard about dinner, she rejected the offer without a second thought.
“You don’t have to, Instructor Chu. We’re the ones causing you trouble.”
Sensing Yu Sui’s slight nervousness, Chu Jiayun didn’t press the matter. She took out a blank folder from the drawer and prepared to start the assessment.
Yu Sui took a silent, deep breath. Although she had already messaged Ding Yan and the others outside and knew that the assessment questions were mostly basic, and even the questions tailored to different students were only touched upon without making them uncomfortable.
Yu Sui, however, didn’t dare to be careless or show any obvious emotions, afraid that Chu Jiayun would remember her too well.
She had just observed that Chu Jiayun was wearing a dark blue suit today, more like her usual work attire. The tailored waist showed off her beauty more than yesterday’s instructor uniform.
The collar didn’t seem as high as yesterday’s, and she didn’t seem as aloof.
Yu Sui’s thoughts wandered, and she was brought back by Chu Jiayun’s voice: “Are you ready? If so, we can begin.”
Yu Sui nodded, indicating she was ready.
Chu Jiayun first gave a brief overview of the content and purpose of today’s assessment, repeatedly emphasizing that Yu Sui should relax and answer in her most authentic state.
“This is just an assessment to give me a comprehensive, basic understanding of you. The results won’t affect your training performance, so there’s no need to worry.”
She said this to almost every student before the assessment began. Yu Sui was a little impressed. Chu Jiayun was really dedicated. She had said it thirty times, and her attitude was still so good.
