- After the Maniacal Alpha Settled Down, She Had a Wife and Daughter
- Chapter 5 - Initial Probing
The first few questions were similar to what Yu Sui had heard from other students. They were boilerplate, or questions she had encountered in other psychological tests, so they weren’t difficult. Chu Jiayun didn’t show any doubt or dissatisfaction with Yu Sui’s answers; as long as she answered, she recorded it in her file.
After a few questions, the atmosphere became a bit more relaxed than in the beginning. Yu Sui didn’t want to make eye contact with Chu Jiayun, so she fixated her gaze on the plastic clipboard in her hand. The wooden clipboard didn’t look special at first, but after a while, she noticed that the wood grain imitation was surprisingly realistic.
The office was very quiet, with a faint aroma of essential oils, which made it feel softer than the other instructors’ offices. Yu Sui thought this was probably because she knew Chu Jiayun’s secret. Ding Yan and the others certainly didn’t see it this way.
While waiting outside, besides asking about the assessment questions, Yu Sui had also heard many people praise Instructor Chu’s various small details and voted her the most beautiful Alpha.
Chu Jiayun turned to the next page of the file, but the rustle of the paper didn’t attract Yu Sui’s attention. She stopped writing, lifted her eyes slightly, and easily saw through Yu Sui’s distracted state.
However, she didn’t expose Yu Sui’s wandering mind. Instead, she maintained the same tone as before: “Next, we’ll begin the second part of the assessment. This part is designed based on your information and school performance. It’s more targeted, but the results still won’t affect your final grade.”
When she said this, there was a new meaning in her eyes. It wasn’t obvious, but if Yu Sui hadn’t already been on guard, she probably wouldn’t have noticed.
Once a person has a preconceived notion, they subconsciously look for every related clue. For example, Yu Sui now felt that Instructor Chu had been staring at her face and neck several times.
Her heart inexplicably tightened. Yu Sui didn’t want her nervousness to show, so she lightly tapped her knee to calm herself down.
She took a steady breath and answered in a low voice: “Okay, I understand.”
Chu Jiayun looked away, and the subtle, needling discomfort Yu Sui had been feeling instantly vanished, as if it had been her imagination.
“How do you view relationships between classmates?”
Yu Sui was about to answer truthfully, but then she remembered the original owner’s arrogant reputation at school and “falsely” said: “For close relationships, I interact and communicate more. For regular relationships, I’m just a nodding acquaintance.”
Chu Jiayun’s expression didn’t change. She continued to record notes diligently as before.
“How do you view the relationship between leaders and followers?”
“A person with leadership and organizational skills can bring together people with the same goals, optimize resource allocation, and help everyone achieve their goals faster and better. Followers are those who lack these abilities but still have a need for the goal, so they are an indispensable part of success. But there are often only one or two leaders, while there are many followers.”
Yu Sui thought for a moment and added, “Essentially, everyone is working to better achieve a goal, but due to differences in resources or ability, their roles are different.”
Chu Jiayun gave her another look but didn’t say anything, continuing to write.
“How do you resolve disagreements with others?”
“By agreeing to disagree.”
“Can you elaborate?”
Yu Sui knew that the original owner’s style was to first intimidate, then bribe. If that didn’t work, she would use her family’s influence to suppress them.
However, this was completely against her own beliefs and was difficult to say out loud.
Seeing her hesitation, Chu Jiayun tilted her head slightly and asked gently, “Can’t you say?”
“I think it depends on the situation and the scale of the disagreement. If the disagreement itself doesn’t affect me much, then there’s no need to be too serious about everything. But if it’s a serious disagreement or one that affects major interests, then a more proactive approach is necessary.”
She danced around the question, still refusing to state the original owner’s crude and simple methods.
Fortunately, Chu Jiayun didn’t ask her to go into more detail.
“Alright, that concludes the assessment for today. Thank you for your cooperation.”
Yu Sui was a little surprised. Was it over? She had thought Chu Jiayun would use this opportunity to probe deeper, especially since she understood psychological observation and had such a legitimate reason to do so.
It was a relief that she had stopped now. If she had kept asking, Yu Sui felt she would have cracked. After all, the original owner’s past actions were things she, as an orphan, would never even have dared to think about.
Before Chu Jiayun could change her mind, Yu Sui quickly stood up, grabbed the backpack at her feet, and said: “I’ve delayed your time to go home, Instructor Chu. Thank you.”
Just like when she had seen Sheng Nanxi off, Chu Jiayun walked Yu Sui to the office door and even to the top of the stairs. By this time, most of the instructors had already gone home, and the doors of the offices in the hallway were mostly closed.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to treat you to dinner?”
Yu Sui tightened her grip on her backpack strap and tried to give an innocent smile: “Thank you for the offer, Instructor. Sheng Nanxi has probably already prepared everything.”
“Then go back soon. Be safe on the way, and I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow, Instructor Chu.”
After watching Yu Sui’s figure disappear down the stairs, Chu Jiayun returned to her office to organize the day’s assessment results before heading back to her dorm. She would stay at the base’s instructor dorms during the week and only return to the city on weekends.
Fortunately, the instructors’ dorms were better than the students’. They were private rooms, so Chu Jiayun didn’t have to share her space with anyone. However, the building was occupied by Alpha instructors, who were all mature adults, some even married with children.
After a whole day of controlling her pheromones, she would inevitably release some before she went to bed. Even if it was unconscious, it was a form of torment for an Omega like Chu Jiayun.
Bai Jiling suddenly came out of her office and called out to Chu Jiayun, who was passing by: “Not off work yet?”
“Just finished the assessment. I’ll head back after I’m done tidying up.”
“Have you had dinner?”
“Not yet.”
Bai Jiling locked her office door and followed Chu Jiayun to hers. As soon as she entered, she was drawn to the aroma in the room: “That smells nice.”
Chu Jiayun typed Yu Sui’s assessment results into her computer. She was a bit more relaxed around Bai Jiling. “If you like it, I’ll bring you some tomorrow.”
She had brought it with her from Ancheng. It was made by a craftsperson she knew. It was hard to find, but she liked it a lot.
Bai Jiling walked over and sat down in the chair Yu Sui had just been in.
“How were the assessment results today?”
“Everything’s normal.”
“Did you find any targets worth paying attention to?”
Chu Jiayun shook her head: “This is just a basic assessment. It doesn’t show much in-depth information.”
“The key names that were flagged before—did you find any problems during the assessment?”
“Besides Ren Xuran’s overly emotional reaction, the others were pretty normal.”
Bai Jiling thought for a moment, then asked, “What about Yu Sui?”
“There’s a slight discrepancy between her and the information in her file, but it doesn’t seem to be a major problem right now.”
Bai Jiling accompanied Chu Jiayun to the cafeteria for dinner, then saw her back to her dorm. Bai Jiling was the director and had her own separate living quarters, but she also had a dorm room in this building, although she rarely used it.
Chu Jiayun said goodbye to her downstairs: “Remember to let me know before your physical assessment ends tomorrow morning.”
This wasn’t the first time Bai Jiling and she had worked together. Today was the official first day of training, but the schedule was simple. Besides the psychological assessment, there were almost no other training courses. Students were just given a course schedule and some materials to familiarize themselves with.
The real hellish training would begin tomorrow. The morning would consist of a physical assessment, followed by psychological pressure training, and then a review session in the evening.
“Aren’t you going to let me go up and get some of that essential oil?”
Chu Jiayun glanced at the time: “It’s 8:30 already. I’ll bring it to you tomorrow.”
Bai Jiling sighed softly: “It’s because it’s so late. Are you sure you’re okay going back by yourself?”
“It’s not the first time this has happened. I can handle it.”
Chu Jiayun gave her a confident smile and entered the dorm building. Bai Jiling looked at the nearly every-room-lit-up dorm and left with a frown.
Chu Jiayun quickly walked towards her dorm after getting out of the elevator. The subtle, nonexistent scents in the hallway instinctively disgusted her. This feeling was especially strong at night. On one hand, the powerful inhibitors she was using were wearing off. On the other hand, since they were in a living area, the instructors weren’t as restrained as they would be elsewhere.
Once she was inside her room, she leaned against the door and took a moment to calm down. She hadn’t eaten much dinner, but she still felt like she was going to vomit. She rushed into the bathroom and dry-heaved for a while, finally stopping the nausea with an oral inhibitor.
As an S-class Omega, her body had been fully mature for a long time, yet she had never been marked. Being in a state of constant arousal while actively suppressing it with powerful inhibitors was a tremendous toll on her body.
And the mixed Alpha pheromones in the hallway, though faint and harmless, were still inherently dominant since they came from S- or A-class Alphas.
Luckily, they weren’t enough to make Chu Jiayun lose control. These Alphas were still not powerful enough to exert absolute dominance over her.
After taking a shower, Chu Jiayun was wiping her long hair dry and checked on her sister’s condition on her phone. Four years ago, the charming and lively Chu Jiaxi was in an accident in Jingcheng. Her scent gland was damaged, and she fell into a deep coma, from which there had been no significant improvement.
Before she came to Jingcheng, she had taken Chu Jiaxi from their home to the hospital, entrusting her sister to a doctor she knew. Chu Jiayun hated the worry and torment she had endured in the hospital four years ago, but she had no choice but to temporarily send her sister back to that cruel, cold place.
Tomorrow, she would have more contact with the other instructors. Chu Jiayun had to increase the dosage of inhibitors she would use and chose a high-collared shirt from her closet that would completely cover her neck.
All her preparations were complete, but she wasn’t in a hurry to rest. She opened her private computer and reviewed the files of a few key students. Finally, she opened a separate folder, and her expression became serious when she saw the contents.
**
Yu Sui jogged all the way back to her dorm. When Sheng Nanxi saw her breathing hard and sweating, she couldn’t help but laugh.
“Wipe the sweat off first. I wasn’t going to eat without you. What’s the rush?”
“It’s not about eating or not eating. It’s about being so excited after a close call that I have to run it off.”
“Close call?” Sheng Nanxi was confused and looked back at her. “Where did you go after your assessment?”
Yu Sui washed her hands and sat down at the small dining table: “That office was the close call.”
Sheng Nanxi lowered her head and laughed: “You’re so dramatic. Instructor Chu’s office is so nice, and you’re calling it a close call. By your logic, Instructor Chu must be a… a mother…”
Realizing that the word was inappropriate, Sheng Nanxi quickly stopped herself. Yu Sui didn’t finish her sentence, but she gave a look that said, “Yes, exactly.”
“A Sui, did she give you a hard time?” Sheng Nanxi couldn’t think of any other reason that would make Yu Sui feel this way.
“It wasn’t a hard time, but I just feel like her gaze… there’s something not right about it.”
During the assessment today, Yu Sui had tried her best to avoid eye contact, but when answering the questions, she couldn’t completely avoid looking at her. Chu Jiayun’s eyes were deep and alluring, like an invisible hand that would pull you in if you looked for too long.
