- Chapter 9 - Special Care
Yu Mu didn’t immediately tell the driver to go. She asked Yu Sui again, “Do you really want to go to Dongtian Amusement Park?”
Saying she didn’t want to now would be too obvious, so Yu Sui had no choice but to push on: “We’ll make it in time, right?”
“We will, I’m just confirming that’s what you really want to do.”
Yu Mu wasn’t using the same kind of scrutinizing gaze she used in business, but Yu Sui still felt a little guilty. She wasn’t used to lying.
Yu Sui laughed awkwardly and turned to look out the car window. It was a beautiful night. If she hadn’t run into Chu Jiayun, it would have been a wonderful and relaxing weekend.
Seeing this, Yu Mu said to the driver: “To Dongtian.”
Yu Sui thought her sister would find a reason to go home, but she actually brought her to the amusement park. There were many visitors at night, and there was even a line at the Ferris wheel, mostly young couples.
Yu Sui looked at Yu Mu awkwardly: “We’ve intruded on a couples’ space.”
Yu Mu didn’t say anything. She bought the tickets and got in line with her. The line moved quickly, and it wasn’t long before it was their turn. The view from the sky was beautiful. The night view of Jingcheng was stunning, and Yu Sui was a little mesmerized.
“You seem very afraid of Instructor Chu?”
Yu Sui’s fingers twitched. She turned to look at Yu Mu: “Am I?”
“Coming to the amusement park so suddenly was also to avoid her, right?”
So she had known all along. Yu Sui pursed her lips and didn’t argue anymore. The goal had been achieved, anyway.
“Can you tell me why?”
“Sis, you must have experienced wanting to avoid close contact with a teacher, right?” Yu Sui thought that the only people who liked to interact with teachers were sweet and gentle bookworms like Sheng Nanxi.
Someone like Yu Mu, who was a high achiever but had a strong personality, wouldn’t like it.
Yu Mu chuckled, with no intention of blaming her. She recalled her own time at the base: “To be honest, when I first met Instructor Chu, I also felt like she was very intimidating.”
“See? I was right,” Yu Sui said. She never would have thought that her sister had also been afraid of Chu Jiayun back then.
“But after spending some time with her, I realized she’s a good person.”
Yu Sui was full of doubt: “A… good person?”
“Don’t jump to conclusions. You can only truly get to know a person by spending time and communicating with them. It’s normal for you to feel resistant towards her right now, but don’t let it affect your differentiation and graduation, okay?”
Speaking of differentiation, Yu Sui wanted to ask Yu Mu what it felt like so she could be prepared.
For people in this world, differentiation was like another metamorphosis. Their minds and bodies would undergo significant changes. The higher the rank, whether Alpha or Omega, the more torment they would endure during the process.
Remembering those days that still made her heart tremble, Yu Mu felt even more grateful for the help Chu Jiayun had given her back then.
“Everyone’s body is different, so the changes they go through during differentiation are also different. I believe the physical changes won’t have too much of an impact on you, but you really need to be prepared mentally.”
“What should I do then?”
“Go to Instructor Chu more often.”
Yu Sui’s face, which had been full of curiosity and anticipation, instantly dropped, looking just like she did when she couldn’t get candy as a child.
Yu Mu reached out and gently pinched her cheek: “Differentiation is a very important stage in our lives. You have to trust Instructor Chu’s expertise and be responsible for yourself.”
“Is there no one else I can rely on?”
“Why do you have to rule out Instructor Chu? A Sui, did something unpleasant happen between you two at the base?”
“I just feel like it’s not very reliable to entrust something this important to someone I just met.”
“I used to think the same way as you, but Instructor Chu will make you feel at ease. You have to try to trust her.”
Yu Sui saw that she couldn’t get much real information about Chu Jiayun from her sister. It seemed that everyone who had interacted with her had nothing but praise for her, which put Yu Sui in a passive position.
On Saturday afternoon, Yu Sui went out to play with Sheng Nanxi and Ding Yan. After Yu Mu finished her work and came out of her study, she suddenly remembered their conversation on the Ferris wheel last night.
She thought about it for a moment and decided to call Chu Jiayun.
“Instructor Chu, I’m sorry to bother you on the weekend, but there’s something important I’d like to ask for your help with.”
She heard the faint sound of silverware and guessed that Instructor Chu was eating out.
“It’s no trouble. What can I help you with?”
The voice was still cool and aloof, but without any hint of refusal or perfunctoriness. Yu Mu felt as if she had gone back to the days of her own training.
“It’s about my sister, Yu Sui.”
Chu Jiayun was having dinner with Bai Jiling. When she heard Yu Sui’s name, she frowned, which made Bai Jiling, who was sitting across from her, curious.
Yu Mu continued: “She’s like me; she’s facing the pressure of differentiation. She might not realize it yet, but I can already clearly sense the changes in her these past few weeks.”
“What kind of changes are you referring to?”
“Her personality and temper, and some other things that I can’t quite explain. She just feels like a completely different person.”
Just now, at dinner, Chu Jiayun and Bai Jiling had also been discussing the students’ performances. Yu Sui’s contrast was indeed quite significant.
“That’s a normal phenomenon. The other teachers at the base and I will do our best to help her.”
“I have one more favor to ask. I hope Instructor Chu can give Yu Sui a little more attention for my sake.”
Chu Jiayun didn’t immediately agree, but she didn’t refuse either.
Yu Mu knew that Chu Jiayun had always been fair and rarely showed favoritism or gave special attention to anyone. But she was very helpful to her students, almost doing everything she could to help young people who were confused and lost find their direction and regain their confidence.
This was also why she was so unforgettable to her past students. But this time, for her own sister, Yu Mu decided to give it a try.
“I am fair to every student and will ensure that every student gets the help they need. So, don’t worry. I will take good care of her during the training.”
She didn’t say she would give her special care, but she did promise that Yu Sui would be well taken care of, which was enough to put Yu Mu’s mind at ease.
“Thank you, Instructor Chu! When are you free? I’d like to treat you and Yu Sui to a meal.”
Chu Jiayun’s lips curved, but she refused: “It’s better to avoid private contact like that during training. Otherwise, I might get another complaint.”
She remembered a student had secretly complained in the past, saying Instructor Chu was biased. Later, an investigation revealed that someone had been jealous that Chu Jiayun was spending more time counseling Yu Mu, who had differentiation anxiety, and had made up a false complaint.
Yu Mu smiled apologetically: “Then I’ll thank you on behalf of Yu Sui, Instructor Chu.”
After hanging up, Chu Jiayun slowly took a sip of water. Seeing Bai Jiling’s expression, as if she was waiting for some gossip, she deliberately looked away.
“Not going to share what was on the phone call?” Bai Jiling joked. She was genuinely a little curious about the situation.
“Yu Mu wants me to give Yu Sui a little more attention.”
“Haven’t you already been doing that?”
Bai Jiling wasn’t surprised. Before they even finalized the training list, many parents had already used their connections to try to get their children into the training program.
The Bai family also had a good standing in Jingcheng, so Bai Jiling knew the Yu family well: “Given the Yu family’s situation, they do hope that Yu Sui will have an ideal differentiation result.”
Chu Jiayun, however, changed the subject to something else: “I remember you mentioned that your Uncle Bai’s research institute had a new breakthrough. Is there new progress on the aget that can artificially influence differentiation results?”
“If you’re interested, maybe I can make an appointment with my uncle sometime and take you for a visit?”
“Sure.”
Bai Jiling was in a good mood today. It was rare for Chu Jiayun to agree to go out to dinner and even chat with her a lot. This was much more pleasant than just talking on the phone.
“Are you really not going to consider transferring Jiaxi to Jingcheng for treatment?”
The usually calm look on Chu Jiayun’s face wavered. The faint pain in her eyes was still noticeable, even though it had been a few years since the accident.
“I didn’t mean to bring up something so painful for you. I just feel like the medical facilities in Jingcheng are much better than in Ancheng. Maybe there’s a chance for Jiaxi?”
Just as before, Chu Jiayun refused the suggestion.
The accident happened to Chu Jiaxi in Jingcheng. This painful place was not a good place for either of them to stay for long. Besides, the person who hurt her sister has never been found, which was the real reason Chu Jiayun had to come to Jingcheng every few years.
However, she hadn’t told anyone this secret, not even Bai Jiling.

The short weekend break was over. On Sunday afternoon, the instructors and students gradually returned to the base to prepare for the next week’s training.
Sheng Nanxi went to each dorm to hand out the schedule for the next week and then carried a pile of books back from the reading room downstairs.
“A Sui, these are all materials for next week’s group debate. Let’s look at them together.”
Yu Sui scratched her head: “Do we have to be so serious? It’s just a few debates. Maybe we won’t even make it to the finals, so we’ll only have to debate once.”
“How can you be so unconfident in yourself? The debate is an important part of the assessment. We have to take it seriously.”
Yu Sui looked through the next week’s training schedule and saw that there was also an optional competition. That sounded interesting.
Just then, Ren Xuran knocked on the door and called for Yu Sui.
“What’s wrong?”
“Instructor Chu wants you to go to her office.”
“Now?”
Ren Xuran nodded: “Yeah, I just came from her office. She told me to come get you.”
It was almost dark, and it was Sunday. Was Instructor Chu really that dedicated?
Yu Sui was a little annoyed, but she couldn’t refuse. She took her time: “Do you know why she wants to see me?”
“It’s probably to talk about the results of the psychological endurance test from last week. We just had a great chat.”
Seeing Yu Sui’s hesitation, Ren Xuran encouraged her: “Only the people with good scores get to have a one-on-one meeting. You should be happy. And Instructor Chu is so easy to talk to. That feeling is just…” She shook her head as she reminisced, “It’s indescribable.”
Yu Sui suddenly found her a bit cheesy. She subconsciously lifted her leg, but Ren Xuran was faster. She jumped away immediately: “Hurry up! Don’t keep Instructor Chu waiting too long!”
