After the Scumbag Alpha Tries to Save the Love-Struck and Flips Over (Quick Transmigration GL) - Chapter 26
“I know now…” The smile on Lu Yan’s face vanished instantly. She stared at Ruan Zhenzhen and asked, “How do you know about this?”
Ruan Zhenzhen rubbed her neck and said sheepishly, “Right on the road to the third canteen, there’s a huge billboard. The names of everyone pursuing further studies or going abroad are on it! I thought you already knew, since you guys are married…”
So it was on that road. Shen Su and I have never taken that path. Is it a coincidence?
“Yeah, we’re married, yet I didn’t even know she was going abroad…” Lu Yan lowered her head, a mocking smile appearing at the corners of her mouth.
The early preparations for studying abroad are extensive. Shen Su must have been preparing for this at least since before Lu Yan’s first heat. Yet throughout all that time, Shen Su never mentioned a word to her.
Why?
Lu Yan stood up abruptly from her stool. Ruan Zhenzhen grabbed her wrist and said, “Don’t rush, maybe there’s a misunderstanding. Go back and communicate properly.”
“Yeah, thank you for telling me.” Lu Yan nodded. “Let’s talk more.”
Ruan Zhenzhen looked at the expressionless Lu Yan and felt inexplicably afraid, but she stayed: “Do you want to know more about Shen Su? You should know her better than I do.”
Lu Yan bowed her head and asked, “I want to know what the reaction was when people found out Shen Su and I were together.”
Ruan Zhenzhen thought back: “Quite shocked, I guess. After all, Shen Su is a celebrity at our school. The number of Omegas she’s flirted with can’t be counted on one hand, and you know that better than anyone.”
“True…” Lu Yan smiled helplessly. “I knew all along, so why did I believe her?”
“Lu Yan, don’t be sad. Since you’re married, if she really intended to leave, she would definitely tell you eventually. It’s just a matter of time,” Ruan Zhenzhen hurriedly comforted her. “Go back and have a calm conversation. Whatever you do, don’t fight. Fighting rarely solves anything.”
“Thank you.” Lu Yan forced a smile. Just then, the bell rang, and Ruan Zhenzhen left.
Now, Lu Yan’s mind was completely off the lesson. She stared at her phone, her screen staying on her chat history with Shen Su. She scrolled through carefully but found not a single trace of Shen Su’s plan to go abroad.
Meanwhile, Shen Su appeared at the flower shop, bringing a glass jar filled with many rolled-up little slips of paper.
“This is?” The Beta girl took the jar, confused.
Shen Su explained, “There is content inside each slip. Please write them on the cards and deliver them with the flowers to this address every year on this day.”
The girl nodded: “Understood.”
Shen Su took away the blue irises she had pre-ordered, filling her trunk to the brim. She drove home slowly and began to meticulously decorate.
After finally enduring until the end of class, Shen Su sent her a message right on time: “I’m waiting for you at home. I’ve prepared a surprise for you!”
A surprise…
She had already received one.
Lu Yan sat in the taxi with such a cold expression that the driver stammered nervously, “H-hello, where to, please?”
Lu Yan calmly stated the address.
Five minutes later, Lu Yan stood at her front door. She paused for a moment before entering the password. The six-digit code “611201” was a combination of her and Shen Su’s birthdays.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw two rows of blue irises lining a winding little path, emitting a faint fragrance. Starry fairy lights glowed beside the flowers. She walked slowly along this “path.” At the corner, Shen Su hugged her directly: “Happy Birthday.”
Then, Shen Su leaned in for a kiss.
Today, Lu Yan was exceptionally proactive, like a flame trying to ignite Shen Su as well. But in the next second, Shen Su felt a drop of moisture—it was a tear from Lu Yan. She quickly released her and asked with a smile, “Crying from being moved?”
Lu Yan stared at Shen Su intently, her lashes trembling and wet with tears. Today, Shen Su looked beautiful, wearing a fitted white suit adorned with bellflowers and a light green tulle skirt. Lu Yan rarely saw her in this style; her anger and suspicion began to blur in the face of such beauty.
She turned her head, refusing the “honey trap,” wiped her tears, and said coldly, “I’m not.”
Shen Su keenly sensed something was wrong. She stopped joking and gently held Lu Yan’s shoulders, asking tentatively, “Yan Yan, what’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong? Shen Su, just how many things have you been hiding from me?” Lu Yan brushed off Shen Su’s hands and stared at her with red, tearful eyes, her voice choking.
Shen Su’s pupils contracted. She had hidden quite a bit—she just didn’t know which one Lu Yan had found out. She bit her lip and asked, “What is it? What happened?”
“You’re going abroad to study! Why did you hide it from me?!” After saying this, Lu Yan’s tears fell uncontrollably like broken pearls.
Shen Su instantly breathed a sigh of relief: “Yan Yan, I didn’t mean to hide it. I just wanted to wait until your semester ended to tell you.”
“Why?” Lu Yan didn’t understand.
Shen Su took a step forward and pulled Lu Yan into her arms: “I didn’t want to affect your judgment. I was afraid that if I told you early, you would change your own plans and go abroad with me.”
She knew Lu Yan might not actually do that, but what if? What if her “love-struck” brain took over? If Lu Yan followed her abroad, faking her death would cause too much trouble. If Lu Yan witnessed her “death” in person, it would cause massive psychological trauma. Shen Su preferred to “die” far away.
“You should have discussed it with me earlier instead of keeping me in the dark,” Lu Yan sobbed against Shen Su’s shoulder. “Doing this makes me feel like you never intended for us to be long-term—like I was never part of your life path.”
Shen Su sighed softly. Lu Yan was right, and she had no way to argue, so she could only slowly release pheromones to soothe her. Unexpectedly, Lu Yan got even angrier and pushed her away: “Stop releasing pheromones! Using them is what truly affects my judgment!”
“I’m sorry, Yan Yan.” Shen Su hung her head. “I was wrong. I shouldn’t have hidden it.”
Lu Yan crossed her arms and pouted, “Is an apology just words? What about your plans after going abroad?”
Shen Su really didn’t have much of a plan. She thought for a bit and said, “I’ll come back at least once a month, and we’ll video chat every day. I’ll report everything to you, okay?”
Lu Yan huffed, “And?”
Shen Su leaned in and kissed her near the lips: “I’m sorry.”
With every kiss, she said “I’m sorry.” After the sixth time, Lu Yan finally spoke: “Then let’s turn the page on this. Don’t ever do it again!”
Seeing this, Shen Su quickly changed the subject: “I prepared birthday gifts. See if you like them.”
Lu Yan slowly opened the gift boxes while Shen Su narrated: “This is a kitten keychain I made by hand. This is a chibi drawing of us eating the sugar man. And some clothes and jewelry. I didn’t know exactly what you wanted, so I bought everything.”
Lu Yan picked up the drawing, her eyes shifting: “How long did this take to draw?”
“A whole afternoon.” Seeing Lu Yan wouldn’t let go of the drawing, Shen Su knew she had chosen correctly. No matter how harsh Lu Yan’s parents were, they didn’t deprive her of material luxury. She didn’t lack designer goods; she lacked a heart that treated her with sincerity.
Lu Yan carefully set the drawing down and threw her arms around Shen Su’s neck: “I love it.”
“There’s also a fruit cake I made in the fridge,” Shen Su whispered.
“Did it turn out well?” Lu Yan blinked.
“You’ll know once you taste it.” Shen Su glanced at the fridge. “You’re the star; do you want to get it yourself?”
“Yes!” Lu Yan walked briskly into the kitchen, looking like her usual self. she carefully opened the fridge and brought out a six-inch cake. It was coated in fresh cream and topped with sliced mangoes. While not as polished as a professional bakery cake, it showed Shen Su’s effort.
“Sister, you’re amazing! It looks so tasty!” Lu Yan brought it to the table and handed the knife to Shen Su. “Sister, you cut it!”
“Of course the birthday girl should cut it! But since Yan Yan invited me, let’s do it together.” Shen Su walked behind Lu Yan, pressing against her back, and they cut two pieces together.
The cake was soft and fluffy, the cream wasn’t greasy, and the mangoes were fresh and sweet. Lu Yan was full of praise: “Sister, teach me to bake next time. That way, I can make one for you on your birthday.”
“Sure,” Shen Su said with a smile.
They couldn’t finish the whole thing, and fresh cream melts easily. Shen Su asked, “What should we do with the rest?”
Lu Yan pursed her lips. This was a cake Shen Su made for her; she didn’t want to give it away or waste it. “Put it back in the fridge? For a midnight snack?”
Shen Su had no objection: “Whatever you say.”
Lu Yan wiped her hands, her eyes twinkling: “Sister, when do you plan to give me the birthday gift I want most?”
Shen Su raised an eyebrow: “That’s not what you said last time.”
“Then just tell me if you can satisfy me,” Lu Yan sat on Shen Su’s lap, hooking her neck and whispering in her ear.
The warm breath sent tingles through her. Shen Su turned her head slightly until their noses touched. “Today, whatever you want, I can give you…” As she spoke, her lips brushed Lu Yan’s. She intentionally didn’t pull away, waiting for Lu Yan to take the initiative.
“You.” As expected, Lu Yan kissed her.
Words were drowned in that affectionate kiss. The scent of fresh irises filled the room, mixing with the flowers on the floor. Amidst the gasping for air, Shen Su tilted her chin: “Heat coming again?”
“Ever since I’ve been with you, I hardly notice my heat cycles…” Because they happened so frequently; any time Shen Su released a bit more pheromones, it would trigger her.
Shen Su swept her up: “Then don’t worry about it. I’m right here.”
Lu Yan looked up and nibbled Shen Su’s reddened earlobe: “What will I do when you go abroad? How about I go with you?”
“But your network is here. Abroad is unfamiliar, and the difficulty would double. Besides, I’ll be back in two years.” Shen Su released more pheromones to soothe her.
Lu Yan’s eyes grew hazy. Before completely losing her reason, she said, “Then after you come back, you’ll never leave me again, right?”
Shen Su’s eyes flickered, and she gave a soft “mm.”
System: Her soul will always be with the love-struck miss.
“It’s okay. We have many, many years. What’s two years? I’m willing to wait.” Lu Yan lowered her head and kissed Shen Su’s collarbone.
Guilt and bitterness spread through Shen Su’s heart. As expected, flings are easier; no responsibility, just enjoy the process. But she and Lu Yan were married now. Every lie was a sharp blade, stabbing not just Lu Yan, but herself.
Because of this, Shen Su’s movements became even gentler. Even the final marking was exceptionally soft, giving a dreamlike feeling.
Lu Yan still felt a bit of pain, instinctively calling out, “Sister, it hurts…”
Shen Su held her tightly from behind, releasing pheromones in a steady, soothing flow. Her gaze fell on the dim bedside lamp. She drifted off for a second and asked the system: Can I really not refresh my age when entering a new world?
System: This is a love-struck system. Aside from picking wild vegetables, I’m not good at anything. I can’t refresh your age.
Shen Su: Fine.
“Sister…” Lu Yan called out affectionately.
Shen Su snapped back, pressing gentle kisses on the back of her neck: “Yan Yan, still uncomfortable?”
“Much better with you here.” Lu Yan rolled over and hugged her. “I’m a bit sleepy…”
“Goodnight.”
“Mm, goodnight.”
Late at night, the bedroom was pitch black. Lu Yan slowly opened her eyes. By the faint moonlight, she stared at Shen Su’s face. She watched for a long time, then cautiously reached out to trace Shen Su’s features. Seeing no reaction, she grew bolder.
She picked up the white belt from the suit jacket lying on the pillow and slowly tied Shen Su’s hands together, finishing it with a beautiful bow. Looking at the bow, Lu Yan’s gaze darkened. She suddenly felt she had become the person she hated most. Her desire to control Shen Su was no weaker than her mother’s control over her.
Lu Yan truly wanted to trap Shen Su by her side so she would never leave. She stared at Shen Su’s hands until sleepiness took over again.
The next morning, Shen Su tried to stretch, only to find her hands immobilized. Looking down, she saw she was tied up by the white belt. It definitely wasn’t her own doing, so it must have been Lu Yan.
The Lu Yan in her arms stirred, looked up, and kissed Shen Su’s chin: “Sister is awake?”
Shen Su laughed softly: “Why so mischievous?”
Lu Yan pouted: “A little force and you could break free. It can’t really trap you…”
“The one who tied the knot must be the one to undo it. Yan Yan, go ahead.” Shen Su held her hands out.
Lu Yan curved her lips and leisurely untied the belt. They cuddled and kissed for a while longer before getting up to wash.
Right as they started eating, Shen Su’s phone rang. It was Li Wei. Shen Su glanced at Lu Yan, who was focused on her toast, and put the call on speaker: “Hello?”
“Liang Qiao is dying.” Li Wei’s voice was as still as dead water.
Shen Su was stunned: “What?” Lu Yan also looked up, studying the expression on Shen Su’s face.
“Liang Qiao was in a small county town he’d never visited before. He was crushed by an earth-moving truck. His lower body is a bloody mess. He’s barely clinging to life in the local hospital. The doctors say they need to amputate, but even then, he might not survive.”
Shen Su didn’t notice Lu Yan’s expression; she just found it strange: “Why would he go to a small town he’s never been to?”
“I investigated. Liang Qiao has a childhood sweetheart Omega lover. They were classmates in elementary and middle school. Later, the Omega went home—to the place where Liang Qiao was hit. That Omega fell seriously ill and needed a lot of money, which her family didn’t have. So Liang Qiao has been paying the medical bills all these years.” Li Wei spoke slowly, but the anger in her heart was burning. “How ‘touching’! He plotted to get close to an Omega he could use as an ATM just to save his ‘white moonlight.’ He deserves that accident!”
Shen Su suddenly remembered her dream. The Lu Yan in the dream had also mentioned a childhood sweetheart.
So that dream was really from Liang Qiao’s perspective? Was it Liang Qiao who drove Lu Yan to become like that?
Shen Su instinctively looked at Lu Yan. Lu Yan was looking down, taking small bites of toast, her hair falling over her face, her expression unreadable.
“By the way, is Dr. Zhou still in the city?” Li Wei asked her true intent. “I went to the First People’s Hospital and found she’s no longer there.”
Shen Su said, “She’s gone back to Germany. Why?”
“We reached an agreement with Liang Qiao’s parents. They are willing to let us harvest his scent gland while he’s still alive for my sister to use.” Li Wei paused. “I know only Dr. Zhou has the equipment to culture the gland. I want to contact her. Do you have her information?”
“Yes, I’ll WeChat it to you.” Shen Su quickly pushed the contact info to Li Wei. After Li Wei thanked her and hung up, Lu Yan asked seemingly casually, “Sister, are you very close to that Dr. Zhou?”
Shen Su smelled a hint of jealousy and said with a smile, “Dr. Zhou is a Beta. I met her while traveling in Germany.”
“Oh—” Lu Yan elongated the sound sarcastically. “How romantic! Meeting in a foreign land, hitting it off immediately!”
“What are you thinking?” Shen Su rubbed Lu Yan’s head. “We’re just ordinary friends, like Li Wei and the others.”
“Fine.” Lu Yan lowered her lashes, hiding a flash of jealousy. Shen Su certainly has a lot of ‘friends.’ It’s quite eyesore.
Lu Yan quickly recovered her usual smile, so Shen Su didn’t notice anything odd. She took her hand and said, “Let’s go, I’ll take you to school.” Lu Yan followed her to the car.
Shen Su dropped her at the classroom door but didn’t let go immediately. After a pause, she said, “I have to go to the First People’s Hospital later.”
“Sister, are you unwell? I’ll go with you.” Lu Yan gripped her hand, eyes full of worry.
“I’m fine.” Shen Su shook her head and showed the chat history to Lu Yan. “Li Wei just messaged. After Li Wen heard about Liang Qiao’s accident, she had a fall and lost the baby. She’s in the hospital now. It’s only right that I go see her.”
Lu Yan pouted: “But you aren’t even close to Li Wen…”
Shen Su explained patiently, “Li Wei is my classmate, and the Li family has business dealings with mine. Besides, if I had handled the Liang Qiao matter more thoroughly back then, this wouldn’t have happened to Li Wen.”
“Fine.” Lu Yan lowered her lashes and whispered, “Go then. But remember to pick me up at noon.”
Shen Su rubbed her head and smiled: “Okay.” With that, she turned and left. Lu Yan watched her walk away, her gaze darkening.
Shen Su drove to the hospital. When she saw Li Wen, she was stunned. She was completely different from before—much thinner, her eyes dim, her lips pale.
“Shen Su, you’re here.” Li Wei stood up and greeted her.
Li Wen on the bed also forced a smile: “Sister Shen.”
“Are you feeling better?” Shen Su asked. Li Wen hummed and looked away.
Li Wei took Shen Su’s shoulder: “Let’s talk outside.”
“Okay.” Shen Su carefully closed the door and sat with Li Wei on the chairs nearby.
“Did you get in touch with Dr. Zhou?” Shen Su asked.
Li Wei nodded, her brow furrowed with worry: “Yes, but it takes a day and a half for Dr. Zhou to reach that local hospital. We must keep Liang Qiao alive until the surgery.”
Shen Su’s gaze sharpened: “Is his condition that bad?”
“The doctors have issued critical condition notices several times.” Li Wei rubbed her temples. “Otherwise I wouldn’t have told you he was dying.”
“It’s better if he dies. Trash like him is just a waste of air.” Shen Su felt disgusted thinking about Liang Qiao’s deeds. But in the previous life, Liang Qiao shouldn’t have had this accident?
System: Correct. Otherwise he wouldn’t have lived long enough to marry Lu Yan.
Shen Su: Then why did it happen this time? Butterfly effect?
System: Maybe. I’m not sure.
Shen Su asked directly: “What exactly happened with the accident? Was it really an accident?”
Li Wei looked at her in surprise: “You don’t suspect I did it, do you?”
Shen Su thought for a moment and said half-jokingly, “I didn’t at first, but now that you say it, I can see the motive.”
Li Wei explained quickly: “No matter how much I hate him, I wouldn’t go that far. I didn’t even know he was going to that town. Besides, my sister is so dependent on him, I definitely wouldn’t want him dead like this!”
“I was joking. You took it seriously?” Shen Su laughed softly.
Li Wei shrugged: “I just wanted to clarify.”
Shen Su asked again: “Did the ‘white moonlight’ know he was looking for rich Omegas?”
Li Wei pursed her lips: “I went to see her. She seemed surprised, like she didn’t know. But I have a feeling she knew exactly what was going on.”
Shen Su suddenly remembered her dream. If it was real, Lu Yan must have seen that girl to bring her up. Meaning she eventually came to the capital. Regardless, whether she was innocent or not had nothing to do with Shen Su now.
Li Wei scratched her head: “I didn’t dwell on it. I gave her enough money to treat her illness.”
Suddenly, Shen Su’s phone vibrated. It was a text from Lu Yan: “Sister, my stomach hurts. Pick me up after class.”
Shen Su stood up immediately, replying while walking toward the elevator: “Where does it hurt? I’m coming now. If you’re unwell, skip class, I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Li Wei followed: “What happened?”
“Yan Yan says she’s unwell. I’m going to get her.” Shen Su pressed the elevator button.
“Go quickly then.” Li Wei watched her enter the elevator and returned to the room.
Li Wen looked up: “Sister Shen left?”
Li Wei hummed: “Went to get her wife.”
“Their relationship is so good…” Envy flashed in Li Wen’s eyes.
Li Wei’s heart moved; she gently patted her sister’s shoulder: “Liang Qiao isn’t the right one for you. Don’t be sad, he isn’t worth it.”
“I know.” Li Wen clenched her fists under the covers. While Li Wei was out buying lunch, she took her phone and sent a message to someone.
When Shen Su reached the classroom, Lu Yan was coming out the back door clutching her stomach.
“How are you?” Shen Su supported her, anxious. “Can you walk?”
Lu Yan’s eyes flickered, and she stammered, “C-can’t walk.”
Shen Su didn’t doubt her for a second and scooped her up.
“Sister, it might just be bloating. It’s okay, we don’t need the hospital, let’s go home.” Lu Yan hooked her arms around Shen Su’s neck and buried her face in her shoulder. “I really don’t want the hospital.”
Shen Su paused: “Are you sure you’re okay?”
Lu Yan nuzzled her neck: “I’m fine. Sister, let’s go home, okay?”
“Okay.” Shen Su agreed without thinking, but as she drove past a pharmacy, she still bought some medicine for bloating.
At home, Lu Yan didn’t take the medicine and went straight into the covers. Shen Su boiled water and mixed the medicine powder in. Once it was cool enough to touch, she brought it in: “Yan Yan, time for medicine.”
Lu Yan was curled up entirely, not even her head showing. Her voice was muffled: “I’m not taking it. It tastes bad.”
“Should I add sugar? Or find some sweet plums?” Shen Su said gently.
Lu Yan paused and asked tentatively, “Sister, I’m really fine now. My stomach doesn’t hurt at all. Can we skip the medicine?”
Shen Su assumed she just hated the bitterness and laughed softly, putting the glass on the nightstand. “I’ll leave it here then. If you want it, tell me, I’ll warm it up.”
Lu Yan’s hand reached out from the covers and grabbed Shen Su’s wrist: “Sister, don’t go. Stay with me.”
“Okay.” Shen Su had nothing else to do, so she focused on her mission target. She slid into the covers and hugged Lu Yan from behind. Her nose brushed Lu Yan’s smooth scent gland. “When did you take off the blocker?”
“At home, I never use them.” Lu Yan turned to face her.
Their eyes met, and a strange emotion spread through Shen Su, as if she were being influenced by Lu Yan’s pheromones. She pressed a gentle kiss on Lu Yan’s forehead: “Yan Yan, are you unhappy because I went to see Li Wen today?”
“If I say yes, will you think I’m petty?” Lu Yan asked tentatively.
Shen Su laughed: “No. That’s just jealousy, perfectly normal. It shows you care about me, doesn’t it?”
Shen Su suddenly thought of the stomach ache. She hesitated but asked, “Was your stomach ache real?” No hospital, no medicine, her complexion looked fine, and she got ‘sick’ right when I went to see Li Wen. Hard not to suspect it was faked.
Lu Yan pursed her lips, nervous: “Sister, I’m sorry. I just missed you too much. I won’t do it again.”
“If you miss me, you can tell me. Yan Yan shouldn’t lie.” Shen Su’s tone was like coaxing a toddler, no trace of anger.
Lu Yan breathed a sigh of relief. She hugged Shen Su’s waist: “Sister, can I really not go abroad with you? I don’t want to leave you for a second.”
“Your studies aren’t finished!” Shen Su rubbed her head. “Besides, aren’t you going to start a business? What happens to that if you follow me?”
Lu Yan went silent.
“Yan Yan, you don’t always have to follow me. Love yourself first. Put yourself first.” Shen Su interlaced their fingers.
“I know, Sister.” Lu Yan looked down and pecked their joined hands. “I’m willing to wait two years. In two years, I’ll make you see me in a new light. Sister, don’t you dare break your promise.”
Shen Su lowered her lashes and licked Lu Yan’s scent gland without answering. Lu Yan let out a soft moan. Shen Su’s kisses were gentle, like spring rain.
“Sister, tomorrow I… have a speech competition. There are credits involved. Don’t leave any marks.” Lu Yan’s words were fragmented.
Shen Su’s teeth grazed her gland, slowly grinding, but not biting down: “What are you wearing tomorrow? Let me see where I can’t leave marks.”
“An off-the-shoulder evening gown,” Lu Yan whispered.
Shen Su stroked her collarbone and sighed: “Pity…” Her fingers slowly slid downward…
The next day, Lu Yan changed into her gown in the backstage dressing room. She looked in the mirror; the dress perfectly covered the traces from last night. She sat in the first row, waiting for her turn. She turned to look at the audience, hoping to find the person she wanted to see.
But she didn’t see her. Shen Su had left after dropping her off, saying she had things to do. Lu Yan couldn’t understand. Shen Su had no classes and wasn’t managing the company. What else could she be doing?
Lu Yan grew increasingly agitated until it was her turn. she put on a practiced smile and walked on stage. Adjusting the mic, she saw the person she was hoping for enter through the door directly facing her.
The lights in the hall swept over Shen Su’s face. They were far apart, separated by a sea of people, but Lu Yan recognized her instantly. Shen Su sat in Lu Yan’s original seat and smiled at her.
That smile lifted Lu Yan’s spirits. Her speech was extraordinary, far better than any rehearsal.
“Thank you, everyone.” Lu Yan bowed. Looking up, she saw Shen Su had left her seat. Suppressing her excitement, she walked off stage and through the side door, where she was pulled into Shen Su’s arms.
Inside was the next contestant’s passionate speech; outside, Lu Yan and Shen Su were locked in an embrace.
“Did you come just for me?” Lu Yan could hear their overlapping heartbeats, her voice trembling slightly.
Shen Su nodded, wiping a tear from Lu Yan’s eye: “Yes. I came just for you.”
“Then what were you busy with before?” Lu Yan asked tentatively.
Shen Su laughed: “Waiting for you to go on stage! I was standing by the door the whole time. I only came in when the host called your name.”
“Why didn’t you come in and sit earlier!” Lu Yan’s heart was overflowing with joy. If she had come earlier, she’d think she came for the speeches. Arriving exactly on time made her feel Shen Su came only for her.
“Asking what you already know.” Shen Su tapped her forehead. “Let’s go back and sit. There’s an awards ceremony later.”
“How did you know there were awards today?” Lu Yan smiled, eyes full of joy.
“If I’m timing my arrival, I have to know the schedule, right?” Shen Su raised an eyebrow. “Besides, how could I not care about your affairs?”
Satisfied, Lu Yan leaned her head on Shen Su’s shoulder: “Sister is the best. Let’s wait for the awards. How was I today?”
Shen Su said without hesitation: “Number one in my heart.”
Lu Yan kissed her cheek: “I hope I’m always number one in your heart.”
Shen Su pinched her cheek and led her back to the rear seats. After a while, the host came out: “The scores are being tallied. Please wait. We have prizes for the audience and contestants. Please scan the QR code on the screen for the lucky draw.”
“Sister, let’s scan too. What if we win?” Lu Yan scanned the code.
“Okay.” Shen Su scanned it as well.
The screen flashed through profile pictures. “Stop—” The host called out. The final picture was a tabby cat.
It was Lu Yan’s profile.
“Congratulations to this student for winning first prize! Is this student here? Please come up.”
“Go on.” Shen Su let go of her hand, smiling.
Lu Yan jogged onto the stage to get the prize—a pair of headphones. she ran back to Shen Su and, in the dim light, stole a kiss: “Sister really is my lucky star.”
In the end, Lu Yan won the first-place trophy for the competition as well.
Afterward, they walked through the campus to the lotus pond. The lotuses hadn’t fully bloomed yet. They sat on a bench, Lu Yan leaning on her shoulder.
A sudden ringtone broke the harmony. Lu Yan frowned as she saw “Li Wei” on Shen Su’s screen.
Shen Su answered: “Hello?”
Li Wei was gasping: “My sister is missing! Where could she have gone? My people have searched almost everywhere.”
Shen Su thought and said, “Did anything special happen today?”
Li Wei said, “Dr. Zhou arrived early. Liang Qiao was transferred to a hospital here. He just went into surgery.”
Shen Su had a flash of inspiration: “Do you think she went to see Liang Qiao’s ‘white moonlight’? Or the place where the accident happened?”
Li Wei was silent for a moment: “That reminds me. Thank you.” she hung up.
Lu Yan gripped Shen Su’s arm, uneasy: “You aren’t going to help look, are you?”
Shen Su wanted to see that “white moonlight,” but had no reason to. The Li family would handle it. she shook her head: “No.”
Lu Yan breathed a sigh of relief: “Don’t worry, Li Wen will be fine.”
Shen Su nodded. she wasn’t worried about Li Wen; she just thought the accident was suspicious.
“Let’s go home?”
“Okay.”
The local hospital late at night was silent. A beautiful Omega sat on the bed, staring at the clock. The second hand ticked slowly. Her pale lips moved in a whisper: “56, 57, 58, 59, 60.”
The counting stopped. Right at midnight, the door creaked open.
The Omega smiled at the entering Li Wen: “Miss Li, long time no see.”
