After Transmigrating as a Beta, I Got Messed Up with an Alpha (BL) - Chapter 1
On Saturday, Pei Yule finished the final level of the game he had been playing recently. He put down the controller and stretched.
“Hehe…”
Now that he was no longer focused on the game, the sound of laughter drifting through the half-open door became clear. Pei Yule looked back toward the door, feeling a bit puzzled. He didn’t know what Pei Yihuan was doing out there; even with headphones on, he had faintly heard her giggling for a long time.
With nothing to do after beating the game, curiosity got the better of him. He left his seat, pulled the door open, and walked out to find his younger sister lying on the sofa. She was staring at something, laughing incessantly as she read.
Pei Yule glanced over and saw dense blocks of text. He asked casually, “What are you reading? Is it that funny?”
Aside from games, he was also interested in novels. The web novel he had been following for over a year had just ended, and he was looking for something new. Seeing his sister so engrossed made him genuinely curious—even if her laughter was a bit creepy.
Usually, they recommended books to each other, but when Pei Yule leaned in to see the content, Pei Yihuan waved him away dismissively. “This isn’t suitable for you. Go back to your games.”
“I already finished the game,” Pei Yule said. Seeing her rare refusal, he grew suspicious. “Why isn’t it suitable? You aren’t reading something… scandalous, are you?”
“Cough, cough.”
Pei Yihuan cleared her throat, her eyes darting around as a mischievous idea took root. She flashed a sly smile and handed him a nearby book with ill intent. “I haven’t finished reading this one yet. Take this and read it on the side. If you think it suits you, you can grab the others from my bookshelf. I have plenty more.” She was sure his eyes would be opened!
Pei Yule looked down. The title on the cover read: AA: At Daggers Drawn.
It looked like a police/crime thriller. However, the paper quality felt rough and cheap, and the cover was very simple—not polished at all.
Pei Yule flipped through it casually, then looked up to see his sister watching him with a smirk. He asked calmly, “Is this part of your ‘private collection’?”
The term “private collection” was a secret code between them. While they shared books, there was one specific genre Pei Yule refused to read no matter how much she recommended it. In his sister’s words, it was “Crispy Duck Literature” (Slang for BL/Boys’ Love).
“More than that.” It was practically her painstaking masterpiece. Pei Yihuan waved her hand, a bit too embarrassed to admit it was a fanfic she wrote herself. She lowered her voice. “Just read it. After you’re done, give me a rating based on your vast experience as a reader.”
“…”
Pei Yule thought for a moment, took the book, and nodded. “Alright.”
After that, he returned to his room. Sitting back in his chair, he officially opened the book that sounded like a crime thriller and began to read.
It started off quite interesting. The writing was witty and vivid. But as Pei Yule read on, he gradually realized something was wrong.
It wasn’t a crime thriller. The setting was more like sci-fi. In a certain era, humans had evolved into six genders—not just male and female. Aside from the biological sexes, people were categorized as Alpha, Beta, or Omega. Halfway through, Pei Yule pushed aside the complicated romantic web and managed to grasp the setting.
Alphas possessed innate leadership that commanded submission; they were the ones meant to stand at the top of the pyramid.
Betas were ordinary people, making up the majority of the population.
Omegas were the rarest. They were fragile, meant to be protected, and regardless of being male or female, they had heat cycles… and could even get pregnant.
Pregnant?
Pei Yule stared at those words, completely bewildered. But then he figured that with future science, male pregnancy might not be that rare. He didn’t take it to heart and kept reading.
——Shen Pin pressed Fei Yisa against the wall, pinched his chin, and kissed him fiercely.
“…”
Pei Yule closed the book and took a deep breath to clear his mind. Right, he shouldn’t be surprised. This was his sister’s “private collection,” so such descriptions were expected. He just couldn’t accept it all at once.
Since his sister had specifically recommended it and asked for a rating, he decided to finish it. Besides, he was curious how such a twisted relationship could possibly be resolved.
Having steeled himself, he continued reading. Because he was mentally prepared, he wasn’t surprised when the two male leads moved from kissing to the bed. The descriptions were incredibly “hot,” and the “hand-to-hand combat” was intense. Pei Yule didn’t want to admit it, but his face was definitely heating up.
Fortunately, that scene ended quickly. But the male lead, Shen Pin, was a total scumbag. After doing this and that to Fei Yisa, he suddenly felt guilty, thinking he was betraying his “White Moonlight” (his one true love/ideal). So, he abandoned the bruised and swollen Fei Yisa to go find his White Moonlight.
What followed was a mess of convoluted plot points and endless “dog blood” (cliché drama). After finishing the short novel of about twenty chapters, Pei Yule was genuinely confused.
If they wanted to date, just date. Why was there so much physical and mental abuse? Why the “stand-ins” and “White Moonlights”? Weren’t there a bit too many tropes?
His head was full of question marks. He couldn’t lie and say it was good. The writing was fine, but the logic was… non-existent!
Hearing Pei Yihuan still laughing outside, Pei Yule walked out silently and said to her, “I’m done.”
Pei Yihuan blinked, putting her reading aside. “How was it?” she asked expectantly.
Pei Yule was brutally honest: “The plot is illogical. Setting aside the world-building, I don’t understand why the male lead has a White Moonlight but keeps messing with the other lead. Why doesn’t he just pursue the White Moonlight? Their statuses are equal; aren’t they a better match? The whole story feels like it’s being cruel for the sake of being cruel. It’s weird.”
“…” Pei Yihuan grew annoyed. “What’s weird about it! What do you know? The ‘longing for what you can’t have’ is what makes it exciting!”
Pei Yule found it even stranger: “But didn’t the male lead have a change of heart and fall for the stand-in?”
Pei Yihuan coughed and whispered, “Well, I like the official couple too…” She hadn’t had the heart to break up the original pair.
“?” Pei Yule didn’t get it. Reading this had wasted his entire afternoon. He handed the book back. “Every character in here acts like a lunatic. Their behavior is unacceptable. Getting jealous can ruin a person’s life? It’s too strange. I don’t recommend keeping this.”
“…” He had truly rated it as worthless. Determined to change his mind, Pei Yihuan handed him a beautifully bound book from the sofa. “Then read this one!”
The original work would surely impress him! Otherwise, she wouldn’t have loved it enough to write fanfiction.
Pei Yule refused. “No more.”
Today had been eye-opening enough. Learning how men did that was a bit too stimulating; he didn’t want to go through it again.
Pei Yihuan stood up and pulled his hand. “Brother, trust me, this one is really good—”
“Watch out…” Pei Yule’s eyes were sharp. Seeing his sister lose her balance, he reached out to steady her, but his foot caught on a nearby chair. He lunged forward uncontrollably—
His head slammed hard against the corner of the table. Everything went black, and amidst his sister’s panicked screams, he lost consciousness.
When Pei Yule regained consciousness and opened his eyes, he immediately sensed something was wrong.
He wasn’t in his room. He was standing in a very spacious playground/sports field.
Wait? Where is this…?
His mind was filled with confusion. Wasn’t he just bickering with his sister? How did he get here? He clearly remembered the sharp pain in his forehead before passing out, but now, there was no pain at all.
Moreover, his nose felt light—he wasn’t wearing his glasses. Yet, despite that, everything before him was crystal clear.
This was highly abnormal. Pei Yule was severely nearsighted. Without glasses, the world usually had a white, blurry filter over it. But now, his vision was better than ever. He could even read the text on a banner over ten meters away.
This clarity made him uncomfortable. He reflexively reached up to rub his eyes, only to discover a new problem.
He was holding a bouquet of flowers.
A bouquet of bright red roses. As soon as he realized this, their heavy fragrance flooded his nose. He tried to hold it in but couldn’t, letting out a loud sneeze.
As the sneeze faded, unfamiliar memories flooded his mind without warning, making him dizzy. The dizziness passed quickly, but Pei Yule’s expression became quite colorful.
Suddenly, he had the memories of another person.
Because of these memories, he knew why he was holding flowers and why so many people were staring at him.
He was about to confess to Fei Yisa.
Fei Yisa: an Omega, lime-scented pheromones, indecisive personality, a total crybaby, and his most “sexy” feature was his waist dimples. Pei Yule couldn’t be blamed for remembering so clearly—Fei Yisa was one of the male leads in the book he had just finished.
The pitiable “stand-in” protagonist who was physically and mentally abused.
In the “memories” that had appeared, Pei Yule recognized the boy. Right in front of him stood a young man looking at him with a bewildered expression. He looked quite heroic, not at all like the fragile Omega described in the book. His skin was a healthy tan, and he looked much sturdier than Pei Yule, who spent most of his time gaming at home.
“…”
Pei Yule looked calm on the surface, but his mind was in total chaos. Thanks to these “memories,” he knew he had never met this person, yet he knew for a fact this was Fei Yisa.
And here he was, holding roses, prepared to confess.
This scene also existed in his memory, but in text form. Since he had just read it, he even knew what Fei Yisa would say next:
“You said you had something to tell me. What is it?”
Sure enough.
Pei Yule closed his eyes. He remembered clearly that in that magical book with six genders, this scene existed. A “Mob Character A” (a background character) had gone to confess to Fei Yisa. Normally, that wouldn’t be a big deal. However, the male lead of the book, Shen Pin, was black-hearted. Even though Shen Pin hadn’t figured out his true feelings for Fei Yisa yet, his possessiveness was off the charts. Seeing someone confess made him jealous and furious. He punished the “Mob Character” by handing him over to a sadistic man who tortured him until his life was completely ruined.
That was why Pei Yule had thought the book was nonsensical—who would write such an unreliable plot?
Especially now that he had the memories of that Mob Character and was about to perform the same action, his mood became very unpleasant.
Having read countless novels, he was naturally familiar with the “Transmigration into a Book” trope. Could it be that he had also transmigrated…?
And into a book with such warped values, where everyone was a “lunatic” and no one was normal? Worse, based on this development, was his life as a background character going to end the moment it began?
“Hello?”
Fei Yisa waved his fingers in front of Pei Yule’s face, noticing his vacant stare.
“…”
Though only a few lines were dedicated to it, Pei Yule remembered that the background character who confessed to Fei Yisa met a terrible end. Seeing Fei Yisa step closer, Pei Yule shuddered. Instinctively, he tried to step back, only to bump into a “wall of flesh” behind him.
He spun around. The first thing he saw was a smooth chin. He looked up and saw a face so handsome it could be called beautiful.
The man was tall. He looked down at Pei Yule and smiled. “Right, let me hear it too. What are you looking for Xiao Sa for?”
Even though the man was smiling, Pei Yule reflexively trembled. A chill crawled from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.
There was no smile in those eyes!
No doubt about it—this person was Shen Pin.
The “Shen Lunatic” whose jealousy was insane and who would make anyone suffer if he was unhappy.
Thinking about what this man did in the book, Pei Yule’s spine went cold. The roses in his hand felt like a hot potato. Although he still didn’t understand exactly what was happening, his survival instinct screamed that he couldn’t let the plot proceed as it did in the book.
He could not let a lunatic like Shen Pin hold a grudge against him.
He considered whether he could just make a run for it. Just then, Fei Yisa took another step closer, asking curiously, “Yeah, what did you want to say to me?”
Seeing Pei Yule remain silent while holding those flamboyant roses, Fei Yisa couldn’t help but speculate: “Are these flowers for me? Do you… towards me…”
“…No!”
Pei Yule denied it flatly.
With Fei Yisa in front and Shen Pin behind, his already chaotic mind went blank. Aside from denying it, he didn’t know what to do. In his desperation, he only remembered one thing: don’t follow the original plot, and don’t get on Shen Pin’s radar. His mind raced. Just then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw someone walking toward them.
A spark of inspiration hit him. He took a step forward, steeled his heart, and forcefully shoved the roses into that person’s hands!
“I got the wrong person… the flowers are for him!”
As soon as he spoke, the surroundings fell into a dead silence.
“What…?” Fei Yisa’s eyes widened in shock.
Two rose petals rustled and fell, landing on a pair of clean sneakers.
A hand caught the bouquet Pei Yule had shoved over. The large, lush bouquet blocked most of the person’s face, making it impossible to see his expression.
Pei Yule didn’t have time to study his expression. He saw Fei Yisa’s shocked face and saw Shen Pin slowly narrowing his eyes, tilting his head.
For some reason, Pei Yule’s heart began to thump wildly. He felt that Shen Pin’s gaze was full of suspicion. Realizing his excuse was very flimsy—after all, he had called someone out while holding roses—he decided to go all the way to convince Shen Pin.
He took a deep breath, threw caution to the wind, and lunged forward to hug the person (and the flowers). He closed his eyes and shouted:
“I like you! Please date me!”
The surroundings fell into a deathly silence. Pei Yule clearly heard a gasp. His heart was still racing, wondering if he had successfully fooled Shen Pin. Suddenly, a hand reached out, pressed against his shoulder, and slowly pushed him away.
Two more rose petals rustled to the ground. The bouquet was casually handed off. Out of the corner of his eye, Pei Yule saw a boy with a mole under his eye step forward with a smile to take the flowers, then quietly retreat.
With the flowers gone, the face they had hidden was fully revealed.
Refined features, superior contours—the person was somewhere between a man and a boy. His narrow Phoenix eyes were slightly narrowed, looking down at Pei Yule with a cold, condescending gaze.
He didn’t say a word. That single, cold, downward glance was enough to make Pei Yule’s heart sink.
At that moment, the blurry memories belonging to the “other person” fully awakened. Pei Yule “recognized” who this person was.
Huo Juan.
…The “White Moonlight” that Shen Pin was obsessed with.
Heavens, this is going to be the death of me.
