After Transmigrating as a Beta, I Got Messed Up with an Alpha (BL) - Chapter 4
Hearing Huo Juan’s voice, Xu Yanxi considered for a moment, then looked down at Pei Yule.
Sweat beaded on the Beta’s forehead, and he couldn’t stand steadily without support. However, his expression remained conscious, filled with the bewilderment of someone who had no idea what was going on.
As an Alpha, Xu Yanxi found it difficult to withstand the suppression of Huo Juan’s pheromones during his Rut, which were being released without restraint. Yet this Beta was still awake and hadn’t fainted. It was quite interesting.
He weighed whether to follow Huo Juan’s earlier command.
Huo Juan’s Rut was different from that of an ordinary Alpha. It was restless and impatient, with pheromones a hundred times more domineering than usual, sweeping over everyone indiscriminately. Strangely, he didn’t require the consolation of an Omega. As the heir to the Huo family, he never lacked Omegas. During his first Rut at the age of fourteen, his father had tried to find an Omega to help him through it. However, Huo Juan had driven the Omega away, refusing to surrender to his Alpha instincts.
Even in this state, Huo Juan remained conscious. He knew what he wanted and what he didn’t.
So…
Xu Yanxi smiled and steadied Pei Yule, stepping back and intending to pull him inside. He wanted to test things out.
Unexpectedly, Huo Juan’s voice rang out again from within: “…Forget it. Take him away.”
Hmm? Are you sure?
Hearing Huo Juan’s voice, which sounded even more strained than before, Xu Yanxi was surprised. This Rut seemed more violent than any previous one; in fact, even the Alphas who usually followed them didn’t dare approach.
As a fellow Alpha, he understood how miserable Huo Juan must be feeling.
Xu Yanxi looked down at Pei Yule again. The boy still wore a look of utter confusion, seemingly unaware of why his legs were weak. However, he had heard Huo Juan’s words. His eyes lit up slightly, and taking advantage of the situation, he said, “Since that’s the case, it’s getting late… I’ll head back first…”
He didn’t want to be near this smiling guy with the tear mole. Despite the smile, Pei Yule felt a sense of danger from him. He tried to stand up straight, but the consequence of his bravado was a stumble backward. Xu Yanxi caught him once again.
“?” Why do my limbs have no strength? Pei Yule was baffled. Although he had read his sister’s “collection,” the ABO setting had been glossed over. He knew Alphas were leaders, Betas were ordinary, and Omegas could somehow get pregnant, but he didn’t truly understand the mechanics.
He didn’t realize that his current state was the instinctive submission of a Beta to a powerful Alpha’s pheromones.
“Even though he told you to leave, I think it’s better if you stay for a bit,” Xu Yanxi mused, deciding to keep him there.
He knew what had happened between Huo Juan and Pei Yule today. He was the one who arranged for the four Alphas to bring Pei Yule here, as he was curious about the two of them. However, when Huo Juan’s Rut hit during the fourth period, Xu Yanxi had considered that Pei Yule shouldn’t be near him to avoid suffering.
But looking at him now, aside from some weak knees, this Beta showed no other abnormalities. He was sturdier than many Alphas.
Xu Yanxi pressed down on Pei Yule’s shoulder, the tear mole adding a touch of malice to his handsome face. He said, “Follow me to the room next door.”
He wouldn’t act entirely on his own authority. Huo Juan told him to take Pei Yule away but didn’t say where. Therefore, as long as he didn’t take him inside, it was fine. He also needed to stay to monitor Huo Juan’s condition. The man should be able to suppress it soon.
“No, wait, I don’t want to,” Pei Yule protested, trying to squirm out of Xu Yanxi’s grip. “I want to go home—”
“Oh?” Xu Yanxi’s tone rose playfully. “Does speaking nicely to you not work? I don’t want to get rough.”
As he spoke, his grip on Pei Yule’s shoulder tightened slightly. Pei Yule felt the pressure on his collarbone. While not exactly painful, combined with Xu Yanxi’s sideways glance, he felt a distinct aura of danger.
“…”
Pei Yule remembered. This Xu Yanxi, who always smiled and looked somewhat flamboyant, was also a character not to be trifled with in the book. He wasn’t a lackey; he was a childhood friend who stood on equal footing with Huo Juan.
People called him the “Smiling Asura.”
Pei Yule had mocked that “edgy” nickname back then, but facing Xu Yanxi’s threatening smile up close, he instinctively swallowed his spit. He was a very pragmatic person. Given his thin limbs and mysterious lack of strength, resistance was futile.
He slumped his shoulders and allowed himself to be led into the empty classroom next door.
“Good boy.”
Xu Yanxi brought him in and tossed him onto a long sofa, leaving him with a smile. Once he no longer had to support his own weight, the contact with the sofa seemed to ease Pei Yule’s tension, and he realized his fingers were trembling uncontrollably.
Pei Yule found it strange. Even when he gripped his fingers, the shaking wouldn’t stop. He asked blankly, “What… what’s happening to me?”
“Whew.”
Xu Yanxi took off his school jacket and casually unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt, brushing his sweat-dampened bangs back. “It’s nothing. You’ll be fine after a while. You’re actually quite impressive for not passing out.”
Actually, he should be glad he’s a Beta, Xu Yanxi thought. If he were an Omega… it wouldn’t just be weak knees. A meaningful glint flashed across his face.
“?” Why would I faint? Pei Yule didn’t understand. His “memories” told him he was healthy and rarely sick.
Seeing his confused expression, Xu Yanxi sat down on another bench. Huo Juan’s pheromones were affecting him too, making him irritable. If he weren’t worried that this Rut was more violent than usual, he would have left long ago. He exhaled slightly and rubbed his brow. “Just stay there. You’ll be fine in a bit.”
Then, Pei Yule saw Xu Yanxi close his eyes. The Alpha’s forehead was covered in sweat, and his whole body looked tense and uncomfortable.
As the minutes ticked by, Pei Yule grew restless. His intuition told him to run as soon as possible. His fingers hadn’t stopped shaking. Ever since he sensed Huo Juan’s pheromones, his limbs had been soft. He finally couldn’t help but ask: “Um… is Huo Juan… unwell?”
If he’s sick, shouldn’t he see a doctor? Staying here won’t solve anything, right?
Hearing the question, Xu Yanxi slowly opened his eyes. He stared at Pei Yule for a moment and teased, “It seems you were daydreaming during Health Class.”
No. 1 High School was a mixed school with all three genders. To prevent accidents caused by ignorance, there were mandatory ABO Health Classes every semester for Alphas, Omegas, and even Betas. After all, if affected by a “Heat,” even a Beta could commit a crime.
Health Class? What Health Class?
Pei Yule searched the “memories” of the background character… and remembered! Right, the class mentioned Alphas have Ruts and Omegas have Heats. Both are extremely troublesome. An Alpha’s Rut can cause uncontrollable violence and aggression, making it a period everyone avoids. An Omega’s Heat is even worse, as their pheromones can induce others to attack or claim them—it’s uncontrollable for both parties!
At this moment, Pei Yule was once again glad he was an ordinary Beta. No Heats, no Ruts, no need to surrender to instinct.
He understood what was happening to Huo Juan. A Rut.
No wonder the Alphas who brought him here were afraid to approach, and even Xu Yanxi looked uncomfortable. They were all being affected by Huo Juan’s pheromones. Pei Yule realized that his own shaking hands were likely the result of that influence too.
It wasn’t surprising. This was Huo Juan, the “top-tier” Alpha with incredibly powerful pheromones. Usually, an Alpha in Rut needs an Omega’s comfort, otherwise they fall into madness. But Pei Yule could sense that Huo Juan was alone next door.
Will he be okay? He swallowed, wanting to ask Xu Yanxi but not daring to. He stayed silent, pretending he knew nothing.
Knowing it was a Rut, he was relieved Huo Juan had changed his mind about letting him in. An Alpha in Rut is irritable and violent. He had no desire to witness that.
He prayed for the day to end safely. Seeing Xu Yanxi close his eyes again, he curled up on the sofa. As time passed, his fingers continued to shake. He bit his lip. Though he planned to endure it, seeing the sun go down, he couldn’t help himself.
“Um, how much longer do I have to stay? I want to go home…”
“…”
Xu Yanxi opened his eyes slightly. The suppression from next door was triggering his own Alpha instincts—he didn’t want to be suppressed by another. He was becoming increasingly agitated; the smile was gone, replaced by a tense expression. He pinched the bridge of his nose and snapped, “Student Pei, be a good boy and stay there. It’ll be over in a moment.”
Looking at the time, Huo Juan should be stabilizing. Otherwise, Xu Yanxi himself might lose his temper under the influence.
“…” Fine, I’ll shut up.
Pei Yule noticed the shift in Xu Yanxi’s attitude and decided to stay quiet. He hoped that once the Rut eased, he’d be allowed to leave.
However, things were not that optimistic.
A second later, a loud “BANG” came from next door, making Pei Yule nearly jump out of his skin. Xu Yanxi’s eyes snapped open, his expression turning grave.
Before Pei Yule could even ask what happened, another loud bang followed—much closer this time. The door to this classroom was kicked open!
“Didn’t I say… let you take him away.”
A low, cold voice rang out from the doorway. The person slowly withdrew his long leg and stepped inside.
The classroom had grown dim as the sun set, making it hard to see Huo Juan’s face. All they knew was that the moment the door was kicked open, a violent wave of pheromones flooded the room. The space was instantly filled with the heavy scent of cold cypress, making it almost impossible to breathe.
Though he was speaking to Xu Yanxi, his eyes were fixed on Pei Yule.
As he approached, Pei Yule’s heart tightened and his spine tingled. His intuition sent a clear, frantic signal…
He was in big trouble.
