After Transmigrating as a Beta, I Got Messed Up with an Alpha (BL) - Chapter 6
The day Huo Juan fell into his Rut was Friday, and the next day was Saturday. For the following two days, Pei Yule didn’t have to go to school. He had to admit, he was immensely relieved.
Having arrived in this world out of thin air, he would have been completely blind and clueless if it weren’t for the “memories” of the background character. Taking advantage of the weekend while alone at home, Pei Yule carefully researched if there was any way to go back.
Evidently, this surreal situation defied explanation. He didn’t have any magical artifacts like those in novels that could trigger a transmigration. He was confused about how he got here, so he naturally had no idea how to leave.
Seeing that he couldn’t find a solution, Pei Yule felt dejected for a while but then forced himself to cheer up and focus on other things. No matter how much life sucked, he had to keep living. Though he had only been here for two days, he felt exhausted and missed everything about his home.
However, moping around the house wasn’t an option. What happened had happened; hiding wouldn’t return him to his world. Bracing himself to get familiar with this world was more in line with his naturally optimistic personality.
So, he didn’t stay depressed for long. He found an ABO science guide and read it from cover to cover with great focus.
Although he had the original owner’s memories, that person had been a Beta with only a surface-level understanding of Alphas and Omegas. The original owner did attend health classes, but as Xu Yanxi said, his mind had been wandering the entire time. He had spent his days thinking about Fei Yisa and only paid attention to the parts about Omegas, making him quite ignorant regarding Alphas.
As a result, his memories had cognitive biases. While he knew Alphas had Ruts that caused irritability and a loss of control, he didn’t know the specific details. According to the guide, Ruts varied by individual, but most became aggressive. In a state of total loss of reason, they might even kill.
Pei Yule recalled the situation then. He wasn’t sure if Huo Juan had completely lost his mind, given that the man remembered not to hurt him and even told him to leave. But for a person with that personality to act that way meant he was struggling hard against his primal instincts.
Belatedly, Pei Yule realized that even in that state, Huo Juan hadn’t harmed him. Though it was likely a result of the man’s own struggle not to yield to impulse, Pei Yule was still quite grateful.
“It must be so hard for them…”
He murmured. After gaining a deeper understanding of Alphas and Omegas, he genuinely felt a bit of sympathy.
As an Omega, even a male can get pregnant and suffers from “Heats.” During a Heat, they release pheromones against their will, tempting others into impulsive behavior. They usually rely on suppressants, but those have side effects and can damage the body. Aside from being marked, there is no better solution. Once marked, an Omega will not go into Heat for any Alpha other than their marker. Under the influence of the marker’s pheromones, the Heat can be suppressed more effectively than with drugs and without side effects. However, once completely marked, an Omega cannot actively break the mark and must depend on their marker to survive.
Conversely, the Alpha who marks them faces no such rigid restriction. Even if they have marked an Omega, they can mark others if they so choose. This one-sided dependency made Pei Yule feel very sorry for Omegas.
Alphas didn’t have it all great either. Even a top-tier Alpha like Huo Juan was helpless against the Rut, forced to hurt himself to maintain his sanity. Thinking of the bloody sight of Huo Juan fighting for his reason that day, Pei Yule felt his heart go out to him.
In retrospect, the Transmigration God hadn’t been too cruel to him. In this world, he was a Beta. He didn’t suffer from Heats, so he didn’t need to depend on an Alpha to live peacefully. He had no Rut, so he didn’t have to worry about doing something irredeemable while out of his mind.
Aside from not knowing if he could go home, things weren’t entirely terrible here. After all, if he had transmigrated into a male Omega who could get pregnant and had to deal with recurring Heats, he truly wouldn’t know what to do.
He was pondering this as he flipped to the last few pages of the guide regarding Betas. Seeing the description—that they made up the majority of the population and were no different from the “ordinary people” he knew—made him feel much safer. He flipped to the very end and saw a line of small print.
Male Betas who mate with Alphas can also produce offspring, though the probability is extremely low.
…What the hell?
Male Betas can also get pregnant?!
Pei Yule’s eyes widened. He looked down at his flat stomach, his mind full of question marks. How does a male Beta get pregnant? Isn’t he just like a normal man?
Pei Yule hadn’t noticed anything unusual during his showers over the past two days. This background character didn’t just look like him; the body seemed identical. He even found a mole on the thigh in the exact same spot as his original body. He felt no dissonance with this body, as if it had always been his.
He was relieved he didn’t have to face a completely foreign body every day, but the idea that this familiar body could get pregnant was unacceptable. He couldn’t imagine himself as a pregnant man. Isn’t this a horror story?
He knew that male Omegas developed a pregnancy-capable organ during their Heat; could it be the same for male Betas? But male Betas don’t have Heats, so how would they get pregnant?
With a head full of questions, Pei Yule faced Monday.
It was time to go to school. He packed his things and headed out. Though he felt a bit of resistance, since he had decided to live a good life, he wouldn’t skip school. He had learned that Betas made up 90% of the population and were the backbone of society. This identity’s family was reasonably well-off, but since he was an “imposter,” he couldn’t shamelessly let them support him forever. He had to study hard to master everything so he could lead his own life in this world.
Knowledge changes fate! Study hard, young man!
His resolve was firm—until he stepped into the classroom and saw the tall figure sitting in the back of the fourth row. His determination suddenly deflated like a punctured tire. He immediately pulled back his foot and wanted to bolt.
Not seeing Huo Juan was fine, but seeing him brought back memories of being pinned down, helpless and at his mercy. When the man was biting his own palm, they had been very close. Pei Yule had been too panicked to notice then, but in hindsight, their bodies had been almost completely pressed together. His 182cm (approx. 6’0″) height seemed tiny under Huo Juan’s shadow.
That difference in physique, combined with the lingering fear from that day, made his scalp tingle instinctively the moment he saw Huo Juan. His intuition told him to stop getting involved with the man. He needed to stay away.
However, reality was not so cooperative. The figure at the back of the fourth row moved slightly. Those dark, downcast eyes looked up and landed accurately on Pei Yule.
The gaze seemed calm and placid, yet Pei Yule couldn’t help but remember this handsome boy with blood on his lips and an unnatural flush on his face, staring at him with crimson eyes like he was prey.
Recalling it later was truly terrifying. Pei Yule wanted to enter the classroom even less now.
Xu Yanxi, who had been whispering something to Huo Juan, noticed the gaze and followed it. He saw Pei Yule standing at the door with a hesitant look, seemingly debating whether to come in. He narrowed his eyes and took the lead to wave. “Hi, good morning, Student Pei.”
“…”
The attention drawn by one of the school’s star figures smiling and greeting you was not to be underestimated. Instantly, almost everyone in the room turned to look at him with varying expressions.
Under these circumstances, how could Pei Yule turn and run?
He took a deep breath, gripped his backpack strap, and told himself it was fine. Huo Juan hadn’t hurt him during the Rut, and his two days at home had been peaceful. The “hard life” Xu Yanxi warned him about hadn’t happened. Maybe he shouldn’t be afraid.
As long as he pretended nothing happened, Huo Juan surely wouldn’t make things difficult. After all, the man had shown he was a “good person” by not hurting him during the Rut. He forced himself to believe this and walked into the classroom under the public gaze, responding to Xu Yanxi as naturally as possible: “Morning.”
His seat was the third in the second row, quite far from Huo Juan. He wanted to return to his seat, but as he turned into the second row, he heard two light thuds—the sound of someone tapping a desk.
Then came a slightly low voice: “Come here.”
Pei Yule thought Huo Juan wasn’t talking to him. Rather, he wanted to pretend Huo Juan wasn’t talking to him. He continued walking toward his seat, but the “helpful” Xu Yanxi raised his voice and smiled. “Student Pei, your seat is over here.”
“…” He called me out by name. I can’t pretend anymore.
The stares from the surrounding students felt like needles. Pei Yule stopped, turned around, and met Huo Juan’s eyes.
The boy’s face was no longer tense or wild. Those narrow dark eyes were deep and calm, devoid of emotion. Pei Yule took a breath, about to say his seat was over here, when Xu Yanxi smiled again. “We helped you change seats. Come sit here.”
All his excuses were cut off.
Pei Yule was silent for a moment. His reason struggled between protest and submission before he grumpily exited the second row and walked toward the empty seat next to Huo Juan in the fourth row.
He thought recklessly: It’s just a seat. A change is a change. It’s not the first time I’ve been the center of attention. I’ll get used to the staring. They can’t stare me to death. It’s no big deal.
Like a soldier heading to the battlefield, Pei Yule moved step by step to the seat next to Huo Juan and sat down.
Once he sat, the cold cypress scent wrapped around his nose, silently and slowly surrounding him. Perhaps because Huo Juan was restraining himself, Pei Yule didn’t feel dizzy or weak even at such a close distance.
Since Huo Juan was back at school, his Rut must be over. It only lasted three days; that was quite fast.
As he thought this, Pei Yule stuffed his backpack into the new desk, privately wondering if he should move the desk a few inches away. As he pulled his hand out of the desk compartment, a hot hand suddenly reached out and grabbed his.
Caught off guard, Pei Yule nearly jumped from the heat of the touch. He turned in shock, staring at Huo Juan who had reached over. He was too stunned to speak.
Because his hand was grabbed under the desk, it was likely blocked by the furniture, so others couldn’t see. However, Pei Yule’s strange reaction still caught some attention. Xu Yanxi rubbed his chin, said nothing, and turned back to his own seat with a smile.
In truth, the first thing Huo Juan did after waking up was use his family’s influence to suppress any information about Pei Yule’s existence and erase the record of his injury. No matter how much Xu Yanxi wanted to watch the drama, he had to remember this was Huo Juan’s wish and avoid stepping on any landmines.
Pei Yule’s lips moved, but no sound came out. After a while, sensing that people were no longer paying constant attention to them, he finally tried to pull his hand away. He couldn’t budge it. He whispered: “Hey, you… what are you doing?”
Pei Yule had goosebumps all over, but with so many people in the classroom, he didn’t dare make too large a movement. And worse, even if he used all his strength, he might not break free. He had tried before; this person had monstrous strength and could easily render him immobile.
He had just convinced himself the guy was a “good person”—was he being proven wrong so soon?
Huo Juan looked back at Pei Yule calmly, ignoring the subtle struggling under the desk, and kept a firm grip on his hand. In fact, if they weren’t in a crowded classroom, he would have gathered the boy into his arms.
What am I doing? He simply found a “specific medicine” for his pain and didn’t want to deprive himself.
That was all.
There were still four hours until the lunch break. And once the lunch break arrived… it wouldn’t be as simple as just holding a hand.
A glint flashed in Huo Juan’s eyes. Beneath his calm expression, he was enduring the high heat left over from the Rut. He didn’t speak to Pei Yule; he simply held his hand under the desk and leaned over the table with his eyes closed to rest.
