After Transmigrating as a Beta, I Got Messed Up with an Alpha (BL) - Chapter 7
When the class started, Huo Juan withdrew his hand.
Pei Yule, who had mentally rehearsed several ways to politely ask him to let go in front of everyone, felt quite strange. He felt a sense of stifled frustration, like someone who had just started taking things seriously only to have the other person give up immediately.
Of course, it was a good thing that Huo Juan was willing to let go. Actually, the guy hadn’t done anything excessive; he had just held his hand.
After experiencing that “hooligan-like” behavior where Huo Juan hugged him, and having gained some understanding of the ABO world view over the past two days, Pei Yule couldn’t help but start to suspect something.
Could it be that he possessed some strange trait that made Alphas calm down, which is why this Alpha kept acting this way toward him?
It didn’t seem like the guy liked him; after all, besides grabbing his hand and a couple of hugs, he hadn’t done anything particularly over the line. Could it be, as the guide mentioned, that he had a special constitution that could soothe Alphas?
Probably not… He wasn’t an Omega. The guide only said Omegas had that kind of constitution; it never mentioned Betas being able to do it too.
Unfortunately, he didn’t have any other Alpha friends to test his theory on, otherwise he wouldn’t be so confused.
Pei Yule instinctively touched his wrist where Huo Juan had grabbed it, the lingering warmth of the other’s body still present. For the rest of the time, Huo Juan remained very quiet, simply leaning on the desk and ignoring everyone. No one came to talk to him either. Even Xu Yanxi was quiet and disappeared as soon as class ended. With no one harassing him or staring at him, Pei Yule spent four peaceful periods, almost wondering if the interaction with Huo Juan before class had been a figment of his imagination.
However, that thought was shattered when the morning classes ended and lunch break began.
As the bell echoed through the campus, Huo Juan, who had been sleeping on the desk, stirred and slowly sat upright.
At that moment, Pei Yule was packing his books, happily thinking about what to eat at the student canteen. Just as he put his books neatly back into the desk and pulled his hand out, Huo Juan caught it again.
…Again?
Just as the thought flashed through his mind, he felt a tug. He was pulled to his feet by Huo Juan.
He said in shock, “Huo Juan?”
The other person had no intention of explaining and just pulled him along.
“Wait…”
Huo Juan turned a deaf ear. Under his restraint, Pei Yule couldn’t break free at all and was forced to follow behind him at a quick pace.
After class, half the people in the room went to find food, but the remaining half were dumbfounded to see Huo Juan pulling a previously invisible Beta out of the classroom.
“What’s going on? Am I seeing things? Huo Juan is actually holding that Beta’s hand!”
“You’re not seeing things, I saw it too.”
“What’s the deal? That Beta’s name is Pei Yule, right? Since when were he and Huo Juan so close? Huo Juan even let him sit next to him today!”
“Actually, I know…” someone spoke up hesitantly.
The curious crowd immediately pressed, “Know what?”
The person replied, “A few days ago, that Beta confessed to Huo Juan with a huge bouquet of roses. When Huo Juan and Xu Yanxi went back, I saw them take the roses with them.”
“What? Does that mean Huo Juan accepted?!”
Another insider added, “On Friday, didn’t Huo Juan call that Beta away too? They actually went to the Physics classroom on the third floor.”
The Physics classroom on the third floor was Huo Juan’s private territory—an empty room no one was allowed to enter without his permission. In the entire school, probably only Xu Yanxi, the childhood friend, had ever stepped inside.
“…” The people who harbored fantasies about Huo Juan fell into a collective silence.
“So that’s why he moved the Beta’s seat next to his.” In three years of high school, even Xu Yanxi hadn’t sat with Huo Juan. When the Beta sat there this morning, they were already shocked, but because it was Huo Juan, they didn’t dare ask. After four periods with no interaction, they wondered if they were overthinking it—maybe the boss just had a sudden whim to have a desk-mate? They never expected that as soon as class ended, Huo Juan would be the one to take the initiative and hold the Beta’s hand…
After a short silence, someone murmured with unmistakable jealousy, “On what grounds? He’s just a mere Beta…”
The speaker was an Omega named Qiao Shengmo. Not only did he have high-quality pheromones, but his looks were exquisite—he was top-tier even among Omegas and had a famous reputation at No. 1 High School, even possessing a fan club.
His feelings for Huo Juan were public knowledge. Because Huo Juan was a “god-like” figure meant to be viewed from afar, Qiao Shengmo had always restrained himself, feeling he shouldn’t cause trouble. He had secretly thought that since Huo Juan treated every Omega with the same indifference except for him—whom he treated with a modicum of courtesy—if Huo Juan ever chose anyone, it would be him.
But now, Huo Juan had personally taken a Beta’s hand. This drove Qiao Shengmo insane with jealousy.
Pei Yule had no idea he had unwittingly made an enemy. Ignoring his resistance, he was once again brought to the private territory. He had zero good feelings toward this empty classroom, yet he seemed unable to escape it. This was where he first saw what an Alpha in Rut looked like, where he was first hugged by a man, and where…
Wait.
Crap. Pei Yule remembered that he had completely forgotten one thing. Before Huo Juan’s Rut, what did the guy say? He agreed to date him! Because so many things had happened afterward, he had completely forgotten to resolve this misunderstanding.
Could this be why Huo Juan moved his seat, held his hand in class, and brought him here after school? In Huo Juan’s mind, they were currently in a relationship?
This suspicion was confirmed when, after Huo Juan sat down, he pulled Pei Yule down to sit on his lap and wrapped his arms around him in a close embrace from behind.
No doubt about it. That’s exactly what he was thinking!
Pei Yule finally found the reason their wavelengths weren’t matching. Perhaps all his struggling along the way was interpreted by Huo Juan as shyness, which is why he ignored his refusals.
Because of the miscommunication, this guy brought him here and was touching him without restraint. Pei Yule looked down at the arms across his chest. He took a deep breath, feeling he couldn’t let this go on. He had to tell Huo Juan clearly that there was a mistake.
Seeing that Huo Juan had even buried his head in the crook of his neck, completely enveloping him, Pei Yule knew it was now or never. He said in an exceptionally serious tone, “Huo Juan, let go of me first and listen.”
Even if he got hit, he’d accept it. He really couldn’t stand this anymore. Huo Juan’s incredibly hot breath on his neck made his skin crawl. Moreover, perhaps because of the proximity and inhaling too much of Huo Juan’s pheromones, he started feeling dizzy and weak again.
And Huo Juan’s body temperature was way too high. He felt like he was sitting in a furnace, ready to be consumed.
This made Pei Yule highly alert. However, just as he steeled his resolve, there was a knock. Xu Yanxi walked in carrying two bags of stuff and placed them on the table. The aroma of food wafted out, slightly neutralizing the rising pheromones in the room.
The shame of being seen in a back-hug by Xu Yanxi made Pei Yule’s temples throb. He started struggling again. “Huo Juan, let go…” But if it were that easy to break free, he wouldn’t have been dragged all the way here.
Under his struggle, Huo Juan held him tighter, even grabbing Pei Yule’s hands to keep them from moving.
“Didn’t know what you liked, so I prepared a bit of everything,” Xu Yanxi said naturally, acting as if he didn’t see Huo Juan holding Pei Yule tightly. He moved two portions in front of them and prepared to leave.
Huo Juan was still in his Rut period. Although he had taken medicine to suppress it, he was still a dangerous guy. If Xu Yanxi stayed, it might trigger Huo Juan’s Alpha possessiveness. He knew Huo Juan too well; if Pei Yule wasn’t special, he would never be this close to someone, let alone hold them so tight.
A Beta, huh… Xu Yanxi smiled and considerately closed the door.
A second later, he suddenly reopened it and said to Pei Yule, “The medicine in the bag—remember to give it to him later, otherwise I won’t be responsible for what happens.”
Leaving that cryptic remark, Xu Yanxi closed the door again.
With a soft click, the two were alone. Pei Yule could feel Huo Juan’s grip tightening, as if a simple hug wasn’t enough and he wanted to merge him into his own body. Pei Yule felt like his bones were being crushed.
He couldn’t take it anymore. Both hands pinned, hot body temperature pressed against his back—no matter how mild-tempered he was, he couldn’t stay calm. Besides, he wasn’t exactly mild-tempered. If the tiger doesn’t show its teeth, you’ll think it’s Hello Kitty!
“I said… are you listening? I told you to let go!”
Since he couldn’t pull away, he used a headbutt, slamming the back of his head into the other’s. Ignoring the sharp pain in his own skull, he took advantage of the slight gap when Huo Juan recoiled and followed up with a hard elbow to the ribs.
Under the influence of anger, great things happen. He actually managed to strike the person away and break free!
Pei Yule scrambled off Huo Juan’s lap, quickly put distance between them, turned around, and glared at him, speaking at high speed: “I think there’s a misunderstanding between us. I’m sorry, I made a mistake before. I can’t date you!”
His words were loud and clear. He said it. He bravely said it!
Good job. Even a beating is worth it. Pei Yule secretly gave himself a thumbs-up and watched Huo Juan, waiting for his reaction. Would he be angry? Or accept it calmly?
Under his gaze, the boy-man leaned back slowly against the sofa, staring back with eyes that revealed nothing. He asked in a low voice, “So what?”
So what? The problem is huge! Did this guy not understand?
Realizing his words might have been a bit abrupt, Pei Yule took a deep breath and decided to be even more blunt: “I mean, my confession before was a mistake. Actually, I don’t like you—uh, so I can’t date you.”
Surely he’d understand now?
But the other person didn’t understand at all, only responding with the same four words: “So what.”
What a blockhead. Pei Yule was furious. “What do you mean ‘so what’? I’m saying I can’t date you! So stop doing those things, we aren’t in that kind of relationship.”
Huo Juan tilted his head. His tall frame sat on the sofa, quiet yet like a beast lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to pounce and tear at a throat.
Pei Yule felt a chill in his neck from his own imagination. He instinctively backed up a few steps, putting more distance between them until his back was against the door. The escape route made him feel slightly safer.
“Not in that kind of relationship…” Huo Juan repeated the phrase under his wary gaze.
Then his lips curled slightly. He slowly rose from the sofa and approached Pei Yule step by step. His pheromones were released, the cold cypress scent overwhelming. Pei Yule found his limbs going weak again. He had to lean against the door to stay upright; he couldn’t even manage to open the door and escape as planned.
When a top-tier Alpha releases pheromones, even other Alphas are intimidated, let alone a normal Beta.
His tall frame loomed over Pei Yule. Standing right in front of him, Huo Juan looked down, eyes narrowing slightly as he thought. After a moment, he said slowly, “I’m the one who has the final say on that.”
That was incredibly irritating.
Even though his limbs were jelly and he was sliding down the door under the pressure, Pei Yule still angrily tilted his head up and glared. “You’re too overbearing! This kind of thing requires mutual consent. How can you ignore someone else’s will?”
“Mm.”
What was more infuriating was that the guy actually admitted to being overbearing. Huo Juan bent down, hooking his arm around Pei Yule’s waist to catch his sliding body.
Before he could finish his sentence, the guy was acting up again. Pei Yule was about to force his weak legs to stand up and kick him away, when he suddenly felt a heavy weight. Huo Juan slumped his entire body against him!
“You guy—” This is getting out of hand! Pei Yule was about to snap, but he realized Huo Juan’s hands had let go. His head rested on Pei Yule’s shoulder, and his tall body continued to sink, pinning him directly to the floor!
Pei Yule’s back hit the cold tiles. Where they touched, he felt an abnormal, searing heat. Then he heard Huo Juan murmur lowly, “…Don’t move…”
He’s too heavy! What “don’t move”? He was about to suffocate!
Pei Yule’s lip twitched. With a heavy person pinned on top of him and his chest feeling crushed, he was going crazy. “Get up! I can’t breathe…”
Hearing him, the head buried in his neck moved slightly, as if trying to rise, but instead just rubbed against him like a big cat before going still again.
The hot breath fanned across his neck. The other’s high body temperature made Pei Yule shiver instinctively. His heart skipped a beat.
Strange… isn’t his temperature a bit too high?
He had felt this way all day. When Huo Juan first hugged him, his temperature definitely wasn’t this high…
Wait.
A spark of inspiration hit Pei Yule. Combined with the way Huo Juan was shamelessly refusing to get up and his aggressive behavior all day, he suddenly had a guess.
“…Are you having a fever?”
He was met with silence and the heavy weight pressing down on him.
Guess I’m on my own. Pei Yule struggled to reach out a hand from under Huo Juan and slapped it onto the other’s forehead. He clearly felt a startling, scorching heat transfer to his palm.
He understood now.
This guy was probably delirious from the fever. No wonder he was so hard to deal with all day and wouldn’t listen to a word!
