After Transmigrating as a Scum Alpha, a Cold Omega Stole My Heart - Chapter 3
Cheng Lingxue didn’t answer. Instead, she stared at Xie Shuyun with a long, unreadable gaze that made Xie Shuyun feel a bit creeped out. But setting aside the fact that Cheng Lingxue had just gone through a heat cycle yesterday, she was still a minor and in her growing years—how could she skip breakfast?
“Come and eat. There are many choices. You’ll have no energy at school on an empty stomach. At least come have a glass of milk.” Xie Shuyun used the gentlest tone possible to try and lower Cheng Lingxue’s guard, but to her surprise, Cheng Lingxue looked as if she’d seen a ghost, furrowing her brows and taking a step back.
Finally, Qin Yu couldn’t stand it anymore and stepped in. “Eldest Miss, Miss Cheng will be late at this rate.”
“…Late?” Xie Shuyun was confused. What did breakfast have to do with being late… ah, wait, it had everything to do with it!
The original owner didn’t allow Cheng Lingxue to ride in the car with her. Cheng Lingxue was forced to bike to school. The drive took twenty minutes, so the biking time would certainly be double that. Furthermore, the school was built on high ground with many uphill sections. Consequently, Cheng Lingxue had to leave an hour early every day to avoid being late—a routine that had persisted since she arrived at the Xie household.
Thinking of this, Xie Shuyun wanted to bury her face in her hands. She felt like a total scapegoat for the original owner’s sins, and she couldn’t even complain. With a long sigh, she tried to reason with Cheng Lingxue:
“I know you don’t want to be late. Just ride with me in the car later. Now, hurry over and eat.”
Hearing this, Cheng Lingxue was visibly stunned. A flash of reluctance crossed her eyes, and her thin lips parted to speak, but Xie Shuyun beat her to it:
“If you don’t come and eat while it’s hot, the servants will have to reheat it for you, which will take even more time.”
Forced to yield under someone else’s roof, Cheng Lingxue had no choice but to take off her sneakers and return to the table. She sat in the chair the maid pulled out for her and picked up a bun to eat.
Xie Shuyun watched as Cheng Lingxue ate only one bun and drank a glass of milk before stopping. She wanted to tell her to eat more—that amount wouldn’t keep her full—but Cheng Lingxue seemed to see through her intentions. An icy aura radiated from her, cold enough to turn anyone into an ice sculpture.
Half an hour later, Xie Shuyun finally put down her cutlery. Cheng Lingxue, who had been waiting for ages, immediately grabbed her backpack, appearing desperate to end this shared meal.
“Miss, the car is ready,” Qin Yu announced at the right moment.
The two girls, surrounded by a freezing atmosphere, boarded the same luxury sedan. They sat on opposite sides with enough space between them for two more people. Even the driver didn’t dare make a sound; the only noise throughout the journey was the hum of the engine until they reached the school.
“Wait, don’t get out yet.” Seeing Cheng Lingxue about to open the door, Xie Shuyun quickly stopped her. Perhaps cowed by the morning’s persistence, Cheng Lingxue froze her hand just as it reached the handle. She didn’t turn around, simply waiting silently for Xie Shuyun to speak.
Xie Shuyun sighed helplessly. She pulled a small cloth bag from her pocket and took out an unopened box. Inside was a white, collar-like object.
“This is for you. Put it on. Your heat cycle isn’t over yet; you need to protect your glands.”
Regarding the heat cycle, Xie Shuyun had done some serious research online and found this “Anti-Bite Device.” It could be worn by an Omega in heat to protect the glands while inhibiting the leakage of pheromones. Most importantly, it couldn’t be removed by anyone except the wearer, which greatly protected Omegas from Alpha attacks.
Of course, these devices were tiered by quality. The one Xie Shuyun bought was the best model available; it could deliver an electric shock to protect the user if attacked, and featured GPS tracking and recording functions. It was very high-tech.
Normally, any person who presented as an Omega would be equipped with one. Some Omegas even wore them every time they went out. An extremely rare Omega like Cheng Lingxue needed one even more, but the original owner had interfered and, intending to mark her, had forbidden anyone from providing one to her.
Cheng Lingxue turned her head slightly, staring at the object in Xie Shuyun’s hand. A flash of shock crossed her eyes. She slowly reached out, her fingertips pinching the corner of the box to take it quickly. The way she moved—cautious yet fast, as if fearing Xie Shuyun would take it back, and then turning the box over to inspect it—made Xie Shuyun smile bitterly.
Once she confirmed the box hadn’t been tampered with, Cheng Lingxue still didn’t move. Instead, she glared at Xie Shuyun out of the corner of her eye. They stared at each other for a long moment before Xie Shuyun realized: Cheng Lingxue was unwilling to expose her glands in front of her.
For an Alpha, showing one’s neck might be fine, but for an Omega, it was different. Unless it was with someone intimate, they usually used specialized patches to block prying eyes or wore an anti-bite device. It was very rare to see someone like Cheng Lingxue who had neither—and that, of course, was the original owner’s fault.
“Ahem… I’ll head out first. Put it on yourself. If you need help, the driver can find someone for you.”
Thump. The car door closed, making the vehicle sway slightly. Cheng Lingxue stopped looking at the box and watched the girl walk away with her backpack. Her grip on the box tightened until the packaging slightly deformed and her knuckles turned white.
What is wrong with this person? She’s been strange since this morning. Is she on the wrong medication? Thinking of that gentle tone, Cheng Lingxue subconsciously rubbed her arms; it gave her goosebumps.
“Ahem… Miss Cheng, if you don’t get out now, you’ll be late,” the driver coughed lightly, reminding the dazed girl.
Cheng Lingxue quickly unpacked the box and placed the device around her neck. The strap adjusted automatically, its thin layer fitting snugly against her skin. The small groove protecting the gland was made of a special material that wouldn’t irritate the sensitive area. The faint trace of pheromones lingering around her finally dissipated.
Once she felt everything was in order, Cheng Lingxue opened the door and stepped out.
“Yawn…” Xie Shuyun rubbed her eyes. Between researching this world’s rules and planning how to win the female lead’s favor, she had barely slept. The thought of having to attend classes now made her feel that life was truly difficult.
Suddenly, a gust of wind from a hand strike approached. Xie Shuyun’s Alpha instincts flared; she jumped aside, dodging the sneak attack.
“Ah, dammit! Failed again. Your reflexes are still so good! Good morning, Yun-zai!” A bright female voice rang out. Xie Shuyun turned to see a handsome girl with brown hair.
Looking at the girl, a flash of disbelief crossed Xie Shuyun’s eyes. This girl looked quite a bit like her old roommate. It made her feel like she finally had a companion in this unfamiliar place.
Wait, what was my roommate’s name again? No, don’t think about it. I’m in a book now!
Xie Shuyun deduced that this was the original owner’s childhood friend who had recently presented as an S-rank Alpha: Shang Yan. She was the only true friend who remained loyal to the original owner until the very end. Unfortunately, opposing the protagonist group never ends well; her family eventually fell into ruin, and she was sent abroad, never to return.
Xie Shuyun’s gaze toward Shang Yan became much warmer. She grabbed the girl’s hand and shook it, saying helplessly:
“Can’t you ever change your way of saying hello?”
“Hehe… I just can’t control my hands,” Shang Yan said, waving her hand. She then rubbed her chin and looked Xie Shuyun up and down. “But Boss, you’re in a great mood today. You used to come to school with a scowl. You feel different.”
As she spoke, Shang Yan looked past Xie Shuyun’s shoulder. Her eyes widened in shock, and she nudged Xie Shuyun in the ribs with her elbow. “Yun-zai, you actually rode in the same car as the School Beauty today? What medicine did you take by mistake? Don’t you hate her the most?”
Blocking Shang Yan’s nudge, Xie Shuyun looked back at Cheng Lingxue, who was currently the center of attention. Despite being isolated, Cheng Lingxue’s beauty inevitably earned her the title of “School Beauty”—she was a spotlight wherever she went.
“It’s fine now… let’s see who dares bully her again…” Xie Shuyun murmured under her breath.
“What did you say, Yun-zai? I didn’t hear you,” Shang Yan asked curiously. Xie Shuyun gently pushed her face away.
“Look where you’re going. Don’t you remember the last time you almost tripped and made a fool of yourself? Let’s get to class; the bell’s about to ring.”
“Oh… okay!”
Each grade had five classes. One was the “Rocket Class” (top-tier), and the others were split into A, B, C, and D based on grades. The students here were all wealthy or influential, and the tuition was astronomical. The original owner was a troublemaker, but her grades were actually ranked second in the grade—quite impressive. As for first place… that naturally belonged to Cheng Lingxue. This meant the two were in the same class.
Xie Shuyun walked to her seat in the back row. It was… very obvious. Her desk was covered in snacks with little cards and several love letters. It seemed that even with a terrible personality, the original owner’s face and family background were enough to keep people flocking to her.
Tossing her bag onto the adjacent chair, Xie Shuyun looked at the clutter with annoyance. She finally just brushed it all to the side to make room for her stationery.
“Eh? Aren’t you going to look at them, Yun-zai?” Shang Yan asked, surprised. Xie Shuyun used to enjoy the attention—she was the “scum” type who rejected those she didn’t like immediately, dated those she did for two days, and kicked them to the curb when she got bored.
“I’m not in the mood today. I’ll look later if I have time.” Xie Shuyun rubbed her temples, wondering how to erase her image as a playboy heartbreaker. Suddenly, a shout rang out.
“Oh my, Cheng Lingxue! How are you walking? How could you bump into me?”
Looking up, Xie Shuyun saw Cheng Lingxue standing at the door. She seemed unsteady on her feet, her right shoulder leaning against the doorframe. Her neatly pressed uniform had a massive stain on it.
Standing in front of her was a girl who was reasonably pretty, but whose looks were completely crushed when compared to Cheng Lingxue. The girl held a cup of milk tea with liquid still dripping from it. It was obvious where the stain on Cheng Lingxue’s uniform came from.
“Lin Xiaowen is targeting the School Beauty again… cough… Yun-zai… you…” Even though Shang Yan knew Xie Shuyun would never take Cheng Lingxue’s side, she honestly didn’t want these people to bully Cheng Lingxue just to please Xie Shuyun. But since that was Xie Shuyun’s usual stance, Shang Yan didn’t know what to do if she got caught in the middle.
Before Shang Yan could think of a solution, a figure brushed past her. The owner of that figure made her stand up in shock.
“Cheng Lingxue, don’t you have anything to say after bumping into someone? Hurry up and apologize! Then go buy me a new milk tea!” Lin Xiaowen said, lifting her chin arrogantly.
Looking at Cheng Lingxue’s silent expression, Lin Xiaowen’s eyes were full of triumph. She hated this face the most. If she’d known, she would have used hot milk tea and splashed it directly on her face—destroying that beauty would be so satisfying.
Cheng Lingxue kept her eyes lowered. She was numb and weary of these childish pranks. She heard gasps around her but didn’t care. It was probably… just another new way for them to flatter that person.
As she thought this, something suddenly draped gently over her head. There was no sticky, disgusting feeling—only the faint, fresh scent of fruit wine. She reached up to pull it off and realized it was a jacket…?
When she looked up, she saw a familiar, tall back standing in front of her. The gentle tone from the morning was gone, replaced by an icy coldness mixed with her usual hoodlum-like arrogance. Xie Shuyun barked at Lin Xiaowen:
“Class is about to start. Don’t you know how to keep quiet?”
