After Transmigrating as a Scum Alpha, a Cold Omega Stole My Heart - Chapter 6
“Student, please calm down.” The school doctor wiped her mouth, and seeing Xie Shuyun carrying someone on her back, she quickly pulled back a nearby curtain to reveal a sickbed.
“Put her here.”
“Oh, right, okay.” Xie Shuyun hurried over, bent down, and set Cheng Lingxue down. Once the two were finally separated from that close contact, she let out a sigh of relief. Phew… I successfully defended my glands.
Turning around, she met Cheng Lingxue’s contemplative gaze. It felt as if the girl was trying to see right through her, making Xie Shuyun instinctively avert her eyes.
Out of the corner of her eye, she watched the doctor inspect Cheng Lingxue’s anti-bite device, fiddle with a machine for a moment, and finally give Cheng Lingxue a shot of suppressor.
“Student, you’ve only recently presented, so your heat cycle is still unstable. It’s safer to carry suppressors with you at all times. Even with a protector, emergencies can still happen. Your rank is a rare SS, so you need to protect yourself even more. I have a few extra suppressors here; if you forgot yours today, I can give you two.”
“No need, I have them in my bag. Thank you.” Cheng Lingxue nodded politely to the doctor.
“That’s good then. Rest here for a while. You can leave once your vitals stabilize. Of course, let me know if you feel any discomfort.” After scribbling in her notebook, the doctor finally spoke again.
“I understand.”
Watching their interaction, Xie Shuyun felt the contrast in treatment was quite extreme. Thinking of the wound on her neck, she couldn’t help but touch it. Unsurprisingly, it was already red and swollen. The touch made her gasp in pain, feeling even more miserable.
Approaching the doctor, Xie Shuyun covered her neck and asked somewhat awkwardly:
“Doctor, do you have any ointment for abrasions?”
“You’re injured?” The doctor looked Xie Shuyun up and down, her gaze eventually landing on the hand covering her neck before shifting to Cheng Lingxue. Something flickered in her eyes, but she didn’t ask further. She pulled a tube of ointment from a drawer, but instead of giving it to Xie Shuyun, she pressed it into Cheng Lingxue’s hand.
Facing their confused stares, the doctor shrugged:
“The injury is on her neck, right? She won’t be able to see it to apply it herself. Since she brought you here, I assume you two know each other. Help her apply it. While you’re at it, clean those twigs and leaves off her. How can she face people looking so disheveled?”
Let Cheng Lingxue help me? But she’s the one who caused the wound! Xie Shuyun was embarrassed, but since the doctor left the room immediately after speaking, she could only shuffle over to Cheng Lingxue’s side and say hesitantly:
“Um… just give the medicine to me. I’ll do it myself. You should rest, don’t worry about it.”
To her surprise, Cheng Lingxue actually opened the cap of the ointment and looked up at her briefly. Xie Shuyun understood that look, but she was still hesitant. In the end, she gave in, pulled a low stool to the bedside, and sat with her back to Cheng Lingxue. She lifted her hair, exposing the back of her neck.
Thinking that she should take responsibility since she caused the wound, Cheng Lingxue’s expression became somewhat unnatural as she looked at the bite mark. It had stopped bleeding but was heavily swollen.
It wasn’t that she felt sorry for Xie Shuyun—after all, compared to what the other had done to her, this was just a drop in the bucket. Rather, the wound served as a reminder of her own immature behavior earlier. Impulsiveness was a grave mistake.
Fingering her trousers, Xie Shuyun felt Cheng Lingxue’s gaze lingering on her neck. It made her incredibly nervous, fearing that Cheng Lingxue was plotting against her glands again. Just then, a cold sensation touched the wound, making Xie Shuyun’s body jerk.
As the moist ointment was applied, the cooling sensation immediately quelled the pain, but Xie Shuyun’s attention was elsewhere.
More than the ointment, the fingertips lightly brushing her neck were far more distracting. Perhaps because of the glands, the neck area was exceptionally sensitive. Xie Shuyun clearly felt the fingertips moving; wherever the soft pads of the fingers touched, a tingling itch like an electric current made her body tremble slightly.
The fingertips soon pulled away, leaving Xie Shuyun feeling a strange sense of loss. She didn’t notice the searching, icy gaze from Cheng Lingxue behind her, whose brows were slightly knit as she pulled back, as if avoiding something.
…Heh, is this person really this sensitive? Cheng Lingxue looked at Xie Shuyun’s neck, which was flushed bright red all the way to her ears. Even her glands had a slight reaction, emitting a faint scent of rum that seemed to… betray a hint of innocence.
The thought flashed by and was immediately dismissed by Cheng Lingxue. This person, innocent? What a joke!
Yet, she shamefully discovered that her own body and glands were beginning to burn slightly, seemingly quite fond of this rum scent. This feeling disgusted Cheng Lingxue. She tore open a medicated patch and, with a sharp snap, slapped it directly onto Xie Shuyun’s neck.
“Waaah!” Still lost in her thoughts, Xie Shuyun nearly lost her balance from the surprise attack. She touched her neck; the cool, tingling sensation had turned back into pain. She gave Cheng Lingxue a somewhat aggrieved look. Why is this female lead so unpredictable?
Naturally, her protest went ignored. She could only dejectedly go to the full-length mirror in the corner to pick out the leaves and twigs stuck in her uniform and hair.
Once she tidied herself up, she returned to the stool by Cheng Lingxue’s side and asked softly:
“You don’t feel unwell anywhere else, do you?”
Cheng Lingxue pursed her lips, refusing to answer. It wasn’t just because of the other’s drastic change in attitude, but also because of her own restless state of mind. The feeling of losing control made her uneasy and even more guarded.
Gurgle… A sound echoed in the silent infirmary. Clutching her growling stomach, Xie Shuyun’s face heated up. She had only managed a few bites earlier and was nowhere near full. After all that running around, she was now starving.
That’s right! She had packed food… Xie Shuyun looked at the bag hanging from her elbow that she had long forgotten. She opened it carefully; the container was sturdy enough that the food hadn’t spilled, though it was all mixed together and didn’t look very appetizing.
What is this person’s goal? Why have her pheromones changed so much? Countless questions swirled in Cheng Lingxue’s mind. She kept her head down and her eyes half-closed, pondering these issues, when suddenly the aroma of food drifted over. Something approached her, causing her to frown and open her eyes. It was a small plate of food.
“You didn’t eat lunch, did you? I saw your bread fall on the ground. Have some. It got bumped around a bit, but it’s still edible.” Xie Shuyun had specifically picked out the intact portions and arranged them slightly to make it look decent.
“…I’m not hungry…” Cheng Lingxue turned her face away, her expression one of refusal.
“How can you not be hungry? You only ate a tiny bit for breakfast. You need to eat well when you’re growing. Besides, you’re in heat right now; you need the nutrition even more. Look, I picked this out for you—a bit of everything, perfectly balanced.”
Xie Shuyun coaxed her earnestly, nearly to the point of feeding her by hand. If Cheng Lingxue fainted from hunger, it would be her fault.
Seemingly annoyed by the noise and wanting her peace back, Cheng Lingxue took the food and chopsticks with a look of displeasure. She took a few hasty bites and was about to put them down, but seeing that Xie Shuyun was about to speak again, she had no choice but to keep eating.
Seeing her finally eating properly, Xie Shuyun breathed a sigh of relief and began to eat herself. Unlike Cheng Lingxue’s slow chewing, her hunger made her practically bolt her food down, finishing in no time.
This resulted in both of them putting down their chopsticks at almost the same time. Realizing she had eaten so much while Cheng Lingxue had only had a little, Xie Shuyun felt a bit embarrassed:
“Are you full? If not, I can go get you some more?”
“You can leave now.” Closing her eyes, Cheng Lingxue leaned against the headboard and softly uttered those words.
Despite receiving such a clear order to leave, Xie Shuyun didn’t feel right leaving Cheng Lingxue alone while she was unwell. Who knew what kind of trouble the girl might run into on the way back?
With that thought, Xie Shuyun refused to budge. She gently took the empty cup from Cheng Lingxue’s hand, set it aside, and said:
“I’ll stay here and watch over you. When you’re feeling better, we’ll go back to the classroom together.”
Just who is this person… Weak and lacking any sense of security due to her heat, and now burdened with a series of frustrating events, Cheng Lingxue no longer wanted to deal with this annoying person who had been following her around all day. But since she couldn’t drive her away, she was left physically and mentally exhausted.
She closed her eyes wearily, deciding that out of sight meant out of mind.
Little did she know that once she closed her eyes, the next time she opened them, she would be staring at her familiar ceiling.
Her consciousness snapped back. Cheng Lingxue propped herself up, confirming she was indeed back in her room. Furthermore, her clothes had been changed into a clean nightgown. She instinctively touched her neck; the sensation of the anti-bite device still being there gave her a small sense of relief.
So… how did she get back?
