After Transmigrating as a Scum Alpha, Both the Heroine and I Fell Hard (Transmigration) - Chapter 13
In the middle of the night, Song Chenxi got up in a daze to use the bathroom and noticed light leaking from the crack under Ruan Tang’s bedroom door.
In the dead of night, even the smallest sound is infinitely magnified. She heard muffled voices from inside the room saying things like “it hurts” and “save me.”
Is the Omega having a nightmare?
Feeling uneasy, Song Chenxi walked to the door of the second-floor room. She tried the handle, and the door opened. The bedside lamp cast a faint glow, making the room’s furnishings vaguely visible. The bed was massive, and Ruan Tang was curled up under the covers in an insecure ball, looking tiny.
The room was silent, but a loose floorboard near the entrance gave a small “creak.” Due to long-term abuse, Ruan Tang had become exceptionally vigilant. Her body shifted slightly, and she let out a soft whimper before drifting back into a restless sleep. That whimper sounded heavy, tinged with a nasal quality; upon closer inspection, it wasn’t hard to notice she was trembling slightly.
As a doctor, Song Chenxi had basic medical intuition. Sensing something was wrong, she walked to the bedside. Seeing Ruan Tang’s long hair scattered messily over her face, she reached out to brush it aside. Her fingertips brushed against Ruan Tang’s forehead, and a searing heat transferred to her skin.
However, this heat felt somewhat different from a typical fever. Though she couldn’t pinpoint the exact difference, Song Chenxi’s heart leaped into her throat. She pressed the back of her hand against Ruan Tang’s forehead, then pulled it back sharply, her brow furrowing deeply.
Given Ruan Tang’s multiple underlying conditions, Song Chenxi didn’t dare administer medication blindly; for now, she could only rely on physical cooling.
Song Chenxi practically ran to the bathroom. When she returned, she held a semi-damp cold towel. She rolled the semiconscious Ruan Tang over onto her back and spread the cold towel across her forehead. Reacting to the stimulus, Ruan Tang frowned and let out a small “nnnh.”
In no time, the cold towel turned hot. Song Chenxi took it off and dashed back to the bathroom. She soaked the towel in cold water, wrung it out until it was damp, and placed it back on Ruan Tang’s forehead. After repeating this dozens of times, the little thing’s forehead finally cooled slightly.
However, her mental state didn’t improve; she remained dazed and groggy. Moreover, the temperature at the back of her neck was even higher—it was almost scalding to the touch. Soon, the cold towel became hot again, and the skin around her nape was flushed a deep, alarming red.
It was clear that standard physical cooling wasn’t working. We have to go to the hospital, Song Chenxi thought.
Steeling her emotions, she propped Ruan Tang up against her shoulder. “Ruan Tang?”
Ruan Tang’s head lolled, her lashes drooping. She looked soft and obedient in her silence. After a long moment, she let out some muffled, whimpering sounds.
Song Chenxi whispered in her ear, “Your head is very hot. It might be a fever, but the cooling isn’t working. I’m taking you to the hospital now.”
Ruan Tang regained a shred of consciousness. Her eyes were hazy, and an unnatural flush stained her face; her entire body began to tremble more violently than before. At the same time, a very faint scent of jasmine began to permeate the air around her.
“I… I’m fine,” Ruan Tang said, pulling away from Song Chenxi’s shoulder. “This happens… happens often. It’s… it doesn’t matter.”
Seeing her forced strength, Song Chenxi felt a pang of heartache. “Ruan Tang, you’re in a lot of pain, aren’t you?” Without another word, she scooped the girl up in a bridal carry.
Ruan Tang instinctively shook her head. “Ma… Master… I’m… I’m sorry…” Her voice was tiny, carrying a soft, nasal whine. She forced her eyes open slowly. Upon seeing the Alpha clearly, she gripped the blanket tightly, filled with both tension and fear.
Song Chenxi steadied herself, tightened her hold, and looked down. “You did nothing wrong. You don’t need to apologize. I don’t know if this fever is from a cold or something else, but with me here, you’ll be okay.”
Though she had been an excellent doctor in her past life, she couldn’t be blindly confident in this world. There were too many “special circumstances” and “unknowns.” Song Chenxi couldn’t accurately distinguish if this was a fever or “heat.”
She dialed emergency services. Half an hour later, they arrived at the hospital.
When getting out of the car, Ruan Tang’s eyes were closed; she looked as though she had fainted. Just as Song Chenxi was about to stand up, Ruan Tang’s small hand reached out and gripped a corner of her clothes. Song Chenxi paused, then patted Ruan Tang’s hand and leaned down to whisper in her ear, “Don’t be afraid. I’ll be with you the whole time.”
As Song Chenxi helped a nurse push the stretcher, she happened to run into Pei Fei, who was working the night shift.
“Family members wait outside,” the nurse said before pulling the emergency room doors shut.
As Ruan Tang’s primary physician, Pei Fei cast a worried glance toward the ER. Song Chenxi brushed back her hair, looking anxiously at Pei Fei. “Dr. Pei, we meet again…”
Pei Fei had heard plenty about what the original host had done and held her in utter contempt. Here was a woman born into a respectable family, possessing wealth that 90% of people could never dream of, yet she never cherished it—arrogant, extravagant, and prideful in her disdain for others.
Song Chenxi’s brow remained furrowed as she stared blankly at the doctor.
“Did my words from last time just go through one ear and out the other?” Pei Fei barked. “Does Second Miss Song have no heart at all? Your Omega is already in this state, and you still torture her? Do you want her dead?”
Song Chenxi didn’t have time to explain. In this situation, words were useless anyway. The original host was scum; she deserved the scolding, the beating, and to be ground into dust.
Of all the things she could have said, only one sentence came out: “Please, save her!”
Pei Fei’s heart sank heavily at the sincerity in her voice.
