After Transmigrating as a Scumbag Alpha, I Ended Up with the Movie Queen - Chapter 3
Following Assistant Jin’s lead, Gu Nan easily identified which car was hers.
Assistant Jin had already opened the rear door to make it easier for Gu Nan to place Shen Zhibei in the back seat, while he took the driver’s seat.
Assistant Jin really is a great assistant, Gu Nan thought. It was perfect, considering she had no idea where “home” actually was.
Gu Nan carefully placed Shen Zhibei in the back and then opened the front passenger door to sit inside. She didn’t dare sit in the back with her. Everything that had happened so far told her that staying far away was the best way to care for Shen Zhibei.
Watching the buildings recede through the window, Shen Zhibei bit her lip and looked toward Gu Nan.
“Can I call my manager?”
“Of course.” Gu Nan looked back at her with surprise. “You don’t need to ask me about things like that. You can call whenever you want.”
Shen Zhibei endured the urge to lash out for as long as she could, but she couldn’t hold back the sarcasm. She fished her phone out of her pocket—a mangled wreck that refused to turn on—and showed it to Gu Nan.
“Wasn’t it you who smashed my phone into this state?”
“?” Gu Nan was confused at first, but then those fragmented memories resurfaced.
There was indeed such a scene. Shen Zhibei had retained a sliver of rationality at the time and tried to call for help. The original owner had discovered it, snatched the phone, and hurled it against the wall.
Gu Nan felt a wave of embarrassment. Once again, it was a debt owed by her predecessor.
She hurriedly pulled out her own phone to hand it over, only to see the tragic state of her own device. Even in a moment like this, Gu Nan couldn’t help but think: These two phones are a perfect match. Both smashed against walls in the same day, both screens shattered into eighteen pieces. The only difference is that one can barely turn on while the other is total scrap metal.
Afraid Gu Nan would change her mind, Shen Zhibei quickly took the broken phone and dialed a number. The call was answered almost instantly.
“Hello, Sister Yan.”
“Zhibei!” Ding Ziyan let out a massive sigh of relief at the sound of her voice. “Are you okay? Where are you? Thank God you finally called. I’ve been looking everywhere for you, and your phone was dead. I was about to call the police!”
Had it not been for the sensitive nature of being a celebrity, Ding Ziyan would have called the police long ago.
“Sister Yan…” Having been in a constant state of fear, Shen Zhibei’s emotions finally broke upon hearing the voice of the manager who had always looked out for her. She squeezed her eyes shut and tilted her head back, forcing her tears to stay put.
Ding Ziyan had been with Shen Zhibei since her debut sixteen years ago. She easily caught the grievance hidden in Shen Zhibei’s weak, raspy voice.
The relief Ding Ziyan felt was instantly replaced by fresh anxiety. “Zhibei, what happened to you?”
“I… I’m fine.” Shen Zhibei managed to steady her voice to address the most important matters. “Sister Yan, put the variety shows and movies we were about to sign on hold for now. Also, for the commercials, see if you can push the filming dates back. I probably won’t be able to film recently.”
Hearing this, Ding Ziyan grew even more frantic. “What on earth is wrong? Tell me!”
“I…” Shen Zhibei glanced at Gu Nan, unsure of how to explain the situation.
Noticing the look through the rearview mirror, Gu Nan spoke up: “Let Sister Yan come and stay with you. Assistant Jin, you give…”
Gu Nan paused, suddenly unsure of what to call Shen Zhibei.
Senior Shen? The original owner called her that while drugging her. If she used it now, it might trigger a bad memory.
Zhibei? Too intimate. Their relationship was nowhere near that level. If there were a visual “Affection Meter” like in a game, their bar would currently be flashing “Hatred.”
Better to keep it formal. “Miss Shen” it is.
“Send a text to Miss Shen’s manager and give her the address to my house.”
In the original novel, Ding Ziyan not only supported Shen Zhibei’s divorce but also stood up for her during the domestic violence and psychological manipulation. She was one of the few people who sincerely cared for her. Because of this, the original Gu Nan held a grudge and hired someone to beat her into a disability—which was one of the primary reasons Shen Zhibei eventually snapped and stabbed Gu Nan eighteen times.
“Understood,” Assistant Jin replied.
Knowing that Sister Yan was coming, the tension that had been keeping Shen Zhibei upright finally eased slightly.
“Zhibei, who is that with you?” Ding Ziyan asked, having heard a faint voice in the background.
Realizing Sister Yan would see them soon anyway, Shen Zhibei told the truth. “It’s Gu Nan and her assistant.”
“What?” Ding Ziyan lowered her voice. “Did she bother you? Just bear with it for a bit. I’ll come get you soon, then I’ll contact her manager to get you some good resources.”
Shen Zhibei understood that Sister Yan didn’t know the specifics of what had happened, which is why she was being told to “bear with it.” But she felt incredibly wronged. Gu Nan was a piece of trash who had forcibly marked her and taken… those kinds of photos. Why did she have to tolerate such a person?
Actually, Ding Ziyan couldn’t be blamed for her reaction. While she knew Gu Nan’s reputation, at this point in the timeline, Gu Nan was just known as a spoiled bully who relied on her family and insisted on starring in high-budget productions despite her terrible acting.
Usually, managers told their artists not to provoke her, or even to flatter her. Scummier managers would even try to get their artists to “scam” her. Since the original Gu Nan was a source of trouble, being bullied by her often meant you could play the victim with her manager and walk away with some top-tier resources. Thus, she actually had a hidden nickname in the industry: “The Money-Delivery Child.”
Her reputation only spiraled into true infamy after the news leaked that she had drugged and forcibly marked Shen Zhibei.
Gu Nan looked at Shen Zhibei’s aggrieved expression in the mirror and caught a whiff of the faint mint scent; her heart skipped a beat. Shen Zhibei’s beauty was grand and atmospheric—sharp features that were simultaneously charming, with a curvaceous yet tall and elegant silhouette. She hit every one of Gu Nan’s aesthetic preferences. Gu Nan really wanted to…
Shen Zhibei quickly noticed Gu Nan staring at her through the mirror. With Sister Yan on the phone, her courage returned, and she shot Gu Nan a fierce glare.
Gu Nan, startled by her own reaction, immediately realized she was in a dangerous state of mind. She grabbed the inhibitor and sprayed herself several times. As the chemicals took effect, she calmed down instantly, her mind no longer occupied by Shen Zhibei’s beauty.
As expected, it’s all the pheromones’ fault.
The car was driven smoothly by Assistant Jin into a gated garden villa district and stopped in front of an elegant Chinese-style villa. Upon seeing the villa, Gu Nan felt a sudden wave of dizziness as another set of unseen memories flooded her brain.
It was a montage of the original Gu Nan’s life in this house from childhood to adulthood. Receiving fragments of twenty-four years of life all at once made her head throb with sharp pain. The memory was “trigger-based,” but it came at a perfect time. While the novel mentioned Gu Nan’s family background, it wasn’t detailed; she had been worrying about how to handle this.
Through these flashes, Gu Nan realized that the original owner’s two mothers had her quite late in life. She was their precious “treasure daughter,” pampered and spoiled to the point where she never faced a single setback. That was how her personality had been formed.
However, she realized that while their personalities were different, their daily habits were almost identical. This was bizarre. The same name, and now the same habits?
As Gu Nan was thinking, Assistant Jin got out and opened both her door and the rear door. He did not help Shen Zhibei, instead standing aside silently.
Gu Nan pulled her thoughts back. Her main priority was to continue living well in this world. Steelign her resolve, she got out to help the struggling Shen Zhibei.
Standing before the Gu family’s front door, Shen Zhibei didn’t want to cause a scene. Furthermore, it was genuinely difficult for her to move on her own, so she accepted the help.
Just then, the front door opened. The gentle Omega mother from Gu Nan’s memories stepped out, smiling. “Baby, you’re home.”
Ba… Baby?
Gu Nan froze. A sentence slipped out of her mouth instinctively:
“I’m already twenty-four, Mom. Stop calling me ‘Baby.’”
“I know, I know,” Yin Yuehua replied dismissively. She was long used to her daughter’s protests; she’d agree now and call her that again later anyway.
She turned her gaze toward Shen Zhibei—whom Assistant Jin had specifically mentioned in a phone call earlier.
“This must be Miss Shen.”
Feeling the woman’s gaze, Shen Zhibei bit her lip. “Mrs. Gu, hello.”
“Hello.” Since Yin Yuehua didn’t yet know what the original owner had done, she simply saw how pale and weak Shen Zhibei looked and shot Gu Nan a reproving look. “Baby, quickly help Miss Shen inside to rest.”
Gu Nan was still terrified by the words that had just “slipped out.” Hearing her mother, she instinctively followed her lead and helped Shen Zhibei into the house and onto the sofa.
By then, Gu Nan’s face was just as white as Shen Zhibei’s.
“Mom, have the doctor check on Miss Shen first. Also, have the kitchen prepare something light for her to eat. She hasn’t had breakfast, and she didn’t eat dinner last night either.”
Yin Yuehua was initially touched that her daughter finally knew how to care for someone. But seeing how ghostly pale Gu Nan had suddenly become, she said worriedly, “The doctor should check you too. Look at how pale you are.”
“Yes… yes,” Gu Nan said in a daze. “I should get checked. A full-body check-up.”
She needed to check if the original owner was still lurking inside her body. Otherwise, why would that sentence have slipped out so naturally?
